hi manisha,
thanks a lot for the nice compilation of AR's quotes.. at a time when there's
so much negativity, with respect to bad reviews and AR has lost it claims,
these quotes create such a nice air of feel-good...

special thanks for including quote no.1 :)
That was AR's answer to my question on rediff! Thanks for making me relive that
moment! I searched and found that rediff link and read it again :D

Just thought would post 5 interesting quotes by Rahman Sir that have caught my
attention. I know there is an ocean of others, but felt these were the most
relevant at the moment. :) Feel free to add your different 5.

1. There is a story of Michelangelo -- if I am not wrong -- which I heard
recently. It seems that he was painting beautiful pictures at the back of the
church.
People told him you are a fool because you are not painting in the front where
people can appreciate your work.
The answer was: I do my work for God. I think he can watch it anywhere.
I thought it was a brilliant answer because everything doesn't need to have
instant appreciation. Even if one of you have appreciated those fine nuances,
that is enough for me.

2. No one can be completely original, because the notes are already there. I
do
a lot of fusion from different traditions including Bach, Beethoven, Mozart,
reggae, rock and Carnatic music — my favourites. As far as possible, i try to
be
original. The rest is up to Allah.”

3. We have to push ourselves in any field, whether we like it or not. It is
just the question of your mindset. We need to adjust and look into our own
selves. The moment you have this attitude that whatever you do is the best,
you
will cease to grow or for that matter experiment, which is very necessary for
creation. I mainly work by instinct.”

4. ”Any great love song, when attributed to a divine source, gets an extra
dimension People say any love that is immortal is divine love… The
inspiration,
therefore, is a divine one..”

5. I also believe in karma. When you do good and think good, there're bound
to
be good things happening in your life too. The good wishes you earn in this
lifetime are the real awards. Good work may or may not get you the awards,
but you will always reap the benefits of good wishes, that's the real Reward!

Have a great month all :)

Re: [arr] ARR Database Interface Design

2010-08-27 Thread Aravind AM
Hi Rakesh,

The design looks neat!! Good job, dude! :)

The database project is really taking off now, and I'm excited! :)
With a DBA  (Roshan) at the helm, I think the search capabilites are gonna be
really good! :)

I think I can drop my ARR database project now...  No point in duplicating the
work!!

Roshan, I'll send u the files that I've been working on... may not be exactly
in the same format...  I have the data already normalised, with separate tables
for songs, singers, directors etc... Will send you the excel file shortly
dont know how useful it will be, though...

  Dear All,

I am keeping track of the ingoing discussion and work done by members about a
full ARR movie and dongs database, in that regard, i have designed the front
design of a movie details. Please note that some details given a not correct,
as i am not very aware of the ragas, but can have an idea about how it looks.

Since its sole purpose is about ARR Movies, I have made a bigger search bar
where anything can be searched, with some category thrown in ..

My plan is to design the following pages

1. Main Movie page - shows detail about a particular movie ( as attached)
2. Year page
3. Singer
4. Language - year wise listing of movie
5. Director
5 - Actor / Actress ( Since the db is about ARR, i think details about the
actor/actresses is sufficient)

Any other you guys can
 suggest.

Suggestions are welcome

[arr] Endhiran - I liked the 2 songs I heard

2010-07-29 Thread Aravind AM
Hi all,

Suryan FM started playing Endhiran songs from 7am today...
2 songs - Arima Arima, Kadhal Anukkal have been played till now..

Arima is typical Shankar-ARR stuff. fast duets, on the lines of Vaaji Vaaji
(similarity is only in the style and mood)

Kadhal anukkal is a slightly fast duet... Shreya's voice is too sweet, as
always!! :D
Vijay prakash tries a few variations in his style of singing I got reminded
of Jassie gift's style of singing in some places!!

I'm tooo excited already!! cant wait for the CDs tomo!!! :D :D :D

[arr] Shankar at Final Day Of Endhiran Shooting Photos [14 Attachments]

2010-07-12 Thread Aravind Chan
Hi Everyone,
Happy to say that the whole Endhiran shoot is wrapped on 7th July with the
shooting of the song sung by AR Rahman, choreographed by Remo at Sun Studios.
It was a very very happy moment for everyone. I think this is the first film
where I am doing the pumpkin breaking pooja (poosanika udaikiradhu) with the
lead stars Rajnikanth Aishwarya Rai.
Everyone had this feeling similar to a cricket last over…. like a 2 year
college wrapping day where you feel very happy also with a heavy heart … I
am
amused when I see the same feelings in everyone….
Our producer Mr. Kalanithi Maran gave a big party on July 9th for the crew.
In
the presence of our honorable Central minister Mr. Dayanidhi Maran, I attended
the party along with Rajni sir, DOP Rathnavelu, Resul Pookutty, Editor Antony

my crew. We shared all the interesting stories related to the making of the
film with Mr. Maran. It was a memorable day for all of us….
A good news… Yesterday morning Rahman gave the tamil songs final mix master
to
us… it is amazing…rocking, sounding as big grand as the budget of the movie.
The first song clearly indicates that our AR Rahman is an Oscar winner. I hope
once again our combination lives up to your expectation levels. And we are
planning to release the audio in this month end.
Yours
Shankar

Word making rounds is that Mani Ratnam's next film is a remake of a
Subhash Ghai hit.

The story is rumored to be a conflict between a police officer and a criminal,
who kidnaps the police officer's sweetheart and takes her on a rough journey,
as the police officer tries to retrieve her and arrest the criminal.

The main difference in the story is rumored to be the ending. The Subhash Ghai
movie turns out with the lady taming the criminal as he swears her chastity in
an open court, thereby vindicating her. However, the Mani Ratnam version
supposedly twists this such that when the police officer questions his
sweetheart's chastity, she rejects him outright and goes back to the criminal.

When contacted regarding this, no one was willing to talk about Mani Ratnam's
movie. A close source said no one should say anything about Mani's movies. If
anyone whispers even a clue about the story, an ancient curse, from the time of
the Satiyuga vapourises the person and no trace of the person is ever found
again. Rumor has it that this curse affected an actress who has a role in the
movie when she leaked the ending of the movie. No sooner did she breathe about
the movie that she was involved in a scandal all over the news and was forced
into hiding for a long time.

A spokesperson from Mukhta Arts released the following statement directly from
Subash Ghai - The Mani the Ratnam is the remaking the one of the my hits. I
encourage such a brave attempt from the one of the best the director's of the
India. If the movie has the music by the A R Rahman, my the blessings will the
be increased by the ten-fold.

The Ghai movie in question most likely seems to be Khal Nayak, but given the
similarity between Ghai's films, this is only hearsay.

In the meantime, people everywhere wait with baited breath for what appears to
be Mani Ratnam's most interesting venture in recent times.

- Cornholiosbungholio

AintItFakeNews.in

AintItFakeNews.in is a subsidary of SpoofNews.in.

P.S. The curse seems to be true, since once this story was broken,
AintItFakeNews.in and SpoofNews.in were vapourised and all proof of the
existance of the sites were wiped out from this world. Your brave reporter only
survived due to the annonymity that the Internet offers.

[arr] Raavanan - First look event!

2010-05-14 Thread Aravind AM
Yes! I was there! :)

What an evening! I'm still so excited! :)

Awesome experience! This was the best Audio launch I've been to!
Lovely evening, very well planned, and very well organised ... The format of
the show was very much similar to the Raavan (Hindi) audio launch... The
beautiful forest set on the stage was also similar! :)

Actor Karthik and Priya Mani were MCs for the evening. Actors Prithviraj,
Prabhu, Vikram were called on to the stage, one by one, separated by
performances..

Singer Karthik's Usurey Pogudhey was the first... Awesome
performance singer Karthik and Dr Narayan with
live strings (Srinivasa Moorthy sir conducted it)...

The second performance was dance by Vikram and co for Kodu potta song...
The third one was bigger!! AR and Vairamuthu came up to the stage for the
unreleased song Naan Varuvaen! AR mentioned that this was done after all
songs were closed, a very late idea struck them, which led to creation of this
song. He also mentioned that this song is used during an important part of the
movie...

Kalvarey was the only full song that was screened therehalf of Kodu potta
was shown, and a montage of clips of the movie was shown with usurey pogudhey
and Veera as the background. And the trailer was also screened...
I loved the way Kalvarey was picturised... only Mani sir can do it! So simple,
but elegant Most part of the song is shot in a house - on the porch, in the
kitchen, in the bedroom, as ash is shown dancing throughout moving about the
house along with Prithviraj!

My expectations are raising higher and higher! Cant wait for the movie

Here are some pics that I clicked at the event! :)

Raavan and Raavanan motivated me to find time to write! :)

Before listening to the album, I was expecting the album to be rich in
classical music, and was expecting it to be melodious, with lots of hindustani
flavour thrown in, wiht lovely tabla's accompanying...  Probably cos of initial
news suggesting that Aishwarya Rai plays a singer in the movie...

Even after I listened to that first teaser with Beera Beera song, I didnt
change my expectation! So, I start listening to the album, and what do I get?
shock after shock!
I had never imagined so much folk touch, and heavy beats... Though I spotted
brilliance throughout the album, I wasn't very happy, I wasnt comfortable with
the album - until that expectation mode wore off!

After that, I've been listening to it so many times, relishing the absolute
wizardry showcased by AR in this masterpiece of an album! I'm in love with the
absolute energy in Beera, the longing in Behne De, the tantalising vocals of
Rekha in Ranjha, the silky smooth rendition by Reena and superb flute
accompaniment by Naveen kumar, the irreverance in Tok de Killi, the love in
Khili re, the fun in Kata kata!! Each song is a gem!!

I'm glad I moved out from my expectation soon and started enjoying this
absolute masterpiece!

