Re: (313) Digital Soul records spam

2005-07-06 Thread David Easy

Good on you Marsel.

Unfortunately it is not the case with some other labels. A LOT of labels
give Juno finished stock (not just promos, Martin) before they give it to
other shops/distributors, and give Juno better prices that the small shops
can't compete with. So Juno sell more, and the little guys sell less, and
less, and less...

If other consumers think that's ok, fair enough. But I happen to like going
to my local shop and them recommending what's good, and trusting their
judgement, and being able to have a flippin chat with them! I think it more
or less applies to small online retailers as well.

Works for me, audio samples and everything. Maybe your mailer is
breaking the link. Try copy/paste instead of clicking.

Was glad to have the opportunity to do the remix, as it's not
something I'm often asked for (something about not being famous).

That's a fair argument but you can see why some labels would do it,
what I can't figure out is why you are grinding the axe so hard? I
mean, you berated someone over sending them one copy?

I think you have to accept that the old days are nearly gone and
clinging onto the past isn't going to work, it's tough out there for
labels and artists, for many - breaking even would be nice.

No I didn't! The original post said 'a few', and the whole problem is no
other shops have been given 'a few' for sale.

Ditto the shops - or don't they matter? They also do things for the love of
the music.

Why have they given promos to Juno? This just annoys the independent shops,
who actually CARE about the music. Juno will stock it anyway without the
label giving them exclusives on the promo.

Just thought Id give people a heads up that Juno have a few pre release
copies of the new Digital Soul 12 that isnt out till September. It
features

Wild Planet and a remix from our very own Brian Prince for those that are

Point taken but I stand by my previous post - that the retailers who strive
to promote music they love get rather annoyed if the distributors (and
labels) continue to kiss Juno's backside at their expense, by giving them
releases early, and at a greater discount.

Juno are one of the most important shops in the UK, they are on all the
chart lists and most people I know shop or at least look in there, so why
wouldn't a label send them stuff? What would you have them do?

Well, I suppose the issue isn't really about them (or any label)
giving Juno promos but about selling the copies (especially as they
got them for nothing- hence promo status) in quantity before other
retailers have a chance to get them on the official release date?

Jason

PS Groovetech used to be one of the most important shops in the UK
and nobody used to question their role or their support of the
underground music scene, but where are they now?

it sure ain't, in this case
and it never will be

as i said - this release is on promo now, to all distributors and shops
but juno ain't allowed to sell it - although they did it before

but next to that,
juno is one of the better buyers and sellers in the uk for techno..

Down to the label then, if they can afford to give stuff away good luck to

I'd have them treat Juno the same as any other retailer. Send them promos,
