[android-beginners] TableLayout will not draw new row addition

2010-01-17 Thread MCON Dev
I have TableLayout defined in the main.xml. Simple, 1 header row and 1 data
row.
TableLayout android:id=@+id/*reportsTable*
android:layout_width=fill_parent
android:layout_height=wrap_content
TableRow
TextView android:id=@+id/DateOfReport
android:text=Report Date
android:textSize=14px
android:layout_width=wrap_content
android:layout_height=wrap_content /
TextView android:id=@+id/HeightHeading
android:text=Height
android:textSize=14px
android:layout_width=wrap_content
android:layout_height=wrap_content /
TextView android:id=@+id/WeightHeading
android:text=Weight
android:textSize=14px
android:layout_width=wrap_content
android:layout_height=wrap_content /
/TableRow
TableRow android:id=@+id/r1
android:layout_width=wrap_content
android:layout_height=wrap_content
LinearLayout android:orientation=horizontal
android:layout_width=fill_parent
android:layout_height=wrap_content
EditText android:id=@+id/dateOfReport
android:text=DD/MM/
android:textSize=11px
android:layout_width=wrap_content
android:layout_height=wrap_content /
Button android:id=@+id/changeReportDate
android:text=...
android.textSize=12px
android:layout_width=wrap_content
android:layout_height=wrap_content /
/LinearLayout
EditText android:id=@+id/height
android:text=inCmOrInch
android:textSize=11px
android:layout_width=wrap_content
android:layout_height=wrap_content /
EditText android:id=@+id/weight
android:text=inKgOrPound
android:textSize=11px
android:layout_width=wrap_content
android:layout_height=wrap_content /
/TableRow

Now in the code I have a function defined that adds a new row.

private TableRow createNewTableRow(TableRow newRow){
newRow.setLayoutParams(new
LayoutParams(LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT,LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT)) ;
LinearLayout newLinearLayout = new LinearLayout(appActivity) ;
newLinearLayout.setOrientation(LinearLayout.HORIZONTAL);
newLinearLayout.setLayoutParams(new
LayoutParams(LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT,LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT)) ;
EditText newReportDate = new EditText(appActivity) ;
newReportDate.setTextSize((float) 11.0);
newReportDate.setLayoutParams(new
LayoutParams(LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT,LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT)) ;
Button changeReportDate = new Button(appActivity) ;
changeReportDate.setTextSize((float) 12.0);
changeReportDate.setLayoutParams(new
LayoutParams(LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT,LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT)) ;
changeReportDate.setText(...);
EditText newHeight = new EditText(appActivity) ;
newHeight.setTextSize((float) 11.0);
newHeight.setLayoutParams(new
LayoutParams(LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT,LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT)) ;
EditText newWeight = new EditText(appActivity) ;
newWeight.setTextSize((float) 11.0);
newWeight.setLayoutParams(new
LayoutParams(LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT,LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT)) ;

newRow.addView(newLinearLayout);
newLinearLayout.addView(newReportDate);
newLinearLayout.addView(changeReportDate);
newRow.addView(newHeight);
newRow.addView(newWeight);
return newRow ;
}

Now, in the main code I call this function

if (v == (View) *addReportWidget*) {
TableRow newRow = new TableRow(appActivity, null);
*reportsTableWidget*.addView(createNewTableRow(newRow));
reportsTab.invalidate();
}

Now, the new row just wont show up. If I run the code in the debugger, and
watch *reportsTableWidget*.mChildren, everytime I click on *addReportWidget*,
a new entry shows up in the debugger watch variables.

What am I missing. Very frustating, please advice me.

Siddharth

I can't say for sure just looking at the code. However, you may want to run
the hierarchy viewer tool (part of the SDK in the tools directory) and see
if you can tell where your new row lands in the view hierarchy.

[android-beginners] Drawing lines/shapes with Canvas that glow

2010-01-17 Thread IcedDante
I am working on a 2d interface and find the process pretty straight
forward. However, I want to jazz it up a bit by drawing lines that
appear to glow. That is, lines that will be white in the middle and
the diffuse out to a darker color. Photoshoppers might recognize this
as the outer glow effect.

Is this possible as part of the standard API? If not, I guess the
solution might be to extend the class so that it draws lines along
side the original on both sides that darken in color to simulate the
effect.