Started listening to Raavanan, and loving it!!
My thoughts on Raavanan later..  I'm waiting for it to sink in :)

[arr] My VTV experience on the roads ;)

2010-01-30 Thread Aravind AM
Hi all,

As usual, I was blasting away VTV songs on shuffle mode on my Car Audio, as I
drove to work last morning, through busy Chennai roads. A car kept following
me, and honking but couldnt reach due to the heavy traffic. I was wondering
whats wrong. Later, the car caught up with me in a signal, and stood next to my
car. There was a 8-10 year old kid and his father in the car. The father smiled
at me, and asked me what was that song playing in your car? we heard it when we
were next to you at a traffic signal, and my son heard it and loved it... we
werent able to reach you due to the traffic! I told him it was Hosanna from AR
Rahman's latest tamil album Vinnaithandi Varuvaya. By then, Aaromaley had
started. The kid was literally jumping in the seat listening to the song... I
loved the excitement on the kid's face!

He said, that his kid loves the songs though he was hearing them for the first
time. He too fell in love with both the songs (hosanna and Aaromaley). I told
him, the entire album is a masterpiece, you should check it out. He replied
that he will by the CD as soon as possible, though he usually doesnt buy tamil!
I was excited! :)

They drove alongside for a few more km, before bidding farewell and promising
to buy the CD!

I may not go for Grammys: RahmanRajesh Ahuja, Hindustan TimesEmail Author

New Delhi, January 29, 2010

First Published: 09:00 IST(29/1/2010)

He juggles accolades with panache. That’s what separates AR Rahman from his
contemporaries. After a grand concert strewn with Bollywood dance acts and
acoustic charm at the Parramatta Grounds in Sydney, Australia, Rahman is now
gearing up for a Grammy run. Actually, he isn’t. “I may not even go for the
Grammys,” said Rahman in an exclusive chat with HT City.

The reticent composer, who picked international honours in bulk for the
anthem Jai Ho from the Oscar-winningSlumdog Millionaire, isn’t excited about
the Grammys, scheduled to take place in Los Angeles this Sunday. “I have a few
work commitments, so (I am) not even thinking about the Grammy Awards,” he said.

However, Rahman is honoured to have Hollywood heavyweight Steven Spielberg
(maker of hit films such as E.T. Extra Terrestrial, Jaws and Jurassic Park)
voicing his willingness to work with him. “That’s really sweet of him
[Spielberg]. I’d love to work with him, too,” Rahman said.

The mega composer, who’s now armed with a swanky new-look website and also
fairly active on the micro-blogging siteTwitter, is currently working on Jaane
Tu…Ya Jaane Na director Abbas Tyrewala’s 1-800-Love, filmmaker Shekhar
Kapur’s Passage and producer Ashok Amritraj’s Street Dancing. For the
soundtrack of Amritraj’s film, Rahman is reportedly collaborating with English
songwriter-music producer Dave Stewart of Eurythmics fame.

2010-01-27 Thread Aravind AM
Mr Bhandari,

I looked through the archives, and found that you're always interested to see
if some song or the other has been copied by ARR, and every time u get a proof
that the song has not copied...

u alleged Azeem-o-shan shehenshah was copied, and we proved otherwise...
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/arrahmanfans/message/118464

u alleged that ARR copied from anu malik, and again.. we proved otherwise...
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/arrahmanfans/message/121272

and now u r back!

Hope you learn and stop sending such non-sense to the group! Please stop
throwing blanket statements without substantiating!

@Gops/Vijay, IMHO, such mails with baseless allegations should be blocked.
Healthy criticisms and arguments are fine, but I'm not sure if these should be
allowed. Such posts show up in search engine results, and general public very
easily form opinions based on stuff like these! Not many would read all
explanations and understand the facts!

Hi, i am great arr fan and i love his music. but it is sad to say that he
also copies tunes. I have not noticed this before in his hindi alblums but i
found it in 'Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya'. Actually he is known for originality.
but thats' not true i think. May be he have used nepali tunes since nepali
people don't listen tamil song and though no one will know it. Only i am the
person to listen tamil songs as well since beign a fan of arr. The music
starting from 1:37 to 2:38 in Anbil Avan is ditto copy from one of the nepali
songs. I dont remember the song but the music is exactly same. I doon't know
why arr uses it. Also, the additional voices tune in Aaromale is also seems to
be copied . I have already heard that tune in one of the nepali songs.IIf i wil
find those nepali song then surely i will share in this group. Prevously
Vishhal-shekar also copied
 some nepali tunes.

anyway arr is great.
 bye n enjoy arr music.

Remember 3 songs of Guru -

1. Shauk Hai

2. Tere Bina (Quadir version)

3. Guru Theme

First 2 were released on mp3 later, whereas theme was not released. I finally
managed to contact Sony Music guys. Wrote them a lengthy mail appreciating
their work (compared to other companies) - how they take the pain to get
copyright permissions from other labels (to make good compilation) instead of
including annoying cover versions (like T-Series), and also wrote that they
could have included some exciting tracks like Guru's 3 songs in Sivaji Hindi
album (instead of just repeating same songs in all their compilations) .

They replied saying that they appreciate how we buy CDs instead of downloading
them from net... and would try their best to include these songs in AR Rahman's
next compilation album which would be coming out in mid/late Feb

Exciting na!! Hopefully they will include Guru Theme this time :D

[arr] VTV audio Launch - My memories

2010-01-12 Thread Aravind AM
Hi,

I was at the launch yesterday, as I was lucky enough to get an invite!
loads of unforgettable memories.. jotting down a few here:

- The unplugged versions of all songs were performed, just like the London
Promo...  They all were in the same suits too :D
- Omana penne
was in a totally different flavour, devoid of all the malayalam
connection... Blaaze had come up with a RAP too for this song

- It was such a treat to listen to Aaromaley Live! The other songs were
great too in the unplugged format.. but Aaromaley was special!
-
Gautam said it was Rahman who told Gautam that they should have one
more song, in addition to the 6 they had planned... and  that is
Aaromaley... Rahman called up Gautam and told him, why dont we add one
more song? lets do a Malayalam song with blues touch

- Gautam mentioned Rahman suggested that they should that Mannippaya
should be sung by a female, cos gos normally dont apologise, so they
should change that! :P
-
Rahman and Kamal came on stage for a few mins, each of them spoke just
a few lines ARR - s humble as usual! He even said he isn't sure
if this album will match up to the standards set by Gautam-Harris
combo! he said it is a very quirky album and it can succeed only with
our support!

- Clips from the London launch were shown...They were great! :D
- 3 songs (Omana, Hosanna and Kannukkul) videos were played The songs have
been picturised really well. amazing camera work!
-
Met all the singers, met Alphonse too. There's no relation between the way he
has sung and the way he speaks... He is so very soft spoken, so very down to
earth! His aaromalay yesterday was amaaazing!

Re: [arr] Re: Mannipaya [Will you forgive me?] - Translation

2010-01-11 Thread Aravind AM
I totally disagree with you, Dinesh Thamarai, the next vairamuthu... No
way

Lyrics are the weakest part of the album. Thamarai hardly writes poetry for
lyrics, she writes prose right from Vaseegara days, till now, she has
been like that.
And it has continued almost throughout this album...

take this for instance: (anbil avan song)
Unnai Unai endhan vaazhkai thunai aaga erkindren erkindren
Unnai thaandi edhaiyum ennaal yosanai seiyya mudiyaadhey mudiyaadhey...

I'm sorry.. but that is prose... and absolutely irritating when you focus on
the lyrics when listening to the song the meaning may be good, but the way
it is presented is what makes good lyrics... Thamarai loses out totally on
that

Not just that, in many places, the words seems force-fit, and hence taking some
beauty out of the song! :(

I wish Vaali or Vairamuthu had written the lyrics...
I'm waiting for

[arr] Kavita Baliga (KM Faculty) - TOI interview

2010-01-07 Thread Aravind AM
(from page 7 of Chennai Times dated 8-Jan-2010. Available in Timesofindia
Epaper)
A different tune What’s Hot talks to Kavita Baliga, who teaches western
classical music at AR Rahman’s music conservatory…
How did you come to be involved with AR Rahman’s music conservatory?
I
speak Konkani. Every couple of years, the Konkani Association of
California organises cultural conventions which are attended by
Konkanis from all over North America. These programmes are aimed at
promoting Konkani/Indian culture among second-generation Konkanis.
During one such convention, they had invited ‘Guitar’ Prasanna to
perform. After the convention, Prasanna left for Chennai where he met A
R Rahman who told him that they were looking for a western voice
teacher. Prasanna recommended me for the position and a week-and-a-half
later, I was in India! Has teaching always been a passion? At first, I thought
teaching would be an interim activity and that my real focus would be on
performing. Now that I’m teaching full-time, I’m realising how much I love it
and how incredibly fulfilling it is to give a part of yourself to others and
see them take it and flourish with it.Teaching music is not like teaching maths
or science. It is much more abstract and requires a lot of self-awareness, a
good voice, and a good ear. I love the fact that we are bringing something to
India that hasn’t really existed here before. That, by itself, motivates me. How
would you rate the awareness level of Indian youngsters with respect to western
classical music? Oh, there’s absolutely zero awareness. Almost 99 per cent of
my students had no prior exposure to western classical music. Not only
that, most of them had never even heard of the genres involved within
that title. For example, if I mentioned the words ‘Opera’ or ‘Lieder’,
my students would draw a blank. The only western music these students
had heard before was what we call American bubblegum pop.
How did you become a part of Passage? Could you share your experiences of
working with Shekar Kapur?
I
worked directly with AR on the aria for Passage. I met Shekar much
later, at one of the rehearsals for my performance at the premiere of
the film in Venice. I don’t know him well, but I absolutely loved what
little I saw of him. He seemed totally and utterly incapable of small
talk and was constantly speaking in abstracts! I’m uncomfortable and
awkward with small talk myself. So, it was a welcome surprise. It’s so
refreshing to have real conversations with people.
How do you manage to find time for other creative arts as well?
I
absolutely love working like hell. I love being busy and seeing the
fruits of my labour. The arts are like a form of meditation for me.
They keep me sane. I feel calm as I go into a zone when I’m singing,
taking pictures, painting, or even cooking. I love the fact that when
I’m doing these things, my mind can just go blank.
HEART-TO-HEART: Kavita Baliga

WORKING WITH RAHMAN
His
style of working is not nearly as rigid as most western composers.
First of all, he doesn’t put anything down on paper. Most of the time,
he plays me something or
sings me something and asks me to repeat it, and just directs me as we
go along. When I worked with him, I found myself suggesting things and
then thinking, ‘Wait, should I be doing that? Am I way out of line
right now?’ But he truly makes you feel as if you’re collaborating on
the project, not as if you’re working for him. And that was the case
before as well as after he won the Oscar. I think that is truly unique
for someone in his position.

