Not a bad publicity stunt to temporarily set up a customer with a $1200

I’m ready to deliver 10Gbps SFP+ to the side of customer’s houses.

But since it tranceives to copper, I was going to be limited.

This would help, esp if a cheap transceiver is made between SFP+ and the
 new copper standard.

All the cloud tools we have seen at tradeshows are working as described

 2x20MHz Channel, 346.7Mbit PHY Rate, B5 Integrated, 3.64 miles.
2x20MHz Channel, 173.3Mbit PHY Rate, B5C, 14.73 miles. (This link may be

 2x20MHz Channel, 260Mbit PHY Rate, B5C, 14.39 miles.
 2x20MHz Channel, 231.1Mbit PHY Rate, B5, 8.72 miles.

I installed 3 of these myself. I found the installation process to be
relatively easy, and they have some neat little tweaks. The WiFi alignment

[AFMUG] 13.3 Open Beta

2014-12-03 Thread Jonathan Mandziara via Af
AF Community,

Please visit the Cambium Networks webpage to down load the Open Beta version of
13.3 for PMP450 and PTP450 radios.

https://support.cambiumnetworks.com/files/pmp450/beta
https://support.cambiumnetworks.com/files/ptp450/beta

  * PMP320 Co-location (5ms Frame support) (This will work on all bands, but
intended for 3.5 and 3.65 at this time.)
  *   7MHz Channel Bandwidth for 3.5 and 3.65 radios
  * Removal of the PTP450 Map for faster link speeds
  *   SNMPv3
  *   HTTPS
  * Ability to turn off Telnet, FTP and TFTP
  * Read-Only Accounts for Admin, Install, and Tech
  *   Sector SA
  * Export of Sessions Status Page
  *   Config File export/Import for AP/BHM and SM/BHS
NOTE: PMP320 co-location works best when both the PMP450 and PMP320 are on CMM
synch sources. Cambium is writing a paper on how to adjust the radios to best
deal with other synch sources, although the radios will still work together
without adjustment with some impact to throughput.
We look forward to you feedback on this release either in this forum or at:
http://community.cambiumnetworks.com/t5/PMP-Beta/bd-p/forums_pmp_beta

Best,
Cambium Jonathan

  *   7MHz Channel Bandwidth for 3.5 and 3.65 radios
  * Removal of the PTP450 Map for faster link speeds
  *   SNMPv3
  *   HTTPS
  * Ability to turn off Telnet, FTP and TFTP
  * Read-Only Accounts for Admin, Install, and Tech

Re: [AFMUG] 13.3 Open Beta

2014-12-03 Thread Aaron Schneider via Af
When running Sector Spectrum Analyzer (SA), once the sector is done, you'll be
able to go through the scan results for the AP as well as all of the SMs (via
the Remote SA page).

For the PTP Map removal, Jonathan is correct in the throughput improvement.
But be aware that you MUST upgrade the far end first as it is an
incompatibility in the air interface.

Gino,

Great questions!

Sector SA is a feature that runs a SA on the AP and all the SMs registered to
it at the same time to get a true picture of the RF environment the AP and the
SMs are seeing without the influence of the APs energy.

The removal of the MAP in the PTP450 will give around an increase of 3.2 Mbps
on each Channel Bandwidth.

https://support.cambiumnetworks.com/files/ptp450/beta
?PMP320 Co-location (5ms Frame support) (This will work on all bands,
but intended for 3.5 and 3.65 at this time.)
?7MHz Channel Bandwidth for 3.5 and 3.65 radios
?Removal of the PTP450 Map for faster link speeds
?SNMPv3
?HTTPS
?Ability to turn off Telnet, FTP and TFTP
?Read-Only Accounts for Admin, Install, and Tech
?Sector SA
?Export of Sessions Status Page
?Config File export/Import for AP/BHM and SM/BHS
NOTE: PMP320 co-location works best when both the PMP450 and PMP320 are on CMM
synch sources. Cambium is writing a paper on how to adjust the radios to best
deal with other synch sources, although the radios will still work together
without adjustment with some impact to throughput.

13.3 is for PMP450 and PTP450 only. ;)

That being said, we are close to having a 13.2.1 ready that fixes the issues
reported with 13.2 including the PTP230 reboot issue. We have found that the
problem is VLAN related and only affects PTP230.

At this time, 13.2 is for PMP450 and PTP450 Only.

The fix for PTP230 is coming soon.

https://support.cambiumnetworks.com/files/ptp450/beta

?PMP320 Co-location (5ms Frame support) (This will work on all bands,
but intended for 3.5 and 3.65 at this time.)

?7MHz Channel Bandwidth for 3.5 and 3.65 radios

?Removal of the PTP450 Map for faster link speeds

?SNMPv3

?HTTPS

?Ability to turn off Telnet, FTP and TFTP

?Read-Only Accounts for Admin, Install, and Tech

?Sector SA

?Export of Sessions Status Page

?Config File export/Import for AP/BHM and SM/BHS

*NOTE:* PMP320 co-location works best when both the PMP450 and PMP320
are on CMM synch sources. Cambium is writing a paper on how to adjust
the radios to best deal with other synch sources, although the radios
will still work together without adjustment with some impact to
throughput.

