[yocto] [Yocto 9.0.2 over Overo/Beagleboard] screen utility not working as expected

2014-05-21 Thread Gaurav Chaturvedi

Hi,

I am using Yocto dylan 9.0.2 code to generate Ubuntu kernel and images
for Gumstix Overo/Beagleboard. Everything is working fine except the
utility screen that I am using to ssh to board, running an application
and logout.
This is what it is used for, but unfortunately it is not working that
way. The application also exits once I logout from the board/terminate
the ssh session.

I have tried different arguments of screen, but no use. Is anybody aware
of similar issue with screen utility with any kernel version.

I read on some forums and Yocto help pages about 2 versions of SSH:
Dropbear and OpenSSH. The Dropbear version seem to have this issue, but
not sure. I tried compiling OpenSSH from source and including that in
the filesystem on my Overo board, but the issue remains.

Any suggestion or information regarding this issue would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers
Gaurav

[Pdns-users] PowerDNS Monitoring and gathering Statistics

2010-11-25 Thread gaurav chaturvedi
Hey,

   I am running few PowerDNS Authoritative servers, and I was
wondering how do you keep an eye on performance of your dns servers.

Google gave me some solutions, but nothing satisfactory. I have been
testing DSC ( DNS Stats Collector ) , dnsmezzo and dns2db.
DSC is a real pain to configure and get going.
dnsmezzo is totally undocumented
and dns2db is very heavy on the server. (The collector itself has been
the cause of 80% iowait on the server)

  Currently I am using cacti + RRD + mrtg for a few graphs
(http://forums.cacti.net/about37716.html) . But I am looking for
something better.

Looking forward to some feeback.

 No - of course it shouldn't.
 The MIB parser wasn't written in the expectation of such a broken MIB,
 and really needs to be tightened up.

  I want to know some way that can report error on MIB and exit/write a
 log.

 The first step is to investigate what exactly is causing the parser to
 crash,
 and fix that. If you can provide a suitable patch, then we would be
 happy to
 include it in the code for future releases.

Dave), but should an erroneous value in MIB crash the application?

I want to know some way that can report error on MIB and exit/write a log.

  Please share your views on what may be the issue in this case.

 Well the obvious error in this MIB is in the TRAP-TYPE definition:

   EventMonitorTrap TRAP-TYPE
  ENTERPRISE EMC CLARiiON Advanced Storage Solutions
  VARIABLES   { .}
  DESCRIPTION

  ::= 2

 The ENTERPRISES clause is meant to contain the object identifier (name
 or numeric OID) of the defining enterprise. It's not an arbitrary string.
 See RFC1215, section 2.2.1 for a typical example.

 That's almost certainly the cause of the crash.
 There are some other errors as well
   (OBJECT-TYPE should probably be imported from RFC1212 rather than 1155,
TRAP-TYPE is not imported at all, and the EventMonitorTrap name is
invalid - it needs to start with a lower-case letter)
but I doubt those are likely to cause any real problems.

 It'll be the bogus enterprise value that's hitting you - try replacing
 it with 'clariion'
 and see if that works any better.

 No - of course it shouldn't.
 The MIB parser wasn't written in the expectation of such a broken MIB,
 and really needs to be tightened up.

 The first step is to investigate what exactly is causing the parser to

Re: SNMPv3 support in SNMP trap daemon software

2010-07-28 Thread Gaurav Chaturvedi
Hi,

As I said in my last post, i am able to get all things done correctly if I
have single session and I use single session APIs.

But for several SNMPv3 users, I need to create multiple sessions.

In this case, I am using function:

transport = netsnmp_tdomain_transport(port, 1, udp)

Here, port is same always = 162 (or anything entered by user)

But, it returns valid pointer only on 1st call. After that, it always
returns NULL, due to which I am not able to add further sessions using call
:

snmp_sess_add(session, transport, NULL, NULL)

Please help in this regard.

Thanks in advance.

 Are you talking about the value in the session structure?
 Or the value in the user database?

 In any case, you should be assigning a string of binary values,
 not a printable string. Try configuring the engineID within your
 application using the code I posted yesterday.

