Re: [arr] Fans hear my cry for ARR....read this!!!
Hi Krishna, Abhi all ARR fans, I agree with both of u. Like Krishna, even I try desperately to make my colleagues listen to ARR music. But I don't beg them to listen to his songs. I make them observe the intricate orchestration that ARR always uses. I make them observe the variety of sounds that ARR uses in his music. I try to help them understand that while other MDs' follow a trend , ARR sets a trend for others to follow. I don't care what the world thinks about his music. I don't care if he composes more Tamil or Hindi songs. In fact I can't understand Tamil, but like anyone of u guys I await eagerly for his new releases no matter what the language, as ARR himself says MUSIC HAS NO BARRIERS. Krishna u are right when u say that an original tune takes time to evolve, but why do u want ARR to compose like he did when he was trying to establish himself. By composing like he did before how could u overlook the fact that ARR will not be able to deliver those innovative flute, or the innovative music betweeen songs. By doing so he is going to be like any other ordinary MDs. He is never going to be the same ARR we love to hear. He will not be able to deliver those new surprises we long to hear. I think ARR has evolved as a MD. His music delivers new sounds with every song. Why are we feeling so threatened when many of his songs go unnoticed. I don't care if others like it or not we will always listen to ARR's music . We must just pity the people who r missing out on his valuable songs. And please please don't write any letters to ARR asking him to change his style of music. I love his music the surprises his music offers with every album. Lets be proud of ARR enjoy the NEW YEAR. Three songs composed by ARR have been nominated for the OSCARS. This is reason enough to celebrate. Lets party!!! -Sunil --- In arrahmanfans@yahoogroups.com, ar rahman djs [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: hi frens. (Srinivasa Abilash) thx 4 ur reply. i hope that krishna had noticed our meaning. Kumar AR Rahman DJs Malaysia V SRINIVASA KRISHNAN [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi, Kumar's words are right. Whether, an ARR track b'comes a hit or flap, we can notice a fresh instrumentation in it. The flap may be coz of the director, who is responsible for making a song to be hit, in terms of choreography, location, As Kumar said, the Thazhuvudhu Nazhuvudhu song is very good, a different track from our Boss's other songs. Even Maza Maza has the same feeling. The only reason, our Boss's music is getting a very light fade, coz he is not composing for more Tamil movies. Once, our Boss, is the only MD to give pure Western and fusion in Tamil Films. Now, the trend has changed. Many new guys evolve as MDs, including Yuvan, and give Westernized touch (according to their thinking - they give. But actually - they are still trying) to Tamil Music. But, our Boss is sturdy in his path. He is the only MD who gives quality and innovative music. No one can make fusion music other than our Boss. In Remix side, all other MDs are simply lifting or remixing the tracks. Just compare En aasai Mythili, Aasai Nooru Vagai, . with the only one remix from our Boss - Thottaal Poo Malarum. This single track will beat all other remix tracks in the Tamil music. Can they give an old song, a very new feel, without changing the song's beauty? Instead, the guys, just add techno kinda music, with the same old song playing behind or the same song sung by an artist. This remix can be done by anyone who is having a music software. Our Boss is always the King. Also, I met a guy two days back. He is not known to me before. But while talking with him, I showed him a different pic of our Boss in my mobile and asked him to identify. He starred at the photo for few seconds and replied me IVARAI THERIYALAINA INDHA ULAGATHULA UYIRODA IRUNDHU PRAYOJANAM ILLAI ! IVARDHAAN NAMMA THALAIVAR AR RAHMAN ! . I was very much excited to hear this from him. Will any other MD, get such recognition ? Then, why are you worrying, Krishna. Waiting for Sivaji Audio. ARR always rocks. Long Live ARR. [arr]: ARR on CNBC Young Turks
Hi Guys, There was a small programme on ARR on CNBC's Young Turks. It was an old footage shot in the year 2002. Young turks is a programme that explores the achievements of Young Indians. They showed ARR singing Vellai Pookal in front of his fans probably in Chennai, then they showed ARR talking about music. It was just a 5 minutes programme. Sorry I could not inform u guys before hand , I myself saw it unexpectedly when I was switching channels. I did not write this mail to make u guys feel envious. I wrote it because usually in this programme (as far as I have seen), they usually show about youngsters who have excelled in Business or in the corporate world. So a small programme on ARR was all the more unexpected . Most of u might have watched it before itself coz they flashed year 2002 on the screen.