Re: [android-beginners] Iphone development versus Android

2010-01-17 Thread Kenn Lisudza
Thats a really nice good insight. Me particularly being a java developer for
a while now must agree Android development is quite intuitive. Not to say
that Objective C is any harder just depends on YOU.
Well I must say that the android platform (market) isn't well stocked with
lots of apps like the apple store but with psyched up developers and more
people getting onto the bandwagon slowly we will get there.

On Thu, Jan 14, 2010 at 2:18 AM, Kevin Duffey andjar...@gmail.com wrote:

 There are a number of factors I think you run in to for a fair answer. As
 Danny said, the market is MUCH larger on iPhone...for now. But you run in to
 some issues... which if you already developed for iPhone you may not have
 yourself. The primary one being forced to use mac hardware to develop on.
 The cheapest hardware for Mac is not very cheap and for most of us 1-off
 developers doing this on the side, most likely out of reach. Therefore, the
 choice is easy in that case, Android. I suppose it depends on the actual
 device you own too. If you already have iPhone and can't break contract to
 grab an Android device.. or don't want to pay either full price just for the
 hardware, or sign a 2nd contract with Verizon, T-Mobile or Sprint, then you
 may have to weight that in on your decision.

 For me, the other day I read a post on here (or another forum..can't
 remember) that I already knew, but it sort of woke me up. The biggest pain
 point of the iPhone for end users is the issue of switching apps. You can't.
 Any time you launch an app from another, you most of the time can't go back.
 I think there are a few cases where you can go back to FaceBook from the
 browser, for example. But most of the time, you have to completely restart
 the app and often times navigate your way back to where you were when you
 launched another app. Or, you hit their one home button, which effectively
 closes the app you were running, and start another. Then go back..and you
 just started it again. Again there are some apps that may save state between
 runs, I've not found one myself that does this.

 I asked my wife... a sort of anti-computer person who loves her iPhone,
 what her biggest complaint with it was. Without me saying anything to her,
 she said she hates having to switch to another app because she loses her
 place in the first app and has to start all over.

 I am gong out on a limb to guess that Apple, in their soon to be announced
 iPhone 4 might address the multi-tasking issue. But if they do, they are
 either going to have to make the underlying OS do true multi-tasking between
 multiple apps.. at the risk of potential battery life draining.. or update
 their SDK and require iPhone 3gs and previous apps to be recompiled to take
 advantage of say, some new lifecycle requirements in order to work in the
 new multi-tasking iPhone. I had a hard time understanding the one Activity
 running while all others are paused situation with Android, but now I
 understand that is due to battery concerns that this is done. It will be
 interesting to see if iPhone 4 will offer multi-tasking and if it does, how
 it handles it. My understanding is the new iPhone will be dual-core with
 more memory, dual cameras and some other things. We'll find out in April.

 I also consider the coding barrier. I did C a long time ago, been doing
 Java for years. Java to me is far easier to work with than Objective-C,
 although, to be fair, Android is a ways off from being nearly as capable as
 iPhone in areas like high-quality video games, high-quality music apps and
 so forth that you can find on the iPhone right now. But I think the Java vs
 Objective-C (for most things) is far easier for most to get in to.. and you
 can pretty much develop and test on any platform. Once you get into NDK
 native code, it may be a bit more level playing field.

 Anyway..that's my .02.

here is how you should call a

Intent startalarm=new Intent(context,YOUR_CLASS_TO_CALL);

[android-beginners] SDK Download Issues

Hi,

Has anyone had problems downloading the new SDK? I'm new to Android
and curiosity has led me to download the SDK but it keeps failing half
way through the process 3x at 15 MB for a 22MB file.

I have been able to download from other websites without an issue so I
know it's not my connection. Can you please tell me the right place
(email address) to post this problem it seems the server stops
responding after a set amount of time.

I have a capped connection and at this rate I will use up all of my

[android-beginners] Re: Eclipse Debugger

2010-01-17 Thread KitzyKitt
To get the debugger to work in Eclipse requires that the emulator is
up and running. If it isn't up and running, eclipse will attempt to
start it. The startup prosses on my machine can take upto 5 mins.
However, the debugger will not attach until the program starts running
in the emulator.

If however, you are wanting to step-through the android specific code,

yet.

  I would say that it is impossible (at least very undesirable) to

  Therefore, I am assuming that most people using Eclipse are using the

  Since I can get the source line debugger working with stand-alone and

  Android problem.

  I've been using Eclipse for over 5 years so I am no Newbie.

