 With the gmail one there so I can test it is working, unfortunately

You need to set the log level to 5 for amavis-stats to work properly,
and that would make your mail log really really messy. So rather let
amavis log to a separate logfile. That's what I do on all my mail
servers.

I log to a separate file and have the level set to 2 and I get good
results.

mustangrestomods:~ root# grep -n -H -e log_level /etc/amavisd.conf
/etc/amavisd.conf:304:$log_level = 2; # (defaults to 0)
/etc/amavisd.conf:307:# $log_level=0) (take care to properly quote
Perl special characters like '\')

/etc/amavisd.conf:2053:#   log_level = 3,
/etc/amavisd.conf:2093:#   log_level = 3,
mustangrestomods:~ root#

as well, set the following in amavisd.conf

/etc/amavisd.conf.good:192:@local_domains_maps = (1);  # $mydomain
and its subdomains

You're line numbers may differ.

Hi,

after playing around all morning I got results in the shape of rrd

the 127 but a 1). I am using rrdtool-1.2.12 and amavis-stats 0.1.21.

Another question. What do you suggest to do about the permissions.

Senmail creates logfiles with root:mail amavis runs as amavis and
is member of the group mail. apache runs as nobody (and I can't
possibly add nobody to the group mail). If I create the rrd files

Consider logging amavisd-new to a seperate file instead of sysloging
to the mail log.

If the amavis-stats daemon is running as the apache user, it should
have read access to the amavisd-new or mail log files, this should
resolve the permission issue.

Thanks,

Now I see what amavis-stats is looking for and what my problem is.
I have a relay server here which checks all incoming mail and uses
the postfix transport table to send the mails to the approriate

So for Amavis all mail seems to be local
(agent-j is my relay server):

So for my setup amavis-stats can not do what I expected.

This is incorrect thinking, it certainly can do what you want but
requires a little work form you.

Have the other server(s) log mail via syslog to this server and you
will have exactly what you want.

I can see no errors in the log. I tried debug mode, no hints.
The domain1.de subfolder includes the same files like mentioned in
the original post,

but no rrd files were created.

domain1.de is a domain I relay mail for.
If I grep /var/log/mail for lines with domain1.de and amavis
manually, I get
several hundred hits but it seems to me that amavis-stats doesn't
see them.

It sees the lines as recorded in the logs otherwise it wouldn't graph
any data.

Joe,
	As I understand it, the domain feature in amavis-statis only works
for to segregate the traffic based on which syslog server sent it.
That is to say, if you have one mailserver with many domains, it's
not going to create graphs per domain. However, if you had 3
mailservers each with their own domain all sending syslog back to
the machine running amavis-stats, then you could see all 3 graphs.
	I wish it worked the way that you want. I, too, have many domains
on this server and many relay domains, I'd like to be able to see
stats for each of them, but I don't think that's how it works today.

Not entirely try, I've successfully graphed multi domains from a
single server using multiple instances of amavisd-new and this will
be changing in the near future as amavisd-new progresses.

I think this is a known bug/issue in Net::Server 0.88. A

to start Amavisd with the correct user in the startup-script, or to

[AMaViS-user] MySQL changes in amavisd-new from 2.2.0 to 2.3.3

2006-01-22 Thread Dale Walsh
Well, I'm trying to get some modification to work in 2.3.3 so I'm
hoping someone familiar with amavisd-new and MySQL can assist.

MySQL is not one of my strong points and I didn't do the original
patches and the person who did isn't around to assist anymore.

This is what I know

original 2.2.0:
$sql_select_white_black_list =
  'SELECT wb FROM wblist,mailaddr'
  . ' WHERE (wblist.rid=?) AND (wblist.sid=mailaddr.id)'
  . '   AND (mailaddr.email IN (%k))'
  . ' ORDER BY mailaddr.priority DESC';

modified 2.2.0:
$sql_select_white_black_list =
  'SELECT wblist.wb FROM wblist,mailaddr,users'
  . ' WHERE (users.id=?)'
  . ' AND (wblist.rid=users.amavisd_user_id)'
  . ' AND (wblist.sid=mailaddr.id)'
  . ' AND (mailaddr.email IN (%k))'
  . ' ORDER BY mailaddr.priority DESC';

