yep - that's correct.

here's the publishing info on it

LOSE CONTROL (Legal Title) BMI Work #7580774
Songwriter/Composer Current Affiliation CAE/IPI #

ATKINS JUAN OWEN BMI 447768507
DAVIS RICHARD DELANO BMI 130424032
ELLIOTT MELISSA A ASCAP 335960842
FREEMAN ISAAC III BMI 347992315
HUDSON CURTIS LEE BMI 79307651

Publishers
BIG COLORADO MUSIC BMI 475656807
DEEP SPACE MUSIC BMI 120139525
WARNER-TAMERLANE PUBLISHING CO BMI 185314175

damn, that would be one expensive track to license
five writers and three publishers!

Juan still owns publishing on it - at least part of it
I might be wrong but I think Fantasy records set up Deep Space Music
(publishing) with Juan Atkin Richard Davis to handle the publishing for
Cybotron's Clear
Fantasy, of course, gets a cut of any earnings.

Even if he sold the publishing rights he'd still be getting money from
the songwriting rights. (royalties are usually split 50% between the
owner of the publishing rights and the songwriter, if the publishing

I'm surprised at how much other artists give props and not always the
artists you think - Annie was giving big props to Derrick May and
Underground Resistance in Aus interviews on her recent tour. It's up
to them to carry the legacy and educate new punters on the heritage
of this music.

I think it's a bit like the Oscars. You have to put it in
perspective. Do the best films get nominated, the finest
actors always? It's a good thing but is not always representative.
Denzil should have won an Oscar years ago...( Though I will
be happy if Heath Ledger gets something for Brokeback
Mountain. ;)) The Grammy's are so off kilter most of the time
it's hard to take some of results seriously but it would be
nice for Juan, though obviously not what he fully deserves...
Most of the dance acknowledged by the Grammys is so wack
(Thunderpuss!) no one outside the US corporate arena could
 take it seriously.

Ultimately it's a nice recognition and nothing more. If it happens,
excellent, but to hope for an equivalent to a life time achievement award is
just silly. Many of the most innovative artists and thinkers have only been
appreciated posthumously or in their dieing days. Not to say we shouldn't
try to lobby for their recognition, but to hope that Juan Atkins will be
recognised as something more than the guy who was sampled in Sir Mix-A-Lot
and Missy Elliot in the major music industry's consciousness is hoping a bit
much IMO. Why don't we try to thwart Clear Channel first, and then hope for
'Clear'. That said, if you are one of the few who can vote, do it!

Oh, and what's up with June Atkinson's comments on this:
http://www.discogs.com/release/162067 Prolly nothing to do with Juan, but
silly none the less.

i consider the world of commercial music and awards nights as one big giant
pile of wombat poop. i sort of thought that on this matter i was vaguely
on the same wavelength as others on this list, underground resistance and
others interested in independent/underground dance music.

the time for techno to get the recognition and dues it deserves was 1989
and it did - millions around the world danced their asses off to detroit
music. thousands had their lives changed and started buying the records,
djing, making the stuff, starting internet boards, wearing UR t-shirts and
making pilgrimages to detroit and putting on underground parties. how namy
people turn up each year for the demf (or whatever it''s called)?

do you think techno or juan is getting their dues when a fake industry
award show mentions his name 20 years after the fact.
an industry that ignores you unless it wants to steal your songs (knights
of the jaguar) and we're still begging for their acceptance and
recognition.

Another stupid question, whats actually the point? I can't personally see
how voting for a track that sampled Juan Atkins is giving support to him
beyond possibly landing him another royalties pay cheque from the extra
radio play/sales it'll get. Sorry if I sound like an old negative bitter
miser, but its not like the kids are gonna be snapping up the Metroplex back

yeah, just to clarify

How do I qualify to become a Voting member?
You need to have creative or technical credit on a minimum of six tracks
(or their equivalent) in at least one voting discipline and the album must
have been commercially released in the United States. Qualifying tracks can
be on one album or a combination of albums. In the music video and craft
categories you must have at least six commercial or promotional
videos/albums released in the United States.