  Obviously there are technical issues involved, the Android program is
  running on the emulator but surely it IS POSSIBLE to be able to step

[android-beginners] Re: source not found error!

2010-01-17 Thread csaunders
If you generated a project with Eclipse you should've had to create an
activity when you created the project.

Open up your AndroidManifest.xml file and look at it (either using the
ADT tool or simply the XML itself) and make sure you have something
similar to this:

application android:icon=@drawable/icon android:label=@string/
app_name
activity android:name=.HelloAndroid
  android:label=@string/app_name
intent-filter
action android:name=android.intent.action.MAIN /
category
android:name=android.intent.category.LAUNCHER /
/intent-filter
/activity

/application

The Android documentation explains the manifest file quite well I
suggest you check that out too.

[android-beginners] Keys don't work with SurfaceView

2010-01-17 Thread guich
Hi,

I have this View:

public class Launcher4A extends SurfaceView implements
SurfaceHolder.Callback, OnKeyListener
{
  public Launcher4A(Context context)
  {
 super(context);
 System.loadLibrary(tcvm);
 instance = this;
 surfHolder = getHolder();
 surfHolder.addCallback(this);
 setWillNotDraw(true);
 setFocusable(true);
 requestFocus();
 setOnKeyListener(this);
  }

  public boolean onKey(View v, int keyCode, KeyEvent event)
  {
 Log.i(TotalCross, onKeyDown +keyCode);
 return true;
  }
}

When i run the application in Emulator, the onKey is never called if
the Launcher4A class was clicked inside. Actually, i was able to get
the onKeyDown log once, when i clicked somewhere outside the view, but
i'm unable to get it when the view has focus.

Am I missing something?

Best,

  guich

I search for a washing machine, their inventory is very bad I can’t

registered for that. The site says they will check if my item is
available in the market. If it is available they will approve my new
inventory and my group will be available for anybody else to join. It
is fascinating, but time consuming. I am waiting.

[android-beginners] Intent filter doesn't work with service

2010-01-17 Thread florianschulze
Hey.

I want my application to show up in the selection list that pops up
when you share an image. This works fine with the following intent
filter in the manifest:

activity ...
intent-filter
action android:name=android.intent.action.SEND/
category android:name=android.intent.category.DEFAULT/
category android:name=android.intent.category.ALTERNATIVE/
data android:mimeType=image/jpeg /
/intent-filter
/activity

However, this does only work when put within my main activity. The
exact same filter doesn't work in a service section, my application
won't show up in the selection list. But since I want my application
to silently process the image I need a service to listen for the
intent, not an activity that pops up a window. Any ideas on what I
might be doing wrong?

Thanks in advance.

[android-beginners] Getting a string from HTTP

2010-01-17 Thread James Baker
I think that the best way for me to start this post is to explain what
I'm doing. I'm learning the Android platform because I want to learn
how to program in Java (I'll need it for a class next year), and I
reckon that the best way of doing this is for me to write simple apps.
I have spent the last year programming in python so I know basic
concepts, but I am teaching myself the most of it as I go along. This
is the first time I have ventured outside of the relative safety of
the book I am 'learning' from (in all honesty, I find these books
better as references than actual tutorials).

I am currently stuck on a certain part of an app I am writing. What
the app is meant to do is grab a string from a dynamically generated
text file (over the http protocol). This is then displayed on the
screen. I tend to learn best by example, so I have been looking for
examples of opening http resources. I have started with a book I am
learning from (Beginning Android) and a snippet on stackoverflow.
These two 'examples' are
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1959676/httpget-in-android-unresolvedhostexception/1960768
and
http://github.com/commonsguy/cw-android/blob/a5108d95e07eb79807f865c21bcee005b9dac917/Internet/Weather/src/com/commonsware/android/internet/WeatherDemo.java
which are either more complicated, complete ideas or are tiny samples.
I have botched together some code, but it is not working, and whilst I
am fairly sure why, I'm not entirely sure how I could remedy it. This
is my source code at the moment for anyone interested:

As you can see, I'm having some trouble with the whole http side of
things. I am not looking for an explanation here or any sort of fix to
my code (that would be rude for me to ask), more a list of places
where I have gone wrong, and perhaps another example of a similar
action to mine. I am new to Java in general, and whilst I am a fast
learner at these sorts of things, I am still firmly in the 'noob'
zone, and being spoon-fed in any way is not great for learning! My
development device is API 3, if that changes anything.

