Thanks for connecting Sunil. Enjoy these magic marvellous moments with your little Angels. My son is now over 16 years old. The whatsapp group was created for visually impaired/blind parents to enjoy moments of growing up with their little ones & it continues to serve. I strongly believe that experiences of visually impaired parents are unique & in fact if documented, can be read later on with teens over a cup of coffee, laughing at, savouring each moment. Re: [AI] Concession to persons with disabilities in vande Bharat trains
Hi All, I travelled this morning from Ahmedabad to Mumbai Borivali & have been frequently travelling Mumbai Gujarat route. My observations- * Since there is no way to identify myself as a passenger with visual impairment while booking ticket, there is no awareness/alertness amongst the team of such a passenger. * I got to understand from fellow passengers that there is an indicator/display that shows the number of kilometers to be covered. We wouldn't be able to tell otherwise. * Until the ticket was checked, there was no way for me to identify attendants on duty. God to hear on the announcement that there are helpline number stickers stuck near doors. * Unlike airline staff, the Vand Bharat team is yet to be trained to assist with getting off. The train hault at Borivali station is only 2 minutes & I was lucky to have other passengers wheel down my bag onto the platform. So, when we do write to them we'd want to keep some of these & other points in mind. [AI] Unleashed dog in the society lobby- restricted mobility around the neighbourhood
Dear all, My building has an unleashed dog around the lobby so as soon as I step out of the elevator and walk toward the building gate, its lying on the way around where the security desk is. I have more than once politely shared via email and on the society whatsapp group that this restricts my mobility as it's uncomfortable for me to freely move around independently. There is some resident who feeds the dog. Others on the group have also expressed disapproval since all members may not be animal lovers. However, the dog still remains there. I havestepped on it once because it was sleeping around and I was walking alone. Any concrete steps on how this can be tackled? The secretary suggested that I inform the security when I intend to leave or return but I politely replied saying that as a member of the society I expect free mobility in and around the neighbourhood 24 x 7 . Re: [AI] Why too many barriers for people with disabilities?
Hi, My application for UDID card has been processed in April 2024 and medical formalities including sonography of the eye amongst other tests completed but the status on the UDID website shows "pending- medical representative will be assigned to you" Cooper Hospital Vile Parle west is the hospital assigned around Mumbai suburbs. Now, I am unable to proceed with renewing railway concession. I travel often and unable to move ahead on this. Every time I visit Cooper Hospital during mornings, I need to be watchful of time for moving around through departments consumes time and I need to go to office thereafter. The solutions I have received so far are to call the hospital landline to get the statusof UDID. For every visit to Cooper, sometimes the same sighted assistance cannot be available and therefore the process gets dropped off mid way. This is just to share the process of obtaining UDID in Mumbai and its complexity as of today. Re: [AI] Why too many barriers for people with disabilities?
All, On Wednesday morning, I called Cooper Hospital landline- Vile Parle west Mumbai & got to understand that the UDID website has been down since April 2024. The gentleman shared that there are around 200 UDID applications which are held up and they haven't been able to upload any documents and move the process further inspite of writing to Delhi. "Perhaps you guys could help in making this move" is what he said. [AI] Checking of Proof of Disability in the handicap compartment on the Western Line
Hello Friends, Wanted to share with you all an experience of travelling on the Western Railway on Saturday afternoon. While travelling on a partially crowded handicap coach from Malad to Vile Parle around half past noon yesterday, I noticed a TC step into the compartment at Andheri. He sounded like a man of authority and spoke in fluent English and Hindi. He loudly announced that non-handicap commuters would have to immediately get off the train at the next station. While pacing around, he began to ask some commuters to produce their Disability Certificate. He took to task a man who was accompanying an orthopeadically handicap passenger and said that the man ought to be travelling in the general compartment while only his physically challenged friend would be allowed to board this coach. When Vile Parle approached, the TC got off the train with the escort of the physically challenged man and two other women whom he had asked for proof of disability. I saw him stand at one corner of a tea stall talking with them as I proceeded to search my way. This may have come as an after effect of all the effort put into writing to and following up with Railway Authorities. However, it sure seems like the beginning of a break through with Indian Railway. Thanks to all our friends who have brought about awareness and persisted in opening the eyes of the Railway Authorities about inconveniences caused to us while travelling in handicap compartments. Probably, this tells us that there is light at the end of this tunnel. If the Railway staff do take up this matter seriously and keep up the supervision and check during peak hours as well, commuting by the handicap coach may soon be a pleasant experience for all of us. [AI] How to get JAWS to read cell co-ordinates in Excel 2007?
