[amsat-bb] LituanicaSAT-1 status update

2014-07-27 Thread Vytenis Buzas
Dear friends, FM transponder is OFF, it's mission is completed, thank you
for all the good responses. Based on this there will be more projects in
the future making benefit for HAM people of the World.

Currently only telemetry packets are to transmit data every 15 seconds.
On-board temperature is rising and the altitude is being lost quickly
therefore some peculiarities due to changing thermal environment can occur.

Would appreciate any of your reports tracking last orbits of LituanicaSAT-1.

Thank you for all of your support!

Vytenis B.

[amsat-bb] Lituanicasat-1 not heard

2014-07-25 Thread john
Lituanicasat-1 was not heard on the 1245utc pass over the SW
United States. It was on for that pass yesterday and N5HYP was
worked from DM43. The current keps had it at 234KM.

Re: [amsat-bb] Lituanicasat-1 Working Well

2014-07-06 Thread Erich Eichmann

Hi Ted,
Add the following line to Doppler.SQF somewhere in the data section (use
paste and copy):

LO-78,435175.5,145950,FM,FM,NOR,0,0

I don't know whether the frequencies are exact. To check that (while the
sat is in range) click the SatPC32 control V to V+, then open menu
CAT and with the Downl. Corr. controls correct the downlink
frequency and save the found value in Doppler.SQF.

You may also add the following line to AmsatNames.SQF:
39569 98067EN LO-78

Then the program will display LITUANICASAT-1 as LO-78 if you use a Keps
file that still uses LITUANICASAT-1 as satellite name, for example the
Celestrak file cubesat.txt.

Both files can be opened and edited from the SatPC32 menu ?,
Auxiliary Fies.
For detailed instructions read the FAQs file (sect. 1a) with a tutorial
by Wayne Estes, W9AE.

Lituanicasat-1 was on for the 1755utc pass over Ohio today. N1PCE
was the only station heard and worked. It's at 310km now so it won't
be up for much longer. Work it while you can.

The next pass starts for EN91 at 1928utc and goes through the middle
of the US. The footprint is not very big but if you are in it, you'll be
able to work it. It fades as it spins but the rate is fairly fast so you
can easily make qso's on it.

Make sure you have the latest keps as they are changing rapidly as the
bird slows down.

Re: [amsat-bb] Lituanicasat-1 Working Well

2014-07-05 Thread George Henry
You need to enter the up- and downlink frequencies and mode into the
Doppler.SQF file, which you can edit by clicking the ? on the menu bar,
and then Auxiliary Files. Note that the satellite name in the doppler
file must exactly match the satellite name in the keps. You must also enter
the subtone info into the SubTone.SQF file. Again, the satellite name must
match. (You can just copy the data from the first entry for SO-50).

Dear radio amateurs,

The LituanicaSAT-1 transponder is currently on and should remain so.
General rule to find out if the transponder is working at the moment is
following: if you can hear CW FM beacon on 437.275 MHz it means that
transponder is off, if you cannot hear it - transponder is on.

[amsat-bb] LituanicaSAT-1 update

2014-06-05 Thread Laurynas Mačiulis
Dear amateur radio operators,

Apparently the satellite had not reset as was scheduled on June 5, 0100z
and the transponder remained on for the rest of today. After today's pass
over Lithuania we left the transponder working again and put the satellite
to safe mode (no telemetry) to save some power for transponder operations,
so please enjoy and use it. Next update in 24 h.

Re: [amsat-bb] LituanicaSAT-1 FM Transponder Report 04-Jun-2014 UTC

2014-06-04 Thread Laurynas Mačiulis
Dear radio amateurs,

A courtesy notice that LituanicaSAT-1 transponder will be operative until
June 5, 0100z. At about this time period a scheduled reset should occur and
both CW FM beacon on 437.275 MHz and 9k6 baud telemetry on 437.545 MHz
should be heard. We encourage you to send reports to find out how reduction
in sunlight will affect satellites power budget. Next update and
transponder operating schedule will be issued in 24h.

I had to try the last pass before that moment in JO22nc (and the first pass
in a while at a usable time for me). Heard at least two QSOs but couldn't
really make out the call signs. Tried CQ two times but no response (and I
was probably double with some other user one time).

Sofar I never managed to even hear this sat so this is an improvement. I
hope there will be further chances of using it.

(minutes before that one ARTSAT1 was scheduled to pass but heard nothing)

Re: [amsat-bb] LituanicaSAT-1 FM Transponder Report 04-Jun-2014 UTC

2014-06-03 Thread Patrick STODDARD (WD9EWK/VA7EWK)
Hi Paul!