[android-beginners] Add more supported devices to USB Driver for Windows?

2010-01-17 Thread ana
Hi!

I bought an Android phone (Samsung Galaxy Spica i5700) from my mobile
operator, with also development in mind. However, I now must accept
that I cannot use it as a full-fledged development, at least not yet,
since there doesen't seems to be suitable drivers available. The
drivers coming with the device did do anything, and modifying the ini
of the USB Driver for Windows of the SDK did not help either. ADB does
not simply see the device. I can of course copy installation packets
to the device and install, but I cannot debug and copying packets is
tedious.

I assume many of the beginners use MS Windows, and there the problem
is the worst - virtually nothing can be done without proper drivers
either from Android or manufacturer. For Mac things should be working,
and for Linux the devices can be configured using instructions found
from net.

Currently, the drivers coming with the SDK support only few devices, 5
or 6? It would be very nice to add more supported devices to make
development easier.

Best Regards,
Antti Karhu

Hello there,
I'm newbie in Android dev so maybe my questions will sound stupid,
but:
1) Is there some additional SDK or NDK (ideally - both) extensions?
Maybe some certificates must be obtained to get this extensions(or
maybe core level API or 'root authorities')?
2) What kind of IPC between java and C++ apps can be established
(exept JNI)?
3) Is there planning full C++ stl support for NDK?

[android-beginners] Community for Android Developers and Device Users

2010-01-17 Thread theresa
Hi everyone, I wanted to let you know about Duarlander - it's a
community we created for Android developers and device owners. We
started it out to get users and developers in the same place, so
people who own Android devices can test out applications. Once we get
more people we'll be not only testing applications but reviewing them
as well. And of course, everyone is free to talk about their own apps,
talk about apps that they like or use a lot, talk about their phones,
discuss issues or questions that they have...etc.

Take a look and sign up if you're interested in Android! The website
is www.duarlander.com.

Re: [android-beginners] Iphone development versus Android

2010-01-17 Thread Kevin Duffey
Keep in mind there are a number of factors for a less populated market than
iPhone/app store. First.. app store has almost 2 years head start. Even when
there wasn't app store (until 3G came out), people were jail breaking and
building apps for the original iphone. Second, a LOT of developer are both
iPhone and Android.. and have come away with the knowledge of what is pure
crap on the app store. More likely you see less bad apps than on app store
right now. That's not to say tho with the ease of development, no
restrictions on apps (for the most part) and lower cost to entry barrier
that you wont see a flood of bad apps sooner than later, but so far it seems
that there are less crap apps on the market.

Next up is the differences in platforms. A lot of developers, myself
included, realize that Android has quite a ways to go to catch up to the
iPhone capabilities. Presently, it is very difficult if not impossible to
build similar apps. For example, the low latency real-time music apps on
iPhone are top notch... impossible to do on Android right now. High end
games as well are impossible right now. There is an expected Open GL and
Open CL updates along with a JIT coming soon we all hope that will
substantially help Android take off. The JIT will boost performance quite a
bit for most apps, and the hardware level audio and video libraries once
they are part of Android should allow for much more robust/real-time low
latncy games and music apps. A large population of the content on app store
are high end video games.. as I think something like 30% of their sales come
from iPod touch sales... mostly for video games use. I forget the number now
tho..but it was quite a bit. So until Android is as capable, I think you'll
see a lot less high quality games and music apps.

As well, Android is still new, and only the past couple months has seen
devices of iPhone caliber (moto droid, nexus one) arrive on the market. It
will take some months for developers to really tap all the Android 2.0 and
later features.

I would give a fair bit of time, maybe another year, before you can compare
fairly the two devices, and by then iPhone will be working on their 5th
version... their 4th, rumored to be a dual-core beast, is due out in a
couple months.

 Thats a really nice good insight. Me particularly being a java developer
 for a while now must agree Android development is quite intuitive. Not to

But if they do, they are
 either going to have to make the underlying OS do true multi-tasking between
 multiple apps.. at the risk of potential

2010-01-17 Thread Vladyslav Namashko
Hello there,
I'm newbie in Android dev, so maybe my questions sound a little bit
stupid, but:
1) Is there some possibility to obtain additional SDK and NDK api?
(maybe some partners program or something else)
2) Are there any known SDK frameworks (interesting frameworks for
network solutions)
3) What kind of IPC between java and c/c++ app exists (exept JNI)
4) Is there any possibility to get kernel access or to get 'root'
privileges?

