SAFA is itself a screenreader like Jaws. Therefore, you don't use Jaws then and
hence script does not come in picture.

Re: [AI] help needed with Instantbird and facebook chat

2013-04-26 Thread samuel rodrigues
Hi,
Instant bird is accessible. But since facebook is not shown on skype
then it must be something related to your computer/port not allowing
facebook log ins. I'm not aware which port it might be, but seem to
have read a lot of users have experienced this problem using skype and
other applications.

[AI] Writers' shortage hits blind students hard

2013-04-26 Thread avinash shahi
INDORE: Blind or partially blind students are finding it difficult to
get writers to appear on their behalf for examinations. TOI spoke to
some of them, who are currently pursuing B Ed, D Ed and PG PD courses.
TNN | Apr 26, 2013
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/indore/Writers-shortage-hits-blind-students-hard/articleshow/19734346.cms
Certainly, there is a shortage of writers," said Rashmi Gujar, a blind
student, adding, "Many of us had to skip exams due to non-availability
of competent writers." She blames the DAVV for not helping students on
this count.

"Importance of writers for competitive examinations goes without
saying. For a bank exam, it is expected that a writer should have
scored between 50% and 59% aggregate in graduation," said Rashmi,
adding that it is not easy to find writers in this category.

Mamta Yogi, a student of Old GDC College (DAVV), said, "Out of eight
blind students, who appeared for exam with me last year, seven of them
got ATKT (Allowed to Keep Term). It means they have to write exams
again now. She alleged that answer-sheets are not checked properly and
attitude of the authority is one of indifference towards us. We do not
get even the basic facility of transportation."

Dr Rajeev Dixit (Dean Student Welfare), DAVV said, "Providing writers
and transportation to blind or partially blind is not practically
possible for the university. It is the responsibility of college to
provide them these facilities." However he claimed that the university
provides support to these students and no examination fee is charged
from them.

Bela Sachdeva, professor (home science) and NSS in charge at Old GDC,
on the contrary, said "I have so far submitted two proposals
concerning problems of blind to both registrar and the dean. There has
been no action or follow-up from their side.

Manish Tiwari, executive member, Mahesh Dhristhiheen Kalyan Sangh,
said, "Many blind students get good marks. But the question what they
will do after completing course."

[AI] 2 questions about daily living skills

2013-04-26 Thread Mohit Shah Shah
Hello AccessIndia comrades,

2 quick questions.
1. To those who live with their family: Do you put food in your plate
yourself or do you take someone's assistance?
If you do it yourself, what method do you use for doing it?
2. This may be a dumb question, but how do you match your clothes?
One method is to put a pair in 1 clip and to make many such pairs for
a few days. But, then again, one needs sighted assistance to make the
pairs, so that somewhat defeats the purpose.
What sustainable solution would you suggest?

Regards,
MS

t.a since the inception of my service. their argument is that double ta
is for physical handicap , not for visually handicap.

I want to know that is there any official order or circular regarding this.

i am waiting for reply from those friends who are working in kvs.
thanks in advance.regards.

Re: [AI] 2 questions about daily living skills

2013-04-26 Thread Zujar Shabbir Kanchwala
I've always stayed with my family but there have been occasions when I
had to dine on my own. My mom/wife inform me about where they keep the
food for me in advance. I preferably pick a bigger plate/bowl so as to
avoid spilling over and keep an additional plate underneath the spoon
while pouring liquid/curry from the cooking vessel into my plate/bowl.
They generally guide/assist me in preparing my plate at parties and
family functions, the worst thing is that they need to tell me to
straighten the plate a number of times as I don't balance it well. You
do get liquid level indicators to help pour liquids into glasses and
other containers.

As far cloth pairing is concerned, I shop for myself with sighted
assistance and mostly remember the combinations I get home. I ask my
wife to mix and match pairs as per my liking and take her review on
the selection. You can also get a colour recognizer for yourself to
assist in this activity.

Some tricks and confidence to do things helps you devise methods to
live a highly independent life.