I was on the pass that started out here at 0202 UTC, and
worked W0DHB in Colorado followed by N5ZNL in Mississippi
before the satellite went behind the mountains to the east
of the Phoenix area. I was in my back yard, using an Icom
IC-2820H at 15W into an Elk log periodic, using narrow FM
on the uplink. I did not hear you or KK4VAU come on the
transponder. This was a pass from the south to the east,
with maximum elevation for my location (DM43bn) of 13
degrees.

This satellite seems like a cross between SO-67 and what
the ISS cross-band repeater was like, the few times it
was in a V/U configuration instead of the more common
U/V configuration. I had to wait for the repeater's
squelch tail to drop before I could hear myself through
the transponder, and - with the lower orbit - adjusting
for Doppler is very important. Narrow FM is a must, and
I was able to deal with the 5 kHz tuning steps on the
IC-2820H when trying to talk through the transponder.

I plan on trying the next pass, which should start around
0336-0337 UTC. This will come up from my west and wrap
around to the north, going up to a maximum elevation of
29 degrees. Meanwhile, time to make a request (or make
another request) of the ARRL to add this satellite to the
LOTW system.

Re: [amsat-bb] LituanicaSAT-1 Transponder Off

2014-06-02 Thread Greg D
CW Telemetry beacon, as decoded by FLDIGI here in CM98 on the 6/2 0600z
pass. My rotor controller doesn't do flipped operation, so the 3rd
frame got trashed by the rotor needing to swing around as the satellite
passed through North. Some errors in the frames, but for the most part,
during the frame itself, the signal was full quieting. It seemed like
the very front of the frame (call sign?) was at a low power setting,
then jumped up for the main part, and then at the end a few dits,
seconds apart, at low power.

This was my second attempt (first success) at copying the beacon. Hope
this helps,

[amsat-bb] LituanicaSAT-1 update

2014-05-19 Thread M5AKA
From the LituanicaSAT-1 Facebook page:
Most probably spontaneous reboot was caused by
Watchdog timeout due to accidental radio interference on I2C bus.
Currently everything seems fine, batteries are charging. Next
transponder test in a couple of days, thank you for your support!

[amsat-bb] LITUANICASAT-1 experience

2014-05-17 Thread Tom schuessler
I tried the satellite four times today, the 17th, and wish I had used my cheap
Chinese radio that has narrowband FM transmitter capabilities. From what I
understand the the satellite losing the signal due to over deviation makes a
lot of sense. Was able to trigger the ID on all the passes I tried with no
sound from me but no Qs. I guess we all need to talk softly. Hope we have a
few more chances to use this bird before it's orbit decays.

[amsat-bb] LituanicaSAT-1 reboot test - reports requested

2014-05-07 Thread M5AKA
From the LituanicaSAT-1 team. 73 Trevor M5AKA

Dear radio amateurs,

I would like to notify that after a one month of uninterrupted and stable
operation of LituanicaSAT-1 we have decided to perform watchdog operational
test. As a consequence the satellite should have rebooted today at about midday
European time and both CW FM beacon on 437.275 MHz and FSK packet telemetry on
437.544 MHz should be on at least until tomorrow 8:00 UTC. We yet have no
confirmation about that and would be grateful for any of your reports.

[amsat-bb] Lituanicasat-1 Beacon Heard

2014-05-07 Thread B J
I listened to the signal on CW between 1957 and 1959 today here in
DO33. It was somewhat fainter than the previous pass with some more
background noise.

Towards the end of the window, I switched over to FM and heard it for
a few seconds as well before I lost the signal behind my apartment
building.

The signal faded once in a while, though that might have been because
I was tuning my FT-817 manually and may not have kept up with the
Doppler shift.

[amsat-bb] LituanicaSat-1 transponder remains on

2014-05-01 Thread Ken Swaggart
Received an email from the LituanicaSat-1 control ops that transponder
remains on today and we're welcome to use it.

During a late morning west coast pass I was able to access the transponder
using the 67 Hz PL and the downlink sounded very good using Yagis, with some
slow QSB probably due to tumbling. It seems to have a very good receiver
and only a few Watts were required to achieve full quieting.

[amsat-bb] LituanicaSAT-1 FM Transponder - Possible NA Activity

2014-04-30 Thread Paul Stoetzer
Good morning,

According to the latest update from the LituanicaSAT-1 team posted on the
AMSAT-UK website this morning (
http://amsat-uk.org/2014/04/30/lituanicasat-1-fm-transponder-active-may-1/),
the LituanicaSAT-1 FM transponder will be active from 0930Z-1400Z tomorrow.

That window includes three passes over North America at around 0940Z,
1115Z, and 1245Z (if I've got the TLEs right - Object 39569, I believe)

The uplink is 145.950 MHz, PL 67.0 Hz and downlink is 435.180 MHz.
