I tried that issue's first document with OO 3.1.1, but I saw immediately 18 footnotes. But even that I cannot confirm, that it is the identical bug, it is obviously at least related. Can you inform the other issue reporter about this issue ? In my case I get more footnotes, if I leave the footnote area, scroll along the text area to jump into the next footnote, and this time I get about 5 more footnotes displayed. It is not necessary to edit the text to get more footnotes displayed. If it is the case, that it is only reported on Mac's, it must be related to the window manager, that is unique for OO to the Mac ... - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. The very first impression is promising (regarding formatting). In the preferences it displays now a different (older ?) set of defined fonts. Trying again OO 3.2.1 I get still my desired set of fonts. Is there no common place to store the preferences (on Mac OS) ?!?? Anyway ... I set it to the desired list of fonts. ... Shit, this time OO330m3 has the desired list ... every time it does what IT wants ... not me ??!? Right now I saw again such a text piece, which I definitively didn't format like that. The last time I noticed such a situation, I checked and set my preference for the Writer application, Basic fonts to a single font. When I right now discovered, that a text piece got unformatted I had a look in the preferences ... and they had been changed by OO (not me !). I reformatted the unformatted text piece and finished some work for a few minutes. I now write this report and looking again at the preferences, font settings ... OO displays different font settings, the once I desire to have. This is pretty scary, because it means, that the preferences get changed not exclusively by the user, but by OO itself ! ... Sorry, no, I cannot send a document, which demonstrates it, but there should be only 1 or 2 places in the whole source code, which sets preferences ... have a look there ! - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I mean the footnotes (that is their text, not the number-reference in the main text above) are to be found at the bottom of the page ... The point is, that they might not be shown (all of them), even if you display that page, which should show them on it. It is somewhat a layouting matter to me ... I use the ODT format. With this release came up also another slight bug, which might be related to it: I maintain a long text document, a kind of list. Frequently I have to search in this list. It happens frequently, that OO finds the text, jump to it, but does not display the proper page with the hit, but instead 1-2 pages above it. I currently use 320m18. Unfortunately it is not reproducable, even worse it appears to happen randomly. I noticed, that it seems to happen - only with formatted text (bold, italic, superscript), - when saving the file and - reopening it (after having closed OO and shutdown the computer). I notice it, if I get to that spot after i.e. 2-3 days and I remember, that I recently formatted that text spot. What is really frightening is the fact, that it happens after loading a file, so that I need to assume, that the file contains a wrong formatting (when saving it) or it is lost (when loading) it, because this time I noticed, that the wrong-formatted text is unformatted. Therefore it is in my opinion a serious bug, because OO might loose information when saving (or loading). I noticed another observation. If you have long documents and you open it, it takes a few seconds for the last pages to get formatted (see maximum page count on the bottom left). In this release you need to wait much longer and it takes for each page to get formatted not about less than a second but several seconds. The worst: If you open the document and search for some text, which you know it exists, it will report, that it does not exist. You need to wait about 2-3 minutes for a 100 page document. That is why it is a serious bug as it misguides the user. If this is used for business, you might send out a contract without having changed prices or legal conditions, just because OO did not report that text in the footnote. BTW, this is a bug, which exists for years, but has never been really fixed. Now, it is really the time for it. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=94752 User iwtpoo changed the following: What|Old value |New value Status|CLOSED|UNCONFIRMED Resolution|WORKSFORME| --- Additional comments from iwt...@openoffice.org Wed Mar 4 18:29:15 + 2009 --- I still have this trouble quite often. I like to add, that it seems not to be buggy when closing a file or finally quitting OO, but already before. I noticed, that sometimes after loading many larger documents, it takes some time to be ready again, if I switch to another document (by opening the other window in OO, all documents are still loaded). If OS X shows me the colourful round ball, I have to wait. It seems, that it is this moment, that OO is buggy, because if this happens, after the next start of OO, the faulty recovery dialog appears. Please try to have a look at this again. PS: I returned from OO 3.01 to 3.00, because 3.01 is messy to work with ... Its quality reminds me of vendor ... ;-) - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Under 2.x this always appeared to work, reliable. With v3 RC3 today I suddenly got that screen despite quitting OO normally. What caught my attention especially, was, that the last text document in the last wasn't recovered. At the next start of OO this document was presented to be to need recovery. It seems the mechanism to recognise crashed documents, isn't OK any more (or those files don't get properly closed ... maybe). This included a single .txt file, but I canceled the loading in the UTF, etc. loading dialog (being about the 25th file in the list). In the 'Windows' top menu the bottom files did not fit any more. Let's say I want to display the 28th document in the list, in fact it shows me the 27th. The top ones work fine. It seems the internal file list is still the one of the open dialog, but not the list of really loaded documents. By the way ... when closing some files, OO finally crashed badly. