I'm a bit surprised no one mentioned the Metro Area set at the SereNgeti Ballroom post DEMF. Awesome tight sound and a beauty of a mid-tempo groove. -- im - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: [313] Live shows...
>From a performance standpoint, I think you'll be seeing a lot more laptops at live shows (Ectomorph used one in NYC a few weeks back) and I don't see a problem with it. You can much more power in one laptop than lugging a whole bunch of analog gear around. We just did a show in NYC last weekend and flew in on Northwest from Detroit. It looks like my friend's Juno 106 became the victim of the gorilla in one of the Samsonite commercials.the pitch wheel was completely destroyed, and several sliders were broken completely off. I'd rather carry on my laptop and have the promoter lease anything you may need. Re: [313] Live shows...
I just got a laptop yesterday (one of our older models here at work) and I've been thinking of ways to make it more interesting to use in a "live" show. I think what I'm going to end up doing is using the laptop as the master clock for whatever gear I'm using and also to provide a touch of sequencing and automated patch changes. Everything else will be on me. Drum pattern changes/augmentation will be done on the fly, playing a bassline or two will be done live (some of the time, I can let the pc take over after a while so I can do other stuff), programming effects can be done live from a control surface of some kind, ect., ect... Maybe it's just me, but I feel like what I DO up there is just as important as what come out of the speakers while I'm standing there. Re: [313] Live shows
Yep. I'll second that one. I'd also add Kit Clayton on the Formless Form tour, if that counts as 313. Stewart Walker in Iowa City '99. This was the "Nothing Creates Stark Imagery" era. Scion w/Tikiman @ DEMF. Todd Sines @ DEMF 2. Does Titonton count, since he has a band (of sorts)? I was quite impressed @ DEMF2. Ya know... Boston has got to be the Live PAist capitol of the US at the moment. Three of my favorites are there, in Stewart Walker, Fred Gianelli, and Todd Gys. All current or former listmembers. Has anyone seen Vladislav Delay? I don't recall ever hearing a review here. His 2-hour mp3 once on the Native Instruments site was done live I believe, and about 1/2 of it became Anima (in a way). Oh, and on the topic of live on the net, there's a really nice Monolake and Kit Clayton as Revenge of the Nerds on the monolake site, and the first half of Isolee live on the Betalounge is really good too. Hell, we could almost just do a "best of" of the Betalounge... Re: [313] Live shows
Speaking of great live shows, I have to say I was quite impressed with Herbert @ Motor last night. It seemed like all of his musical personae coalesced and emerged though the "lounge" style of Bodily Functions. Loved whatching him build tracks from samples (jewel cases being smashed, bottles clanking/breaking, jaws popping, vox, etc), tweaking them and then morphing them into sequence and developing the BF songs. Phil is an amazing pianist - funky & jazzy...Dani was sultry and fun and Matthew has an amazing sense of rhythm and timing (great accordianist, too!). It was like Dr.Rockit built the intros, Wishmountain/Radio Boy would pop up between verses and take the songs into chaos and then Herbert would bring them back to melody and recognizable form like ~that~...stopping/starting on the proverbial dime. Nice deep kicks would emerge now and then and remind you what the man can do with House. Afterwards the whole ensemble was accessible and affable. Matthew seemed genuinely enthused to meet me- especially when I told him my name and that I sent him samples which appear on Bodily Functions (I think I'm in the track 4 credits). He knew my name and ushered me back to meet Dani, told me he had "played" me in the set, asked if I could recognize it, etc. Dani was very sweet...she said something which seemed quite complimentary to me (couldn't make it out) repeatedly and then pulled me to her and kissed me :-) (sweetly). Admittedly I was a bit surprised and dazed! Anyway - great show. I think the live set comes off even better than Bodily Functions as a record. Much more a hodgepodge of Matthew's styles and a boatload of fun! jeff At 11:15 AM 8/31/2001, you wrote: I'll see you on these and up the ante with a Todd Sines @ DEMF 2001. jeff : Tristan and a couple of others have mentioned live sets that also impressed me: Kooky Scientist at DEMF 2001 Bill Van Loo at DEMF 2000 - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

> Yeah Todd's set was very cool and the visual accompaniment was a soothing > relief from the Bacardi logos. good lord, todd's set at polarity (columbus, ohio...july 21st this year if i remember correctly) was AMAZINGLY good. i would venture to say better than stewart walker's set even. :) really nice minimal but yet funky in all the right places. if you ever get a chance to hear him play live again, do so. i highly highly recommend it. clicky bleepy funk. :) yum. as far as the videoediting programs are concerned, i have no clue...he is on this list (i think) so i'm sure he will pop in to answer. :) and i bet he might even give you a link to some of his tracks and a live set that was recorded about a week before polarity. (i have the link at home and not here otherwise i'd give it to ya...heheh). good stuff. definitely. lauryn. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

i missed his set at polarity (sorry again, todd) but did you happen to catch charles noel's set as _the archetype_? good stuff..i also caught him and kevin ginger's after wedding party "union" in portland. i highly reccomend. if you have a chance to come to columbus tonight, rumor has it he's playing downtown at cafe brioso. i will be there for sure.. drop me a line for more info. michael ps. dono if todd is still on the list, but i will ask pps. both todd and charles have some awesome new materal coming out.. keep your eyes open for it!
