Hi,

  
  While installing HelpDesk 6.0 (base setup) on a 
  production server,I'm getting the following error :
  
  Setup is currently installing Remedy Object Store 
  components..."Failed to load prerequisite 
  applications."
  
  Environment : Windows 2003 Server, 2GB RAM , 13 GB 
  free Hard Disk space, ARS 6.3 Patch 17, Helpdesk 6.0 (Not yet 
  licensed.)
  
  ARS 
  6.3 Patch 17 installation was successful. Able to connect to Remedy using User 
  and Admin tools. But Helpdesk installation is failing with the above error 
  message.
  
  Please help torectify this and install 
  successfully.
  
  I'm 
  installing sample data also with Helpdesk. When I used the same files to 
  install on an unlicensed development server, there were no such 
  errors.

Hi George,

we patched to #18, let's see if that will help. We also applied one
patch at the Win2k3 box.

I'm quite sure that it is load related, as it only happens
(infrequently, like very other week) at Nafta operation times, which are
using the web very much ... seems like US folks like web things :-)

After all, found the bug SW00240706 at the Remedy Product Defects and
status is Work in Progress. That seems to be what we are facing.

Are you sure that this problem is caused by IIS6? Which patch of the
6.3 Midtier are you running? How often does this occur - might it be
related to the load on the Midtier server?

 we are running with Window Server 2003 SP1, IIS6 and Remedy v6.3.

 At MidTier we are facing the RPC Procedure unavailable issue from
time to
 time ... when running a Google search I noticed some posting that said

 when running the patcher and applying all available fixes, that the

 Unfortunately we can't do that with application fixes and therefore
have to
 name specific Hotfix / KB entries which fix that behaviour and can
then
 apply this specific patch.

 I was wondering if anyone has more insights on that error, or may even

 which hotfix needs to be applied for fixing this RPC failure.

 The ones I have digged up so far (but not installed yet) are these :

maybe I was not clear enough.
The problem is that I don't want my email engine to be stopped.
I'd like to get incoming emails. Therefore I would also like not to 
disable sendmail.

What I would like is not sending outgoing emails.
That was working fine for months. The email engine was running and only 
the Outgoing emails was disabled.

I was getting incoming emails and nothing was sent out.

The other day I noticed that the email engine was down.
I started it while the Outgoing was still disabled. I could check this 
through the User tool.

However people got emails from my platform.
So my question is how can this be ?
Is anybody aware of such problem with the email engine ?
Has anybody experience such a curiosity ?
Is there soemthing else to check in some config file ?

You did not state which platform you are on, but I know of 
another method, under UNIX that will also stop mail from being sent

because this email engine was sending out emails.


But when I had a look into the arusertool at AR System Email 
Mailbox Configuration for the Outgoing entry I could see it is disabled.


So could anyone give a help/idea/information/suggestion on how 
this could had happend ?

Hi,

If you disable the outgoing mailbox(es) and then restart the Email Engine
(restart Service or kill the email daemon process), it should not send any
emails.

To get it to work, 
simply comment out the following line in the getListEntryBlocks() method in the 
JavaDriver.java file:

Add a new line below 
it:

Your Java driver 
program should compile  run afterwards.

Is it possible that itisa funky cache thing.Maybe you should try enabling the mailbox, cycle the email engine, then disable the mailbox, and cycle the email engine again.

I don't think it would hurt.

Also, are you sure the e-mails going out are actaully going through that mailbox. Is it possible that they are actually going through a different outgoing mailbox?

Page Field

Hi,

We are using ARS 6.3 with IBM Websphere. I have a page holder field with 15 
pages (don't ask me why so many). Well on the user tool the page field looks 
fine  with tha tabs in multiple rows. But on the web (we use ie) it shows as 
one big line of tabs (going across the form)

Any clue what should be done?

Thiswill recycle the cache. 

Also note that there is a setting in your emaildeamon.pproerites file that controls the caching interval. The defauls is 30 minutes

Make the page holder wider?
Push some of the tabs into page holders on one or more of the outer
page holder tabs?
Invent a workflow way to scroll throw the tabs by hiding the tab on
the left and unhidding the next tab on the right? (and the reverse
direction too)

The GUI of multiple rows of tabs (and how they work) is a very
inconsistent thing in the computing universe. Browsers do the simple
thing and show it as one row.

logging turned on and this message is being shown. But I have never

Shawn
Remedy provide a 'back up' of the Home Page for you in the
installation directory. Look in the Samples directory, which is within
the ARServer directory of the installation. If you are a Windows site
then it will probably be found in the path:

  C:\Program Files\AR System\ARServer\Samples\en

(presuming you want the English language version!) Look for a file
named HomePage.def.

Qualifications in .NET API are SQL-like
and are of same format/grammar as that of AR System Advanced Query bar in User
Tool. One exception being User Tool handles qualifications expressed in terms
of Field screen labels, where as other typical API programs including the .NET
API work fool-proof way when qualifications are expressed in terms of field ids
or field DB names (not the display labels). 



