I must say, rest of everything else, you have to prepare and be ready

All in all it is pretty doable once you get down to doing it. Get yourself a

Also, prepare hard and try to get into a good college through competition.

 Hi Arpit,

Your primary problem will be getting material in accessible format. You
really can't prepare for this. You need to take this one step at a time.
The other hurdles that I see is you having to clear competitive exams.
Again, you would need to get preparatory material in accessible format.
Also, you would need to have to engage with the authorities regarding any
 accommodations you need.

The courses themselves will not be such an issue. The hurdle of getting
material in accessible format remains. You will also have to find a way of
rendering mathematical content effectively. As long as your professors
co-operate, this is not a significant issue.

You need to be very familiar with the tools and technology you use. Other
than that, research the materials you need thoroughly.

Re: [AI] Jaws keys for internet on labtop

2008-05-10 Thread Ramit Luthra
Hello,
Even if you shift to laptop keyboard layout, the only insert key in ur
laptop will continue to perform same functions as it does otherwise.
the problem I might guess could be that jaws may not be recognizing
the insert key of your laptop. To check it out, do:
1. Open the internet explorer.
2. Press insert+1 to toggle the Keyboard Help mode on.
3. press insert+f7 — If you here something Brings up a dialog
containing a list of links present in the page — would mean that
everything is fine and jaws is recognizing the insert key input and
also the specified script (to open the link list dialog) does exist
for such input.
If everything is fine what could be the problem? huh? well do it
first and then ask.

Re: [AI] Excellent job oriented training

2008-01-28 Thread Ramit Luthra
Hello Mr. Dipendra,

I have gone through the website, the course catalog demo has been
provided in video format (if I landed right), however I've got the
enough overview of the course, but few questions have blown up in my
mind, about the online classes, if they be held in video format, would
they be comfortable for a VC person to comprehend each and everything?
Especially those, that are related to hardware assembling/plugging.

Secondly, (I personally don't think so,) but still, just to clarify
whether there are any special online classes for VCs being organized?
(Referring to the first batch, as you have stated).

I assume these and other things must have already been sorted out. If
Yes, then the course could prove to be a great help in widening career
opportunities for VCs.

Thanks,
Ramit

Re: [AI] inactivity after start up

2007-12-15 Thread Ramit Luthra
Hello,
Various reasons could be put forward for this problem.
As you said, you are having this bug once in a while and that too,
after jaws starts, so to me, the best solution to begin with could be,
that you should turn off the auto-start option of jaws and have jaws
starts manually. This way, you may determine whether jaws is causing
the halt.

Meanwhile, does it ever happen that your computer shuts down or
restarts automatically? Or, you are facing frequent halts (even for a
moment or so,) when you run a programme or while you are working
constantly?
If that were so, your RAM might be having some problem, and you may
require to get it replaced.

Computer is a little cosmos, complex and inter-dependent, unaware
creatures unable to figure out whether hydrogen or helium causes the
bigbang or whether bigbang causes them both.

Re: [AI] Visually impaired Ayurvedic doctor helps clear skin and hair

2007-12-07 Thread Ramit Luthra
Hi folks,
I never happen to see such great personality on any of the Media

spotlighting this extravagant VC?

By the way, The news portals are open for public submition. So go and
flame the imagination.

P.S. Goodluck for the organization Blind Dream but I suspect that
the sender is already owning the one

Visually-impaired Ayurvedic doctor helps clear skin and hair

 Finger on the pulse

He feels your pulse for a minute or two, lets go of your hand and has a fair
idea of what ails you. Pulse diagnose may be a regular practice in Ayurveda,
but Dr Sameer Mansuri's supersensitivity to any ailment has another reason,
Dr Mansuri is visually-impaired by birth! And according to him it is his
 handicap
that has given him this power. Your concentration decreases by 50 per cent
when you can see, as you are distracted by everything around you. I am happy
to be blind because it helps my work! says the 32-year-old Ayurvedic
 doctor.
Besides providing diagnosis and treatment for diseases like diabetes, blood
pressure and other serious ailments, the doctor specializes in beauty
 treatments
for enhancing complexion, slimming and better hair growth! And this has
brought a whole lot of Bollywood artistes scurrying to his clinic in
 suburban Mumbai.
Bollywood celebs like Hrithik Roshan, Salman Khan, Viveik Oberoi, Ashmit
Patel, Subhash Ghai, newcomer Harman Baweja and other are his friends and
 patients.