Re: SNMPv3 support in SNMP trap daemon software

2010-07-28 Thread Gaurav Chaturvedi
Hi Dave,

Actually, if I am using the same handle everytime, then while calling
connect, fd_set contains the same ID for 4 sessions and count=4 (e.g. for
4 sessions).

And the result is that: snmp_read doesn't return (till we receive 4
packets in this example) to call connect again.
I am assuming that this is the root cause of problem that if I am sending
SNMPv2 traps, the callback is called for the first time (because its session
is 1st in the session list) and then no action for next 3 times. Then again,
callback is called and no action for next 3 times and so on..

Please suggest.

Thanks

Re: SNMPv3 support in SNMP trap daemon software

2010-07-22 Thread Gaurav Chaturvedi
Hi Dave,

Thanks for your response so far.

Actually, the final problem is in comparing the engine-id received in UDP
packet with that in user database.

If I send engine-id using command:

snmptrap -e *0x0102030405* -v 3 -u administrator -a MD5 -A mypassword -l
authNoPriv -d localhost 42 coldStart.0

This is stored in u_char * engine_id as engine_id[0] = 0x01
engine_id[1] = 0x02
engine_id[2] = 0x03
engine_id[3] = 0x04
engine_id[4] = 0x05

and the length is *5*.

Whereas, the engine-id we store in user database is session.engineId =
0x0102030405 and length is 12.

Please let me know where I am going wrong. I think some conversion is
required.

Thanks in advance.

 But you should be able to print the individual byte values

 If you print these as decimal or hex values, that would give the

 we need.

 Also, if you include the following code in your trap receiver:

   netsnmp_ds_set_boolean(NETSNMP_DS_LIBRARY_ID,
   NETSNMP_DS_LIB_DUMP_PACKET, 1);

 this would display the raw packets as are received.
 This might also give some indication as to what is happening.

 If you go to the project web site (www.net-snmp.org), under the heading

 Thank you Gaurav, using the single session api I now have a separate
 pthread to handle the traps. Just in case anyone else tries this be warned
 that you must store the opaque session pointer returned from snmp_sess_add
 (or maybe pass it via the callback_magic field) as it is different to the
 one passed to the snmp_input callback routine of the session structure. In
 the snmp_input routine I was trying to use snmp_sess_send to send the INFORM
 reply message using the session pointer that was passed as an input
 parameter which caused a seg fault. After stepping through the code I could
 see that the opaque session pointer is acutally a struct session_list * as
 returned by snmp_sess_add_ex.

 PS does anyone know if there's a routine that takes an OID and returns the
 name/description from the MIB?

 Cheers,
 Martin.

SNMPv3 support in SNMP trap daemon software

code it correctly for v3 traps.

snmptd is able to receive the traps from agent, but the callback is not

called, I don't think I can proceed further.

Re: SNMPv3 support in SNMP trap daemon software

2010-07-20 Thread Gaurav Chaturvedi
Hi Dave,

Thanks for your response.

Following is my reply:

 I am developing a SNMP trap daemon (snmptd) using net-snmp library.

Is there any reason why you are not able to use the notification receiver
(snmptrapd) that's part of the existing Net-SNMP package?
  This already handled SNMPv3 notification correctly.

 I need to implement some other functioanlities along with trap receiver,
so I can't use existing snmptrapd.

--

 snmptd is able to receive the traps from agent

Are you talking about traps or inform requests?
   (Because the handling of these are different with SNMPv3)
Are you talking about noAuth, authNoPriv or authPriv requests?

Have you looked at the tutorial page
  http://www.net-snmp.org/wiki/index.php/TUT:snmptrap_SNMPv3
  which explains some of the issues involved.

 I need to provide support for authPriv SNMPv3 traps.

-

 but the callback is not called after receiving the trap.
 Someone, please suggest any code
 modification or something that I am missing.

My suspicion is that the library is receiving the raw packet
containing the request, but that the decoding is failing.
(particularly if noAuth works, but auth or priv doesn't)

Try sending traps using the command-line tool (snmptrap),
which should let you experiment with different options
very simply.
  Try turning on debug flags in the notification receiver,
so that you can see what's happening in the library.

