Re: (313) Digital Soul records spam
Good on you Marsel. Unfortunately it is not the case with some other labels. A LOT of labels give Juno finished stock (not just promos, Martin) before they give it to other shops/distributors, and give Juno better prices that the small shops can't compete with. So Juno sell more, and the little guys sell less, and less, and less... If other consumers think that's ok, fair enough. But I happen to like going to my local shop and them recommending what's good, and trusting their judgement, and being able to have a flippin chat with them! I think it more or less applies to small online retailers as well. - Original Message - From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] david, don't no how many times i need to write this - but (in this case, don't know about any other label or distributor) juno is in every way treated as any other shop and any other distributor no discount, nothing ahead - whatever!

That's a fair argument but you can see why some labels would do it, what I can't figure out is why you are grinding the axe so hard? I mean, you berated someone over sending them one copy? I mean, you berated someone over sending them one copy? No I didn't! The original post said 'a few', and the whole problem is no other shops have been given 'a few' for sale. I think you have to accept that the old days are nearly gone and clinging onto the past isn't going to work, it's tough out there for labels and artists, for many - breaking even would be nice. Ditto the shops - or don't they matter? They also do things for the love of the music.
Re: (313) Digital Soul records spam
Why have they given promos to Juno? This just annoys the independent shops, who actually CARE about the music. Juno will stock it anyway without the label giving them exclusives on the promo. ps link didn't work for me Just thought Id give people a heads up that Juno have a few pre release copies of the new Digital Soul 12 that isnt out till September. It features Wild Planet and a remix from our very own Brian Prince for those that are interested. http://www.juno.co.uk/artists/Concrete+Soul+Collective/ Stu

I didn't want to say :) Jason PS I'm only joking here- i KNOW how much effort Stuart has put into his productions and how little (relative) success he has had with it so whatever he needs to do for his label is fine with me personally. I mean its not as if he's licensing his tracks to a major label/games company that he has railed against for years or anything is it? Hey I was as surprised as anyone to see them on sale there. Someone else sent me the link as it was! As to why they have them to begin with, beats the hell out of me. Although I'm assuming its not uncommon for them and other larger retailers to receive promos from certain distributors. yeah, but it is pretty uncommon they put it on for sale they did it before, in their words to check sales interest so if we can do all orders as they only have one - they will order a lot! :-)) Nomorewords.net http://nomorewords.net Bentinckstraat 66-2 1051 GN Amsterdam The Netherlands phn +31-64-499-2027 fax +31-20-486-9624 - Original Message - From: Stewart Caig [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: 313@hyperreal.org Sent: Tuesday, July 05, 2005 11:52 PM Subject: Re: (313) Digital Soul records spam Hey I was as surprised as anyone to see them on sale there. Re: (313) Digital Soul records spam
Point taken but I stand by my previous post - that the retailers who strive to promote music they love get rather annoyed if the distributors (and labels) continue to kiss Juno's backside at their expense, by giving them releases early, and at a greater discount. - Original Message - From: Stewart Caig [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: 313@hyperreal.org Sent: Tuesday, July 05, 2005 10:52 PM Subject: Re: (313) Digital Soul records spam Hey I was as surprised as anyone to see them on sale there. Juno are one of the most important shops in the UK, they are on all the chart lists and most people I know shop or at least look in there, so why wouldn't a label send them stuff? What would you have them do? Martin
Re: (313) Digital Soul records spam
Well, I suppose the issue isn't really about them (or any label) giving Juno promos but about selling the copies (especially as they got them for nothing- hence promo status) in quantity before other retailers have a chance to get them on the official release date? Jason PS Groovetech used to be one of the most important shops in the UK and nobody used to question their role or their support of the underground music scene, but where are they now? it sure ain't, in this case and it never will be as i said - this release is on promo now, to all distributors and shops but juno ain't allowed to sell it - although they did it before but next to that, juno is one of the better buyers and sellers in the uk for techno.. Down to the label then, if they can afford to give stuff away good luck to em ;) But it is illegal and tad unfair when you put it like that. Jason PS Groovetech used to be one of the most important shops in the UK and nobody used to question their role or their support of the underground music scene, but where are they now? Who ;) I can't figure out why people buy there or use the site but they do - seems to be full of Washing Machine Techno to me :) Martin
Re: (313) Digital Soul records spam
What would I have the label and distributor do? I'd have them treat Juno the same as any other retailer. Send them promos, let them sell the promos, sell them promos in bulk even. Nothing wrong with that. But not BEFORE other retailers, and not at a better discount rate than other retailers! Juno are one of the most important shops in the UK, they are on all the chart lists and most people I know shop or at least look in there, so why wouldn't a label send them stuff?