[arr] Zubeida song Pyaara sa gaon
Hi guys, I was listening to this song Pyaara sa gaon from the movie Zubeida. At around 02:27 minutes after the song starts, there is a flute music which lasts for some 20-25 secs ... This flute music has very much similarity with the flute music played as a BGM in Rehna hai tere dil mein. I am not sure about this coz I saw RHTDM long time back. I think this music comes when Madhavan Diya are sitting at Madhvan's favourite place in MUMBAI. -Sunil

My favourite song is Tere Bina. Tere Bina has great lyrics with magical voice of ARR coupled with that of new comer Chinmayee's. Also the soothing music takes u completly to a new world. The alaap in between the song also is very catchy. A similar alaap which ARR had last sung in lukka Chuppi in RDB. The over all album is GR8!!! [arr]: Dham Dhara tune
Hi guys , I was listening to RDB BGM I observed very closely the BGM when the Boys enter the radio station. Wat I observed was that the tune was totally different from that of DHAM DHARA DHAM. Wat do u guys think!!! Anybody with some music knowledge can shed some light into this.

Hi Murali, I am really happy that u r so much concerned about ARR. But I think we as ARR fans don't need to be scared or threatened by any other MD's be it Harris Jayraj or Yuvan. Re: Re: [arr] Anyone want to laugh?
Hi guys, I really don't agree with this guy. let me take from the first point that Rahman must take time to create melodious numbers. What I feel is that the music depends on the situation in the movie. You can't expect a melodious number in place of 'Dhakka Laga Bhukka' in Yuva. The situation demands a youthful enthusiastic and exciting music which Rahman has done successfully. Then that ARR must take renowned singers. Come on man , even the renowned singers would not have been what they are now had they not been given a chance to sing in movies. ARR is just trying to introduce new singers and give them a chance to exhibit their tallent. And about composing music for periodic movies. I think ARR has composed the best music for period movies 1947, Bose etc.. and even LAGAAN which was nominated for the OSCARS. So I really feel ARR has the same old magic and this year belongs to him. On Thu, 12 Jan 2006 Triply R. wrote : This guy may not be well-regarded in some other forum, but I have to agree with a couple of his points: 1) He has to give more time to create melodious music instread of this rap and western tren. We want Jiya Jale, Kehna Hai Kya over Khalbali type of songs. Absolutely. I am sick of hearing blaze or someone rapping over the songs. Paatshaala and Khalbali and songs like that really pull it down. Even the title song is a disappointment. When Daler Mehendi harped on and on about how he sang the entire song in 5 minutes, our suspicions should have been raised. The sad part is that Rahman himself seems to have taken just another 5 minutes to create the magic of the song after he has the singers recorded. The melody number Tum Bin Bataye has some promising instrumentation but seems too cliched and tries too hard to be a melody number. I like the organ which sounds like a chorus chanting during the verses, but the rest of the song is just meh. 2) He has to take well know renowned singers to make his songs more meaningfull. He has some vaugue thinking that only music directors are powerfull and singers are non entity. Both md and singers have contribution to make. When you take unknown singers you are actually letting people not to buy your albums. I wouldn't agree with this. The more reknown singers in this album are Daler Mehendi and Lata Mangeshkar and they were the weakest singers on the album. The newer voices are really better. And none of them tried to use an anglisized accent like Shaan in his Mohabbat hai Mirchi song. I just cant stand that. 3) He has to tell his lyricists to write something which people can understand not something like Pathshala or Dakka laga bukka. I felt the same thing. The lyrics of Paatshaala sounded too much like those badly dubbed songs from his Prabhu Deva era. If the album's claim to the charts is this song, I really dont have much hope for it's success. But Koon Chala and even the lyrics of the title song are pretty neat. And Lalkaar has good lyrics too. It's just the supposedly chartbusters like Paatshaala that have cheesy, if not enjoyable, lyrics. 