Thanks

[android-beginners] Key click sound using soft keyboard

2010-01-17 Thread Dan
I must be missing something obvious (if so I apologize). I am testing
an app on a MOTO Droid that has the system setting Audible selection
checked so that key clicks make sound when the buttons on my app are
pressed. I have two buttons, a set button and a clear button. The
set button essentially records a value from an EditText object.

The problem occurs when the user selects the EditText and the soft
keyboard appears. After a value is typed in and the user presses the
Done button on the soft keyboard, the key click sound does not
play.

Is the proper behavior for the key click sound to play when the Done
button is pressed, or do I have to force this programmatically?

If I have to do it myself, is there an preferred way to play the
sound? (I already listen for the Done button on the soft keyboard so
I know where I would need to play the sound.) I am hoping I have
missed some simple configuration thing here.

Here are XML definitions of the buttons and Edit Text:

EditText
android:id=@+id/txtFoo
android:layout_width=120dip
android:layout_height=wrap_content
android:paddingTop=0px
android:textSize=40px
android:layout_marginTop=160dip
android:layout_gravity=center_horizontal|top
android:textColor=#00
android:gravity=center
android:text=
android:hint=0
android:singleLine=true
android:inputType=phone
android:digits=0123456789
android:imeOptions=actionDone/

ImageButton
android:id=@+id/btnSet
android:layout_width=wrap_content
android:layout_height=wrap_content
android:layout_marginBottom=43dip
android:layout_marginLeft=18dip
android:src=@drawable/btnset
android:background=@null
android:layout_gravity=left|bottom/

ImageButton
android:id=@+id/btnClear
android:layout_width=wrap_content
android:layout_height=wrap_content
android:layout_marginBottom=43dip
android:layout_marginRight=18dip
android:src=@drawable/btnclear
android:background=@null
android:layout_gravity=right|bottom/

Thanks,
Dan

[android-beginners] Re: Cannot parse adb version

2010-01-17 Thread csaunders
Alright, so here are some things you should do:
1 - When you run adb from your terminal window you get output
2 - When you run ant -v from the you get some output telling you
your ant version and an error about build.xml

If these two things are working, then you don't *need* Eclipse to do
your android development. As was stated earlier, ADT on Windows7
doesn't work well if at all.
You can do android development using whatever you want (vim, emacs,
notepad, etc). If you need an IDE perhaps you should give NetBeans a
try. There is an android development plugin made for NetBeans that
might work on Windows 7.

Either using NetBeans or some text editor try and get the Hello World
application working on your emulator. The best way to do that would be
to simply use ant to build your project (make sure your emulator is
already running):
yourandroidproject $ ant compile
yourandroidproject $ adb install -r bin/yourandroidproject.apk

In another window you may want to be running logcat so that you can be
sure the application you are trying to install is actually being sent
to your emulator.

I highly suggest you try getting this working from the command line
first.

Cheers,

CS

 I recently did a reinstall of:ECLIPSE/ANDROID  ANT on a windows7
 laptop.  Some say that windows7 isn't compatible.  Which leads me to
 this questionIF is ISN'T, then how are others developing IN
 WINDOWS7  Anyway, all of the files are in their proper locations
 (Eclipse/Android and Ant).  ALL of the PATHS are setup correctly
 within window7 enviornment settings.  With that being said, WHEN
 ECLIPSE is STARTED from WITHIN WINDOWS7, this ERROR comes up that says
 UNABLE TO PARSE ADB VERSION.  I have tried running ADB KILL-SERVER /
 ADB START-SERVER from the command prompt.  The emulator starts fine,
 but the app in question NEVER STARTS.  Same result if the app is run
 from within ECLIPSE.  All of the most recent AVD's are present and
 installed.  Tried ALL the AVD's...but the app will not appear and run
 the way it should.  Even checked the ADT version, that too is correct.
 SO, if windows7 is not compatible AND other are developing on
 windows7, then it comes down to OVER-LOOKING SOMETHING.
 Does ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS OF WHAT THAT COULD BE?  I WOULD
 APPRECIATE THAT IF ANYONE HAS HAD this issue, let me know what the
 problem was, and how you found/solved it.
 Thanks to everyone for the help and assistance.  Rc3375

[android-beginners] Re: Starting Google Maps at pre-specified location

2010-01-17 Thread Denis
Well, clearify, what I've said:

I'm using next code in order to open Google Maps at London (for
instance).

public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.query); //my first layout with button

Button searchbutton = (Button) findViewById(R.id.Button01); //
simple button, when click by user comes - Maps are opened
searchbutton.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener(){

public void onClick(View view) {
openmap
(); //method
that opens Maps (see below)
 }});
}
private void openmap(){

//Now starting Intent with parameters, open a MyMap.class, where magic
happens - map appears, but on standard North American view...