-- Hello Friends, While working in Excel 2007, I am unable to get JAWS to speak column or row headings. Would anyone please list step by step commands to make this happen? For example: the column headings that have been created in the sheet extend from b1 through af1 and the rows have headings right from a2 through a30. While navigating through any cell in the sheet, I would like JAWS to announce the column or row heading to know the cell through which my curser moves. Please suggest how to get this done through the JAWS Verbosity dialogue box. Thanks in advance. Cheers! Mother's Day: What makes these visually-impaired women supermoms? On the occasion of Mother's Day, we meet three gumptious women who have beaten all odds to rear their children. With tremendous hard-work and persistence, they may look ordinary, but look closely and you will notice that they are visually-impaired. We share their stories Alka and Swapnil Kamble Looking resplendent in a parrot-green and pink salwar kameez, 48-year-old Alka Kamble is comfortably seated with her son Swapnil by her side. The mother of this 21-year-old met her husband Suresh and got married in her early twenties. An instructor with NSD Industrial Home for the Blind, an agency that provides vocational help for the visually impaired, Suresh's was a love marriage. adFrame frame Smart Musafir adFrame frame end A few years into their marriage, their son Swapnil was born. About his birth, Alka says, "When the doctors told us that our son's eyesight is alright, we were relieved. I told myself that I was going to see the world through his eyes." A senior telephone operator with MTNL for the last 28 years, Alka has always been a working mother. She reminisces about her childhood days and shares, "We were seven sisters with one brother. Though I was born blind, I never felt bereft of sight as I went to a normal school and performed well in exams." Her excellence in academics reflects well on her son Swapnil who completed his diploma in mechanical engineering and now works at the Godrej and Boyce company. About his mother, the doting son says, "I have never been treated differently by my parents. In spite of the many difficulties they faced, they provided me everything. I truly love them and it's entirely my responsibility to care for them in their old-age." Neelam and Tejas Vinkare Kandivali resident, Neelam Vinkare was born healthy, but at six years of age, a mysterious fever took her sight away. Raised by her grandparents, Neelam is a graduate in Marathi literature with a healthy work experience. Together with her late husband Bhimrao, she has an 18-year-old son Tejas. Starting out as an assistant at the Andheri Blind Home, Vinkare's first job included duster making, weaving and tailoring and she later went on to operate a telephone booth. Bhimrao meanwhile worked as a door-to-door salesman selling household items. After her husband's death at the age of 47, Neelam became the sole breadwinner of the family and Tejas was her biggest support system. Currently the teenager is studying arts at Ruia College and aspires to become a newspaper reporter, while Neelam continues to work at the booth. She makes Rs 1500 per month and confesses that life is tough. "With the advent of mobile phones, telephone booths do not make much business anymore," says Neelam. Tejas adds, "Moreover, the booth is located in the vicinity of a college and rowdy youngsters often trouble my mother by snatching chocolates or biscuits without paying any money." The adoring son therefore accompanies her mother to the shop each day and thanks his mom for her love and sacrifice. He says, "Even in face of adversity, my mother insisted that I continue education. I intend to pursue night college and am searching for a day job to sustain us," he said. Sharda and Monika Khatnawne Until her mid-twenties, 45-year-old Diva resident Sharda Khatnawne had an eyesight. "When I was close to twenty-five years old, my vision started decreasing. The doctors said that my optical nerve was rapidly drying up. For two years, we visited many hospitals but in vain," says the 45-year-old. A mother to Ganesh (24), Kanchan (19) and Monika (17), Sharda was already a married woman when she lost her vision. "It became difficult to carry on household work. To adjust to a life of darkness was an unprecedented challenge," she says. Sharda's husband is a cobbler, and money is hard to come by. "To sustain a family of five is often troublesome, but I have ensured that my children turn entrepreneurial," she tells us. Over the years, she has become used to leading a life without sight but is still a hands-on mother. "I help my daughter in her tailoring job, to mend clothes and whatever else they require," she says. http://www.dnaindia.com/mumbai/report-a-different-point-of-view-2084578 Regards, Payal Jethra Register at the dedicated AccessIndia list for discussing accessibility of

