2010-01-27 Thread Pushpendra Bhandari
Hi, i am great arr fan and i love his music. but it is sad to say that he also
copies tunes. I have not noticed this before in his hindi alblums but i found
it in 'Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya'. Actually he is known for originality. but
thats' not true i think. May be he have used nepali tunes since nepali people
don't listen tamil song and though no one will know it. Only i am the person to
listen tamil songs as well since beign a fan of arr. The music starting from
1:37 to 2:38 in Anbil Avan is ditto copy from one of the nepali songs. I dont
remember the song but the music is exactly same. I doon't know why arr uses it.
Also, the additional voices tune in Aaromale is also seems to be copied . I
have already heard that tune in one of the nepali songs.IIf i wil find those
nepali song then surely i will share in this group. Prevously Vishhal-shekar
also copied some nepali tunes.

anyway arr is great.
 bye n enjoy arr music.

2010-01-27 Thread Gayathri Chandrakasan
Thanks myown_niche for your fine reflections on this matter. You've pointed out
the exact thoughts that were running on my mind.

I too feel that it's futile to venture into this topic. The fact that ARR has
been conferred with one of the highest award is a reason to celebrate by
itself. Thus, why spoil the celebrations by broaching into this needless debate
on IR's attitude and characteristics?

In fact, like Shan rightly pointed out, IR didn't say anything bad about ARR.
He just said that such questions should be posed to ARR himself and not him. IR
might not have shared the humility and modesty of ARR, but then again, does
this give any of us the right to bad-mouth him?

On the same note, bringing up topics of what IR said in the past i.e during the
felicitation programme or way back in the 90's is again an inappropriate topic
of discussion. In my humble view, such discussions would add nothing but hatred
among the hearts of our fellow members.

Like ARR himself said All my life, I had the choice of hate and love. I chose
love, and I am here . So, kindly forego all the hatred and let's lead our
lives with love for others.

Regards.

In a forum where we discuss about ARR's music and the person himself, a
discussion about IR is not at all required. So I request you all to enjoy ARR's
win. As IR says, why should I feel for him; it is applicable to him from our
part too, when we discuss about only ARR here. And ARR, in his inimitable
style, has given his take on the same. That's it.

Until now, ARR has always been humble and simple, and that persona captures
attention and imagination of people from every section of the society across
the globe. If that makes him great, that's good for us to emulate such
attributes.

Who's the biggest or Who's the greatest is not a worthy discussion here.
Let's hear the music they create and the normal people (including you and me!)
will give their verdicts. And as you all know, the public is intelligent to
decide who they admire the most, when each of them have their own choices. So
please stop such discussions, which add nothing much to the group and the
discussions.

It's a sincere request.

One of the biggest strength of ARR is Controlling self in terms of pride,
words. By being positive always he is been able to achieve in a very short time
what his predecessors have and sometimes much more than what they have. At the
same time is able to sustain himself in peak. He is a challenge to himself. And
that AR wins always.
We lose the moment negative thoughts get into our thoughts it gradually spoils
our work and then the results later everything that was achieved.
Lets not drag IR or his son's negative comments here discussing it only spoils
the mood and just nothing. forgive and forget, its a divine quality which a

Re: [arr] ARR and IR's press meet after the announcement of PB awards

2010-01-27 Thread AJ
While I agree with the above statements by myown_niche and Gayathri, I also
think it's ok for us to vent some ire over IR's non acknowledgement of ARR's
achievement, where avoidance and silence can be seen as a louder statement than
saying something in words. But, let's just stick to this behavior alone and
not get into a broader comparison between AR and IR, both of whom are musical
legends, both of whom have passionate fans, both of whom are deserving of this
gov recognition. And after some venting, let's get back to discussing AR's
music please.

Thanks myown_niche for your fine reflections on this matter. You've pointed

I too feel that it's futile to venture into this topic. The fact that ARR has
been conferred with one of the highest award is a reason to celebrate by
itself. Thus, why spoil the celebrations by broaching into this needless
debate on IR's attitude and characteristics?

In fact, like Shan rightly pointed out, IR didn't say anything bad about ARR.
He just said that such questions should be posed to ARR himself and not him.
IR might not have shared the humility and modesty of ARR, but then again,
does this give any of us the right to bad-mouth him?

On the same note, bringing up topics of what IR said in the past i.e during
the felicitation programme or way back in the 90's is again an inappropriate
topic of discussion. In my humble view, such discussions would add nothing
but hatred among the hearts of our fellow members.

Like ARR himself said All my life, I had the choice of hate and love. I
chose love, and I am here . So, kindly forego all the hatred and let's lead
our lives with love for others.

In a forum where we discuss about ARR's music and the person himself, a
discussion about IR is not at all required. So I request you all to enjoy
ARR's win. As IR says, why should I feel for him; it is applicable to him
from our part too, when we discuss about only ARR here. And ARR, in his
inimitable style, has given his take on the same. That's it.

Until now, ARR has always been humble and simple, and that persona captures
attention and imagination of people from every section of the society across
the globe. If that makes him great, that's good for us to emulate such
 attributes.

