Piccadilly's online / mail order representation is really good. They seem to get the best new stuff from plenty of genres in. http://www.piccadillyrecords.com/

Dont know what RubADub's new improved web site will be ready but I know they have been working on it, im sure Jason will jump in with the usual RAD answer to when they will get anything - Oh, about 2 weeks ;-)) They do still do mail order though Michael so if you want anything give them a call, im sure they will be able to sort you out. As for UK online stores, I use piccadilly and boomkat quite a bit. Cheers BT --- Michael Lees [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Out of curiosity what online record stores do UK people on here use. Re: (313) Online record stores again!!
we had a record store here in e. lansing, mi. that closed recently. vinyl addict, til recently had a store front, now it is an ebay estore. also i suspect spin cycle will soon join : ( i know the mix factory is blowing stuff out for cheap and about out of there. we still have fbc (flat black circular) which doesn't specialize in any one genre, but kind of covers them all, which i think has given it a sort of longevity (25 yrs now). they do how every have great selections of electronic music, hip hop, jazz, indie, punk, good ole' rock'n'roll. which leads me to ask, where does everyone in detroit buy electro? i have been to both record times with in the last month, and they had very little, and it was most pretty common. i have never been to neptune, but have been told it's an mad-net import type store? and melodies memories (my favorite down there) has that in lock down imo. scotto lansing, mi. - Original Message - From: Cyhl [EMAIL PROTECTED] yep, that's what I was about to say... they are the one of the ones i have had good luck with. it is especially great if you are in the US and they pay the shipping for you. i think that is a great move on their part. i am getting ready to do another order with them. the other is record time. a great place to get all your detroit music needs. plus thier prices on domestic vinyl is cheaper then the rest of the country. if only they would pay shipping...maybe i should put that in Ani's suggestion box :) everyone else i have delt with has had something up thier ass and you had to do certain things the hard way to recieve your package. like satellite records...have to be at the house for the UPS man to show up so you can pay himi don't remember. i gave up on them long ago. they suck. big selection, but unless they revamped their delivery method i won't shop from them. no offense to anyone who may be satisfied with satellite records, but I and many other people I've talked to about them have had nothing but problems. Problems range from over charging accounts all the way down to a month or two long wait for shipment of records that should be available immediately. I've had the later happen to me the few times I did order from satellite. I would suggest trying www.planetxusa.com for any online record orders. They were one of the pioneers in online music shopping and have been around long enough to have built a solid reputation throughout the industry. I only talk highly of them because I personally, as well as a good majority of their shoppers have had nothing but solid performance by PX. just thought i'd throw in my experiences danny - Original Message - From: Thomas Van Steen [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: 313@hyperreal.org Sent: Wednesday, September 19, 2001 8:54 AM Subject: Re: [313]online record stores Hi, I do several order at Satellite Records ( http://www.satelliterecords.com ) .. RE: [313]online record stores
I had heard bad things about Satellite Records, but decided to try them out anyways. Unfortunately, it turns out that everything negative I heard was true. They sent me records other than what was on the shipping list and one of the records I received looked as though it had been slammed in a door. Also, it took them about 3 weeks to get the order out to me. Definitely not worth it... Groovetech, on the otherhand, is great. I've used them many times, all positive experiences. As compliment to Groovetech's customer service: One time they sent me the wrong record, and when I informed them of this, they immediately (next day air) sent me out the correct record along with postage for return shipping on the old one. -Joe - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Here's my experiences with Planet X: 1) Their policy for international orders (including Canada) is terrible. The first time I ordered from them, I had to do a wire transfer to their bank account in NY because they can't verify international VISA numbers (for some reason the extra 3 digits on the back of a VISA card isn't good enough). Thus the order cost me an extra $30 Canadian in wire transfer fees. 2) When I received my first order, a double album I bought contained two copies of the same record. I brought the issue up and their solution was to refund me for it on my next order. The only reason why I accepted this was because they were willing to let me use my ghastly international VISA number on the next order (so I wouldn't have to pay the absurd wire transfer fees). 3) When I placed my second order, I brought up the issue of the refund was told it would happen. It didn't (I was charged the full amount of the second order). 4) Also on my second order, I didn't receive notice of what records I would be receiving (just notice that a package had been shipped to me). When I tried to find out what records were shipped, they said, our system isn't quite set up for that - yet. 5) I can't navigate their website in Linux (my main operating system for software development) since they use Internet Exploder specific website features (and there's no version of Internet Exploder for Linux). Perhaps the last point is nitpicking, but it's important for me. Especially since Planet X seems to pride itself on independence (what's more independent than a hacker developed, DIY operating system?). Anyways, I just needed to vent about that. Needless to say, I won't be ordering from them again. g - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: [313]online record stores
I've had similar experiences with satellite - I had to wait 3 1/2 weeks for a record, and then I was overcharged (on a debit card - which cost me money for overcharged account - which was severely overcharged (not jsut $2 or something)). I have had good luck with sixeleven records 611records.com though they never tell you if they're out of a record, neither does sonicgroove (www.sonicgroove.com) - groovetech is easily the best online record retailer - as planetx (planetxusa.com) and sonicgroove start charging premiums for sought after records, and never tell if they are in stock or not (though planetx sometimes did - and they may have changed since i ordered from them 1 1/2 years ago) You can also try large record stores with online presence - gramaphone records in chicago has a deep back-catalogue of house (though I'm not sure how much is advertised online) but they only advertise records that are in-stock. You can always call them as well. Disadvantages to large record stores include sales tax, large shipping fees, and having to deal with people that don't want to be on the phone. I've also found that you must know where your online shop is, as some are in teh uk (or even germany) and you might think you're getting a good deal on imports, but you're getting charged for it in shipping. Re: [313]online record stores
i second (and third) the recommendation for Groovetech. great service, great selection, good prices, can't say enough about them. i've dealt with PlanetXUSA, they don't tell what's in stock on the website but if your order gets denied then they will tell you which ones they do have in stock. best bet with PlanetX is to just buy the new records they get and don't bother with the older ones. if you search the DJ Shoppe by genre, it'll give you the listing in newest-first order, and if it's less than a week old you'll probably be able to get it. peace, Mike From: Dennis Donohue [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] CC: 313@hyperreal.org Subject: Re: [313]online record stores Date: Wed, 19 Sep 2001 11:53:27 -0500 I've had similar experiences with satellite - I had to wait 3 1/2 weeks for a record, and then I was overcharged (on a debit card - which cost me money for overcharged account - which was severely overcharged (not jsut $2 or something)).
