"Native" Remedy client for Macintosh

2006-08-18 Thread L G Robinson

Hi Folks,

I have submitted the following Enhancement request to BMC/Remedy:

   RFE00010944

Want to get back into the Macintosh market? Here is a low/no cost
opportunity for BMC/Remedy to obtain a "native" Macintosh client...
check out:

   http://www.codeweavers.com/products/cxmac/

This software allows Intel Macintosh users to run Windows
applications, with no Windows OS or other complicated setup. The 5.1.2
Remedy client has already been tested and given a "Silver" rating.
This means that the software runs, but some bugs remain. If BMC/Remedy
could work with the developers of this software to iron out the
remaining issues, then Mac users would be able to run Remedy
applications! You get a whole new (old) platform back for very little
effort on your part.

See:

   http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/?app_id=250

for the status of the Remedy 5.1.2 client.

If this makes sense to you, please consider endorsing this enhancement
request. It would get your Mac users back into Remedy, on their chosen
platform.

Hope this is helpful.

Re: Mid-Tier 7 - ARERR [9388]

2006-08-18 Thread Richard Crosby
There is an article from BMC support that references ARERR 9388
(KM-00025800):

ARERR 623 and 9388 when logging into Mid-Tier 7.0 as Demo.

Categories Installation MidTier

P R O B L E M

We are receiving ARERR 623 and ARERR 9388 when attempting to log in to
Mid-Tier 7.0 as Demo. We can log into the Config, Admin and User Tools
with no problem.

S O L U T I O N

Mid-Tier 7.0 now requires a password in the Admin Tool under File >
Server Information> Connection Settings. This would be the same password
that is in the Mid-Tier Configuration Tool on the AR Server setting page
for that specific server. If you access the AR Server settings, notice
the Admin Password - these 2 Passwords must match, and in Mid-Tier 7.0 a
null password is no longer acceptable. Please verify that both these
passwords match, then flush the cache, delete the browser cache and try
to log in to the Mid-Tier once more.

Also, you may need to increase the VM heap size (edit tomcat.sh) to at
least 256 MB or more if you continue to receive an out of memory error.
Check the Mid-tier 7 release notes as well.

HTH,
Richard

Maybe Dan is trying to "keep the camel's nose" out of the tent; "closing the
barn door" before the horse gets out; keeping that [EMAIL PROTECTED]& cat in
the bag. OK that last one was a stretch.

Remember we are a community and must consider what we post and it's affects on
that community. Strange email subjects and addresses can get the list blocked
by over zealous spam blockers. It happened to me when our email servers where
tightened to reduce spam. A few messages got blocked and kicked of a total
blocking of anything from the List which in turn got me booted and I had to
re-subscribe.

There's no need for aliases unless you need anonymity. And John Smith works
just as good as "imperial Remedy Guru of the Universe".

Yes, we don't want total censorship but courtesy and civility seem to be the
norm for the List so a gentle nudge now and then seems appropriate.

Problem with creating a form

2006-08-18 Thread Mark Bee
Hi,
This is my scenario:
I need to join two forms in such way:
select * from FormA
union all
select * from FormB

Since there is no way to do it through a join form so I use a
view form witch gets the data from a database view (executing above sql
code)

But the manual says that status history field is not suported on view
forms.And that's just what I need.

Have you got any solution for me?

Re: automatically generate email with report included

2006-08-18 Thread Carey Matthew Black

Angelo,

I think it absolutely should be possible. I however have never found
the special handshake that would make it work. So let me quote a few
things from the Email docs (EmailEngine-630.pdf) and see if anyone can
help us get this to actually work. :)

Ref: "Chapter 4—Outgoing email" page 120:
"
You can use the Field Values field or the Qualification field with
form to retrieve required data and substitute it in the email.
"

So it sound like there is a way to create a record in the "AR System
Email Messages" form that would let you Query for data and build the
"Field Values" for the outgoing email. (Which could be created by an
escalation to be sent at the "right time".)

"Figure 4-24" even shows a screenshot of how this should work, but it
does not work for me.

My guess is that my template is missing something. But I have yet to
decode the secret handshake.

Has anyone ever got this feature to work?
Any examples (preferably be based on the User or Group forms) that you
could share?

The email address can be considered offensive, but the individual is asking a basic administrator question.  Sounds like someone trolling for trouble or a brand new ARS administrator.  In either case, a more professional address would help.

If the improvements which are forthcoming to the Web Client, there will be no such thing as the Windows User Tool.  Also, there are many shops that have a significant investment in Power PC based Macs that this does nothing for them.

BMC needs to support the KDE based browsers as well as the Gecko based browsers and all will be well in the Mac world (Safari is based on the KDE engine, Mozilla/Firefox on Gecko.)

There are shops out there still running ARS 3.2.1 on Oracle 7.  Why?  The upgrade to ARS 4 broke.  Thus they do not want to go through any more problems.  And yes, they are completely off of maintenance for ARS and Oracle.  They like it that way and will not move.  Additional functionality, that is why they have an in-house programmer that knows Remedy backwards and forwards.

And no, I don't want to work for one of these shops, but if the job is there, so am I.