As a professional doctor it would be unethical disclose what my patients
suffer from, but the basic problem for many actors is the same. Low-energy
 level,
stress, skin blemishes and rashes because of make-up and harsh lights.
Because of their stressful lives and erratic schedules many also suffer from
 hair
loss and thinning. Ayurveda has ample solutions for these problems. People
like Harman Baweja came to me after trying other treatments and were very
 happy
with my treatment for his acne, says the doctor.

While producer-director Subhash Ghai acknowledges that it helped elevate his
energy levels, Ashmit Patel uses his shampoo and oil for those silken
 tresses.

Dr Mansuri is not only a graduate in Ayurved but a PhD in the science of
Ayurved and Alternative Medicine from the open university of Colombo, and
 has trained
more than 500 doctors in the field of Ayurvedic medicines. He refutes the
charges that Ayurvedic medicinie can have side- effects because of the metal
content. One has to learn and understand the correct mix and proportion.
What is good for one can be poison for another. Knowing the fine difference
 is
a gift and one which I have been blessed with, says the doctor cheerfully.

Ayurveda has also taken a knocking for substandard medicines and treatments
being long drawn out. Refutes the doctor slowly. Most ailments today are
 the
results of a wrong lifestyle, so the first thing we do is to cleanse the
internal system with our medicines. This improves the blood circulation,
 rids
the body of impurities, and slowly everything else just falls into place.
The treatment can be anything from 45 days to three months depending on the
 ailment.
Harman for one saw a drastic improvement in his skin within seven days of
applying our herbal masks. We have short-term treatments which show effect
 after
two weeks. As for substandard stuff being used. Ayurvedic ingredients like
pearl, gold and kasturi are very expensive so many docs may use cheaper
 substitutes
and steroids but I source my ingredients from the Himalayas, Punjab, Andhra
Pradesh and other states. Don't forget Ayurved is being practiced since
 centuries
and was the treatment for our rajas and maharajas, he
says, also adding that since his problem is congenital there is no cure,
but he has treated many blind people and helped them recover their eyesight.

Re: [AI] Here's Your Diwali Gift!

2007-11-18 Thread Ramit Luthra
What about the Center?
The official language at the central level is English as well as
Hindi. but it's true that English has been dominating since
independence. Legislations, executive's actions, Supreme/High Court's
verdicts are primarily in English. Our ministers (those who can speak
English) prefer English outside/inside the country. Application forms
even for D-grade jobs are printed in English. Therefore one is left
with no option but to strive to learn English. These days when
government jobs are tightly contested by VCs and private sector
requires good English speaking skills, it has become necessary that
special schools must strive hard to develop such skills in VCs.

As far as development of local computing solutions is concerned, as I
stated in my previous mail, it's on the part of government/leading
private firms to take initiative with real interest and commitment
rather than to show off pseudo patriotism. They may go for contracts
with companies like Ms and insure their profits in the country, or
they start developing on their own. If India could develop super
computers solely, why can't it develop a mere OS?

Regards,
Ramit

Don't you think that by the time 10% population of India tries to teach rest

have a PC in our own language where we understand every word of what is
written on it and not just keep struggling with written word which are half
 understood?

The fact is also that official language of UP is Hindi and all letters are
supposed to be written and typed in Hindi only. Similarly official language
of Punjab is Punjabi. The case is the same in many of the Indian states. We
need English till we want to serve and work for over seas customers only. We
really cannot make English as first language of every Indian. Thus why not
have option of computing in our First language and have option of English on
the computers for an important second language which keeps us integrated to
 the rest of the world?

When France can survive without English why can't we?

Thus the remedy is both ways. We may encourage English education but we also
 need Indian Language computing development

I feel bad when all non-English speaking persons become second grade
 citizens in our own country.

not possible for all blinds in third World countries including India.

I did not mean to advocate piracy at all.
I take it as a normal instance in which we had come across to
something very fine that could help us (VCs) in our lives. As usual,
we just wanted to try out the thing but we had been told by the vendor
that one of the components (main one for us in terms of that solution)
was available from somewhere else (and that we'd have to pay to get
it). But we wanted to try out the thing first; before we spend
anything. And what happens in such situation happened with us. We
excavated the component and shared among us. And what the clymax had
turned out to be is something we all know….

But my little brain still not able to understand that if something
would be sold for Rs.2000 or 3000, would it mean that the effort had
been of some months behind the development of that thing?