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. The situation is still the same. But the rendering looks really well. Congratulations ! But I still found two rendering errors. See attached document. In 2.4.1 it loads even 5 copies very fast. For 3 beta 2 the effect starts when loading a 2nd document, which is already significantly slower. When loading 5 copies concurrently the effect is the same, so it is already to be noticed, when the 2nd document is loaded, so that 2 documents are open at the same time. AppleSpell.Service process wasn't active on my test machine. This isn't acceptable, because we fall back into this behaviour we saw in much earlier releases of OO. This effect is much more dramatic, when SpellChecking is still active: - v2.4.1 (X) takes ca. 3 minutes - v3 beta2 (Aqua) takes about 10 minutes - v3 beta2 (Aqua) with spell checking took almost 30 minutes, while AppleSpell.service process demands most of the time ca. 40% of CPU power If this can't be fixed, I won't change to v3 ... [sw-issues] [Issue 61616] find dialog does not have connection to document
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=61616 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed Jan 2 17:07:14 + 2008 --- Thanks for asking ! I have used v2.3.0 for some time and still experience this problem once in a while. I mostly avoid it by placing the find dialog into the most right corner, so that the 3 (Windows) window icons (to maximize, minimize, close) are covered by it. But rarely it still happens. It is the biggest bug I experience for a long time with OO. But since I use newer releases, the impact isn't so devastating. Usually, if I close the window (associated to a text file), to which that find dialog is associated, the find dialog also disappears. I download v2.3.1 now and will see, if there is a change, but I do not expect it, because the release notes did not seem to mention, that they change that. On weekends it happens, that I edit and frequently save documents for hours (without quiting OO). Sometimes OO completely crashes, but recovers the documents when OO is restarted. To me it looks very much, that this happens, because OO requests more RAM from Windows, but somewhat it fails. Does Windows (not OO) cause this crash ?!? Sometimes, when I recovered the documents and tried to continue with my work, very soon the crash happens again. Therefore, after recovering the documents, I always close them, quit OO, start OO again and reload all documents again. Than it might again take a few hours to happen again. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. It does not always happen, but too often ... The key is, that the MS Windows window, in which an OO document runs, does not have the standard (for example) dark blue bar on top (that shows: this windows is the top most in the foreground), but it is only a light blue bar, which means: if you try to active something from its menue's via keyboard, it wouldn't/shouldn't work. This appears to be the key for the error. So, to reproduce the error, try: 1. a lot of times, 2. try to use other programmes, while it takes minutes to load all the documents into OO. Try to reproduce the error for a document having a 'light blue' bar on top. Thanks for your efforts !!! - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I already reported this 2-3 weeks ago via the error report agent. Now I can add, that I believe I can say, when exactly this error is caused. What do I do ? I load quite a number of documents to go through them for a search and replace. So I leave the PC alone with loading all the documents. Then I do for each document: 1. find (do my replacements), 2. close the document. What happens ? For whatever reason sometimes the (nex) document (after closing the previous one) does not show in the foreground, that is, when the top bar of the (document) window is not dark blue, but only light blue. To get this in the foreground, you do a Alt-Tab. If I don't notice it and I call find, than the find (search) dialog does not have the connection to the document, but I cannot close it any more ... That's really troublesome and sometimes it causes OO to crash. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=28346 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thu Oct 20 11:44:03 -0700 2005 --- Unfortunately I experienced this problem in the new OO v2.0 release. I used v1.14 before and wanted to convert now to the new ODT format in OO v2.0. If my filename is '1. dictionary.sxw', the automatic file name extension (?) turns it into 1.odt. So this has become now really an issue ... I expect many to experience it, because many will use spaces in their filenames.