And I'd strongly suggest that you consider using the existing
trap receiver (which works!), rather than trying to write your own.

 I have studied the tutorial and using the snmptrap exe to send traps.
But still the same problem. For v1 and v2, callback is called just after
snmp_sess_read (ss,fdset); statement, while for SNMPv3, callback is not
called. I used snmp_sess_error(fdset,liberr,snmperr,perrstring); and
got bad parse of ASN.1 type error in perrstring.
Please help.

Thanks
Gaurav

 OK - it looks as if there's something fundamentally wrong.

 How are you creating the SNMPv3 users within the trap receiver?

Hi Dave,

I am glad to say that I have atleast some clue about the issue (this might
help us to find root cause easily now).
I am debugging my software using the net-snmp library code. I am able to
find that there is a parse error in SNMPv3 trap i.e. function snmpv3_parse
returns -43 as failure status.

Can we find out the root cause now.

Any help will be appreciated.

Using the documentation, I am using the command:

snmpusm -v3 -u initial -n  -l authNoPriv -a MD5 -A mypassword localhost
create administrator initial

I have entered following enteries in ...\snmp\persist\snmpapp.conf:

rwuser initial

createUser initial MD5 mypassword DES

But the command is giving errors:

Please correct me where I am wrong. I think we are too close.

Re: Traps/Informs

2010-07-20 Thread Gaurav Chaturvedi
Hi Martin,

Please use the following code after your mentioned part of code.

You need to call snmp_sess_select_info, select and snmp_sess_read
after snmp_sess_read() function. These functions help in reading the data
from socket and call the callback function.

Also, there is no issue in using localhost in snmptrap/snmpinform commands.

if (transport = netsnmp_tdomain_transport(port, 1, udp)) {
ss = snmp_sess_add(session, transport, NULL, NULL);
}

while (1) {
numfds = 0;
FD_ZERO(fdset);
block = 1;/* note: will be set by snmp_sess_select_info */
tvp = timeout;

if (block) timerclear(tvp);

snmp_sess_select_info(ss,numfds, fdset, tvp, block);

if (block == 1) {
tvp = NULL;
}

count = select(numfds, fdset, 0, 0, tvp);

if (count  0) {
snmp_sess_read (ss,fdset);
} else

} /* End of while */

if (ss) {
snmp_sess_close(ss);
ss = NULL;
}

 snmp_sess_init
 with the following initialisation
 session_p-peername = SNMP_DEFAULT_PEERNAME;  /* Original code had

 session_p-version = SNMP_DEFAULT_VERSION;
 session_p-community_len = SNMP_DEFAULT_COMMUNITY_LEN;
 session_p-retries = SNMP_DEFAULT_RETRIES;

 session_p-callback = snmp_input;
 session_p-callback_magic = (void *) transport_trap_server_p;
 session_p-authenticator = NULL;
 session_p-isAuthoritative = SNMP_SESS_UNKNOWNAUTH;

 which sets up the callback snmp_input.
 then snmp_add to add the session to the opened transport server.

 In snmp_input I have a printf to make sure that the routine is getting
 called that will output the operation_id value.

 Then using snmptrap or snmpinform send the trap, e.g.
 snmpinform -v2c -c public localhost
 PO-RECTIFIER-TEST-MIB::alarmMajorHighBattVoltTrapPO PO-RECTIFIER-TEST-M
 IB::alarmMajorHighBattVoltPO.0 i 1
 snmpinform: Timeout

 with no success.

 Is it ok to use snmpinform/trap with localhost and will the code above
 receive the trap PDU on localhost?
 My application runs as a process that waits for commands to arrive over
 a socket so it will be blocked, would this cause problems?
 Any other ideas/things to try out?

 Many Thanks in advance,
 Martin.

[kde-doc-english] KGet documentation.

2009-12-16 Thread gaurav chaturvedi
Hi,
 I have finished writing down the documentation for KGet (the old
documentation was from kde3 days). I was told that a freeze is
implemented. And I should send my documentation here.

 I should have sent this a little while a go, but I was unwell.

