Hello friends.
Turning the virtual curser off, the select all option does not work on
that website. It is a password protected international law website.

The moment I put it on again, the control all command works well...but
then its the same old story once again. There is no end to my agonies

Thanks a lot for the patient hearing.

Dear Moiz

Do you have Westlaw's password? If yes, then I might have a solution to
resolve your issue. Just let me know in either case.
I think we will have to try downloading from a download manager. Just try
to download a free download manager from this URL:

http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/scripts/downl.php?file_id=1

(If there's any problem with the given link, just copy it to your Internet

I'll tell you about it more when you reply to this next time.

 Hi Syed
A simpler way is to close the virtual mode by pressing Insert + z.
Thereafter ctrl + a and Ctrl+c should also work as it is not picked from
 the
 virtual buffer.

example.
I have given a paragraph in 2 different illustrations as to show how exactly
a paragraph with links might appear on the screen and how Jaws reads for us.
I think it is necessary for us to know how virtual viewer works, to
understand why line breaks appear when we copy any data from Internet
explorer

I) Illustration 1 How does a web page appear on the screen? (not
virtualised)
--

The process of pickling fruits and vegetables:

Some LINK fruits and LINK vegetables preserved by pickling. The
fruit/vegetable washed and dried. Then it is cut into pieces and enough salt
is added. These pieces are kept in the sun. LINK Oil and LINK spices are
added. The pickle
are stored in a LINK dry jar with a tight lid. A dry spoon is used to stir
and take the pickle from the jar. The pickle will spoil if a wet spoon is
used.

In this illustration, you can observe jaws saying Link in the middle of
the line. I think this is how a link element appears on the screen.
But whenever Jaws encounters any links in a web page, it breaks the line to
present them in a separate line as to make more accessible and also to an
extent, save the time of the readers. Let me try to give an idea about the
same in the 2nd illustration:
ii) Illustration 2 How does Jaws virtualise the content? (virtualised)

The process of pickling fruits and vegetables:

Some
LINK fruits and
LINK vegetables
preserved by pickling. The fruit/vegetable washed and dried. Then it is cut
into pieces and enough salt

LINK Oil
and
LINK spices are added. The pickle are stored in a
Link dry jar
with a tight lid. A dry spoon is used to stir and take the pickle from the
jar. The pickle will spoil if a wet spoon is used.

So this is how Jaws arranges the data in the web page after virtualising.
However, when you copy this text to Microsoft Word, you will observe the
text broken something like this:

Some
fruits and
vegetables
Instead of:
Some fruits and vegetables
We can surely remove the line breaks by pressing CTRL+downarrow and then
back space followed by space bar as Vetry said, but it takes lot of time.
Especially the lengthy documents. So when you want to copy anything from
internet explorer, don't use selecting keys like Shift+downarrow, or ctrl+A
to select the text. follow these simple steps exactly to copy the exact
information without line or page breaks.

1. Open the web page from which you want to copy

2. Press Alt+E to pull down edit menu.

3. Choose Select all, by pressing A.
We can't press CTRL+A directly instead of pulling down edit menu because
Jaws will select from its virtual buffer. And I think Moiz, this could be
the cause of your problem.

4. Again pull down the edit menu (Alt E) and choose copy by pressing C.
Now what actually happens is that when you select all and copy from the edit
menu, the data gets directly copied from Internet explorer and not from Jaws
virtual buffer.

5. Open Microsoft word with a new document.

6. Paste whatever is copied from internet.
This will paste the entire web page in your new documents including
pictures, tables, links etc.

7. Keep whatever you want and delete unnecessary stuff.

Some tips:

1. If you don't want pictures, tables and links, then paste it in notepad
and then copy it to Microsoft word

2. However if you want tables, then paste it in wordpad and after selecting
the pasted text, copy it to Microsoft word.

3. If you suspect that there are hyperlinks still in the edited document,
press CTRL+A and press CTRL+SHIFT+F9 to clear the hyperlink attribute from
the entire document.

I am still searching for some easier way to copy from web pages and will be
thankful if anyone could help in this regard.

For your success

Excellent.

I normally use the paste special option under edit menu in ms word. The
default choice under this menu is as html. Using ctrl+v performs it. But it
also gives option for pasting unformatted text etc. Using this feature
pastes the text only retaining line breaks.

Best regards,

Hello Moiz and my dear list members,

This is a lengthy E-mail. I like to share my technique of copying any data
from web pages in its original format including tables and hyperlinks. I
assure you that if you perform these operations correctly, you can copy the
exact data appearing on the screen. I further make myself clear to you that
the copied data will be free from line-breaks and page-breaks. So I hope you
don't mind spending some of your time with me to read this mail carefully.
Before telling you how to copy, I want to make you aware of a curious
technology which Freedomscientific is using in order to make web documents
accessible by using something called Virtual PC cursor. The virtual PC
cursor performs the function of copying and differentiating headings, links,
formfields, and other such elements on a web page. This is called
Virtualising. Virtualising includes finding out the different elements on
a web page, layout of tables, etc and making these elements appear in a
seperate line. The text we read using jaws in a web page is not what a
sighted person reads on the screen. Let me make it easy to understand by an
example.
I have given a paragraph in 2 different illustrations as to show how exactly
a paragraph with links might appear on the screen and how Jaws reads for us.
I think it is necessary for us to know how virtual viewer works, to
understand why line breaks appear when we copy any data from Internet
explorer

