RE: [313] taking off labels
so to get the label off you just put it in water right?? :D *please note the little smiley face above* ab [flip the scrip and down pitch the speed] >At 12:05 AM 3/12/2001, Jayson B. wrote: >>Like someone said earlier, your forgetting that somebody WROTE that track >>and i'm sure they would want people to hear it and own it. >> > >Agreed, but the dj is doing them a favor by playing it... he's not >prohibiting the promotion of the track or anything like that, simply >promoting a nameless track, at that point. It's certainly not detrimental >to the track itself, when you consider that you'd never have even heard it >to want it had the dj not played it for you (assumming it's something >you've never heard before). But this is why clubs are required to pay BMI and ASCAP dues. Royalties are a legal requirement. There is a sound principal at work. If a club or radio plays a song, the artist deserves (funny word) to get some reimbursement for it. It's a generally accepted means of exposure. Not all clubs pay dues, but they are liable to be shut down if they don't. Similarly not all underground labels are members of BMI or ASCAP. The issue is that but for this system, clubs would not have the authorization to play *any* music. It's a flawed system, but it illustrates the principal at work. The idea of paying admission is based on this principle. The question isn't "why shouldn't you take labels off", it's "how can you justify doing it"? I have yet to hear a sound argument as to why it's OK to steal that exposure from the artists. Maybe the question should be "why are clubs not required to post a tracklist at the end of a set"? That may be extreme and hard to implement, but you can see what I'm getting at. We're fortunate to be able to hear music before we buy it through whatever sanctioned or unsanctioned means are availalable to us. We're fortunate that laws aren't stricter, requiring that each track's info be announced every time it's played (this would be annoying in a club). The DJs primary purpose is to expose music. That is the original history of DJing. It is how this all started. A lot of things have changed since the early days of radio, but I fail to see how the DJs primary obligation to expose artists has ever mutated. Common Factor has one of those reputations of a quiet achiver who has consistently released quality music every time his name goes to wax. His releases on Planet e are ones to remember and played by the likes of Herbert, Carl Craig and Recloose. RE: [313] sunny demf
demf guide 2001 possibility of rain depends on many factors, firstly there is the tendancy for the area to have pre cyclonic tendancies from 2.17pm on a wednesday to 4.23pm the following day. the main problem of overcast sky is caused by the humidity level being above 12.8% in the lower stratosphere, but that depends on the cumulo stratus present on the preceeding monday morning, but only if accompanied by inbound migration of the common beach petrel (swallow beaked yellow tailed). your other problem of plaza sound quality can be broken down into 1 main point - the 'wind distortion effect' as documented in the underground planet guide of 1987. the tendancy for a 3.4% swirl radius in that area of town can cause a 14.9km/hr wind pool situation near the main stage front system - note this does not affect foldback due to the radius of the magnet/cone ratio in the primary drivers. a +-3db distortion of the main system can occur as a result, causing an audial imbalance in the time/space continum of detroit. i think its time i set up a mail filter for "when subject line contains 'DEMF', move to 'trash' folder" apology for the blatantly wasted bandwidth ab [flip the scrip and down pitch the speed] > > > like Ian said it's Michigan. (313) Track IDs - Derrick May, Saunderson, Omars, DJ Miles
Got a few track IDs that are puzzling me thought the bigger brains on here might be able to help out. This one is from the Universal Techno documentary, the track that is playing in the background when Derrick is talking and continues to play after he finishes. http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/4/4/954300/Track%20ID%20One%20-%20Universal%20Techno.mp3 Secondly, also from Universal Techno, the track is the one that Saunderson is talking about "remix he did for Mike and them". Tried to work this out to no avail any help really appreciated. http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/4/4/954300/Track%20ID%20Two%20-%20Universal%20Techno.mp3 This Omar S is a track three i think from the O+N Detroit so i imagine its one of his own. Not even sure if its been released but anything about it would be cool http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/4/4/954300/O%20%2B%20N%20Detroit%202.mp3 Final one is from the DJ Miles Boomkat Mix Tape. Don't even know where to start with this one, hoping someone just has it in their collection and recognizes it. http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/4/4/954300/dj%20miles%20id.mp3 Any help would be great, cheers guys. Re: Re: (313) Richie Interview
I really like that CD. Was one of the reasons for me really getting heavily into electronic music. There's one point where a nice little rhythms bubbling along and all cuts out for a little rhodes chord. Can understand peoples frustration if they are familiar with the tracks used but all props to him for what must have been a time consuming and all absorbing project. Wasn't all that when i saw him DJ in Leeds bout 6 months ago but his set at Sankey's that was recorded for the essential mix was absolutely belting, bring back old Sankeys. -Original Message- From: robin <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Wed, 14 Nov 2007 16:40:59 + Subject: Re: (313) Richie Interview > > What Richie does on CE is pulls apart all of our references and > then asks > us to have, or whether we have, the same vested interest in those > elements. > I can imagine that's why CE doesn't do it for some. > The best bit is the Der Zyklus track for me. I dont think that stuff gets really interesting in a party context until you're mixing 2-3 records very aggressively.. luciano f'ing owned it a couple years back with his live set in detroit (made akufen look like a fool in the process)... monolake was very good as well, playing live. some of the stuff seemed unfinished for my tastes and his use of sounds has always left me wondering wtf he's thinking, but a lot of the newer stuff he played was great. hawtin was hawtin. cut the bass, woompwoompwoompwoompshshshshshshshshhshshshshshshshshshshsh BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM (repeat) he did play some pretty good heavy gritty tracks, but seemed more interested in "playing" the records (via fx and eqs) than playing really awesome tracks. he dropped french kiss around 4am, and the mixing he did with it was faily creepy, but nothing like the "calle yooou" trick he pulled at jak several years ago.. I'm not digging his sets like I used to... still better than most of what you get in detroit, and thats saying something. I think he got a little too wasted later on in the night funktion one sound was intense, and of course rich redlined it, but for a venue as big as the mesonic, I was AMAZED at the sound pressure no matter where I was at in relation to the focal point of the rig. i left at ~5, but they moved to the 2500 at 6, and started serving drinks at 7a. I guess things wrapped up around 3pm, complete with free pizza(?) all this for 25 bux, and the ticket stub gets you into a future pax event for free! thanks again for sticking it out for 7 years, paxahau, dont let the tom cox's of the world discourage you. > > From: "Thomas D. Re: Re: (313) Mills!!!!!
i went to the Ae, LFO, Surgeon gig. Sound and lighting was alot better, much clearer and louder but quietened down towards the end. The stage wasn't lit really brightly like previous gigs which gave it a darker feel and added to the atmosphere. The system's fine and more than capable of filling the room effectively, it's environmental noise that are making them limit the sound. Shame really, the Sequence lads have put on decent shows but the Warehouse promoters should've really checked this kinda stuff out before they embarked on such a big project.