Re: [AI] Local Train in Mumbai: my experience
Hey Avinash, Welcome to the finantial capital of the country! I guess we as Mumbaikars are so use to all that you pointed out, it hardly matters anymore. Challenges are everywhere; whether you travel by train, bus, cab or rickshaw, only the nature of difficulty varies. Tactile paths are rare; so much to be done there. Do take a ride in the Metro though, Reliance Mumbai Metro has made travel fairly accessable for the physically challenged. As a visually challenged Mumbaikar girl, I have learnt to move beyond a protected environment of being driven around by family in car to commuting by cabs, rickshaws, busses and trains with a toddler by my side, from Boriwali to Kalyan and Belapur to Andheri in all directions. Wouldn't say the challenges get lesser if a choice is made to board busses or hier cabs. The advantage of train travel is that one can seldom expect to be lost; for even if you get off at the wrong station, its not tough to find your way back whereas while travel by road, one must be confident of the routes or it is likely one might be misled or taken for a royal ride! The ease in commuting we have today is a result of joint efforts put in by our visually challenged activists, NGOs pushing for rights and achieving results in as many ways as possible. The best way to minimise discomfort is to take advantage of accessable travel wherever possible and seek help from fellow Mumbaikars whenever need be! Most people are very warm and helpful if requested curtously. I have had pleasant as well as unpleasant experiences of interactions with people on railway platforms, trains, busses as well as rickshaw drivers with the former types of incidents outnumbering the latter. Looking forward to have you show the way around when I visit Delhi next! Thanks for sharing Cheers! Re: [AI] insensitive rickshaw drivers in Pune
Narendre, Thanks for bringing this up. In Mumbai, the situation is more or less similar. I use to commute to and from work by rickshaw. However, my observation is that the rickshaw guys are generally becoming difficult at times, not just targetting us as visually challenged. In fact, because of not being able to get a rickshaw on my way back from office which in fact happens to be at around 4 in the evening (non peak hours), I switched to B E S T travel. There, we cannot be denied envrey neither do we have to worry about finding a seat and seldom to worry about where to get off once familiar with the stops on the way, not to mention the feasibility of commute by bus. Sometimes, the idea is to make the commute convenient and spending on rickshaw may be necessary but when the guys act nasty, taking the next best option might just be the right thing to do. Bang opposite my bank, there is a rickshaw stand and not too further off is a bus stop. Usually a known rickshaw man would drive two others and me right to my doorstep However, after a few days, he would allow me to sit in the rickshaw but I had to wait for two or three other commuters to come so he could claim a share from each person. I began to realise that the wait was getting too much. Instead of reaching home in 10 to 15 minutes, which would have ideallly been the reason for taking a rick, I reached home in half an hour. Apparently, all other rickshaw drivers refused saying that the only man who would agree to drop off at my area of residence was the guy who ran the share rickshaw. The next evening, after waiting around for ten or so minutes and being refused by other auto guys, I headed to the busstop. As I was stepping into the bus, the rickshaw guy called out saying that the others had come and that there was a seat for me. But, I had made up my mind. This, however, has temporarily taken care of my situation, but as you say, there are times, when I would wish to choose commute by auto when I am carrying shopping bags and stuff. Also, during monsoon days, when a rickshaw drop home is obviously preferable. The problem here seems to be about them choosing to drive customers to their preferred destination rather than have us dropped where we wish to go. This is the case even in case of sighted customers. But, since commute poses more challenges for us, let's certainly hope to sensitise them. [AI] Single Parenting - Challenges to Overcome and Moments to Cherish!