It is sad that as Ringa Ringa was using the tune of Choli ke
Peeche, it never got discussed here.

Could any one having knowledge of technical parts of music please analyze the
two and elaborate what technical/ style differences are there in Ringa Ringa
that were not there in Choli Ke Peeche.

No doubt that Choli Ke Peeche was catchy and , aided by the controversy about
the dual meaning lyrics but otherwise also on its own strength, got immensely
popular. Still, it had a lifespan like most of the songs and after that its
popularity got reduced and now it just holds a place among several songs that
got immensely popular.

But, without knowing the technical aspects of music, I feel that Ringa Ringa
has a freshness about it that I don't find in Choli Ke Peeche when I hear that
song now. If it is not my imagination, what exactly is that element(s) that
could have put a new life, a new sound in a song that is more than a decade
old? Or could it be just the changes in the recording and playing technology in
last decade that brought that improvement?

Till now, everybody whom I asked about this song has replied that he likes this
song. Only the using-old-tune element didn't give ARR credit for this song that
he deserved for repacking it. When ARR can touch an old song and make it sound
like a fresh, oven-hot song, I wonder whether it was wise for the director to
insist on using old popular tune as ARR would have come up with an equally or
even more great, catchy song if he was allowed freedom to compose an entirely
new thing for that situation.

[arr] ARR Paintings/sketch @ Art Exhibition

2009-11-02 Thread Aravind AM

Hi all,

I saw this article in Chennai times (TOI Supplement - Friday), and checked out
the art exhibition...

   Saravanan,
a marine engineer, has chosen his canvas to express finer things of
life. He, along with his friends from the Mastery Artist Society (MAS), has
displayed his paintings in the city, which deal with various themes.
Says
Saravanan, “The MAS was started a few months ago so that people from
different walks of life, pursuing different careers, but with a passion
for art, can come together. For instance, I’m a marine engineer, but
painting is dearer than life
to me. Similarly, there are teachers, engineers, entrepreneurs,
housewives and others who love painting. But, many of us don’t have a
platform to showcase our art. So, we formed this society to take our
art to others. We have workshops and conduct competitions regularly.”
In this exhibition, Saravanan has put on display his paintings that
showcase A R Rahman in all his glory. “I love his music. So, when ARR
won the Oscars, I immediately did a series on him with his two Oscars,
in both pencil and water colours,” he says and adds, “At this
exhibition, we have displayed paintings that are close to our heart.”
This budding artist attempted
a Guinness Record by painting non-stop for 58 hours. “On August 15,
2004, I, along with nine other artists, started painting on a 100m
canvas. We continued for two
days, each of us painting a 10m stretch. We focussed on the pride of
India — achievements, kings, Nobel prize winners, award-winning actors,
food and important landmarks. Famous artists of the city witnessed our
attempt, but unfortunately, we didn’t record it. The officials weren’t
present to enter our attempt as well. But, we will definitely make it
to the record books one day,” he signs off with hope. HOT SPOT
Check
out Saravanan’s paintings, along with those of Gabriel, Raja Maran,
Sheeba, Raj, Vijay, Britto, Bala, Mahadev and Vaibhavi at Varna
Karpana-09, Lalit Kala Akademi, 4, Greams Road, Until November 1

I met the artist, Saravanan, who is an ARR fan. Many of his friends too are
also crazy fans of ARR! He was not aware of our group and was excited when I
told him about it...

Here's the pic I clicked with him at the exhibition, with the painting and
sketch in the background...

RE: [arr] WHO SANG THAYYA THAYYA

2009-11-02 Thread Aravind AM
Hi,

It's Palakkad Sriram, not Sriram Parthasarathy...
Apart from the songs you've mentioned, Palakkad Sriram is known for his jathis
(bol)...
Palakkad Sriram is the guy who did the Jathis(Bol) in many songs like Raga
Dance (Choreography, not Taal), Minsara Kannaa, Margazhi Thingal etc

In his Vanakkam Thamizhagam interview and also in Rahmania interview, I
remember Palakkad Sriram mentioning that ARR wanted the punjabi style that
Sukhwinder brings in, but was not very happy with the diction. So, Rahman
patched up the bad diction in many parts of the song with Palakkad Sriram's
voice.

The truth is u hear Palakkad Sriram almost throughout the song, but his name
was unfortunately left out on the CD covers!

[arr] It's difficult to write lyrics for Rahman's Tunes - Vairamuthu

2009-10-26 Thread Aravind AM
Hi,

In the latest issue Kumudam, there was a question about Rahman and Illayaraja,
in Vairamuthu's interview...  here's the scan:
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n260/aravind_am/Vairamuthu_on_ARR.jpg

I'm translating it for u all :)

Question: Do you find a difference in your writing, while working with
different composers? Do words come out from your pen, based on whether the tune
is IR's or ARR's?

VM: Illayaraja's tunes have the tamil touch to them. AR Rahman's tunes have
the whole world's touch. Illayaraja is a man from the villages. He infused folk
music which he grew up with, and various rural music forms into his fulm music.
Though he blended it with Western music, basically he is a village man, and he
ruled folk music. This tamil touch in his music was easy for me, because, I'm
a village man too. I too grew up with the village music.

But, when writing for AR Rahman, I needed to fly to different countries in the
west, and make myself aware of different music forms which were new to me. It's
a bit difficult to write lyrics for AR Rahman's tunes. He doesn't make
ordinary, usual tunes. He makes fresh new tunes for which it is almost
impossible to filt lyrics!

I once asked Rahman, Why do you torture me like this, by breaking the phrases
in your tunes like this?
Rahman replied with a smile Anyone who knows Tamil can write lyrics for an

[arr] Fake track list on Google search results!

2009-10-18 Thread Aravind AM
@Rawat:
Your point that the credibility of the group is at stake, is absolutely valid.

@ Group:
I think this logic should be extended to the fake track lists as well.

We should all understand that the group's posts show up on google search
results...
Just Google for Raavan Tracklist, and you'll see that the first 4 results take
you to the fake track list by Gopal Anandan, posted in this group!

People like us, who are regular in the group know and understand. But imagine
any other movie buff doing a search and landing up on this fake track list...
It would lead to rumours being spread, with the source of the rumour being our
group! Do we want this to happen?

I appreciate one odd fun post, but not at the sake of the group's credibility.
We've been getting exclusive updates and news about ARR in this group, but such
posts reduce the credibility. I really enjoyed the post, but as already been
pointed out, not everyone got the joke. So, I request Gopal Anandan to mention
in his post if it's a fun post.

Yup.

I think it also puts on a question mark on the credibility of this group itself
that several members acted like mouthpieces and kept on praising the song
endlessly and even criticized those who were criticizing the song since day
one. Some are like going that way.

Now, such members would say that liking or not liking a song is a personal
matter and they still like it. Well, it is, still there is a thing called
objectivity. When we agree that this group is considered a place to get
authentic information on ARR, and some members can't even tolerate a lovely
prank played by Gopal Anandan for that exact point, then we can't hide from the
fact that other people might be looking at this group to get authentic feedback
on the goodness of his songs, and all those got misguided by this group's
endless advertising Chiggy Wiggy and entire bullu.

The reason might be: We fans might like anything given by our man because we
love our man. It is normal human psychology. We might have convinced ourselves
that we are liking Chiggy Wiggy or blue on some strengths it has while ignoring
some down points it is having.

I hope members will learn from this and will try to be more objective in giving
their future reviews/ feedbacks on future releases of ARR.

Remember, wrong feebacks in this group must be presenting a wrong picture about
a song/ album to ARR himself if he is accessing the group. ARR needs truth.
Underved praising will harm ARR. Let's not only utter Satyamev Jayate, but also
practice it.

Re: [arr] ARR Concerts and the Importance of SOUND !

2009-10-14 Thread Aravind AM
There were a few minor issues, I accept
but according to me, it wasn't as bad as it is made out to be!

I was in the 1000 seating area, and each and every song was very clearly
audible including those minute nuances and those short mild flute bits in all
songs (which Naveen improvised), I could notice and enjoy those chutku sa
things in the songs...

But, since so many people are complaining, I'm thinking, probably, the speakers
on one side of the stage must've been faulty...

Because, I'm sure I didnt face the problems that've been mentioned bo many
people here

My friend called me yesterday and said the sound quality was

Khawaja was almost impossible to hear.. she was almost in tears!
I can imagine how frustrating it could have been. Someone needs to take this
seriously. its not fair on the fans and does not do any justice to Rahman's
music as well.