In 2.3.3 the changes are different as shown from the original 2.2.0
so I guessed at it but it didn't work so I was wondering if someone
could offer some help.

original 2.3.3:
$sql_select_white_black_list =
  'SELECT wb FROM wblist LEFT JOIN mailaddr ON wblist.sid=mailaddr.id'.
  ' WHERE (wblist.rid=?)'
 . ' AND (mailaddr.email IN (%k))'.
  ' ORDER BY mailaddr.priority DESC';

modified 2.3.3: (guessed)
$sql_select_white_black_list =
  'SELECT wblist.wb FROM wblist LEFT JOIN mailaddr ON
wblist.sid=mailaddr.id'.

  . ' WHERE (users.id=?)'
  . ' AND (wblist.rid=users.amavisd_user_id)'
  . ' AND (wblist.sid=mailaddr.id)'
  . ' AND (mailaddr.email IN (%k))'
  . ' ORDER BY mailaddr.priority DESC';

I did a little hunting around and found some general coding errors
that can cause this and couldn't find anything similar in amavis-

the problem there.

Can someome tell me how to fix this problem? The alternative I have
is to comment out the offending lines, but this disables what
appears to be some no-cache directives in the original php code
which I'd like to keep if possible.

I see a small error in my logic where I don't test for the existence
of virus data before calling rrd_graph, I'll correct this and have a
solution soon but seeing as how you now have virus data you wont be
experiencing this problem anymore.

Thanks Dale. Some time after I posted the e-mail I continued testing
by sending through bogus e-mails, thus generating the required data
and the errors went away.

Although I didn't post the url, I suppose it was easy enough
to guess!

from the URL I can see how you installed it and where all of the
files used for it are on your drive, this aids in debugging.

One problem that remains which I'm still trying to track down though
is that banned files are counted twice per e-mail. As a guess I think
the amavis-stats code counts the number of 'BLOCKED Banned'
instances it finds, as when I run a grep on the amavis log file I find
2 instances of this tag for each banned file e-mail it comes across.
There also appears to be a unique processing ID (I think) that amavisd
adds to each line in the log as it processes an e-mail which I can see
has the same ID for each Banned instance found so I know it's for the
same e-mail. I'm running amavisd-new v2.2.0 with a log level of 2 so
will look into tweaking it to see if I can remove the 2nd instance of
this appearing, although I like seeing the additional info that
loglevel 2

gives, which helps when I very occasionally troubleshoot scoring.

I don't believe the log_level is the issue since I've run it using
log level 5 and it doesn't get confused.

mustangrestomods:/SourceCache root# cat /etc/amavisd.conf|grep
log_level =

$log_level = 2;   # (defaults to 0)
mustangrestomods:/SourceCache root#

The version of amavisd I'm using is actually the Maia Mailgaurd
modified version so maybe that is playing a part in this somewhere..

This might have something to do with it however, amavis-stats checks
the processing ID to ensure that it's not counted more than once so I
can't see how this could be a problem.

Also looking at the page, I'm not sure it's really counting the same
processing ID twice but since I'm not sure what affect the maia mods
have on it, it may just be a re-injection that your seeing because
the function that catches Blocked BANNED also catches Blocked
INFECTED and it only caught this once.

Hi Dale

Like I already wrote you before, this really seems to BE a problem,
I'm running at 3. But it doesn't come up in lower levels (at least
not in 0).

I've upped the log level to 5 on 4 different version of darwin/
amavisd-new and I'm not experiencing any problems with double counting.

I have darwin 7.9 using amavisd-new-2.2.0 unmodified and darwin 7.9
using amavisd-new-2.2.0 modified with the advanced header patch and
then darwin 8.4 using amavisd-new 2.3.3 unmodified and then darwin
8.4 using amavisd-new 2.3.3 using the advanced header patch.

It might be the maia modification made to the amavisd-new app that
are causing the problems because I've been unable to duplicate it
using a standard amavisd-new or amavisd-new with the advanced header
patch.