Single Parenting - Challenges to Overcome and Moments to Cherish! Source: Blind Welfare Volume 56, No. 1 April 2015 Published by National Association for the Blind (India) Worli, Mumbai (Photograph of Payal & Nihaar) "Ding dong bell!!!" whispered a timid voice through the peephole as the little boy and his Nanny approached the wooden door of the apartment. It was late afternoon as the duo came up the elevator like all other days to Nihaar's home - Nihaar the six year old beloved child of his Mummu, Payal - a visually challenged single parent to the boy. As Payal unlatched the door and let them in, Nihaar jumped into her arms like a puppy overjoyed at the prospect of being greeted by his mother. On return from school that Wednesday afternoon, Minakshi Tayee, the woman who baby sat Nihaar after school on weekdays until his mother returned from work, was also surprised to find Payal at home before them. "You naughty girl," shrieked Nihaar in overwhelming joy, "How come you reached home before us, today?" the young man quizzed as he ran excitedly from room to room, unable to contain himself for the next half hour. "I thought," quipped Payal, as she gleefully lifted him up along with his oval shaped backpack, "on all other days, you both welcome me home; so today I wanted to surprise you by reaching home before you and greet you. Isn't it fun switching places once in a while?" Pushing aside the strands of her silky black hair Nihaar rested his head on his mother's shoulder, affectionately placing his arms around her neck. For him it was a delightful evening as he told Minakshi Tayee to prepare some extra rice and merrily gorged on the simple meal of dal, rice and curd in a manner he wouldn't on other days when his mother returned from work after his meal was over. Payal and Nihaar have been living by themselves for two years now after Payal got out of an abusive marriage in which both Nihaar and she faced domestic violence. She was well aware of the challenges of single-handedly parenting a child in the face of her visual limitations...but still chose to step out of the bad relationship. Ever since, she turned a new leaf there was no looking back for Payal. The boy has been blooming like a bud and Payal herself is lot more at peace than she would have been staying in a bad marriage with the father of her child who always contradicted her every gesture for her son, in an attempt to win over the child on his side and then use him as a helper to serve his blind self. As the trio wound up their late afternoon lunch, Minakshi answered the doorbell. It was Trupti a freelance journalist for a decade with the local newspaper - The Face of Mumbai. Trupti often saw Payal and Nihaar waiting for Nihaar's school bus, as she stepped out for work each morning, and had made a rendezvous with Payal that afternoon to pen down her experiences while dealing with the challenges of a single parent, not to mention the trials and tribulations she faced on account of her limited eyesight due to Glaucoma. Trupti had been planning this interview for a while now. She'd often run into Payal walking down the busy highway on weekday mornings as she escorted her across to the queues for share- rickshaws shuttling to the nearest railway station. [AI] Cane Crisis!
