Though SIAE has part101 6, 18 and 23 GHz radios which Mimosa doesn't make.
In a place where all the good 11 GHz is gone, those can be the only other
options.

Their 1024qam 6 GHz alfoplus2 radio is a great price competitor for much
higher priced 6 stuff like the trango apex orion.

They look like they're only slightly cheaper (if you get them from the
right place) than what I paid for my SIAE link a couple years back.
Although now that SIAE has resellers, they've gone up quite a bit. Mimosa
is probably what I'm going to use from here on out though...

I am with Chuck. If you have that kind of bandwidth needs than you have the
money and need for a license link. Ill use a license link on a 40 custmer
tower just so i dont have to ever worry about backhaul issues. My time is
valuable and i enjoy my sleep. :)

AF5X is a very good radio. First 5GHz Radio better than PTP600 imho. And it
takes only 10W compared to the 50W of a PTP600.
The SW is not as good. Every change gives a reboot.

Yes. Under very good conditions 1024 QAM is possible with AF5X. With Back2Back
Sync we’ve to play with power levels of the

remote sides to keep modulations up.

AF5X is a very good radio. First 5GHz Radio better than PTP600 imho. And it
takes only 10W compared to the 50W of a PTP600.

The SW is not as good. Every change gives a reboot.

Re: [AFMUG] AF 24 HD Real World Range?

2016-03-01 Thread Stefan Englhardt

Looking to save the 5ghz spectrum for our AP's, I am thinking of the AF24HD.
Has anyone installed a link that far? Does it work well? I don't need the full

Re: [AFMUG] AF 24 HD Real World Range?

2016-03-01 Thread Steve Utick
Yes, the 24 is 64QAM, and the HD is 256QAM.

the 24 will do 64QAM at -66, but the HD requires a -60 to do 256QAM.

Apologies, I had no idea the AF24HD was going for 6k a link, wow! Looking
back.. it does look like the AF24 is still 3k per link, which I for some
reason thought the AF24HD would be more cost competitive. Mimosa's links
are in a great spot... I think the promise was sometime this month.

Re: [AFMUG] AF 24 HD Real World Range?

2016-02-29 Thread Eric Kuhnke
Time to buy ETSI class 4 antennas and specify those in your coordination.
You may be able to do links that otherwise will not coordinate right if you
use more expensive gear with amazing (70db!) F/b ratio and tiny sidelobes.

Multi month lead times on Commscopr Sentinel 3' class 4 antenna right now.

I would consider such to be a worthwhile investment. If they don't get
crushed by ice or dropped off a tower while hosting, such antennas in the
cylindrical dual polarity waveguide version will still be very useful in 10
or 15 years.

Re: [AFMUG] AF 24 HD Real World Range?

2016-02-29 Thread Eric Kuhnke
The bigger Rx antenna on the AF24HD is helpful, but you're still severely
limited for link budget due to +0 maximum TX power and 24 GHz's atmospheric
behavior.

For $6k+ the price of an AF24HD, I would buy instead a set of SIAE
AlfoPlus2 1024QAM licensed radios in 11 or 18 GHz. At your distance with 3'
dishes it can be engineered for six nines of uptime statistically at
300Mbps full duplex.

Plus the one time part101 coordination/FCC fees of course. It's worth it.

haha ;)

But a B11 link really is what I'd be looking at doing in that situation.
Another possible option would be to do an AF3x link, that should be able to
do pretty close to 300 meg at 7 miles, it'll be about a third the price an
AF24HD, and it'll still save 5ghz spectrum.

We do an AF24HD at 4.5 miles right now. It’s linking at 64QAM and 770Mbps FD.
It does alright, except when there’s heavy rain. We’re in the desert so there
isn’t too much of that.

I even feel sketchy about 18ghz at 7 miles. That's at the cusp where

Looking to save the 5ghz spectrum for our AP's, I am thinking of the
AF24HD. Has anyone installed a link that far? Does it work well? I
don't need the full 2 gigs. More like 300 would be more than enough
for quite a while.

Re: [AFMUG] AF 24 HD Real World Range?

I would do licensed. 11 or 18 GHz. Then you save the spectrum and have
something that works all the time. That that much more money. If you are
maxing out APs then you have the customers to pay for the licensed BH.

More than 1.5 to maybe 2 miles at 24ghz is nuts.
...but it depends how much rain you get.

  Hey all,

I have a PTP 450 link at 6.937 miles that is working fine with 3 access

saturate the link in no time.

It might work, but it's going to drop everytime someone sneezes in the
general area.