Afro Nisha was an initial title for the cue for a biking
sequence in the movie when the song is used. Later, in the final release, the
cue title was changed to Kuru Kuru Kan. That still doesn't explain what Afro
Nisha means, but I don't know any more. At least, it's not a singer who sounds
like AR or a new pseudonym for AR.

[arr] Illayaraja Songs in ARR Chennai Concert??!!

2009-10-08 Thread Aravind AM
Hi all,

In today's Dinakaran Chennai Supplement, there's a news item about ARR's Oct-11
Chennai concert where it is mentioned that songs of many composers including
Illayaraja will be performed in the concert!

Screenshot of the article from Dinakaran Epaper -
http://tinypic.com/r/2j2u890/4

No offence to IR, but I'm hoping this news is false and hoping this is a
goof-up by Dinakaran. I would rather attend any other concert if i want to
listen to other composer's songs... For me, an AR concert is something SPECIAL,
some thing RARE and something TO BE TREASURED, and it should feature ONLY songs
of our Boss... Those 3 hours are always MAGICAL, and each minute is PRECIOUS
for me. I would want it to be filled only with ARR and only ARR!

Gops/Vijay can you please confirm this is false news! ;)

Hi,

Most of the sites like Zoomin, Myntra which offer customised T-shirts do not
insist on minimum order. Even one can be printed.

During the friendship day offer period, I got two ARR tshirts printed  for me
from zoomin at Rs. 210 per tee (incl shipping)! And the quality was good...

Even without the offer, it would have cost me just Rs. 300 - 350 for a single

Why dont u try such sites.

To: arrahmanfans@yahoogroups.com

  Guys,

Just some reminders before we hear Blue in full. Please don't take this as
instruction, merely suggestions and reminders.

1) Blue is an action flick. Expect a lot of songs to be fast, catchy, upbeat,
Western in nature. ARR can't compose semi classical music with this type of
movie. Remember, film soundtracks are not private albums. ARR is very
particular about scoring music that fits well with a movie's theme, script,
situation.

2) ARR's songs grow. If at first you don't like, give them a chance.

3) Try to appreciate the hard work that goes into each of the tracks, even if
that track is not your favorite. Pay attention to small details in rhythm,
sound, variations, voice, etc to enhance enjoyment. Headphones will help

4) If someone in this group does not like the album or a song and disagrees
with you strongly, let that opinion be and don't try to argue and persuade that
person to like what you like. Expect a lot of mixed reactions to the music not
only from us here, but from reviews as well. Expect both good and bad reviews.
Expectations play a HUGE role in how we judge and perceive an ARR soundtrack,
esp. in the beginning.

5) The soundtrack preceding the current soundtrack can influence expectations
and judgement. Delhi 6 was a career high for Rahman in many people's opinions.
Some may expect another career high in Blue, which may not be possible given
the type of movie, director, etc.

6) You don't have to like every ARR song or album. Some songs are situational
and not everyone's cup of tea. ARR uses various genres of music and everyone
has different tastes. Again, let different opinions stand and try not to take
offense if someone disagrees with you and puts down Blue's music. Some may
change their minds later.

7) If Blue's music is not your thing, have faith in ARR. Every movie, every
soundtrack is different. Avoid comments like ARR has lost it If you don't
like this one, maybe you'll love the next one.

8) Remember, if everyone one of us liked every single song and every single
album from ARR, what a boring fan club we would be. Different strokes for
different folks and it's diversity in thought and opinion that makes the world
go round.

9) Try not to complain that ARR did not score Dil Se part II or Roja part II.
By now, you should know that ARR is always moving forwards, trying new
directions, styles, etc. THat's what makes him special. Sometimes his
experiments do well, sometimes not so well. Keep the big picture in mind. If
you miss the AR of old, you have lots of older albums to listen to. And don't
confuse nostalgia with quality.

10) Finally, remember how special ARR's music is and try to appreciate the
diversity in his music, even if you don't appreciate as much a particular
album. These moments where we await a new ARR soundtrack are special and won't
come again. Enjoy the ride, savor the excitement, roll with the let downs, and
have faith in ARRalways have faith!

Enjoy Blue!!!

Why are you all analysing a song by just seeing the promos
and small bits.. These sort of reviews and immediate conclusions are all
disasters. This not only disappoints others, but also ARR.

Thats what made him say once

You people listen to some promos in some cheap laptop headphones and start
reviewing the songs as bad. There is so much of hard work which goes behind a
song.

Lets pls wait for the full album to get released. Lets listen to it for a week
and if you still dont like it, then you can share whatever you want to in a
palatable manner.

them are in CD size i mean not exactly square.. so it looks a little out of
place.. so i make it in square which looks great in itunes..

Since ARR Music is the most prized collection in my library, i want it to be
with perfect album art, without any website watermark or logo..

so for all the ARR fans, here is the album art for the unreleased movie : BLUE

you can save these and when the audio released.. then can use it..

[arr] Athangarai Marame and the celebration of strings that it is

2009-08-20 Thread Aravind AM
Hi,

This piece was written by my friend Vani, who is a Rahman fan too :)
I'm sharing it with the group for the benefit of everyone.
So, here goes:

At the end of what I thought was a day so crazy that it makes me laugh
to think about it, I hereby write a note in praise of the song that
dramatically picked up my moods and made me smile, even at the end of a
racking 14-hour long day.

This post is an attempt to put in writing the hundreds (ok, no, dozens)
of lines that are speeding through my mind in one moment in praise of
the humble song from Kizhakku Cheemaiyile, that I’m making myself
listen to in repeat mode just so I don’t lose the mood to capture all
those crazy lines.

First, the strings in the beginning. Rahman teases you a bit, making
you wonder what the song is going to be like, and Mano’s voice does
complete justice – is it a gentle melody? A taunt? A song brimming with
love? Surprise (moondraam piraiye nee muzhu nilavaanadheppo!)? And then
the gentle strings just rush to strength towards the end and you can
literally feel the guitarist completely enjoying himself, grinning, and
just strumming the guitar in full joy. And the song tells you that it's
all of the above emotions - and more.

And Mano launches into the song – simply LOVE the pickup of the beat. Sheer
genius.

Just listen to the strings behind ‘Ulla sondham enna vittu pogaadhu’. Subtle,
and yet, brilliant.

And Sujatha joins in, her voice also doing perfect justice to the song,
responding beautifully to the tone and mood of Mano’s voice.

The guitar, meanwhile, joyfully cruises throughout, until Rahman jumps
in and croons his bit, as he is often wont to do… and after a punchy
pause, while in the background throughout, the guitar picks up again at
‘Kaagam thaan katthi ponaalum’ – simply love the turn it takes at the
end of ‘Un mugam paarka odi vandene’

Oh, oh, and also after Mano sings the pallavi again, just before the
second interlude, listen to that unexpected bit that surprises you!

Of course, look out for that casual, unexpected entry that the guitar
makes again when Sujatha starts wrapping up the song, and all through
while Mano takes on from her.

And just when you thought you couldn’t get enough of all this, Rahman
perfectly ends the song, crisply, with no unnecessary notes, just right!

Oh, ain’t I lucky to be enjoy such bliss from a tune so simple, yet so
brilliant! Hail music, hail Rahman, and hail God for creating him and
bestowing him with all this genius!!

Dear Ramesh,

Being diplomatic, and avoiding arguments is one thing! Not accepting the truth
when it is staring right on your face is another.

One may argue that the lyrics are suited for the characters of the movie...
But, if you've followed Tamil industry closely, you will know that attacking
people through song lyrics, is something IR has done in the past too. That's
his style. This is NOT the first time!

BTW, the song is not picturised on any characters of the movie, it is
picturised on IR himself! It's shot like a music video, having nothing
to do with the movie itself! Here's the link for the vid
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIztOkvuHTY

About IR criticising Ella Pugazhum - I dont need the media to tell me what it
is! It is crystal clear what IR is saying!

Such statements exist in Hinduism, in vedas and puranas too, where everything is
attributed to God...It is a to say I don't take credits for all my
achievements, it's all given to me by God...  It is not a matter of
philosophy, or beliefs Someone who claims to be so spiritual, whom everyone
calls a saint should very well know this and understand, whether he believes
in it or not! Even if he doesn't believe in it, do you think he should have
spoken on stage the way he did?
Do you think it is a mature comment, coming from a veteran of the stature of
IR? It is totally unwarranted and uncalled for! This is the point I'm trying to
impress upon.

I cannot believe we are still beating at this.

You should listen to the the song titled Ulagam Ippo written, composed and
sung by IR from the new album Azhagar Malai. IR's jealousy comes out clearly in
that. The song lyrics talks about how people leave the country for money and
that those people, though they may be rich, are mean and poor in his view
point! The lyrics further goes that world may change, people may go wherever,
but I'll stay here and serve the country.

The song lyrics are by Vaali. It seems appropriate for the movie ('Azhagar
Malai is about the egoistic and irate village heads and a
youngster trying to change their attitude').

It takes a creative mind to extrapolate this into inferring that IR is taking
a dig at ARR. Anyone doing so is conveniently forgetting that IR has also gone
abroad and worked/performed (his 1st Symphony conducted by John Scott
(London?), the concert in Italy, the Thiruvasagam symphony/oratorio in
Budapest...)

I can't read Tamil so I have no idea what the Kumudam article that Aravind
attached says. Pay attention to the context and the conclusion drawn. Don't
fall for the trap laid out by junk media.

The second comment about fame and God's gift is a matter of philosophy. ARR
believes in one thing and IR in another. So what? It's just like how no two
astrologers will ever agree on the same thing.

And why should it matter if a music artist is an egoist? Shouldn't you bother
only about the music? ARR is one of a kind--
we like him for his music and also his humility and the personal example he
sets for others. It is wrong to expect that every artist will be equally humble
and kind. I'll say that it's quite common that a lot of great artists have big
egos. That's part of what pushes them to excel.

