Re: [AI] WAI-ARIA Support
No silpa you got wrong info. browsers continue to support WAI-ARIA because there is no native semantics available in the mark up languages to convey rich interactions, for example, consider a Menu bar there is no equivalent native semantics inHTML/XHTML. ARIA is a bridging technology to fill the gaps in the native markups. HTML 5 got improved in rich semantics, for example it has Landmarks(sectioning elements) and required field information(Required) for input fields.. There may be a time to stop ARIA when all the rich semantics available in native markup languages, but it may happen in long run. To understand ARIA and it's importance see the following presentation http://www.accessibleculture.org/research-files/ozewai2011/basic-html5-aria-screenreaders-presentation.html#(1) On 5/17/12, Silpa Mallipeddi wrote: > Hi List, > > I heard that from version 10 of Firefox does not have support for WAIARIA. > Is this true. > I would like to know from which to which versions of FF we have support for > it. > > I would like to know support for other browsers along with version #s > and also the screen readers and their version #s. > > Would like to know other relevant related to it. > > Thanks and regards, > Silpa. > > > Search for old postings at: > http://www.mail-archive.com/accessindia@accessindia.org.in/ > > To unsubscribe send a message to > accessindia-requ...@accessindia.org.in > with the subject unsubscribe. > > To change your subscription to digest mode or make any other changes, please > visit the list home page at > http://accessindia.org.in/mailman/listinfo/accessindia_accessindia.org.in > > -- Cheers, Jeevan Reddy, Accessibility Engineer, Onya Digital Solutions, Bangalore, Mob: +91 8050761380. [AI] Fwd: [WebAIM] May 9 Global Accessibility Awareness Day
Hi folks, Promote the Global accessibility awarenessday -- Forwarded message -- From: Jeevan Reddy Date: Mon, 7 May 2012 12:52:01 +0530 Subject: Fwd: [WebAIM] May 9 Global Accessibility Awareness Day To: "jeevan.anupalle" -- Forwarded message -- From: Jennison Mark Asuncion Date: Fri, 27 Apr 2012 10:52:57 -0400 Subject: [WebAIM] May 9 Global Accessibility Awareness Day To: webaim-fo...@list.webaim.org Over the last couple of weeks, some of you on Twitter and LinkedIn may have seen reference to the first Global Accessibility Awareness Day on May 9. This grassroots effort has been driven by a blog post by a Los Angeles-based dev, Joe Devon http://mysqltalk.wordpress.com/2011/11/27/challenge-accessibility-know-how-needs-to-go-mainstream-with-developers-now/ which I happened upon by pure luck. I was excited by the idea and potential because it fully supports the notion of reaching beyond the converted (i.e., to the balance of the design, development, and related IT communities). Think of it as a large accessibility “un”event in keeping with the camp/unconference movement that many of you know me as the poster guy for. Fast-forward and at this point, there are two free public events confirmed, one in Los Angeles featuring Yahoo!’s Todd Kloots and Victor Tsaran http://www.meetup.com/LA-UPA/events/62248512 and a more modest one in Toronto hosted by myself http://www.mysqltalk.com/gaadtoronto.htm , with a few other events still in the works. The ultimate goal is to raise awareness and begin digital accessibility conversations of all kinds. An official website will go up next week, which will include ideas on how everyone can participate (e.g., unplug your mouse for an hour and use your computer and blog about your experience). For now, there is info at http://www.facebook.com/globalaccessibilityawarenessday. While I know all too well that May 9 is just around the corner, if anyone here has the time, and is willing and able to organize some sort of intro to accessibility talk, demo of adaptive technology/mobile/other accessibility, or other digital accessibility awareness building event in your community/at work/school, get in touch with me via globala11yawarenessday at gmail.com so it can be included and promoted. It doesn’t have to be formal or large. Your target are designers, developers, IT decision-makers, and others who are most likely not members of this e-mail list. Re: [AI] Now engineering college for visually challenged too
Hello Naga Raj, As i previously said the way you approach the college management is important. Firstly, the mainstream college management and the people don't know how a people with disability can be equipped into the college. it's your responsibility to win them, not to force them, by explaining them how a person with disability can persue the course, if necessary, show the real examples of one of us. Still you didn't win them, take the help of one of our experts like Srinivasu, or one of the NGOs. Re: [AI] Now engineering college for visually challenged too
Why special college i don't think special college for technical studies will bring us to main stream society. there are many advantages while studying in main stream colleges.. unfortunately, developing countries like india don't have the course syllabus in accessible format. specially, a single teacher teaching a perticular subject can't make all the VI students understood. if it's a mainstream college, we can be helped out by our sited friends!.. and moreover we can enjoy like every one, never feel we have disability, and easily adjust when comes to work environment! There are many who studied in mainstream collleges and successeded, i'm one of those! The way you approched the college management to make the environment accessible makes the difference. Re: [AI] Mozilla Firefox and HTML
Hello! Which verson of IE you are using? if you use IE 7 or earlier, you can change source code at the instance. if you use Fire fox, once you edit the html code in note pad, save it in .html. For example if you saved your html as example.html, first open it with notepad by application key>open with>notepad. Then open the same file with fire fox. now you are able to transit between both source and browser. Now what ever changes you made to your source code, you can view in the browser by just one refresh. Hello Nagarjun, Each Screen Reader has their own Features. Having said that if your Research wants to reach most audience, you need to take open source. NVDA comes as an Open source platform. But As per my knowledge, JAWS is the most widely using Screen Reader. So you can opt as you wish. Dolphin supernova also has it's own Advantage of Arabic support. so most of the Gulf people use Dolphin.. Re: [AI] NVDA Compatibility issue
Hello Arun, As for as my knowledge, NVDA is better compatable upto Vista, it's less compatable for windows 7, if you are low vision and capable of managing some issues, NVDA is quite Ok. Re: [AI] Screen Reading Software
Hello, NVDA is pretty good and Free and open source. My Advice is to don't stick to commercial Screen readers, when you Go for Job, you needed to purchase by that company. it'll reduce your chance or getting into the smaller companies, because they don't want to invest thousands on you initially. Certainly some applications such as programming on Visual studio 2008 is not compatable by NVDA, and there are some issues, like copy comand don't speak to you when you do it. expect few issues NVDA works fine. Even when you go for commercial screen Readers, keep an eye on NVDA it will help you a lot. Re: [AI] Strange behaviour of Jaws
Hi Tanya, It's strange behaviour not only by JAWS but also for most of Screen Readers. There are several Reasons for that. Primary reason could be of system struck, in this case you do close the some or all the opened applications, and close the jaws and restart again manually. The Other Reasons may be of automatic Updates, May be Virus in your System, Or that JAWS Application may be corrupted. Best Regards, Jeevan. Hello! Or if you visit some sites, their pop ups try to catch your browser and notify you every time when you log on,.and you may closed the browser by giving save tabs and quit , if it is the case, just close all the tabs in your browser when you open, refresh, and restart the browser. [AI] Re why no reply
Hi, We can make every web site accessible, but there are different issues involved. first of all, the client has to aggree for that and more over if the site goes live, it's some what difficult to control on accessibility. now a days most of the companies doing accessibility, we can expect atleast the future coming sites accessible. so we should ask our government has to take some initiative, at least some important sites likes banks and railway sites accessible.