I've wrapped amavisd-new up in a configure/Makefile package that will
build, configure amavisd-new and include options to build amavis-
milter, apply the advanced header patch if you want it and applying
an OS specific patch and includes OS specific startup items all in
one shot making installation easier requiring less user edits to get
amavisd-new up and running.

I've tested the install method on a couple of different OS's besides
darwin and have installed amavis-stats on redhat using my amavisd-new
install package and it doesn't experience any double counting so all
I can conclude is it has to be some patch that is applied to amavisd-
new that is causing the problem.

Here is a problematic snip:

BTW: There's a bug in the statistics if one uses a debug level
greater than 0
For some viruses it then happens that it gets reported twice. once
as VIRUS and once as BANNED
That happens because amavisd-new spits out some intermediate
results in debug levels 1 and more.

[AMaViS-user] Are there any C programmers on this list who may have some available time?

2005-12-28 Thread Dale Walsh
I'm in the midst of rewriting some PHP code for an amavisd-new
utility and I'm looking for people who have some time they could
devote to converting some small code to C.

I've delegated the majority / bulk of the work to myself but have a
half dozen more small routines to convert and was wondering if I
could obtain some assistance with them.

All interested parties please respond off list.

Re: [AMaViS-user] amavis-stats-0.1.19 (manual log processing)

2005-12-17 Thread Dale Walsh
Not at this time, you can run the daemon from the command line, and
quit it after it has run (it runs at 0...5..10..15..55 of the
hour so you may have to wait for it to execute).

It doesn't use much memory so leaving the daemon running shouldn't be
a problem.

I'm considering some tools to do maintenance and what not but
probably wont have anything concrete until I've completed the
conversion to C.

The php script conversion to C is almost complete and aside from
that, converting the daemon perl script to C is a first for me so if
anyone has experience in area I'd appreciate the assistance.

If I could get the per script converted to source I could then go
about removing the module dependancies.

My understanding of the conversion is that the modules must be
separated to individual '.pm' files before conversion.

so this:
mustangrestomods:/temp2/amavis-stats-0.1.20 root# cat $(which amavis-
stats) | grep ^package

package AmavisStats::Boot;
package AmavisStats::Conf;
package AmavisStats::Daemonize;
package AmavisStats::Lock;
package AmavisStats::Log;
package AmavisStats::Util;
package AmavisStats;
mustangrestomods:/temp2/amavis-stats-0.1.20 root#

would turn into:
AmavisStats.pm
AmavisStats/Boot.pm
AmavisStats/Conf.pm
AmavisStats/Daemonize.pm
AmavisStats/Lock.pm
AmavisStats/Log.pm
AmavisStats/Util.pm

before the actual conversion which should be fairly easy to achieve.

It appears so.
The yearly appears only to get graphed at 1am and the monthly

If you had a previous install of amavis-stats and graphing data was
available then the new install will pick up hwere the old version
left off provided that the localstatedir points to the same location.

if the old install had the .rrd files in /var/lib/amavis-stats then
the new should have been configured with '--localstatedir=/var'
otherwise it has no previous data to graph from.

But I'd prefer an empty graph over this message too.. especially
now that not so many viruses are getting in an empty graph in the

The problem is that with the newer versions of rrdtool, graphs are
not generated if no data is available and would result in an image
place-holder in the page with no image and an error in the httpd log
that the image doesn't exist resulting in a 404 error.

No, it isn't.
Only wwwrun is there.
If www would exist make would not complain about

You state that configure finds user www in /etc/passwd, if the user
is not there then it shouldn't find it.

I set a default user (www) if this is not the user your web server

OK, that's clear, but the problem was:
configure seems to find that user even if doesn't exist.

do:

Yes, I see now, a regular grep, needs refinement, I'm extremely busy

My webuser is wwwrun which is the default for SuSE for a long time.
So asking for www with grep that way will give a positive result.