Subject: [AI] 2 questions about daily living skills

Hello AccessIndia comrades,

2 quick questions.
1. To those who live with their family: Do you put food in your plate
yourself or do you take someone's assistance?
If you do it yourself, what method do you use for doing it?
2. This may be a dumb question, but how do you match your clothes?
One method is to put a pair in 1 clip and to make many such pairs for
a few days. But, then again, one needs sighted assistance to make the
pairs, so that somewhat defeats the purpose.
What sustainable solution would you suggest?

MS

2013-04-26 Thread Vamshi. G
Well, since I live with my parents all the time, I go to them for
matching cloths. But when I have to go to some other place, I ask my
mother to keep pairs according to the matching in separate covers so
that I can take any cover and wear them. I think you can implement
this at home also.

2013-04-26 Thread Ajay Minocha
Mohit,
it depends on your touch sences.
I remember the texture of lets say, red colored shirt, or any shirtif
it is told by anybuddy.
There is no special rocket science in it. In my school days, my
friends used to mix and match my school bag with other buddies.
And some times with girls as well.
Because we used to have at least 3 to 4 types of common bags in our class.
Then I used to always win the bet in finding the correct bag for myself.
Even today, my friends don't greet me untill, I recall them from their
handshaik.
I have a special texture identification of each and everything in my mind.
It may be my dad's hand or our family car.
I am not praising myself but, I am cunsiddered the best packer in my family.
Even I pack for my dad a lot of times.
I have only one line to say to all those people who might be reading this mail.
The best way of independence is exposure not the technology.
My personal views. didn't want to hert anybuddy.

I would like to know, in JRF do we get travel reimbursement? If yes,
what is the process of the same?
does VI person given any other allowances in JRF?

[AI] 2 questions about daily living skills

2013-04-26 Thread ss sarfudeen
Dear Mohit,

To answer your questions on the subject, let me share some tips:

1. To those who live with their family: do you put the food in plate
yourself or do you take someone's assistance?
A: Apart from using the tip that Ajay suggested, I hold the plate/bowl
in my left hand and try to put the food by feeling with the right hand
while dropping it into the plate to make sure that I do not put in
more than what is required.
This is slightly tricky and comes only through regular practise.

2. how do you match your clothes?
A: I suggest you to use a voice label which could be stuck to the
dress. I have not personally used it myself though. You could perhaps
contact Karishma Enterprises to find out more about this. Their phone
number is:
+91 22 22181853.
Hope this was of some help.

Regards,

Sultana

Re: [AI] premittion for ta in kvs

2013-04-26 Thread akhilesh
Hi Kavita,
There is central government circular after 6th pay comission. it
equally applies to KVS employees. Double TA is provided if you're not
residing within 1 KM radius of your work place. This notice has been
given to Many KV employees and some of them have started paying money
to KVS under the recovery process.

I located the concerned circular few weeks back but I'm sorry I forgot
where I kept it. I'll send as soon as I find it.

Thanks,

Yes you are right. However, my school administration has told me that
you have to seek the permission of deputy commissioner (DC) of kvs to
take double travelling allowance; otherwise whatever money I have
received so far would be recovered. Interestingly, Iam getting double
t.a since the inception of my service. their argument is that double ta
is for physical handicap , not for visually handicap.

I want to know that is there any official order or circular regarding this.

i am waiting for reply from those friends who are working in kvs.
thanks in advance.regards.

Re: [AI] Quaries related to train travelling

2013-04-26 Thread harish

Hi

At Mumbai there is a service by smartshehar.com
One of the application provides guidance in Mumbai Local trains, it tells
the approaching station and also which side the platform is. It gives fare
and also helps while taking multiple lines.

Besides, there is an associated bus and taxi/rick app.

At BGFI we had a demo of it and its audio link was shared here.

2013-04-26 Thread Mahesh S. Panicker
I haven't used the sites of the banks you mentioned, but I can tell
you, Punjab Naional Bank has a very accessible online banking system.
I have been using it for the last 5 years and it has been very
accessible. The only hitch was that the bank initially refused to
provide me ATM or online banking and it took quite a struggle to avail
the facilities. Ones that was overcome, things have worked pretty much
fine.

 2. This may be a dumb question, but how do you match your clothes?
One method is to put a pair in 1 clip and to make many such pairs for

What sustainable solution would you suggest?