Matt,

Sorry, I did not realize that there were other questions in the thread.

Q) Will this work with Purwave wimax?
A) All of the 5ms frame testing and verification work that we have been testing
against is the 3.5 and 3.65 PMP320 units. Can you give it a try with Purwave
Wimax and let us know?

Q) How much t-put will we gain?
I do not understand the context of this question. How much more T-put is
gained going from a 2.5ms frame to a 5ms frame?

Q) How much faster?
A) 3.2 Mbps (in each BW)- Be sure to upgrade the far side of the link first

S) This is really cool reading release notes. Wish we had it on FSK as well.
A) We hear you. We can't comment on FSK support at this time.

I do not have any purwave but there is some of it around here. Will
see if we get less interference going 5ms frame. Think I might wait a
bit to let others go first though.

 Q) How much t-put will we gain?
I do not understand the context of this question. How much more T-put is
gained going from a 2.5ms frame to a 5ms frame?

In release notes I think it states that 5ms frame should have less
overhead so more throughput along with double latency.

 Q) How much faster?
 A) 3.2 Mbps (in each BW)- Be sure to upgrade the far side of the link first

I still wish there was a max range setting on the PTP450 units. We
seem to run into issues when PTP230 units boot up without there range
setting determined yet. They clash with others that are linked
already due to data slots misaligned is what I figure.

 S) This is really cool reading release notes. Wish we had it on FSK as well.
 A) We hear you. We can't comment on FSK support at this time.

I’m going to try this out as soon as I can get a 450AP 3.65 on the site.

Question - the comment about CMM timing source. Was this ‘it works best if
all devices have the same timing source’ or is there something specific to the
CMM itself? Is ask because we usually use LMG CTM’s at these sites. The
timing all comes from the same timing source, but it’s not your CMM.

For those of you who haven't heard, several of us started a new project
 yesterday.

 https://github.com/esseph/groundcontrol

Licensing is tentatively set as falling under GPLv2.

We have already been offered code snippets, a dev box, a db server, and
several people have decided to volunteer time to make this happen.

The initial idea is that the system itself will be free, with a possibly
paid support/features option, or maybe a model similar to observium where
the is a community (free as in beer) version that comes out every 6mo
or so, and a paid version with newer features and direct support. We're
not sure yet, but we want to make this project accessible and fairly
 vendor-neutral.

If any of you could volunteer time, support, code, documentation, ideas,
etc. it would be greatly appreciated. This is a project by and for the
 WISP community. Thank you!

All the different timing products, Packetflux, CTM, CMM have compatible
timing. There are differences, but they differences are tiny. However,
I would sync all co-located devices to the fewest number of devices you
can deal with. We are not 100% this way, and we've gotten away with it
for the most part. BUT, timing problems are a royal PITA to troubleshoot.

Question - the comment about CMM timing source. Was this ‘it works
best if all devices have the same timing source’ or is there something
specific to the CMM itself? Is ask because we usually use LMG CTM’s
at these sites. The timing all comes from the same timing source,
but it’s not your CMM.

A trick our tower climbers taught me is to wear a pair of the thick latex
5mm+ gloves underneath a set of lighter, tighter stretchy winter gloves.
This allows you to retain much more dexterity without sacrificing much
warmth. Ever since using this trick, i RARELY get cold fingers. I can
typically make a set of the rubber gloves last a couple days of taking them
on and off. You can pick up a 500 pack for pretty cheap. They are usually
a sweet black or purple color. Very stylish. It goes against everything
I've been taught as far as winter clothes and breath-ability, but it
actually works. Your hands will be sweaty, but warm. You also will be
able to hold bolts and nuts. The other added benefit is that if you have
to remove your gloves to do something like put an ethernet end on, you just
leave the rubbers on and slip your outter glove off. Your hand doesnt get
cold near as fast because it's blocked from the wind somewhat.

I have since told a couple friends that work out in the cold all day long
doing construction, and they now buy those gloves by the case.

Wow those are 14mm. Very thick. Those would work great. Honestly have
never used nitrate gloves that thick. They may actually be tough to take
on and off because of the thickness and lack of stretch compared to the
lighter gloves.

These are what I typically use.

For those of you who haven't heard, several of us started a new project
yesterday.

https://github.com/esseph/groundcontrol

Licensing is tentatively set as falling under GPLv2.

We have already been offered code snippets, a dev box, a db server, and several
people have decided to volunteer time to make this happen.

The initial idea is that the system itself will be free, with a possibly paid
support/features option, or maybe a model similar to observium where the is a
community (free as in beer) version that comes out every 6mo or so, and a
paid version with newer features and direct support. We're not sure yet, but
we want to make this project accessible and fairly vendor-neutral.

If any of you could volunteer time, support, code, documentation, ideas, etc.
it would be greatly appreciated. This is a project by and for the WISP
community. Thank you!