Re: [arr] Ilayaraja takes a 'dig' at A R Rahman

2009-08-13 Thread Aravind AM
Hi,

While many of you were doubting the veracity of the cinesouth article, I had no
doubts IR had made those statements. Having been a hardcore Raja fan before
1992, and having followed all his interviews, I am certain he would make such
jealous statements. This is not something new for him. IR has so often in the
past made absolutely ridiculous speeches, obnoxiously irritating interviews
hurting so many people in the process. In particular, I can never forget one
particular interview of Raja, hosted by veteran TV reporter H.Ramakrishnan, in
late 90s in Doordarshan, in which Raja was at his irritating best, literally
tormenting the interviewer. There was such arrogance, I've never seen in any
celebrity. That was when Iost my respect for Raja, totally! How shocked I was
back then, seeing my icon (till then) behave in such an immature manner!

A few years back, Kumudam too had a feature which compiled some of his
speeches, showing how irritating his speeches become. Why do you think so many
top directors and lyricists broke up with him?

But, even I was waiting for more proof about the latest controversy, to write
to the group. Here it is - an article in Kumudam showing exactly what he said.
http://tinypic.com/r/65ubyf/3
He did make those statements, and I'm not surprised he did.

At first,  I didn't want to write on this thread, as Rahman himself said in his
oscar feliciation speech about fans fighting. Didn't he say that why should the
fans fight, when he is  so friendly with other everyone else? But, IR himself
is never party to such sentiments. IR is such a jealous individual, that he
said he has never heard of a song titled Chinna Chinna Aasai at a time when
Rahman was the toast of the nation!

You should listen to the the song titled Ulagam Ippo written, composed and
sung by IR from the new album Azhagar Malai. IR's jealousy comes out clearly in
that. The song lyrics talks about how people leave the country for money and
that those people, though they may be rich, are mean and poor in his view

but I'll stay here and serve the country.

Rahman's world fame has woken up the beast of jealousy against rahman which
was sleeping within him, for sometime now!

I'm not attacking him but merely retorting back, and clearing the misconception
that Raja is a saint!

IR may be a genius, he may be a great composer, but when it comes to modesty,
level-headedness and humility, he is nowhere near Rahman sir! This is cheapness
to the core!

I'm sure many are going to bounce on me, but I don't care. I'm writing this
from the bottom of my heart and I'm sure I'm not making a mistake!

[arr] Oru Kanavin Isai (ARR's biography in Vikatan) - Week 16 - Scans and Translation

2009-08-11 Thread Aravind AM
Cirilov, who is also the creative
director of Transilvania International Film festival, says “When I first
listened to Chaiyya Chaiyya, I felt very fresh! It was what one would
call ‘Ear Candy’. I didn’t like it instantly. But on repeated listening, it
created a fresh state of mind. It was a very modern music. It was a song which
blended Indian music with modern world music”.

Later, this same person listened to Lagaan songs and
became a huge fan of Rahman. He talks passionately about Rahman - “I know a lot
about bollywood music. But, one man took it to a new level single handedly, and
that was Rahman”.

Rahman’s style of developing a song layer by layer using
computers baffled the Bollywood composers. Some purists in music industry
criticized this style. Rahman responded – “We are in 21st Century.
Some do not want to leave their 19th century practices. I don’t
understand what’s wrong in infusing latest technology into music.

The computer which I got about 6 months back, takes 3 minutes
to make. The computer which I’ve got recently can be made in just 3 seconds.
World is moving so fast, shouldn’t we too run at the same pace? I can carry my
music on a small hard disk as I travel through out the world. I get a chance to
blend world music during those tours. Technology is like a huge beast. We
should understand how to tame it and bring it under our control. It took me two
years to ‘tame’ the music software and bring it under my control!”

True! Rahman doesn’t carry his studio alaong when he
travels. He just carries a small hard disk which has various software and his
music. Be it London, New York or Paris – wherever he goes, the hard disk
travels along. He can plug it onto a computer and start composing, and can send
the music as audio files to his Kodambakkam studio through email.

IT magazine Express Computing says Rahman is the most
knowledgeable Indian composer when it comes to latest in music and technology.
Rahman was the first to bid farewell to tapes used for recording. He’s also the
first composer to compose a song on his flight journey. He’s the one who turned
a recording studio to a technology park!

Apple Macs are his favourite. World over Apple computers are
the most preferred systems for many musicians. In Rahman’s studio, there are 12
Power Macs in his studio, 2 Power Book Laptops, and iBooks. (Rahman upgrades
his computers and music instruments frequently. So, these could be different
now!). A musical recording can be edited lakhs of times in these systems.
Rahman often says “This is not just a machine. It has an attitude of its own!”

Rahman, who currently uses Apple 3G processors, is soon
going to upgrade to the next generation. The systems in Rahman’s studio are not
networked. Each system is a kingdom on its own. The music processing that is
done on each system is then combined mixed in one system. Rahman himself has
designed this system, like an expert computer engineer.

Ok.. all this is technology. But, apart from this, Rahman
believes there’s one more factor, which is the secret of his success… What
could that be?

 that
goes in to creating the song after this. With just two basic tracks – rhythm
and voice – he needs to add layers, beautifying it. He needs to adorn it with
background pieces by instrumentalists, recording them in pieces and adding them.
He also needs to add effects using the electronic synthesizers. Then comes the
final mixing.

When the final product comes out, even the singer can’t
believe how he has created magic out starting with the simple voice and rhythm
tracks. All singers working with Rahman would have surely had this great
experience. This is Rahman’s music style!

 Week 14

“It took me several hours to digest the news. I’ve never

seen any other musician with so much energy!, said a shocked Rahman after

 Michael Jackson’s death.

After he won the Oscars, Rahman had met MJ and had spoken

with him for a few minutes. Jackson had danced a few steps for Rahman. He had

told Rahman that they should work together on a song for world peace â€

something like “We’re the world. If that had happened, the world would
 have

listened to another world-class song. During the ‘MJ and friends’ concert
 in

Munich, Rahman had worked with MJ †he’d composed a song and sung it in
 the

 concert.

During his childhood, Rahman was inspired by MJ. Post

Thriller, Rahman listened to all MJ songs and was mesmerized by them. The

spirituality in MJ’s voice impressed him. Many of Rahman’s songs like
 ‘Muqabla’

and ‘Maya Machindra’ had visuals inspired by MJ’s music videos (Remember

 the time).

There are many similarities between MJ and Rahman. Both of

them entered the music field at a young age, and tasted tremendous success.

They both have collaborated with world music artistes. Both of their songs
 take

time to sink in, and be liked. The reason for that being the minute nuances in

arrangements in their songs.  Many of

their songs are high pitched, and both can touch higher notes with ease. Both

of them converted to Islam †Dileep became Rahman; Michael became Mikhail.

The year was 1995 †the landmark year when Rahman’s music

was moving on to the next level. Director Shankar’s ‘Kadhalan’ was

dubbed into Hindi as ‘Hum se hai muqabla’. The Tamil versions of the

songs had already become huge hits in North India, but after it was dubbed, it

reached every nook and corner of the country.

In the same year, ‘Bombay’, yet another master piece

of Rahman got released in Tamil. Songs like ‘Humma Humma’,
 ‘Kannaalanae’,

‘Uyire’ and ‘Kuchi Kuchi Rakkamma’ became super hits.

Though Rahman had lent his voice for few short background

bits in ‘Chinna Chinna Aasai’ and ‘Úrvasi’, it was ‘Andha

Arabic Kadaloram’ in which Rahman debuted as a solo singer for a complete

song. That song in his sharp voice rocked the charts. During any public event,

Rahman would always be requested to sing this song, and he would shyly refuse.

(One thing to note here. Most orchestras avoid singing

Rahman’s fast numbers as they feel it is almost impossible to replicate on

stage, the effects that Rahman adds to the song in his hi-tech studio.)

In ‘Bombay’ album, Rahman had composed a very

important piece of music. That one piece raised the eyebrows of many world

musicians and made them wonder who’s this man! It was a complete flute-treat

(played by Naveen Kumar). It is the Bombay theme music. It was a supernatural,

haunting music, which served as the soul of the movie. The piece, which was
 the

background music for the riots scenes in the movie, mesmerized Bollywood

musicians too. An English musician of Indian origin, Talvin Singh, included

this theme music in his compilation, “Anokha: Soundz of the Asian

Underground. The western music world started getting familiar with

 A.R.Rahman.

Last Saturday, on 18'th July, RAHMANIA concert team of The
Wandering Souls celebrated their 6'th year in the AR RAHMAN University of
continuous Education by giving a CRISP and PROFESSIONAL performance of their
hit show RAHMANIA in Chinchwad city ( close to Pune ).

This time, the group had practiced quite a few new songs and used new
technology. For the first time we used 48 track DIGITAL mixer console with
linear-array speaker system, the next best available is the one they use for
the mega concerts like Jai Ho concert.

The group is led by Anmol Bhave, a renowned National Award winner Sound
Engineer and we also have two more sound Engineers in our team, Nikhil Mulay
and Pinak Agate, both will complete their Sound Engineering Degree from FTII
soon. Moreover the flautist Satyajit Kelkar is an accomplished Sound Designer
and owns his own Sound studio in Pune, so the emphasis on correct RAHMAN
sound is the backbone of all RAHMANIA shows.

The show started with Jaage Hai - from Guru, the full version, one of the
songs we attempted for the first time. The other new songs we performed were...