Alternately you can just change the group to wwwrun's group and it

command line option in 0.1.19 to configure for non standard mail logs
(/var log/mail in my case). This option is still missing.

do
./configure

when it's done edit configure.in and change:
scan_log_file=/var/log/amavis.log

to:
AC_ARG_WITH(log-file,
[  --with-log-filelogfile to read (default=/var/log/amavis.log)],
scan_log_file=$withval, scan_log_file=/var/log/amavis.log)

save it.

issue:
make clean

./configure --help

Optional Features:
  --disable-FEATURE do not include FEATURE (same as --enable-
FEATURE=no)

  --enable-FEATURE[=ARG]  include FEATURE [ARG=yes]
  --enable-id-check use id utility instead of /etc/passwd parsing
  --enable-yp-check use ypmatch utility instead of /etc/passwd
parsing
  --enable-netinfo-check use netinfo utility instead of /etc/passwd
parsing

  --disable-startup   disable startup item
  --disable-web disable test for web user/group
  --disable-dependency-tracking  speeds up one-time build
  --enable-dependency-tracking do not reject slow dependency
extractors

Optional Packages:
  --with-PACKAGE[=ARG]use PACKAGE [ARG=yes]
  --without-PACKAGE do not use PACKAGE (same as --with-
PACKAGE=no)

  --with-log-file logfile to read (default=/var/log/amavis.log)
  --with-user=uid name of the web user (default=www)
  --with-group=gidname of the web group (default=www)

that should take care of the problem.

Thanks

Joe

I'm running debian with spamassassin, clamav, and amavisd-new. The
rrdtool is also installed.

The logfile is the amavis-new log you want to have statistics from.
Default is /var/log/amavis.log

No such file on my machine.

Edit the daemon config file (amavis-stats.conf) and change this to
the log file you want to use.

If you want to change this you have to fiddle around a bit.
The name of the used log can be found in the makefile(s).

I didn't compile amavis-stats from source, but installed the .deb.

If the person who made the package did it correctly, 'man amavis-
stats' will list the location of the installed files.

up the web interface.

I realize that I just added the auto cron create/delete routines but
since some platforms were having issues with the cron jobs I decided
to go a different route.

It's configurable and customizable, I currently include startup items
for Darwin 7.x and 8.x (Mac OSX 10.3.x and 10.4.x), if you create
something for your platform, please pass it along so it can be
integrated into the build process making it easier for others.

Also, please examine the 'TODO' file, perhaps you can contribute in

The issue you are experiencing is not related to your OS and most of
the issues you are experiencing is based on poor coding.

With a little effort, you can build everything (rrdtool) and use it
directly from PHP without any problems.

Examine the following page:
http://www.daleenterprise.com/info.php
http://www.daleenterprise.com/amavis-stats

That particular version of amavis-stats isn't available because of
the additional enhancements I've made but I can give you a copy and
yes it works in FreeBSD and supports multiple hosts.

The code to get it working in PHP is included with rrdtool but it
doesn't work very well so I rewrote most of it so it would work
properly and I have it running on Mac OS X and FreeBSD with the same
code so I know what I have works.

[amavisd-new 2.3.1-rc3]

I've got the following entires and I'm wondering what it's about
because I only see them on one server and it occurs immediately
following the completion of each scanned e-mail.

Entries in question: Jun 15 15:50:12 uawebhost.com /usr/bin/amavisd

You need to add 10.1.100.11 to @inet_acl to allow access
to amavisd from this IP address, e.g.:

  @inet_acl = qw(127.0.0.1 10.1.100.11);

While I see mentioned on the list that some are using two instances
of amavisd-new, is it possible that amavisd-new can be defined to run
on 2 pairs of ports in a single config file?

Yes.

What I am getting at is the following:

10024,10025 and 10026,10027

If received on port 10024, send on port 10025 if recieved on port
10026, send on port 10027

$inet_socket_port = [10024,10026];
$forward_method = 'smtp:*:*';
$notify_method = 'smtp:*:*';

See comments in amavisd.conf-sample.

If you want, you can now assign a separate policy bank
to port 10024 or 10026 if you need different settings,
but need not if both services can do with same settings.

or can this only be achieved by using two
separate config files?

No need. Your setup is pretty much straightforward.

  Mark

Well Mark, I tried using your recommended settings, it still doesn't
work.