Some tips:

Thanks a lot for the detailed explanation.
Well I have been doing the same thing. It isnt wworking. I managed to
exactly copy a page from the Hindu's website to ms word. But the
journals that I am looking at...strangely enough...its not happening.
Pulling down the edit menu, typing A for the select all command...this
is what I did but the thing is not getting selected.
Now does i.e. have different standards for different pages or what.
 I'm clueless.
Using another brouzer can be tried as an option. But with all that was
said about virtualization, do you still think it'll make any

Hello Moiz and my dear list members,

This is a lengthy E-mail. I like to share my technique of copying any
 data
from web pages in its original format including tables and
 hyperlinks.
 I
assure you that if you perform these operations correctly, you can
 copy
 the
exact data appearing on the screen. I further make myself clear to
 you
 that
the copied data will be free from line-breaks and page-breaks. So I
 hope
 you
don't mind spending some of your time with me to read this mail
 carefully.
Before telling you how to copy, I want to make you aware of a curious
technology which Freedomscientific is using in order to make web
 documents
accessible by using something called Virtual PC cursor. The virtual
 PC
cursor performs the function of copying and differentiating headings,
 links,
formfields, and other such elements on a web page. This is called
Virtualising. Virtualising includes finding out the different
 elements
 on
a web page, layout of tables, etc and making these elements appear in
 a
seperate line. The text we read using jaws in a web page is not what a
sighted person reads on the screen. Let me make it easy to understand
 by
 an
 example.
I have given a paragraph in 2 different illustrations as to show how
 exactly
a paragraph with links might appear on the screen and how Jaws reads
 for
 us.
I think it is necessary for us to know how virtual viewer works, to
understand why line breaks appear when we copy any data from Internet
 explorer

 I) Illustration 1 How does a web page appear on the screen

Being the authorized user I can forward the issues to the freedom
scientific. But it would be good if someone could structure the question
properly and send it over to me. I could do it myself, but under a bit of
tight schedule at the moment.

 Turnining

you have to delete the entire unwanted stuff.

 Hi Syed
A simpler way is to close the virtual mode by pressing Insert + z.
Thereafter ctrl + a and Ctrl+c should also work as it is not picked from
 the
 virtual buffer.

 Hi Moiz

Your issue really interests me and kindles my curiocity. Are you
 running
Windows XP? If not, no problem.
Just try this and let us know

 1. Login to the site where you want to copy the journals from and quit
 Jaws.
 2. Open run diolog box (Windows+R) and type narrator then push enter
You should hear an old man speaking. This is called Narrator. It is a
screen-reading software comes with Windows XP.
 3. Using Alt+TAB, move to your internet explorer window which you
 already
 have opened
Making sure that your Jaws is inactive,
 4. Press ctrl +A and CTRL+C
 5. Start Jaws and quit Narrator.
 6. Now paste it in Microsoft Word and let us know the result.
I think you can try repairing Microsoft Internet Explorer if it doesn't
 work
Meanwhile, It would be bit easier if we were to know the website your

Instead of using the copy cut paste command through controlC and controlV,
just do it from the edit menu, you'll retain the exact layout of the page in
the word which you have seen on the net. Although this may not sound logical
in the first place, using copy cut paste through controlC and controlV is
very much different from doing the same using the edit menu in terms of
producing results.

Re: [AI] page breaks with jaws.

2007-04-25 Thread Viraj Kafle
I think the edit menu option works only if we are copying the whole webpage.
In that case, simply going to the edit menu and clicking the select all
option, then going to the edit menu and clicking the copy option, and
finally going to the word document option and pasting the copied content
works very well. This is probably because, in this method, the system
copies the content of the webpage as it is and not the way jaws virtualises
it. However, when it comes to copy the selected texts and not the entire
webpage, then I think this method hardly works. You need to select the
content with the usual shift down errow, go to the edit menu and do the
rest. Since the selected text is virtualised, there is an ample chance of
the layout being spoiled in the word document.

May I know why do you need to copy the internet content in the word
document? Probably your main purpose will help us more to suggest
alternative methods.

Regards.

[AI] page breaks and jaws.

2007-04-24 Thread moiz tundawalla
Hello.
Using the cut, copy and paste commands with jaws while transfering
data on a web page into a word document produces peculiar results. The
stuff comes up all right but then page breaks get inserted
automatically. This has been a major irritant over the past few years.
How do I resolve the issue?
My apologies for raising the issue once again. But I couldnt quite
figure out what exactly was said the last time around.
I reiterate that I am no computer geek. So please try to be a bit
elaborate in your explanations.
Thanks a lot in advance,

Just to add to your point, not only page breaks, but also lines get
inserted. What I do is a bit lengthier process, but at least it works for
me. Starting from the top of a particular paragraph, keep pressing
control+down aero. Each time you press it, you will be in a continuing
paragraph and just press back-space and spacebar ones to remove the
unnecessary lines and to make sure that words are not merged. When you get
to the end of a paragraph, then you will here blank. Just leave out that
blank line and go to the next paragraph. Repeat these steps until the end of
the document. I would also like to know from others if there is a quicker
and easier process than the one I have just described.

Subject: [AI] page breaks and jaws.

Thanks a lot in advance,
Moiz.

2007-04-24 Thread Subramani L
This is what I do, when I have to cut/paste an article from e-mail to
word. When you do that the sentences are broken and sometimes the
para-breaks given by the writer would miss out.