Following are 3 example qualifications:



1 = 2

SomeFieldName  3 AND 1
LIKE %David%

1  ($TIMESTAMP$ - (2
* 24 * 60 * 60))



Where 1 is a field id; SomeFieldName
is the DB name of a field. As you can see field id/names are single quoted,
string values are double quoted, the qualification can include computational
expressions (like 2 * 24), can use AR supported keywords (with the
syntax of $XXX$) and several conditions can be combined using AND/OR/NOT etc
operators to build more complex qualifications.

arserverd is dying.  Turn on the api and filter logs on and find out
what the last call was before each crash.  This shoudl give an
indication.  Find the easiest way to get the last event is to set the
logs to create a backup, then just view the *.bak log file after the
server comes back up.  This can be from simple little things like
misused currency fields, corrupted form defs, etc.  The key is to find
where it is happening and correct it.

same very high-end machine). We had escalated this to Oracle also to check
any thing on the DB level, but that is ruled out.  BMC support is suggesting
us to go to Patch 18, but we are a bit skeptical about this.  We were
earlier on Patch 16 and were getting this error and BMC asked us to upgrade
to Patch 17 to fix this.  Even after going to Patch 17, we continue to have
this nightmare.

The only thing that none of these methods will catch is an advanced
set characteristics action.  Be careful when deleting the menus, as
you may inadertantly remove something that is indeed being used.

Also set the parameters for logging server events in the admin tool.
When it crashes it should push an entry into the server event form.
From this you should be able to look up the event code in one of the
manuals. Sorry I forget exactly which manual. It may assist with
additional information. 

In my past experiences I have found
1) Workflow can cause this. Maybe direct SQL calls to the database.
2) I have also seen a bad network card causing an interruption in
network
   connection.
3) I had one client that had an issue with a process that was running
   on the database Oracle that was locking the process and causing
this to
   happen on a hourly and nightly basis.

I know this is kind of vague, just things I have experienced.

I have stumbled into a condition for our dev server that could be what
your seeing. Basically if an authenticated user (to the Mid-Tier)
manages to re-authenticate in a strange way it can cause the ARS
server to crash. The best way I can describe this would be something
like the following (from what I have seen happen here.)

1) User logs in but home page fails to load completely. (unknown
reason as to why.)
2) User refreshes browser and ends up at the Login page.
3) I see this my ARERR log:

Look at the arerror.log file to see what is causing this error.
I doubt that this is an Oracle problem, but you never know.

Remedy vs Footprints

Hey folks -
I'm about to upgrade from HD 5.5 to 5.6, and I'd like to save some time
by using the 'ardisabled' utility to restore customizations to disabled
workflow, but it doesn't work. I've searched the ARSList archives, and
all I found were several other folks asking if anyone's gotten it to
work, so I'm asking again:

Has anyone gotten this seemingly useful utility to actually work?

According to the doc, in prompt mode it's supposed to build a list of
servers and ask me to select one. In fact, it prompts me for the server
name, then reports 
 A server name must be supplied in the control record (ARERR 150)

Error 623

Hey all,

We are using Remedy 6.3 and have users authenticate to their Active 
Directory accounts and Windows domains by leaving the password fields in 
their User form blank.  We have a user who cannot login to Remedy unless 
we supply a password into her password field in the User form.  Everyong 
else logs in fine.  Her A/D account appears perfectly normal on our 
system, so that doesn't appear to be the problem.  When she tries to login 
when there's no password in her User profile, she gets Error 623: 
Authentication Failed.

We had her change her password, and it's not working at all with Remedy, 
though she can login to other parts of our system with her A/D account 
with no problem.

Has anybody experienced this before and found any causes?

Completely uninstall ServletExex and the mid-tier. 

Use the attached document to install ServletExec AS.  Download the new 
version from the New Atlanta website.  

Install the mid-tier.  When prompted for Select JSP Engine, select 
Other.  It will not work unless you select other.

ServletExec AS 5.0 before re-running the Mid-Tier installation. 
Some of the possible errors are as follows:
• Installation runs fine, but “Service Unavailable” message when 
resolving http://localhost
• Installation runs with error “Servlet Exec configuration files 
were not found.  Please refer to the installation guide for information on 
updating these manually.”
S O L U T I O N