Who does not qualify as a Voting member?
Applicants who are credited as Executive Producer, Assistant Producer, AR,
and Production Coordinators are examples of non-voting categories. If you
think you might not qualify, call Member Services at 310.392.3777 or your
local chapter to discuss your questions.

so it's up to all the members of The Recording Academy that have voting
privileges

sorry Mike - were with you in spirit on this one but I don't think there's
much most of us can do to influence this vote

Besides qualifying to become a member, you must also cough up a bunch of
cash every year to get voting rights and the other perks?. I would love
to see Juan walk up on that stage and win an award, but until they give him
credit by winning for best ELECTRO/Techno record what's the point. The
uneducated masses don't know electro from hip-hop from Jazz and probably
never will. What would be great is if he wins he could go up and blast the
audience with a quick dose of knowledge like The music Industry sucks and
you are all sheep!!!. Only problem with that is, he's not Kanye West so no
one would even listen.

Hi Guys, I think its time to see reality...
Of course I would prefer to vote directly for Juan for an electro track he
did...But when u vote for Missy, it means you vote for Juan producer
qualities, specially for an old track, it means, he still timeless producer.
After that I don't understand why we can't vote for Juan thru Missy Elliot
track...Why she doesn't sample him...its the best way to say, that guy rocks
! His music Rocks...If they can do a popular hip hop track with an electro
sample, it shows the power of our music...
I'm not a sampling guy, don't really like that, but, the ones who are saying
its a shame to sample techno to do some kind of other music, are in extasy
for Moodyman music, or the same they have Fix from Orlando Voorn in their
all time favourite ( I'm one of these ones ;-)...
Music is Music, always recycled, transformed, re-born...sometimes in a good,
sometimes in a bad way...we have to admit this fact...
So when Mad Mike is showing up to help friend to get what he deserve...from
Hip-hop or techno, or electro scene...I think its a good thing...
Its maybe better if Juan is coming to get his award than ABBA to get an
award for madona's sampling ;-).
So guys, music is more complicated than just Yes or not, Black or white,
nothing or everything...I think than its not a shame (and finally very
funny) to be the best hip-hop producer when you're doing electro...Maybe
next year it should be Grand Master Flash or...some of you ??? Thats power
of good music.
...just to remind you...Mister Lill Louis did an hip hop oriented album,
and, finally was not a bad one...
...all these words to say, I'll vote, and will be proud for him if Juan is
winning...

Only problem with that is, he's not Kanye West so no
one would even listen.

yeah, just to clarify

How do I qualify to become a Voting member?
You need to have creative or technical credit on a minimum of six tracks
(or their equivalent) in at least one voting discipline and the album must
have been commercially released in the United States. Qualifying tracks
can

be on one album or a combination of albums. In the music video and craft
categories you must have at least six commercial or promotional
videos/albums released in the United States.

Who does not qualify as a Voting member?
Applicants who are credited as Executive Producer, Assistant Producer,
AR,

and Production Coordinators are examples of non-voting categories. If you
think you might not qualify, call Member Services at 310.392.3777 or your
local chapter to discuss your questions.

so it's up to all the members of The Recording Academy that have voting
privileges

I think it's a bit like the Oscars. You have to put it in
perspective. Do the best films get nominated, the finest actors
always? It's a good thing but is not always representative.
Denzil should have won an Oscar years ago...( Though I will be happy
if Heath Ledger gets something for Brokeback Mountain. ;)) The
Grammy's are so off kilter most of the time it's hard to take some of
results seriously but it would be nice for Juan, though obviously not
what he fully deserves... Most of the dance acknowledged by the
Grammys is so wack (Thunderpuss!) no one outside the US corporate
arena could take it seriously.

Another stupid question, whats actually the point? I can't
personally see how voting for a track that sampled Juan Atkins is
giving support to him beyond possibly landing him another royalties
pay cheque from the extra radio play/sales it'll get. Sorry if I
sound like an old negative bitter miser, but its not like the kids