4) Dont do period films. He is himself saying he is done with it but again taking assignments for it. Well, besides Akbar Jodha and possibly Buddha, I cant think of any other period films he is signed up for. Maybe the mirage that is Mahabharatha. But seriously it doesn't make a difference. He can really create great period music like Iruvar and 1947. Right now, it's his contemparary work that seems to be suffering, like RDB and Anbae Aayuriye. He has to correct the above otherwise none of his album going to reach the top 10. Except Swades and Yuva none of the last 9 albums even reached 5 lakhs unit sell. For ARR album usually it picks in West and South. But now West has also rejected it. I really hope the JoK rocks. I dont have much hope with Shivaji, cos though Shankar albums become hits (which, I agree, Rahman really needs badly), he seems to get the worst out of his music directors. Indian, Jeans and Mudalvan were really weak Rahman albums with Boys just rising a little above these. And Aniyan is possibly Harris Jayaraj's worst album. Pity, cos he is amazing too. So, at the risk of not being highly regarded with this group, I have to agree with this guy on a couple of points. __ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Re: Re: [arr] What does the weak exposure of music of Rang De Basanti prove ?
Hi Dorai Swamy, I don't agree with you. The fact that you didn't find RDB that good when compared to Alaipayuthey or Kandokondain Kandokondain was may be because at that time the kind of music that ARR composed was new and fresh when compared to music composed at those times. But now this kind of music has become common with all other music director's copying AR Rahman's music or using similar beats. But you must be proud that ARR is still trying do something new and innovative. In due course of time I am sure that you and all other listener's will find RDB exciting. ARR himself is to blame for the high standards he set for himself in his intial years. Sadly I think he is not able to do that now. His golden period where everything he touched turned gold ..seemed to end after AlaiPayuthey and KK, 2 magnificient albums that released so close to each other. After that he did produce gems like Bose, Meenaxi .. but he couldnt strike chord with the general public. And that matters a lot. At one end we have the Music professionals who make comments which strive to undermine his musical genius, while during his hey days heaped praise on his abilities, ofcourse there were Old timers who had criticised him from his early days but I am talking about the current crop who are doing their best to discredit him now. At other end we have music lovers if you call them so (I know it sound s pretty condescending as if I am being very biased...but it is not so), who say that his music is repetiive his creativity is limited okay some songs were good but that doesnt mean he is great he is not versatle...look at RD burman etc. The music loving public who used to buy the album just by seeing his name in the late 90's are not opening up and buying his music as they used to do so and therby contributing to the decline. From what I understand from my experience and I am not any professional just a layman who can feel and experience good music, and judge what is a creation of greatness, what is mediocre, what is ephemeral. Just like other members I just believe in my instincts to judge music. Indian public has been fed on similar kind of popular music since the LP records started selling here. All the songs confirm to some Basic rules, have a defined structure and were inspired by the Classical musics of different era...modified and downgraded so that the general public can enjoy them. That is the only bit of innovation they did, they made music in such a way that it appeals to the common man and he came to expect all the songs to follow similar standards, and in this limited setup many great music pieces have come which have been of great artistic and commercial success. The only musicians who tried to do some sort of innovation to this setup was RD Burman and OP Nayyar and probably few others. Their music was hit and apprecaited but nobody would have called them great musicians. From what I have seen RD Burman's became recognized as a great Music director since his death, as the industry found his output was of remixable quality which can appeal to the current generations. This infact grew his popularity and made people like me end up buying all the available collection of his original song currently existing in market. In this kind of setup ARR had set in and brought in an entirely different musical experience to the music loving public. He defined and created something called Individual style in which the musician is recognized just by listening to the music. Though this would be a bare minimum in other places as just by listening to a small sample people were able to judge whether the song was by The WHo, Pink Floyd, Queen, Led Zeppelin etc else, this ability became something special here. ARR's popularity and his musical successes grew and he seemed to garner all

Re: RE: [arr] A SERIOUS DOUBT