 [P.S. :- I have been co-ordinating with the core devs and I am
sending this tar ball here after there approval (a major part of the
delay :p )  ]

Hopefully I am not too late.

Regards,
 Gaurav

Subject: Ubuntu 9.10 released
To: ubuntu-annou...@lists.ubuntu.com

The Ubuntu team is pleased to announce Ubuntu 9.10 Desktop and Server
editions, Ubuntu 9.10 Server for Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud (UEC) and Amazon's
EC2, and Ubuntu Netbook Remix, continuing Ubuntu's tradition of integrating
the latest and greatest open source technologies into a high-quality,
easy-to-use Linux distribution.

Read more about the features of Ubuntu 9.10 in the following press releases:

 Desktop edition    http://www.ubuntu.com/news/ubuntu-910
 Server edition     http://www.ubuntu.com/news/ubuntu-910-server-edition

Ubuntu 9.10 will be supported for 18 months on both desktops and servers.
Users requiring a longer support lifetime on the server may choose to
continue using Ubuntu 8.04 LTS, with security support until 2013, rather
than upgrading to 9.10.

Thanks to the efforts of the global translation community, Ubuntu is
available in 25 languages.  For a list of supported languages and detailed
translation statistics for these and other languages, see:

 https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Translations/ReleaseLanguages/9.10

Ubuntu 9.10 includes the first official release of Ubuntu Server images for
UEC and for Amazon's EC2, giving you everything you need for rapid
deployment of Ubuntu instances in a cloud computing environment. UEC images,
and information on running Ubuntu 9.10 on EC2, are available at:

 http://uec-images.ubuntu.com/releases/9.10/release

Ubuntu 9.10 is also the basis for new 9.10 releases of Kubuntu, Xubuntu,
Edubuntu, UbuntuStudio, and Mythbuntu:

2009-10-23 Thread gaurav chaturvedi
Hmm so seems to me like we have a few people interested in this.

Karmic is set to release on 29/10/2009 (next thursday)

What should be on the menu?
(If we are just meeting to to celebrate, then we can agree on a
hotel/pub but if we should plan a install fest/a few talks then we
will have to look for a more formal gathering place.)

Your views welcome. :)

Re: [ubuntu-in] Subscription with Official Email is Bad

2008-06-14 Thread gaurav chaturvedi
I agree with parthan on this issue subscribing to this mailing list
with official accounts is not a good thing.

But as this is a matter of etiquette and hence it should not be forced
into action. Just like you cant teach kids by forcing them to do
stuff. :)

It should be left upto those guys to re-subscribe with unofficial mail IDs

[LIG] Intel Wi-Fi Provides 6 Mbps Over 100 km

2008-03-19 Thread gaurav chaturvedi
MIT Technology Review describes a new Wi-Fi router from Intel capable
of sending a Wi-Fi signal tens of miles with 6-Mbps performance. This
is perfect for rural areas without Internet service, and for less
developed countries interested in building out their Internet
infrastructure but no means to lay expensive cable or fiber optics.
The routers cost about $500 each, and you need two of them for a
point-to-point connection. Quoting: Intel's RCP platform rewrites the
communication rules of Wi-Fi radios. Galinvosky explains that the
software creates specific time slots in which each of the two radios
listens and talks, so there's no extra data being sent confirming
transmissions. 'We're not taking up all the bandwidth waiting for
acknowledgments,' he says. Since there is an inherent trade-off
between the amount of available bandwidth and the distance that a
signal can travel, the more bandwidth is available, the farther a
signal can travel.

Re: [ubuntu-in] [Non-tech] Ubuntu IN T-shirts?

2008-01-12 Thread gaurav chaturvedi
 One of my friends would like to buy a Ubuntu-IN T-Shirt. Does anyone
 (currently residing in Mumbai) have a few to sell away?

IMO there is no ubuntu-in t-shirt.

 That'll in a way, advertise, FOSS.IN (if it is printed) and advertise
 Ubuntu among my college folks.

Why would Ubuntu-in want to just promote foss.in, what about the
other events? :-)

Or maybe i didnt get what you are trying to say :-P