Nahin Saamne tu - Taal,

Genda Phool - Delhi 6,

Yeh Dilli hai meri jaan - Delhi 6,

Lukka Chuppi - RDB ( complete with Rahman-Lata Aalap ),

Ringa Ringa - SDM,

and a small medley of Tu Mera Dost hai - Yuvvraj + Guzarish - Ghajini and
one from JTYJN.

The group had taken lot of care and efforts in replicating the special ARR
SOUND. We played SITAR live on stage with Nahin Saamne tu Apart from
these, we had our usual hit numbers such as Chupke se Hasti Rahe tu from
Saathiya, Yunhi Chala chal from Swades, Khwaja Mere Khwaja from JA, Patriotic
Medley, Bombay theme and Tuhi Re from Bombay, Dilse Re and Ay Ajnabi from Dil
se, Chandralekha from Thiruda Thiruda and Maiyaa Maiyaa from Guru.

The show-stealers were certainly Lukka Chuppi / Genda Phool and Yeh Dilli hai
meri jaan .. virtually all songs were received with a request for
once-more and the group obliged by accepting a few of them.

As we are going closer and closer to the Rahman sound, we find that the
target resets and we find that we have to do a lot more to reach the new
position ... ARR's songs are so much multi-layered that the more deep you
go in it, the more new layers you find and what I appreciate about this group
is that they are extremely passionate about ARRahman's music and are extremely
loyal to their GURU in preserving the quality and freshness of the sound in
each of their performance.

All TWS artists, singers, musicians deserve full marks for attempting the most
difficult and challenging songs of ARR, and the group also delivered the
performance in style. I would mention here Parashar Joshi, who came in as a
last minute replacement due to accident to another singer and what a
performance Parashar gave ! Superb !

TWS has been invited by quite a few media / event management companies and
sponsors, almost 2 concerts per month and that's certainly a huge
encouragement for the group.

Almost all TWS members are on Rahman Fans Yahoo group, so we can certainly say
that this is an exclusive band of the Yahoo group ?

The Wandering Souls owes their 6 glorious and melodious years of existance to
AR Rahman and his loyal fans .THANK YOU !

With best regards

Dinesh Vaidya

[arr] Oru Kanavin Isai (ARR's biography in Vikatan) - Week 13 - Scans and Translation

2009-07-02 Thread Aravind AM
 for
many composers who effortlessly copied these tunes for their songs.

There’s a story about veteran composer R.D.Burman. In those
days when technologies like CDs, Internet, MP3 downloads and music TV channels
weren’t around, RDB would fly abroad and pick up the latest music discs from
there. Back home, he would listen to them and would make copies of those songs
with Hindi lyrics for Hindi films. The ever-popular Mehbooba song from Sholay
too is one such copied song.

In his early days, Rahman was inspired by music of ‘Ace of Base’ and Dr. Alban
(‘Telephone Mani Pol” song was similar in style to their
songs). But, Rahman moved away from all that completely.

(*** We all know that ARR and Dr. Alban used the same beat
samples for their song, which is the reason for the similarity. But, the
article does not mention it***)

There’s a term called Post-modernism. The concept is very
simple – If there are long-standing beliefs and conventions which are blindly
being followed, question them. Break the traditions by criticizing them. Let
new thoughts be born. Let creativity flow. – This is the principle.  The
concept had revolutionized every aspect
of the society like Literature, politics, cinema, sports, women-rights, arts
and economics. How can it not touch music?

Musicians like Bob Marley, Elvis Priestly, Beatles, Frank
Sinatra, Stevie Wonder, Santana, Bruce Springsten, Queen, Tracy Chapman
followed this concept and broke all the traditions and brought in new styles of
music. In a way, Illayaraja's use of folk/village based instruments like
Thaarai/thappattai can also be considered as post-modernism.

There’s a convention in Indian film music, which is,
following Pallavi-Charanam-Pallavi structure for all songs. Rahman broke this
long standing convention and brought in Post-modernism in to music. The hindi
film music industry provided a better platform for this. In 1994, noted
directors Subhash Ghai and Govind Nihlani had signed on Rahman as the composer
for their respective films. They’re directors with very modern outlook, and
Rahman wanted to bring in more changes in music in their films and started
composing for these films. But, very soon, those films were shelved, which
shook Rahman. That was when Ram Gopal Verma invited Rahman to compose for his
film.

Rangeela – That was the beginning of the magnificent all
India success story of A.R.Rahman.

Re: [arr] Re: Isai Aruvi Tamil Music Awards

2009-06-27 Thread Aravind AM

Isai Aruvi awards is such a poorly organised event, as I remember from the
previous year's show... It lacked professionalism totally...
Even last year, the nominees list was so badly messsed up (Hariharan and
Haricharans names interchanged many times, names of fils totally wrong etc),
which I mentioned in my mail to the organisers, but got no response and no
corrections... Even the way the show was conducted was so pathetic, that I feel
it is one event I will not look forward to, despite the list of celebs
attending it!

Carolyn - Thee Thee Thithikkum Thee (Thiruda Thiruda)

Thumba Raja - Thee Thee Thithikkum Thee (Thiruda Thiruda)

Thumba Raja plays Indian-percussion and is a regular in Rahman's team, and is
the father of Krishna Chetan, Rahman's keyboard player and programmer and the

I think this is his only song in which Thumba Raja was a singer.

Sivamani - Love check (Parthale Paravasam)

I think this was the only song he was credited as a singer. The thir-gidha-
tha bit in Vaaji Vaaji sounds like his voice, but am not sure as it is not
 credited!

[arr] Oru Kanavin Isai (ARR's biography in Vikatan) - Week 12 - Scans and Translation

2009-06-24 Thread Aravind AM
’ too became super hits.
Shankar had expected Chikku Bukku Rayile to create a mini festival each
time it was shown in theatres, and that is what happened. This album proved
that, not just melodies, but Rahman coulc give punching songs, which could rock
the entire country.

Rahman had then remarked – “Not just in high tech stereo
sets, but the songs should become popular even in tape recorders and radio sets
in small parota shops. Only then, I can reach the public”.

At a time when other music directors were giving a western
feel using Indian instruments, Rahman tried just the opposite – he gave Indian
music using western instruments. There’s no doubt that this was a musical
revolution. On this note, one thing has to be mentioned – Rahman was interested
in fast songs, but till this day, never once has he given a song, which if of
low-standards.

Post the success of Gentleman, Shankar made his next
movie - Kadhalan. Rahman had progressed to the next stage in music.
Carnatic singer Unni Krishnan’s debut film song ‘Énnavale adi ennavale’ won
the national award. Music fans were entranced by the lilting carnatic melody.
Rahman had then mentioned that it was there in Indian culture for more than
2000 years. A traditional carnatic tune, in Rahman’s state of the art recording
quality mesmerized everyone – especially the flute interlude.

‘Muqabla’ – Another song in that album was the sixer
that Rahman had hit then, to rock the whole country. Many of Rahman’s brilliant
tunes have been wasted on failed movies, with pathetic visuals. Very few
directors like Mani Ratnam and Shankar do justice to his music. The perfect
example for that is Muqabla.

The cowboy styled song, with astonishing graphics, vali’s
lyrics, and Prabhu Deva’s choreography became a rage all over India. Till then,
songs like Michael Jacksons ‘Thriller’, ‘Beat It’, inspired many composers and
directors. But, Muqabla was the song, which made many to copy it.

Hindi composers were shaken by this new sound from south,
and started copying Rahman’s tunes. These composers who are mockingly referred
to as ‘tunesmiths’ shamelessly copied Rahman’s tunes with minor changes.

‘Muqabla’ entered Limca Book of Records, as the most
popular song in India. Songs from albums like Indian, Jeans, Muthalvan, Thiruda
Thiruda and Duet, which followed were again shamelessly lifted in
Hindi. Rahman was shaken by this.

He felt that the only solution would be to enter Hindi film
industry directly. Ram Gopal Verma was then, looking for a new music director
for
his new film Rangeela. His friend Mani Ratnam recommened Rahman to him.

The victorious wild horse named Rahman, turned towards
Hindi.

Hi all,

Here are this week's scans

So, I've uploaded this week's scan in Photobucket too. Will upload the other
ones too, in photobucket and post later.

Week 11

Technology in music is as important as the music itself.

In those days, Indian music fans were longing to get crystal
clear sound quality in Indian music, which could only be experienced in western
songs. They’d got bored of listening to Indian music in mono-tones. Roja which
released with superior recording quality, and the they were all thrilled. They
wondered how Rahman brought about such a tremendous improvement in sound
quality.

Roja was dubbed into various languages, and was a huge
success everywhere. After 18 years of the release, it has been dubbed into
English for the international audience. One of the most important reasons for
this is A.R.Rahman.

“Singing with Rahman is always a new experience. Nothing is
ready when we go to recording. He keeps composing the basic chords and feeding
them. It will all be incomprehensible initially. But, within a few minutes, we
can feel the magic as we get transported to another world when listening to it
on headphones. His music inspires us to try new things. He gives complete
freedom to all musicians and singers, and picks and chooses from the best of
the recordings. I’ve not seen this technique being used by anyone else”, says
singer Srinivas.

Post the success of Roja, producers started queuing up in
front of Rahman’s house, to sign him up for their next projects. This was a new
experience for Rahman himself. He was overwhelmed by the reach of this medium.
He understood the power of film industry as it took his music to millions of
fans. He also realized whey Naushad kept advising him to enter the film
industry.

“I was happy that I could create a new sound pattern – a new
stamp for myself, in my movie itself. I believe that it is all God’s grace and
Mani sir’s guidance that have helped in introducing this style of music as
‘Rahman’s style’ to the music buffs”, says Rahman.