Hi Jonathan,

The way Sector SA is being implemented won’t give the best
possible results in practice. Since it is not paying attention to the sync
pulses, but just coordinating running an AP spectrum scan with the SMs you are
still going to see a bunch of bogus energy from co-located access points. In
order to do this in a way where you can really see what the spectrum looks
like, the AP should only perform SA during its appointed receive windows and
not during the TX windows of other co-located equipment.

Another side effect for those of us running fancy beam forming
antenna arrays is we can never use ‘Sector SA’ at all, since it is listening
during the TX windows of other access points connected to the beam former and
getting high RF levels shoved into its RX side.

Ideally you'd run this on all same-band co-located sectors at the same
time. But yeah, my thought was close to yours. We have some towers only
a mile or two apart and the SMs will definitely pick them up. This is
one reason why I mentioned AP mode background SA. Schedule an Rx slot
for background SA and give me a 1 or 5 minute average of my current
channel. This is pretty much what happens with LBT now anyway.

And look at the in-service SA features now offered on the latest
RocketM5AC-Lite and upcoming mimosa products.. They can perform AP SA’s while
remaining in service by listening during spare RX cycles.. no need to take down
the AP or worse an entire tower.. everything pays attention to sync and you
keep in service.

Ideally you'd run this on all same-band co-located sectors at the same time.
But yeah, my thought was close to yours. We have some towers only a mile or two
apart and the SMs will definitely pick them up. This is one reason why I
mentioned AP mode background SA. Schedule an Rx slot for background SA and give
me a 1 or 5 minute average of my current channel. This is pretty much what
happens with LBT now anyway.

Hi Jonathan,

The way Sector SA is being implemented won’t give the best

order to do this in a way where you can really see what the spectrum looks
like, the AP should only perform SA during its appointed receive windows and
not during the TX windows of other co-located equipment.

Another side effect for those of us running fancy beam forming
antenna arrays is we can never use ‘Sector SA’ at all, since it is listening
during the TX windows of other access points connected to the beam former and
getting high RF levels shoved into its RX side.

AF Community,

Please visit the Cambium Networks webpage to down load the Open Beta version of
13.3 for PMP450 and PTP450 radios.

https://support.cambiumnetworks.com/files/pmp450/beta

https://support.cambiumnetworks.com/files/ptp450/beta

* PMP320 Co-location (5ms Frame support) (This will work on all bands,
but intended for 3.5 and 3.65 at this time.)
*   7MHz Channel Bandwidth for 3.5 and 3.65 radios
* Removal of the PTP450 Map for faster link speeds
*   SNMPv3
*   HTTPS
* Ability to turn off Telnet, FTP and TFTP
* Read-Only Accounts for Admin, Install, and Tech
*   Sector SA
* Export of Sessions Status Page
*   Config File export/Import for AP/BHM and SM/BHS

Best,

Cambium Jonathan

That product is good, so is Dow Corning DC4.

DC111 which is used as O-ring lubricant on antenna feedtubes is available in
ketchup packets, not sure DC4 comes that way. Plus a ketchup packet would
only be enough for maybe 2-3 RJ45 jacks.

Wow those are 14mm. Very thick. Those would work great. Honestly have never
used nitrate gloves that thick. They may actually be tough to take on and off
because of the thickness and lack of stretch compared to the lighter gloves.

These are what I typically use.

pick up a 500 pack for pretty cheap. They are usually a sweet black or purple
color. Very stylish. It goes against everything I've been taught as far as
winter clothes and breath-ability, but it actually works. Your hands will be
sweaty, but warm. You also will be able to hold bolts and nuts. The other
added benefit is that if you have to remove your gloves to do something like
put an ethernet end on, you just leave the rubbers on and slip your outter
glove off. Your hand doesnt get cold near as fast because it's blocked from
the wind somewhat.

I have since told a couple friends that work out in the cold all day long
doing construction, and they now buy those gloves by the case.

[AFMUG] Web Pages Loading Incomplete

2014-12-03 Thread Chris Fabien via Af
We have a customer who has a managed IP phone system and a managed mikrotik
router that we support (but not our Internet service). We are getting
intermittent reports of web pages not loading completely.

I was on site a couple weeks ago, and was able to duplicate the issue, in
particular outlook.com was not loading some images. I determined at that
time they were unable to access the IP that google DNS was providing for
the host serving those images. When I set our router to use their
provider's DNS servers, they were getting a different IP which was pingable
and the web page loaded completely.

I could not explain why it was working on their providers DNS and not on
google DNS (which we use frequently). But we left it on their providers
DNS.

Today they are reporting a similar issue, supposedly affecting most
websites not loading completely. They feel our router is to blame, used
to work fine before etc. It's a mikrotik doing NAT to a single public IP,
with a few port forwards for remote access to the phone system. Nothing
crazy. I do have the office computers running through the port on the
grandstream IP phones, but not on a separate VLAN so the phone just acts
like a switch.

Their provider is not responsive to the issue, other offices in the
building using that provider are not having trouble.

Any suggestions or thoughts?