First be sure to check that all permissions have been granted accordingly 
such that the guest Internet user and the Application Pool default user 
has read/write/execute permissions to the following directories.  After 
making the changes, restart the IIS Admin service.
1. Default directory for scripts for IIS 6.0 – normally 
c:\InetPub\Scripts
2. Installation directory for ServletExec AS – normally c:\Program 
Files\New Atlanta\ ServletExec AS
If your servername is TEST01, then your guest Internet User is typically 
IUSR_TEST01.  Also, the Application Pool default user is typically NETWORK 
SERVICE.  If your Windows Administrator has made changes, please see that 
person to figure whom these users are.
If this doesn’t resolve the issue, uninstall ServletExec 5.6 ISAP from the 
server.  Then uninstall Remedy Mid-Tier from the server.  Finally reboot 
the server.
Download ServletExec AS for Windows from the New Atlanta website and 
install the application, using these instructions as a guide.
1. Click Next from Application Server Setup screen.
2. Choose ‘Install a ServletExec AS Instance’ option.  Click Next.
3. Read and Accept License Agreement.
4. Enter unique istance name for server.  Default is fine.  Write 
down for later step.
5. Choose ‘Microsoft IIS or PWS’ on Setup Type screen.  Click Next.
6. Install script will stop IIS Admin and dependent Services
7. Click Next and leave default port number unless instructed by 
Windows Admin
8. Confirm installation options and Click Next
9. Fill in password for Servlet Admin
10. Click ‘Yes’ when asked “Would you like to install ServletExec as a 
NT service?”
11. Check log files in default c:\Program Files\New 
Atlanta\ServletExec AS\config\Install.log location, if necessary.
After the installation, before restarting the IIS Service and/or 
rebooting, you need to manually add the appropriate permissions as 
described in the beginning of this document.  Also, you will need to 
manually configure the ServletExec service to start automatically.
Reboot.
Now you have to configure the ServletExec AS engine.
1. Verify Servlet Exec is running (not necessary) 
http://localhost/servlet/TestServlet
2. Start the ServletExec Administration Console: 
http://localhost/servletexec/admin/login.jsp
3. Click ‘License’ under General heading in left frame.
4. Type “NJQL6-EFB-FQ5BD” in ‘License Key’ field.
5. Click ‘manage’ under Web Applications heading in left frame.
6. Click ‘Add Web Application’ button.
7. Fill in the following fields with similar values depending on your 
installation.  Leave other default values.
a. Application Name=ARSYSTEM
b. L URL Context Path=/arsys/
c. Location=C:\Program Files\AR System\Mid-Tier
There are .bat files that start and stop ServletExec located in your 
Servlet Instance subdirectory.  Normally this is located in C:\Program 
Files\New Atlanta\ServletExec\se-Instance_Name\ subdirectory, where the 
Instance Name is the value you put in Step 4 when installing ServletExec.  
1. Add –Xms and –Xmx parameters to the beginning of the Java command 
inthe  StartServletExec.bat file like it is below:
C:\j2sdk1.4.2_08\bin\java -Xms16m -Xmx256m –classpath…….
Reboot.
Now you can install the Mid-Tier product and everything should work as 
expected.

  You may want to take a look at the Integrating BMC Remedy Action
Request System with Single Sign-On (SSO) white paper that was updated
for AR System 7.00.00.  It also applies to other client-side login
intercept technologies like smart cards or PKI.

It is available on http://supportweb.remedy.com in the Documents
section.

The end user can not authenticate with a username and a password. He/she
can only authenticate using the certificate stored in the smartcard.

Pushing values to the CTM:People Form

Hello everyone,

I have recently created a vendor form which captures data out of Active 
Directory, using the ARDBC LDAP Plug-in.  My next step is to take this 
data, and push it into the CTM:People Form.  I have created the following 
Push Field Escalation:

Push Value to: CTM:People
Push Field if: $Request ID$ = 'Remedy Login ID'  ($Request ID$ is my 
unique identifier which is mapped to userid)

If No Requests Match: Create a New Request
If Any Requests Match: Modify All Matching Requests

I then proceed to map out the fields between my vendor form and the 
CTM:People Form.  When the escalation runs, I receive no on screen errors, 
but in my log files I get   Error while performing escalation action
It is not very descriptive.

I know I have scripted the escalation correctly because if I point it to a 
custom form rather than CTM:People, it populates no problem.  I don't want 
to avoid the CTM:People form because every other workflow,form, etc in the 
system uses it.

I'm also curious if people are populating their people table using a 
different method?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

I know in 7 you have the ability to specify request_id's greater than 15
characters but I have not yet experienced it myself.  Have you turned on
filter logging to see what record it is matching at when it generates the
error?  If you find that it is erroring on the same record you may try
pulling that record up in the user tool to see if you can find a problem
with it.

I've never tried ardisabled but what if you specify the server on the
command line and let it prompt you for the rest.

ardisabled [-c command] [-f filename]
   [-u user] [-p password] [-a authString] [-x server] [-t
tcpPort]
 
Something like:  
ardisabled -x myservername

I'm about to upgrade from HD 5.5 to 5.6, and I'd like to save some time
by using the 'ardisabled' utility to restore customizations to disabled
workflow, but it doesn't work. I've searched the ARSList archives, and
all I found were several other folks asking if anyone's gotten it to
work, so I'm asking again:

Has anyone gotten this seemingly useful utility to actually work?

According to the doc, in prompt mode it's supposed to build a list of
servers and ask me to select one. In fact, it prompts me for the server
name, then reports
 A server name must be supplied in the control record (ARERR 150)