Oh my goodness! This thread has produced many hyper/hot posts during
last few days, yes it should die now.

The Diwali has been gone, the gift has been distributed, the remarks
have been exchanged, so it's time to say happy belated Dewali to
everybody again!

Regards,
Ramit

If some one wants to sell some months of work at Rs. 2000 or 3000 then
prologix certainly has this right too.

If eloquance is available with jaws at 6 USD it is because they could

Rs. 2000 per PC, Hmm? Give me break!
Now, if some software vendor wants to provide a hindi speech output
  through
his application (which he's selling at the cost of Rs. 2/3000 for
  instance,)
the user of such application has to buy Vachak separately for Rs. 2000
  (just
  costing nearly to the application
price,) the total cost he's to spend would become Rs. 4/5000, Would it be
considered it a low cost product (in purely Indian standard?) Compare to
  it,
ViaVoice/Eloquence (developped by IBM, and is being used in Jaws,); the
English speech synthesizer costs about six dollars (Rs. 250,) per end-user
  (included in the application price).
This meagre amount looks pretty but it's actually right because end-user
has nothing to do with the synthesizer, it's just a component of the
application like Jaws who has actually bought the developer version of the
synthesizer which costs about Rs. 1. So, there must be some diference
between Run-Time licenses (Which are given along with the application to
  the
end-users) and developer licenses (which are bought by applications'
  vendors).

If components are being sold for such high price, how could you think that
applications' vendors would ever be able to include them in their
  products?

Just wonder if some version of Microsoft Windows cost nearly about the
  price
at which a laptop being sold, would anybody buy such OS for his personal

is because we think we can get away with stealing while someone else
 does the hard work.
...or maybe we are so used to living off of charity that we believe
everything should be free for us just because we are disadvantaged in
 some way.

 Manish

Subject: Re: [AI] Here's Your Diwali Gift!

I feel sad when piracy goes full swing even for low costing solutions.

We are left with no face to speak to any manufacturers to put up any
 time
 for developing solutions for us.

If we are so stingy in spending then why don't we simply shift to open
source domain where all solutions are available free of cost and we can
 stop
 living like thieves.

There is no windows for Indian Languages
There is no OCR in Indian language
There is no decent TTS for any Indian language.

This is the cost that we pay when we do piracy.

We complain that no one made SAPI compliant TTS. It takes 6 months of 4
programmers to make non SAPI TTS into a SAPi compliant one. If Prologix
decides to do it for us then we will make them to starv or force them to
close down their company due to losses.

We cannot scan any Indian language books. We all complain about this.
 Why do
you think ABBYY would be interested to create a Indian language OCR? Do
 you
think they will be able to recover their cost here?

 Is Vachak so unaffordable?

Yes, but it's very difficult to fish out the legitimate one.

Paypal is a type of online bank for money transaction. It's highly
popular throughout the world for this purpose. Through Paypal, you can
send/receive money via your email ID, pay to shop online, use your
credit card securely and much more.

Re: [AI] Here's Your Diwali Gift!

2007-11-15 Thread Ramit Luthra
Hello,
You should not run files with the extention .z01/2... Just run the
file with the extention .zip because else files are just subsidiaries
of this main file. And yes you should extract the main file to start
the installation. It will automatically extract all the subsidiaries.
Note you must have winzip or other similar tool which support splitted
zip file format.

Regarding licensing Vachak, I don't know, it should have worked if
you'd followed the steps exactly because it's been working fine with
me. Anyway, I've separately uploaded license files which you can
download from

ProLicense.dat:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/4i8y0k

ProLicense.txt:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/bao3bn

Now, try this out again:
1. Go to your Vachak directory (in program files, where Vachak has
been installed, insure: This directory must have more than 8/9 files,
some files must be named something similar to 'vachak.dll',
'lang.dll'.)
2. Copy both the license files you just downloaded. (If Confirm file
replace dialog appears, click Yes to All/Yes button)
3. Go to the program folder of LSW (Insure: This folder must have more
than 20 files, some names are – 'DocEdit.exe', 'license.rtf', 'user
manual.def'.)
4. Copy both the downloaded license files here too (Click Yes if any
replace confirmation dialog appears.)
5. Now Start document editor, run Vani with F5, choose Hindi... from
the language menu, and type something, if Vani speeks the typed
character, Hurrah!

If this doesn't work, Tell me, I have one last alternative.