Who's the biggest or Who's the greatest is not a worthy discussion here.
Let's hear the music they create and the normal people (including you and
me!) will give their verdicts. And as you all know, the public is intelligent
to decide who they admire the most, when each of them have their own choices.
So please stop such discussions, which add nothing much to the group and the

Guys, so IR never give any supportive answer for ARR. As far as i know, IR has
never praised any Music director, not even his own sons. I guess thats his
character. We should not speak ill of IR. Let him be as he is. As long he is
happy with what he is doing, its great. ARR on the other hand has a very periya
manase. He has no problem in praising any music director, even if they r a
newbie. He has openly said he is afraid whether he could match with Gautham-HJ
combo for VTV. I mean, he is a maestro, but he still could think such! We
should be proud we r ARR fan. period. :)

when IR was asked about his thoughts on Rahman being awarded the Padmabushan
as well, his response was 'ask Rahman' whilst it would have been nice to see
him congratulate a fellow artist/musician. However, he may have not felt the
need to at that point and perhaps may have even done it personally with
Rahman but it would have been nice to have him say something in the lines of
'I am happy for him as well' or 'I am glad yet another musician has been
appreciated for his efforts' because in the very same interview, he'd
mentioned how the Padmabushan was not for recognition of his work but
appreciation instead. Rahman on the otherhand when asked about IR's
Padmabushan, came out with IR and I are family.  Both being awarded the
Padmabushan only doubles my joy'. IR, like you said is a great elder
person precisely why it would have been nice to see him tap a talented
growing child (read Rahman) on the back (not literally) and say 'well done to
 you too mate!'.

When I made this compilation and listened to it, it completely struck me how
much of a range of sounds and musical styles/genres we have been exposed to in
the past year just by ARR alone. Listening to this compilation is pure bliss
and only ARR could have composed such a range and depth. Everyone's list will
be different for sure. From D6 to VTV, here are my favorites:

Sajna (CR)
Bhoola Tujhe (Blue)
Rehna Tu (D6)
VTV Title Song (VTV)
Meeting Marcel (CR)
Hosanna (VTV)
Dil Gira Dafatan (D6)
Undress (CR)
Rehnuma (Blue)
Tour of the Villas (CR)
Omanna Penne (VTV)
Kuru Kuru (CR)
Fiqrana (Blue)
Mannipaya (VTV)
Salvador (CR)
Arziyan (D6)
Animal Spirits (CR)
Aaromale (VTV)
Intervention (CR)
Genda Phool (D6)
Nana (CR)

We've heard this before and now we're hearing it again. You say ARR blatantly
lifts and copies and that his originality is invalid, and then in the next
breath ARR is great. Unless you have solid proof, please avoid making such
accusations as you will not get pleasant replies from this group.

Most of the time, when people accuse ARR of copying a tune, it's not the tune
that's being copied note by note, but that the melody is from the same raaga,
genre, or style.which is not copying at all.

Here we go again.

'I am here to say how much I love you', Biz Luhrmann

*
Mumbai: *You need to see it to believe it — the kind of camaraderie that AR
Rahman shares with Aussie film-maker Baz Luhrmann. The Mozart of Madras
quietly slipped into Mumbai late on Republic Day and rushed back to Chennai
yesterday afternoon after spending a few hours with the critically acclaimed
director and his artist friend Vincent Fantauzzo.

   - *
   *

“I got in touch with Rahman while making Moulin Rouge. Since then, we’ve
been constantly in touch. I don’t call him by his name; I call him maestro.
I am so glad that he has come all the way just to meet me,” says Luhrmann as
he affectionately puts his arm around Rahman.

Rahman and Luhrmann are looking to work together. Rahman says, “We had a
meeting and I would love to work with a director like him. We have been
exchanging ideas for a long time now. I hope they fructify soon.”

Luhrmann adds, “We are just looking for the right story to tell. We hope to
find it soon.”

Speaking about the attacks on Indians in Australia, Luhrmann says, “It
disturbs me everytime I hear about an attack on an Indian.

my friend there is absolutely no point of this allegation without source and
details of songs. what you said has been said some thousands of times but never
proved. most of the times it is merely minor similarity (e.g. in rhythm or
beats etc) or freely available loops etc.

and this reply is not about their musical skils. What I think Satheesh
was saying was that when IR was asked about his thoughts on Rahman being
awarded the Padmabushan as well, his response was 'ask Rahman' whilst it
would have been nice to see him congratulate a fellow artist/musician.
However, he may have not felt the need to at that point and perhaps may
have even done it personally with Rahman but it would have been nice to
have him say something in the lines of 'I am happy for him as well' or 'I
am glad yet another musician has been appreciated for his efforts'
because in the very same interview, he'd mentioned how the Padmabushan
was not for recognition of his work but appreciation instead. Rahman on
the otherhand when asked about IR's Padmabushan, came out with IR and I
are family.  Both being awarded the
Padmabushan only doubles my joy'. IR, like you said is a great elder
person precisely why it would have been nice to see him tap a talented
growing child (read Rahman) on the back (not literally) and say 'well
   done to you too mate!'.