-- Friends, Greetings to one and all! For a week and a half now, I have been faced with a problem with two of my mobility canes in pieces. The last time the elastic of the cane gave way, a friend of mine was kind enough to buy me one when she visited NAB Worli. And I put away the broken one hoping to learn from someone how to fix it some day rather than find myself stranded without a mobility cane again. Unfortunately, before I had a chance to or was I careless in not noticing the passage of time, in a couple of months, the elastic of the new cane snapped out of the blue scattering the pipes in the air. Before my eye pressure increased, causing damage to the optic nerve due to Glaucoma, I had sight enough to move around without a cane. But, since I began using the mobility stick, it has very much become a part of my life. I felt sort of incomplete walking down to the rickshaw stand on my way to work each morning with my right hand holding a bunch of pipes fastened together rather than my mobility companion that keeps me secure with the knowledge that the next step I take will be on assured flat concrete. Having had no formal training in mobility as such, I use the cane with a few techniques that visually challenged friends have shared with me. Now, I find myself left with two canes, both in pieces and tied with the elastic to hold them together. A colleague at work was kind enough to fix three of the four pipes that go into making the entire mobility stick, with three white pipes. Although this temporary cane, without the lowermost red pipe, is too short for me, I must make do with it for a while till I reach Worli on a week day, after work, but before the workshop closes, to get both white canes fixed. Having had help from regular rickshaw drivers and BEST bus drivers the last ten days, as they park bang outside my Bank Branch to enable me avoid the heavy traffic and crowds which often characterise station roads, I have been lucky in getting past this cane crisis. What I wish you, friends to throw light on is the following queries: Does a cane get affected due to the way it is handled? Are there varieties in a simple metal/plastic red-white cane that I should be looking out for? Is there a technique that can be learnt to fix elastic so I shouldn't have to fret about travelling all the way to Worli to have my stick fixed? Is there a place on the Western suburbs of Mumbai where I could get help with a broken cane or is Worli NAB the only option? On a lighter note... Is it the way I handle my cane? Or does it wear away through winter sun or showers of rain! [AI] Disabled-friendly Odisha govt websites by August 15
-- Disabled-friendly Odisha govt websites by August 15 Jun 9, 2014, 11.09AM IST TNN[ Ashok Pradhan ] BHUBANESWAR: The state government is planning to make government web portals disabled-friendly with screen readers, resizing of texts and colour contrast scheme by August 15. Screen reader is a software application that interprets the display on a computer and presents it to an user in a text-to-speech, sound icon or Braille form, making the contents accessible to the blind. Deputy general manager of executing body, Odisha Computer Application Centre (OCAC), S K Tripathy said three-pronged steps are being taken to make the government websites usable for the differently-abled. "People having problems in identifying small letters can go for big font version," he said. Secondly, colour contrast scheme will be introduced to make it easy for people with colour blindness and partial visibility. Each site will have multiple colour scheme. Thirdly, the sites will be made screen reader-enabled so that blind people, having the software, can access the content, he said, adding, work in many sites is in advanced stages of completion. Of the total 39 state government departments, 17 are managing their websites independently. The other department sites are nested on the state portal (www.odisha.gov.in) and managed by OCAC. The government has asked the 17 departments having independent URLs to complete the disabled-friendly task by August 15 while the sites managed by OCAC has been given July-end deadline. The government move follows a decision taken in a meeting chaired by chief secretary Jugal Kishore Mohapatra on May 17. On March 21, deputy chief commissioner for persons with disabilities, ministry of social justice and empowerment, had written to the chief secretary to make the sites accessible to all. source http://m.timesofindia.com/articleshow/36283881.cms Regards, Payal Jethra Phone: 7303448295 Skype: payal.jethra Bobby Bippy bought a bat. [AI] In first radio address, Modi says the nation belongs to people, not the govt