Mani Ratnam was elated by the stupendous success of Roja.
“When I signed up Rahman for Roja, my intention was not to uplift Rahman
or his career. All my thoughts were focused on the music for my film. The
sample music that he gave me was excellent. I didn’t think of the successes he
would get in future. The only thing, which struck me then, was that he was the
best person to compose music for Roja. I His new way of thinking, and his desire
to break the traditions and try new things impressed me. I was looking for some
one like that. He acted as a bridge between Indian music and the world
technology.

He didn’t accept the several offers that he got, after Roja.
He didn’t want to get into that usual routine followed in the film industry –
reach the studio by 8.30 am, and complete at least one pallavi by noon.
He wanted to bring in a new style in composing and recording.

In the west, most composers had a recording studio of their
own. Similarly, Rahman also had set up his own studio in his house, and he
started composing only from there. The musicians and singers who came there for
recordings, got a sweet surprise as they were not used to the new style of
recording. They were also astonished by Rahman’s simplicity and composure. The
freedom that he gave for the singers and instrumentalists, and the innovations
he brought about in composing and recording, were nothing short of a
revolution. Moreover, singers were thrilled to be recording at about 3 am in
the night.

Harini talks about her experience – “I was just a school kid
when I started singing, but he treated me with so much respect. He gave me so
much freedom and room for improvisations. Recording for him at midnight is an
unforgettable experience. I get a bit nervous when singing for other composers,
but with Rahman sir that has never been the case. I really enjoyed my music”

Rahman, who had captured the hearts of the youth, next
joined hands with another man who also captured the attention of the youth –
Director Shankar.

(To be continued)

2009-06-11 Thread Aravind AM
Thanks everyone!
And, I've posted scans of Week 8 which i missed out...

BTW, I just noticed that some typos and other errors have inadvertently crept
in, in my translation, as I didn't have time to proof read. Not just this week,
but in the previous weeks too. Sorry for that!

After the series is done, I plan to compile everything into a single PDF. I'll
make sure I remove all the errors in that final draft.

Week 10:

Throughout the history of Tamil film music, the trends have kept changing.
During one period, it was completely based on Carnatic music. This was the time
when brilliant singers like Thyagaraja Bhagavathar, PU Chinnappa, Kittappa,
T.R.Malalingam were themselves actors. The high-pitched carnatic songs gave way
to soft melodies on the arrival of Viswanathan- Ramamoorthy on the scene. The
duo gave us many timeless classics, in the voices of TMS, P Susheela, PB
Shrinivas, which make some people still say, “nothing can match those old
songs”.

Then came another genius, Ilayaraja. He brought in folk music in to Tamil film
music. Thousands of songs, in which he fused western classical with carnatic,
became the favourites of masses.

When Tamil film industry was waiting for the next generation of music, came
Rahman. He brought in a new digital revolution. He reached out to the entire
country through his music and attained world fame. ‘Roja’ proved to be a
perfect opening for everything that followed.

During his jingles days, Rahman had composed for many ad films of director
Amshan Kumar. He speaks about his experience with Rahman - “Many film music
composers considered ad jingles as something below their standards. They would
rather sit idle at home, rather than compose for ad films. During that period,
I heard of this brilliant young composer in Saamiyaar Madum, Ashok Nagar.
Electronic music was a new technology those days. I’d listened to such sharp
music only in Andrei Tarkovsky’s films. I was overjoyed when I listened to
music of such quality, from Dileep.

Our work usually began at 10 pm, and would go on till wee hours of the morning.
Once, the composing that started at 10 pm got completed only at 6 am next
morning. I came out of the studio, completely satisfied. I found Mani Ratnam
and singer Minimini waiting there. I didn’t realize then that they were waiting
to compose a song which would go on to become a world famous song!

I didn’t see Rahman making them wait, as a negative thing. It just showed his
sincerity and his dedication to complete each work to complete satisfaction. I
think, this dedication is what has taken him to such great heights.”

When Roja released, it swept everyone like a storm. Many years back,
Illayaraja’s song “Machaanai Paatheengala” created a wave in the industry.
After many years, Rahman managed a similar feat with his “Chinna Chinna Aasai”.

Rahman totally changed the way music was composed too. He didn’t have a
separate conductor and arranger, and didn’t write down notes for the
instrumentalists.

He completely knows each person’s talent. He gives them complete freedom, and
made them sing/play independently, and picks and chooses the best out of those
and completes his recordings.  The singers and the instrumentalists are usually
in the dark as to which one of the pieces performed by them would be chosen by
Rahman. He works like a talented weaver, weaving in multiple layers and
multiple colours.

Right from Rahman’s early days, Sound engineer H.Sridhar was Rahman’s right
hand. The recent death of this extremely talented technician affected Rahman
deeply. Along with Rahman, he created many technology revolutions in sound
recordings. He once remarked about Rahman’s music – “I knew Rahman even before
Roja happened. We would often meet and discuss about the new developments in
recording technology and music trends. According to me his secret of success is
that he considers each song as his first song. He would retire to his prayer
room before recording for a song. We would be astonished to see him completely
fresh and totally charged up after the prayer. I’ve never seen him as a
dictator. He would always respects the creativity

He would move out after explaining the basic idea, and they would play freely.
He would record everything, and use the best of those. ‘We shouldn’t rely on
just the technology. There should be soul in the music’, he would often say.”

Rahman is a techno-junkie. If you give him the latest headphone, within
minutes he would open it up in to parts and understand how it functions! The
same eagerness flowed on to his musical side, and made him keep thinking on how
to make recordings sound better.

After Roja, a majestic musical garden bloomed up for him.

in lots of effort for each song in his films. I’ve
noticed how he elevates a song which is 100%, to 400% with breath taking
visuals. So, I accepted the offer”

“I knew that there would be sky
high expectations on a composer instrocued by Mani Sir, and hence, there was
pressure on me! But, Mani was extremely friendly, and he brought out music from
me. I’d have composed hundreds of tunes. We selected the best out of those,
improvised on them…. He’s great!”

‘Roja’ album became a super hit
through out the country. For Dileep who was rocking the ad film music world
silently as an unknown composer, this was a pleasant shock. He was overwhelmed
that not just fans, but even co-musicians and co-composers came forward and
appreciated him. Though he had done so much of brilliant work for ad jingles
and many of his tunes were popular, public wasn’t aware who the composer was.
But all that changed, with Roja. If he had contemplated on whether to compose
for just twenty five thousand rupees, he wouldn’t have got such a grand
opening. When Rahman joined Mani’s camp, the whole world welcomed him with
love!

The super hit song from Roja –
Chinna Chinna Aasai – can be considered as the first Reggae song in tamil.
After the recording of this song, Dileep had recorded it on a cassette and
played it to his mom. How did she feel then?

Kareema Begum talks about it – “I
didn’t know much about musica. I knew only one thing – he was rising higher and
higher in the music industry, due to God’s grace. One day, he came up to me and
said ‘Ma, I’m going to compose for a tamil film. It’s a Mani Ratnam movie.
Listen to this song which I’ve composed.’ He then played Chinna Chinna
Aasai.  It was a happy song, but I
don’t know why tears started welling up in my eyes. Rahman was concerned, and
asked me what happened. I replied ‘Nothing…. The song is very good…. It moved
me… It did something!” The song I liked was later loved by the whole world! I
felt that he had started fulfilling his dad’s dreams, and this song was a
start!”

Chinna Chinna Aasai became
the ‘family song’ in many households, and Rahman won the Rajat Kamal Award –
the national award for best music – on debut!

That was the beginning of a new
era in Indian film music.

[arr] Oru Kanavin Isai (ARR's biography in Vikatan) - Week 8 - Translation

2009-05-27 Thread Aravind AM

Hi all,
Here's the translation of this week's article. I'll post the scans shortly.

Week 8

“I was suffering from inferiority
complex when I was Dileep. After I became Rahman, I felt as if I was born
again!” said Rahman once. But, after the conversion, he had to endure lot more
difficulties due to the fame he attained. One of those was the allegation that
he financed terrorists. Rahman had to give long explanations to quash the
rumours.

Post the conversion, if there was
one thing that interested Rahman apart from music, that was Islam philosophies.
He totally believed that his talent and all his successes were attributed only
to God. Wherever he traveled, he always carried the prayer mat along with him.
He never fails to complete his five prayers each day. He even has a small
prayer room in his recording studio. He has done the Haj pilgrimage twise.

On one hand, Rahman is a person
with deep faith in religion. On the other hand, he is very modern person with
respect to his musical thoughts. In his childhood days, he was attracted by
Michael Jackson’s music, dance and hairstyle. While he was playing for bands
like Nemesis and Roots, his attire, coolers and hairstyle were like that of a
pop-singer.

Roja released on 15 Aug, 1992. ‘Chinna
Chinna Aasai’ (Chhoti si aasha in Hindi) became the anthem in musical
circles. ‘Pudhu Vellai Mazhai’ (Yeh Haseen Vaadiyaan), ‘Thamizha
Thamizha’(Bharath hum ko), ‘Kadhal Rojaave’ (Roja Jaaneman) gave a new
musical experience to the music-buffs because of the superior recording quality
and digital sound. Soon after the audio launch, Rahman became famous throughout
the country.

In those days, composers normally
posed with a harmonium for press photos. Ilayaraja had posed with a guitar many
times. The small ‘kid’ who gave ‘Chinna Chinna Aasai’ smiled for the
cameras with a keyboard, and it was totally new!

There were many who said he was a
‘one film wonder’. But he followed it up with Yodhaa and Pudhiya
Mugam which had so much variety and freshness and also became huge hits.
(Many of his hardcore fans say Yodha was the first movie album composed by
Rahman, not Roja.) Gentleman, Gangmaster (Telugu) and SuperPolice (Telugu) which
followed, were also hits! Rahman showed the world that he was not a
one-film-wonder, but a trendsetter. A young fan following started forming, for
Rahman.