Hi Anuj, I totally agree with you. Its really very sad that a majority of Indian listener's like music that's stolen from English songs. And songs like 'jhalak dikhlaja' have nothing special in them. I have been a fan of Rahman's for many years now and I have liked his work in all his movies. Those who don't like his work have no taste for good music. I personally loved RDB songs. No other music director as far as I know of has ever composed music that expresses a mother-son relationship (lukka chuppi) or a patriotic song better than AR RAHMAN. So no matter whether his music is in the top or bottom of the chart busters , his music is always the best to me and always special to me. I hope all of you agree with me. -Sunil On Sat, 07 Jan 2006 AROULMARIANADIN JEAN PAUL wrote : Exactly, I agree with you! I was always questionning myself!! This is real discriminations! Anujit [EMAIL PROTECTED] a écrit : Hi all, i really have a serious doubt and would like to ask the viewpoints of the esteemed members of this group. it has been nearly 3 weeks that RDB released but still i find it's songs languishing at the number 5,6 or even worse below 10th spots on a number of countdown shows except bollyvista.com. even worse in one of the radio city or red fm programs i heard RDB is at number 23 spot. i really fail to understand why this kind of discrimination when it comes to the maestro's music. of late it has been found that some unacceptable trash compositions of the likes of himmesh (especially his nasal voice),pritam, anu malik, nadeem shravan get so much importance and are dubbed as absolute chartbusters.what a shame since either the songs are copied or just remixed versions of older songs like bluffmaster. i also fail to understand what does this album lack? it has an absolute heavy duty bhangra number that too in a unique style of rahman,an absolute masterpiece in the form of luka chuppi,a youthful number paathshaala,a lilting melody tu bin bataaye,an inspiritional track khoon chala,a discotheque track khalbali,an awesome compostiton roobaroo..what else can one ask for yaar? and still i find songs like jhalak dikhlaaja of himesh topping the charts which is a heavily sufi inspired track i guess with heavy duty beats...recently this discrimination has been more...but why??just because rahman has chosen to do some off beat movies like bose, swades, meenaxi etc..that's why i feel he has been overlooked in the countdowns..believe me the more 1 song stays at the top the more the film, the song gets popularity and people go on buying it's music..but that is not the case for RDB.. thts why i feel the sales have not yet started booming..imagine a track like right here right now staying at the top of the charts and a song like luka chuppi is at the bottom..it really gives me a sad feeling and i pity the listeners and the so called judges of these songs...who choose to avoid these memorable compositions..i know it is a long post but plz do post ur thoughts on it... at the same time i noticed that no song in RDB has an antara mukhra type of composition which no other MD can even dream of composing.. Re: [arr] Tamil songs
Hi , This is Sunil. I am new to this group. I totally agree with you . i stay in MUMBAI but basically from KARNATAKA and I have observed the same here. I am a huge fan of AR Rahman and have listened to all his Tamil, Hindi as well as Telugu songs though I don't understand Tamil and Telugu. All I cansay is that those who do not listen to AR Rahman songs are missing out on some very soulful music. We must just pity them for this. Bye On Wed, 21 Dec 2005 mmparthi2003 wrote : I just experience this with my friends but i dont knwo whether its true with everybody out there so dont kill me for this argument... As a Tamilan I listen to both Tamil and Hindi and any language compositions by ARR or any other music director as long as the songs appeal to me... I dont understand any other language excpet Tamil and English but I still listen to other language songs especially Hindi. But when I speak with my Hindi or North Indian friends they simply dont care about tamil songs or any other songs from the southWhether its a genius like rehman or any other music director they dont give much attention to tamil songs even if they are extremly good... But later if those songs are dubbed into hindi they really enjoy it and claim it is an hindi song and they also mention it was a hindi song that was dubbed into tamil... I am not racist or anything its simply an observation rather than an acusation... i just want to know why hindi speaking people dont give much attention to good tamil songs... Guys PLEASE DONT KILL ME FOR THISIAM NOT SAYING U GUYS ARE RACIST OR ANYTHING ITS SIMPLY A THOUGHT! Explore, Experience, Enjoy A.R.Rahman - The Man, The Music, The Magic.
