2017-06-17 Thread Faisal Imtiaz
Cable testing on a live / connected POE device such as Mimosa (GigeE + POE, and
multi-polarity circuit) would yield different results.

It is also possible that the results of the cable test have been tweaked in
different version of the firmware.

You have an interesting situation going one, obviously there is something off,
the question is what is it...
While you are at it, is it possible that you have a 'differential ground' issue
that is causing the ? or maybe something as simple as something goofy with the
ethernet connection / socket ?

Especially if the problem is worse when fiddling with the weather proofing
grommet ?

This has not been consistent. we have several that show no errors and a few
that show errors
>From my testing the result has been consistent - always the same result
I need to go troll on the netonix forums a bit, mr weekley, can you share the
links to any threads you may have started there?

i still think it is a cat-6 termination issue. Briefly when they finished
terminating the cat-6 a computer on the far end of the network
did a speed test close to 150 meg. Which watching the netonix immediately
after this (and the crew was still working), it flapped 3-4-5 times between 1
gig and no connection. I am told this is when the tech was reattaching the
weather gromet on the ethernet on the tower.

After that the connection started returning errors and the speed test won't
exceed 50 meg (this is where it was prior to moving to cat-6, with cat5).

To add to the conversation we have seem dramatic improvement on our mimosa
speeds (the ethernet speed is actually matching what the radio rf tests say
they can do) once we moved to cat-6 at a few other locations. We have 6 total
sites running mimosa. One leg barely moves 100 meg at peak times ; the new leg
(feeding a wisp we purchased) needs to move 200 meg at peak but is currently
doing 100-120 meg.

So, if testing under power you will show errors like we're seeing? One
test will be good and another will show "abnormal"?

At the moment it's two Mimosa radios at one tower and one radio at
another that have the issue. We replaced our Shireen Cat 5 with Shireen
Cat 6 and Shireen connectors and the link negotiation problem seems to
have gotten better but the Netonix still shows cable errors though a
standard cable tester shows continuity and correct pin out. I may
contact Netonix and see if they can give me a clue as to what problem
their unit is detecting.

We've had at least one situation with a bad port on a Netonix switch
that had symptoms similar to this.

We tried the Mimosa brick and it didn't help but that was prior to
trying Mimosa's suggestion of moving to Cat6 . We've tried locking
it to
100 meg full duplex and it held a connection but I am not sure if we
tried 1 gig half.

Here is what I would suggest.

1) Use the Mimosa Brick, for testing, and see if that fixes your
issue
if it does then consider, using a different port or 48VH
power etc to see if the
issue is on then netonix side.

if you still have the same issue with Mimosa Brick then you
know the problem is
  else ware.

BWT.. if you lock both sides (Radio & Netonix) to 100meg full
duplex or even 1G
half duplex do they hold the connection ?

radios

with Netonix for power? We've got a problem with gigabit link
negotiation issues where link will alternate between a gig and
no link.

We've upgraded to Cat 6 and are still seeing the issue.

We tried the Mimosa brick and it didn't help but that was prior to
trying Mimosa's suggestion of moving to Cat6 . We've tried locking it to
100 meg full duplex and it held a connection but I am not sure if we
tried 1 gig half.

Faisal Imtiaz wrote:

Here is what I would suggest.

1) Use the Mimosa Brick, for testing, and see if that fixes your issue
if it does then consider, using a different port or 48VH power etc to see
if the
issue is on then netonix side.

if you still have the same issue with Mimosa Brick then you know the
problem is
 else ware.

BWT.. if you lock both sides (Radio & Netonix) to 100meg full duplex or even 1G
half duplex do they hold the connection ?

Also, the Netonix cable diagnostics will show the cable as being good on
one test and then detect an abnormal termination on pair 7 and 8 then
5,6,7 and 8 and then good again.
