Re: (313) ...meanwhile, back in Detroit
http://www.delsinrecords.com/release.php?id=167 "Early works from Planetary aka Dan Curtin! This 10" is a first in a series, having Delsin re-releasing their (hidden) beauties and classics out of techno history. Twice spaced-out hi-tech jazz jams, from the early nineties, both released on his own label Metamorphic. 'Matter Of Sound' was orignally released on a limited 7", and 'Inner View' is taken from the first Planetary EP from 1991, both from Dan's label Metamorphic. Sweet and smooth memories!" [EMAIL PROTECTED] schreef: Hey Jeffery- maybe Marsel could elaborate but I think the Planetary release is a re-release of a limited 7" he put out MANY years ago. It's a really nice release- great sound quality on 10" coloured vinyl...mm, nice. Jason 2008/6/11 Jeffrey Richards <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: I haven't head any of these yet, but I anxiously await the arrival of the new Dan Curtin. He hasn't released as Planetary in years, so I am quite interested. That Bernard Badie...nice. Gunna have to order this one too. I recently picked up the new Echospace[Detroit]. Supposedly Intrusion is an artist that isn't Rod or Stephen, but I'm not buying it. The Phase 90 remix on there is killer. --- "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: Okdokey- haven't got time for a biggie but here's a few Detroit related things: New Mark Flash on UR is an interesting departure for him- very "west london" broken beat/Jazzanova style stuff New Mills- Alpha Centuri- he's been a bit hit or miss over the last couple of years but this is a hit for me. The Good , The Bad and The Deep from Rick Wade on Yore- double album of Rick's trademark deep house grooves- couple of dodgy trumpet solos here and there but excellent summer grooves throughout. Dan Curtin 10" on Delsin- phew! What a scorcher! Bernard Badie 12 on Mojuba- harking back to the old school sounds of Cajmere, this is some REAL house music! Electronic Warefare 2.1- perviously only through the Submerge site, now more widely available- excellent mix by Skurge Not from strictly from Detroit but check out the Alpha 606 12 on interdimensional transmissions if you're after advanced Electro. Really nice to hear Rythmatic's take on the early Kevin Saunderson sound on the Network re-releases- amazing how spares and clean these tracks sound after 15 years- simple but very effective stuff. Stuff I just like: Syclops album on DFA- Maurice Fulton crosses every genre known to man with this double album- can't think of a single reason not to buy it- its fantastic. New Alex Cortex thing- wasn't a big fan until a couple fo years ago- he's growing in stature all the time now though Trelik represses- Make A Move by Minimal Man on Baby Ford's old label get's a very welcome second airing- been playing this for years- it's ace. Losoul on fire as usual- remixing on Sonar Kollective Move D- Drone on Modern Love- thought it was a bit dull at first then completely changed my mind. yeah, mark flash 12 is good - been quite surprised by the last few UR 12s (footwars, billeebob) - good to hear a label drop something unexpected also, the new gary martin 12s on motech and M&G are good too - got a nice dj3000 mix cd free with the motech one and the new kenny larkin - don't know if it's been mentioned here.. and also, a few nice vinyl reissues from kraftwerk (no electric cafe though...) and got the chance to get a couple of my favourite albums on vinyl - superfly & what's going on all i need now is for rob hood to get back to releasing a load of vinyl, like he used to and i'll be happy! > Date: Tue, 10 Jun 2008 10:45:56 +0100 > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > To: 313@hyperreal.org > Subject: (313) ...meanwhile, back in Detroit > > Okdokey- haven't got time for a biggie but here's a few Detroit related > things: > > New Mark Flash on UR is an interesting departure for him- very "west > london" broken beat/Jazzanova style stuff > > New Mills- Alpha Centuri- he's been a bit hit or miss over the last > couple of years but this is a hit for me. > > The Good , The Bad and The Deep from Rick Wade on Yore- double album > of Rick's trademark deep house grooves- couple of dodgy trumpet solos > here and there but excellent summer grooves throughout. > > Dan Curtin 10" on Delsin- phew! I'm really feeling dj jus ed and his affiliates such as dj qu and fred p . love the smoothness in ed's productions and i think his drum programming is ace ! on some level i can see why he gets bundled with the detroit guys and i do feel like he has a certain affinity with those guys though aesthetically , between him and omar s . dj wise i think ed has better flow than omar s though i love both their djaying for different reasons . peace ! lerato

Re: (313) Meanwhile, back in Detroit......
I never meant to imply that we shouldn't discuss non-detroit artists on the list. I think Jus-Ed is fantastic, I have a couple of his records, and I really really like them. It's just that tons of people think he is FROM detroit, like currently living there, but he's just not. He's straight up from connecticut, never lived in detroit even as far as i know. I was just pointing out the fact. By all means, I strongly encourage the discussion of non-detroit-born artists on the list. What if we do a little research right now to see if there is, possibly, a detroit artist not born in detroit? What will happen? Ruffle the drums! If it didn't, we might not have this list. +odd -- On Apr 30, 2008, at 7:45 PM, /0 wrote: whats where's from got to do with it? - Original Message - From: "Frank Glazer" <[EMAIL PROTECTED] > To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Cc: "313 313" <313@hyperreal.org> Sent: Wednesday, April 30, 2008 6:48 PM Subject: Re: (313) Meanwhile, back in Detroit..