-- In first radio address, Modi says the nation belongs to people, not the govt Oct 3, 2014, 12.15PM IST PTI In the 'Mann ki Baat' programme, the Prime Minister said, "the 125 crore Indians are blessed with immense skill and strength. All we need to do is to understand our strengths." NEW DELHI: Seeking to reach out to more people, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday addressed the countrymen over radio for the first time, giving a pep talk about how to shed despondency and use their skills for betterment and prosperity of the country. He advocated the need for use of khadi products as a homage to Mahatma Gandhi and impressed upon the people to generate confidence among themselves, including the specially-abled children. Promising to make the radio broadcast a regular affair, Modi invited ideas from the citizens while noting that he had been receiving a number of suggestions since it was announced that he would be addressing the nation over radio. In his 15-minute address, he sought to motivate people to recognize their capabilities and use them. "You know, our scientists have undertaken the Mars mission successfully at minimum expenses. There is nothing lacking in our capabilities. We only have forgotten our strengths. We have forgotten ourselves as if we have become despondents. My brothers and sisters, this cannot be," he said. "We need to recognize our internal strengths," the Prime Minister said while narrating a short story of Swami Vivekananda about how a lion brought up by sheep rediscovered his prowess after coming in touch with another lion. "If we move ahead with self-respect and right identity, we will emerge victorious," he said. He also referred to Mahatma Gandhi, whose birth anniversary was celebrated yesterday, and impressed upon people to use at least one khadi product, may it be a handkerchief or even a bedsheet. It will benefit the poor, he said. In the 'Mann ki Baat' (heart talk) programme that coincided with Dusshera, the Prime Minister said, "the 125 crore Indians are blessed with immense skill and strength. All we need to do is to understand our strengths." He cited some suggestions received by him through emails, which included that skill development should start from 5th Standard, special programmes for specially-abled children to motivate them, more dustins, ban on polythene and making easier the registration of small scale industries. Together let us serve India and take our Nation to newer heights," Modi said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi cleans the premises of the Mandir Marg Police Station. Referring to the specially-abled children, he said they should be a part of the development journey as the nation belongs to everyone. "They are the responsibility of not only their families but the entire society," he said. Appreciating the suggestion for special programmes for the specially-abled children, Modi recalled his days as Gujarat chief minister and said "we began Khel Mahakumbh for specially-abled athletes and I myself would go and see the sports." He also said he would consider the suggestion for making it easier for registration of small scall industries. Modi referred to the 'swachh bharat' campaign launched yesterday by him and noted that he had invited participation of nine people, each of whom should rope in nine more, who will involve nine more and so on, to create a chain. "Let us pledge to affirm to remove dirt. Yesterday we began the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan & I want you all to join this Abhiyaan," he said. More than 100 differently-abled children proved yoga as a tool to overcome their disability and increase their confidence levels. [AI] Visually challenged parent - sighted child...How to bridge the gap?
"I want you to read what I have written. I want you to see" is what my seven year old son insisted as I sat him on my lap completing his Hindi assignment. As a visually challenged single parent, one of the hitches I face while taking up my son's studies is figuring out how to establish written communication between parent & child: A visually challenged parent would leave a messege or Braille or audio note for a child who returns from school to read... "Hope you had a Terrific Tuesday, Sweetheart. When Mommy returns we shall pick up reading the Science lesson on Light and Shadows. Till then...take care and be good! (And draw a smiley face at the end)" My residual vision allows me to scribble a line or two with a chalk on a blackboard or using a marker on a white board, but what adaptations would help him write to me? At school, he is doing very well with oral, elocutions and recitationshowever, when it comes to written work whether it is at home or at school, he does it with lack of interest and the only area where he requires improvement is his handwriting. Technology and accessibility has been a boon in enabling me scan his text books, type out and save his class work and set tests and practice papers thus doing my bit in complimenting the effort of my friend who takes up his studies volentarily as a tuition teacher. When a subject is covered in class, and after we have read through the text and note books, we Google "our solar system" or long "division" or watch a you tube of the subject together. This activity helps me gauge his understanding of the subject and answer any questions which may pop up. It is my strong belief that visual limitations must not be allowed to come in the way of a parent taking up a child's studies or motivating him academically. The only gap is in the different tools my son and I use to read and write. His lack of interest in writing may or may not be linked to my visual impairment or inability to help with his written work. It could be a mere phase of childishness, however, the question of establishing written communication with him still remains he and I being on different wavelengths and me not wanting him to use a phone or computer as a tool to write to me? Friends, your thoughts and ideas on how to bridge if not eliminate this gap in written communication between a visually challenged Mon and a young child & rekindle his desire and love for writing would be appreciated. Re: [AI] Visually challenged parent...Single Child...How to bridge the gap?