Intent i = new Intent(android.content.Intent.ACTION_VIEW, Uri.parse
(geo:0,0?=London), this, MyMap.class);

startActivityForResult(i, ACTIVITY_CREATE);

}
}

What it could be? Any ideas?

[android-beginners] simple web search based on location

2010-01-17 Thread sunny
Hi Folks,
wondering if any of you can help.
This is what I am trying to do:
simple app to get list of addresses I am interested in based on my current
location.

I get the current location using location services. Now, based on this
current location I want to do a search on business places without really
using the SearchManager's triggerSearch. The problem with the triggerSearch
is that it launches the googlemap and show the business address I am
 looking for and it is blocked. I want to get the control back. I do not
want to launch the map with the listing. all I want to do is the get the
Geopoint of the business address I am interested in using a simple web
search. I tried reverseGeocoding , but it is does not work with business
address. It needs full address. any suggestion?.

Simply put, all I want to do is a simple websearch , say query=whole foods,
los gatos, CA to get its full address. and then use it to get the GeoPoint.

I am stuck and wondering if anyone can give me some pointers.

thanks a ton in advance.
Sunny.

[android-beginners] Re: Iphone development versus Android

2010-01-17 Thread Michael boggess
Its hard to fairly compare the two because Android is an operating
system that runs on multipule machines. The iPhone is just one well
refined device.

Market maturaty also has a big impact. People are more acustomed to
and know waht to expect from the app store. The Android market is
still young.

On Jan 17, 1:35 pm, Kevin Duffey andjar...@gmail.com wrote:

 I would give a fair bit of time, maybe another year, before you can compare
 fairly the two devices, and by then iPhone will be working on their 5th
 version... their 4th, rumored to be a dual-core beast, is due out in a
 couple months.

 still young.

  Keep in mind there are a number of factors for a less populated market
 than
  iPhone/app store. First.. app store has almost 2 years head start. Even
 when
  there wasn't app store (until 3G came out), people were jail breaking and
  building apps for the original iphone. Second, a LOT of developer are
 both
  iPhone and Android.. and have come away with the knowledge of what is
 pure
  crap on the app store. More likely you see less bad apps than on app
 store
  right now. That's not to say tho with the ease of development, no
  restrictions on apps (for the most part) and lower cost to entry barrier
  that you wont see a flood of bad apps sooner than later, but so far it
 seems
  that there are less crap apps on the market.

The JIT will boost performance quite
 a
  bit for most apps, and the hardware level audio and video libraries once
  they are part of Android should allow for much more robust/real-time low
  latncy games and music apps. A large population of the content on app
 store
  are high end video games.. as I think something like 30% of their sales
 come
  from iPod touch sales... mostly for video games use. I forget the number
 now
  tho..but it was quite a bit. So until Android is as capable, I think
 you'll
  see a lot less high quality games and music apps.

  As well, Android is still new, and only the past couple months has seen
  devices of iPhone caliber (moto droid, nexus one) arrive on the market.
 It
  will take some months for developers to really tap all the Android 2.0
 and
  later features.

  I would give a fair bit of time, maybe another year, before you can
 compare
  fairly the two devices, and by then iPhone will be working on their 5th
  version... their 4th, rumored to be a dual-core beast, is due out in a
  couple months.

Thanks Sreehari.
Hi Sreehari,

Actually that piece of code doesnt work for SDK 1.0 as well.

I sorted out the issue. I had to simply follow the steps explained here :

My bad. I didnt read the doc thoroughly before posting this query.

Thanks,

 Hi,
 I think ur code will work for SDK 1.0 only. For higher version it will
 work by applying some small changes in your code.

 Use

 Contacts.People.createPersonInMyContactsGroup(getContentResolver(),

 Instead of

 ContentResolver contRes= getContentResolver();
 contRes.insert(People.CONTENT_URI, values);

 Hope this will work.