He stunned everyone suddenly,
wearing  modern attire, sporting long
locks of hair, carrying a national flag, and running on the desert sands
singing in ‘Maa Tujhe Salaam’ in high pitch! People were amazed that
Vande Mataram could also be made as a rock/pop music video. Sufi Maestro Ustad
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan rendered a song in the album. Rahman, who was a great fan
of Ustad ji, went to Pakistan and recorded the song with him. Apart from that
the other 7 songs were sung by Rahman himself, which was a sweet surprise for
his fans.

But on the other side, a case was
filed in the court claiming that Rahman had insulted the sacred Vande Mataram
with his techno music. Noted critic Subbudu mentioned that it is not ‘Vande
Mataram’, but ‘Vandhu Emaatharom’, which in tamil means “we come and
cheat”. Though the case was dismissed, these criticisms did affect Rahman.

Though Rahman had so many
successes in his young age itself, he was shaken by criticism coming from
unexpected quarters. Hindu Fundamentalist orgainsations claimed that Rahman was
insulting the hindu song Vande Mataram. A few Muslim fundamentalists criticized
him that, being a Hindu, he has elevated and popularized a Hindu song!

That was when government provided
security for Rahman, fearing threat to his life. All these totally ruffled
Rahman.

Then, he opened his heart out - “
God and religion are something personal to each one. Be it mosque, or temple or
church – it’s all within the heart. But, it has now been politicized. I’m
uncomfortable to have security guards around me all the time. It shows the lack
of trust on fellow human beings.

It is funny that  there are rumours that I’m funding
terrorists, when government itself is providing me security  as my life is
under threat from terrorists.

I help many social service organizations,
without discriminating them as Hindu, Muslim or Christian organizations. Those
are
very small amounts. Weapons can’t be bought with that amount!”

Then, another rumour sprang out that
he was forcing people close to him, to convert to Islam. Rahman brushed away
this
one too, with a smile.

“Look at people close to me – Noel,
Sridhar, Sivamani, Sivakumar! I’ve never spoken to them about religion. My
religion
is mine; their religion is theirs. That’s all”

Finally, all those ridiculous criticisms
and rumours which were started by some due to jealousy stopped. Rahman’s
thundering
successes silenced those who spread such rumours.

believer of astrology, accepted it and Dileep’s
name was changed to Abdul Rahman. Dileep remained with that name for a few
days. Veteran composer Naushad asked him to change his name slightly to ‘Alla
Rakha Rahman.’

Alla Rakha Rahman means one who
has got the blessings of Allah. Before Rahman, there was another famous
musician with the same name – Tabla exponent Ustad Allah Rakha Khan – father of
Tabla exponent Ustad Zakhir Hussain.

Dileep’s family converting to
Islam raised a few eyebrows in the industry. The mega success of Roja silenced
everyone. The name A.R.Rahman reached through out the country at lightning
speed! Dileep who became Allah Rakha Rahman, became a very devout Muslim, with
a deep respect for the religion.

“Each of the prayers is like
death. I feel as if I pass away during the prayer, and am born fresh again. My
mindy and body becomes totally fresh” , says Rahman.

Rahman who kept openly saying
that God’s blessings and Islam are the main reasons for his success, was faced
with a problem very soon. That was the accusation that he offered financial
help to Islamic terrorists!

[arr] COM songs not used for VTV

I got this news from a very reliable source, that all songs of VTV are fresh
songs.
The speculation on the group a few days back, that Gautam Menon may be using
which ARR composed for Chennaiyil Oru Mazhaikkaalam (which has been put on
hold) for VTV is not true!

[arr] COM delayed because of a lost laptop!

2009-05-19 Thread Aravind AM

--
Gautham Vasudev Menon’s Chennaiyil Oru Mazhaikalam (COM) went on floors in 2007
but is taking long to complete. Why’s that?

We found out the reason while talking to Nikita Thukral (of Saroja fame) who is
also part of the COM team. “Gautham’s laptop, in which he had the script, was
stolen. So, he has to write the climax all over again, which is taking time,”
she explained.

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Entertainment/Regional-Stars/Technical-delay-for-Vasudev-Menons-film/articleshow/4551531.cms

Apart from this, in today's Dinakaran interview, Nikita has mentioned that the
movie is not shelved; 60% of the shoot is complete and shooting will start
soon. She has also mentioned that couple of songs are yet to be completed by
Rahman.

Hi,

Margazhi poove was sung by Shoba Pazhaniappan, not by Vijay's mom Shoba
Chandrasekaran. ..

In the radio show Vairamuthu Neram, lyricist vairamuthu mentioned that an NRI
named Shoba approached him, and asked him if he could introduce her to Rahman.
She gave a demo CD, which VM passed on to Rahman. Rahman liked the voice and
called her for this song. This was her only song.

Ah! To even recollect ARR' s initial journey during early 90's, it gives me
immense pleasure and makes me sail back to those vintage days...where. .i
was unconciously inclined towards music only because of this wonder man, A R
Rahman..! He is the most primary reason for the transition towards Musical
world for me...:)

This time..i chose May Maadham..,  an album with its great melody and
Rahman's signature sheen its full glory and pomp.! I hold this album to be one
of ARR's most spectacular works ever..!!! But i am utterly disappointed by the
fact that this entire album did not do great among the masses. I guess...only
due to this fact, ARR thought of recreating the same magical score for Hindi
audiences in Love You Hamesha.. , but again failed to create sensation due to
the bad fate of the movie... :-(

1) Maarghazhi Poove   Shobha Chandrashekar

( Same as Ek Ladki Thi from Love You Hamesha)

Can anybody confirm me that this singer (Shobha) is the mother of
popular actor Vijay..??? If so, i wonder why she didnt continue her singing for
long time..? Nevertheless, comng to the song, it begins with a great flute
aalap with a royal touch of Kausalya Supraja Rama... - the Suprabhata
chantings- as its backdrops along with the techno beats by Rahman..!! Call it
fusion/ remixgets ur ears a great morning dose of pleasure..!! ! Perfect
ringtone for the mobile phonesloved across south india...even some parts of
North!! Shobha delivers a first class rendition and also the chorus part is
enchanting.. . Particularly, towards the end, Shobha and ARR gives us a
morning classical  feast to our ears!!!
An ever memorable Rahman's creation..!! !

 2) Palakkattu Machhanukku - Shahul Hameed, G V Prakash Kumar

(Same as Botal Tod De in Love You Hamesha)

The demised Shahul Hameed croons this song towards the fag end
of his life along with ARR's own nephew GV Prakash, who's into music these
days..!!! One yearns for Shahul to listen more n more after listening to these
songs. Its a very modern, hep, peppy, trendy song! ARR exhibits his passion for

[arr] ARR @ Kandhasamy Audio Launch!

2009-05-17 Thread Aravind AM
Hi all,

The audio launch of big budget tamil movie Kandhasamy, starring Vikram,
happened today in Chennai. ARR was the special guest. He was asked to unveil
the Marriage Hall owned by producer Kalaippuli Thaanu, which is to be donated
to the people of a village.

Here's the small clip.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwMRc6IpIhw

ARR was there for only a few minutes. The event was very poorly organised, and
there was utter chaos. The stage was filled with so many people. ARR unveiled
the plaque and left before the actual audio launch function. Other celebrities,
like Vikram, were invited to the stage only after ARR left!

Re: [arr] Revisiting May Maadham Album (1994)

2009-05-15 Thread Aravind AM
Hi,

Margazhi poove was sung by Shoba Pazhaniappan, not by Vijay's mom Shoba
Chandrasekaran...

Ah! To even recollect ARR' s initial journey during early 90's, it gives me
immense pleasure and makes me sail back to those vintage days..where. .i
was unconciously inclined towards music only because of this wonder man, A R

ARR exhibits his passion for
technology and western instruments in this song so clearly that one can
picturise by hearing.!! GV Prakash, with his very shrill and kiddish voice
provides a naughty atmosphere.
Vintage Techno Rahman at his Best

3) Madrasa Sutthi Paarka - Swarnalatha, Shahul Hameed, Manorama

Dr r .Drio Na Drio Drio... Thus
goes the ever chirpy and every witty Manorama, the senior most Comedienne of
Southern Cinema. Thanks to ARR a million times...for having used her voice. The
highly acclaimed Swarnalatha begins her lines with an intention to roam around
the Madras city...great easy-go rendition by her...!! Shahul Hameed and even
GVP makes a cameo in the lines..All- in-all hero. Manorama brings up a
great wittyness to the ARR tunes...!!
    A great jolly-go-happy song..!!!

4) En Mel Vizhunda P. Jayachandran , Chitra

(Same as Gupchup Baatein from Love You Hamesha)

The legendary singers Chitra and Jayachandran unite to leave
behind a resplendent melody which also doubles as a lullaby. A perfect bed time
song to make your senses ease and relax after a tiresome day. Rahman's lillting
tunes soothes us to the core with Naveen's ever soothing flute piece, a
magnanimous Sitar piece and the ever inspiring rendition by the singer duo.
Vairamuttu's lines again shines as bright as diamond particularly in the
Antaras...Mannai Thirandaal Neer Irukkum...En Manadhai Thirandaal Nee
Iruppai... Absolute Wonder
A stunning melody alias lullaby...!! !

5) Aadipparu Mangattha - Malgudi Shubha, Sunita Rao, GV Prakash Kumar

The Paree Hu Main.. girl Sunita Rao makes her Tamil Debut with this
racy song about a local game involving the playing cards..!! Malgudi Shubha, as
usual n as expected provides a raunchy, rustic touch to this number. GVP mouths
few lines for the boy in the film. Though not  a very very memorable song