Friends, Apologies for a delayed response ...but, many thanks to all for sharing an overwhelmingly varied number of suggestions on how to bridge the gap between a visually challenged single parent and a sighted child. It was very touching to read so many ideas from so many people. It sure seems that there are many more work-arounds than I had singly thought of. In fact, in a matter of days, a friend from my neighbourhood has already agreed to spend time twice or thrice a week to help improve with my son's hand writing! Cheers! Re: [AI] problem about daily attendance help please
Navneet, This issue may be of a lot of people in other institutions as well. Since your principal is skeptical, it might be a good idea to sign in his presence, at least for a few weeks since he is unconvinced that you are regular. Else some work around like signing with the assistance of sighted collegues and giving the principal a buzz on his telephone or intercom to inform him that you have marked your attendence and that he might want to verify ( not for your sake but to overcome his skepticism) Given time, he might begin to overcome his lack of trust in you. All the best. As a teenager, I had developed Glaucoma and was apprehensive about the child's vision being affected by genetic factors. On the recommendation of my ophthalmologist and his gynecologist wife, I did go for genetic counseling in Mumbai. At one point, I almost gave up the idea of parenting, but both doctors were very positive and reassured me that what happened three decades (me being born with cataract) is a very slim occurrence in today's times. Even if the baby is born with cataract, is what I was told, the cataract can be easily removed immediately with no complications or long-term implications. It was suggested that a pediatrician be present to test the baby's eyes at birth. After that, I have been regularly been getting my son's vision tested by my ophthalmologist every time I visit him for a Glaucoma pressure check up. Hi Devender Not sure which state you're from. In Maharashtra, Mumbai, I'm closing a deal with Maruti Suzuki for a new car. I've shared with them the recent 3rd February circular & they've visited Mumbai RTO Dahisar for confirming & waving off the indicated charges for registration of the vehicle under Divyang catagory for the blind/visually impaired. Re: [AI] Biometrics attendance system accessibility for blind
I am working with Bank of Baroda at a branch in Mumbai suburbs. We had the BAS system set up for marking attendance. I took the opportunity to mark attendance with a sighted colleague for a few days punch in and punch out to understand the rhythm of the machine. There is a slot to put a finger onto and the machine beeps in a certain pattern until it recognizes and accepts the employee's finger print, it keeps beeping and once the print is accepted, it acknowledges with alonger beep sound which comes after a while so its a matter of practice. I got to understand from sighted colleagues that once it recognizes the employee the machine flashes the photograph on the screen. However, there is a portal for employees and unit supervisors to check attendance and that portal isn't accessible so still trying to understand how to put across accessibility to them on that. Suggestions are welcome. Payal Jethra. On 9/21/23, Amar Jain wrote: > > > Thank you Nidhi and Sanjay. > > I am not in favour of advising to seek exemption. Re: [AI] Blind Parenting guidance
Hi Asif, There are unlimited resources in accessible format for all subjects. Some websites offer online tutorials/tests whereas others allow downloadable PDFs. More so with online learning, there are various platforms that offer demo classes & then share worksheets as per the requirement of the parent/student. https://swiflearn.com/revision-notes/english-grammar/class-5/adjectives/ This is only one of the various resources online. Happy to talk or discuss if you need any more support. This is a wonderful opportunity to bond & spend time with our Angels. Enjoy! Re: [AI] Blind Parenting guidance
Hi gufran You can call me Payal not Mam. You do have a point. There's plenty of challenges with remote learning. A lot of apps aren't accessible & yes it is simply impossible to keep 100% check on what children are studying online, which is why the long term bonding & relation we've worked on with our Angels comes in handy. They'll want to come & share with us. They'll wanna describe to us whatever is going on or displayed on screen which is one way they're reinforcing what they've learnt. Here's where alot of mixed approaches come in handy. What works for you may not work for me and viceversa. We've got to explore & enjoy the process. Please feel free to call /whatsapp 7303448295 like I mentioned we've got a 'positive parenting' whatsapp group for visually challenged parents & will add you to the group. Lets enjoy & make the most of these times with our little & not so little ones. Meanwhile, here's a recent blog you might wish to read & enjoy while you're sipping a piping hot cup of tea. https://www.momspresso.com/parenting/memoirs-of-a-single-parent/article/the-tom-and-jerry-show-wqlktlq9bfg7 All good wishes, Payal Jethra Phone: 7303448295 On 8/9/21, gufran ahmed wrote: > Hi mam since it is a wonderful discussion is going on, I too a father of 3 > kids having 2 sons and a daughter. > > I have tried to go with some online learning apps like byju’s vedantu etc. > although byju’s well designed for the kids, but these apps generally > in-accessible for us.