Re: [AI] Get the engine here

2007-11-08 Thread Ramit Luthra
Here's the whole process step-by-step for Ashish sir and others.
1. Download all four files in a same folder (For instance, C:\Vaachak).
2. Run/extract the main Vaachak.zip file (Let's Assume in the same
directory C:\Vaachak)
3. Now There's to be one folder named Vachak inside the Vaachak
folder, open this folder and There's gotta be folder named Programs,
open this folder and run SETUP.EXE or SETUP (depending on the folder
option settings of your system), and follow the instruction to install
the program.
4. After you done with Vaachak installation, revert to the previous
folder named Vachak, now, copy both the files named ProLicense.dat and
ProLicense.txt and paste them into the program folder of Vaachak (that
should be c:\Program files\Prologix Software Solutions Pvt
Ltd\VaachakSapi. Note: If there's any confirm replacement dialog click
Yes.
5. Now go to the program folder of LsW (that should be C:\Program
Files\Language Sweet For Windows, and paste both the ProLicense files
here also.
6. Run Document Editor++Vani, and open any Hindi document and listen
whether Vani reads Hindi or not.
7. If you still encounterred the dam dialog Please check your license
validity, just follow these few steps to get it done:
(I) Restart the application (Document Editor), and open that Hindi
document via recent files list and not via Open dialog. Oh, Don't ask
me! The list is in the file menu. Yeah, that numerically ascending
file paths following the Print command.
(II) Vani should have started reading Hindi text, Na?

  Hi,
Did you not read the Introductory page?
Anyway, Vani is an in-built screen reader, you don't require to
  download/install it separately.
You can run Vani from the Tools menu of the Document Editor or by
pressing the shortcut F5. Note because it's an in-built screen reader,
it works only on Document Editor and nowhere else. So, if you want to
read newspapers, just copy the text to Document Editor's Document and
you done. Also remember: The text you copy (I mean the Hindi text,)
must be Unicode-format text, because font-based Hindi text doesn't
remain constant while copying, (actually, it's a pseudo Hindi text,
because what it shows could be Hindi, but what is actually written
behind and what computer understands is English alphabets.) You can
determine whether the Hindi text you're reading/copying is
Unicode-format text or not by simply pressing the Jaws's keystroke
numpad5 (sayCharacter) thrice and if it says anything between
  character 2305-2430 means that it's a unicode-format Hindi text.

Also remember: You must have copied both license files of Vachak to
LSW's program folder before you could read Hindi, otherwise, Vachak
would show an error everytime you try to read Hindi text.

  About Vaachak,
Well regarding sendspace, I think uploaded file's lifespan is very
small on sendspace (just about few weeks I suppose.) Anyway, I'll try
to upload it to sendspace also.

   1. Download all the four files in a same folder (I repeat, same
   folder).
   2. Run or extract the file Vaachak.zip.
   3. Make sure that the size of the newly extracted Vachak folder must
be around 46m (if it's not, I afrade there could be an error somewhere
in the process you'd just gone through.)
   4. Read the file Vaachak License Read me.txt and follow the

Well Anubha,
Regarding Kurzwel, I can't help because I don't use it, but I think
you should try Finereader (which is the most famous OCR software among
VCs I suppose,) and it's very mutch accessible with Jaws.
Just a suggestion.

Re: [AI] Increaseing hearing problems among visually impaired

2007-10-07 Thread Ramit Luthra
Don't use headphone if you care for your ears my friend.
Initially, I'd also started with headphones at my workplace but the
experience had been traumatic. Within 10-15 days only, I started
having constant pain in one of my ears and that very day I decided to
give it up. I bought my own speakers. And installed at my workplace.
Now you must be wondering that either I would be possessing a single
cabin for myself or I would have been complained by colleagues for
disturbance? But nothing went either way. I had a cabin of four
employees and to couple/triple it, other cabins were also connected to
it both at the frunt and at the back and that too the cabins were just
like as that of what we use to have in cyber cafe (without walls). But
nobody complained -- reason being the very low sound at which I used
to listen to. Ok.
So, it's my strong advice that use headphones occasionally -- not as
the only mean... It's better to listen a bit wrong at first rather
than to lose it later all together.
And lastly, you'll become habitual listening at a low voice within few
days... the same way that habituates a VC to these robotic voices
(that are not intelligible to sighted persons). After all, man
inherits his quality of adaptability as that of other species from
nature!