Yeah, you can do it, but it's not pretty.  In general, you end up stuck right where you are at, so any further enhancements are limited to the technology at hand.  You don't have cool access to the KB, but you can still get help from this list.  I have actually worked places that had been out of contract for over 2 or 3 years.  If you don't mind staying in a rut forever and the powers in charge are that cheap, then they deserve what they get and what they can and can't do with it.  Even with help from this list, the fact is that most of us move on to newer technologies and some of us just frankly forget what Versions 1.x, 2.x, 3.x were like, so even that becomes limited moving forward.  It is possible, however and there are places that do it.

I don't want to work for any of them.

It's not all of the retroactive support it's a 're-instatement' fee...which equates to about a years worth of support...so if in your scenario you went two years...it might save money...but it's certainly not 'the way to go' with a mission critical system

** Two major concerns that I would have about not having support.
1)No access to patches or updates
2)If two years down the road you decide to pick up support again, you would have to pay support retroactive from the day you dropped it.  At least that is how I understand it.

Hello folks,

just wondering is anyone of you is successfully running a Remedy Server/Application w/o support contract/maintenance ?

Would that be possible at all ?

From my point of view this is kind of risky -> not possible. For example if your NIC melt's or infrastructure changes may require a Remedy patch.

However, what do you think ? ...or is anyone running without a Remedy Support contract ? ...on a related note, as far as I know there are cheaper 3rd party support solutions as well, right ?

2006-08-18 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
My first question is: is this the right solution?

Would generating the report, putting it somewhere it can be retrieved
and emailing the location/URL or ARSystem entry/attachment be better?

Unless you know for sure it is a small report, and/or zip it,
a simple notification of where it is seems prudent.

Re: automatically generate email with report included

2006-08-18 Thread Carey Matthew Black

Dan,

I would think that when a report would be useful to many people that
you approach might be the better path. But if the report is a list of
tickets that the individual needs to do something with or a list
of tasks that they need to complete today... or a report of updates to
records they own that were made by users other than themselves...
etc... then publishing the content at some URL and trying to deal with
the security involved would likely be problematic at best.

But for what it is worth, the Email might have Mid-Tier URL's to the
tickets, tasks, records of interest too. :)

However, the question still stands...

Has anyone ever used the Email Engine to send an outbound email with
content based on a Search? ( Like the docs suggest can be done)

P.S. If the v6 mid-Tier had real reporting features then maybe just a
count and a link to a Mid-Tier form so the user can push the button to
get the report would be fine too.

P.S.S. V7 Mid-Tier appears to have closed (most/all of?) the gap for
Web based Remedy reports, but those are "simple" formats too. If you
want something like "Crystal Reports" then there are other headaches
too. So I am just shooting for HTML table'ish formats maybe with
links embedded. :) I know I must be asking for to much.

Re: automatically generate email with report included

2006-08-18 Thread Clary, Bill
Angelo;
Yes I do it right now for "small" reports to my boss, below is a high
level list of steps to do it. I am using UNIX running ARS 6.3

1. Make a form "just" for running auto reports, make an entry for each
report.
2. Decide if your report needs Dynamic parameters.
3. If Yes then make entries in fields for the report at run time.
4. Use Escalation on Form to run report entry.
5. Using a Filter do a Run Process that does a "runmacro" command that
makes the report and saves to a file on the server.
6. Now run a Filter that uses the "PERFORM-ACTION-ADD-ATTACHMENT"
process to add the report to the record in the form.
7. Now run a filter to Notify as e-mail and add the attachment to the
e-mail.

There you have it, you have automatically run a report and sent it out
as an attachment.

Re: automatically generate email with report included

2006-08-18 Thread Thomas Bean

I have set up several automated reports that are generated
from ARS on a nightly and/or weekly basis, using a series of (disconnected)
escalations.  The general process is as follows:

Escalation 1:  Using a Run Process command, creates
a csv export using a server-side macro (via runmacro.exe) that exports
to a CSV, or using a command-line call to a DTS package in MS-SQL
that creates a CSV or XLS file.

Escalation 2:  Uses the "PERFORM-ACTION-ADD-ATTACHMENT"
command in a Run Process to attach the file (stored on the server file system)
to an attachment field in a Remedy form.

Escalation 3:  Uses a Notify action to send an e-mail
notification including the attachment field.

I space the escalations about 15 minutes apart just to be
certain of the workflow order in the Run Process actions.  This isn't
exactly the process that Carey described from the Email docs, but it seems to
work very well in any case.

Thomas

Re: Problem with creating a form

2006-08-18 Thread Carey Matthew Black

Mark,

If your going down to the DB level anyways...

Look at the T and H tables for the forms your interested in. (Or maybe
the Views that Remedy creates if they include the Status History stuff
too.)

If your view joins 2 T and 2H tables into one view then I think you
should be able to expose the Status History values as fields instead
of the normal "Status History" construct.

Maybe that will solve your issue?

If you do not know how to find the right T,H tables just ask. :)

Question: Flashboard Variable Error

2006-08-18 Thread T. Dee
Using ars 6.00.01 patch 1394 running on windows 2000,sql 2000. using remedy
admin 6.00.01 rel April 21 2004.

I am creating a Flashboard variable with 8 qualification items - when I try
to add one more qualification to the string I get an error that consists of
a red X and no other info. I am told the save failed after clicking on OK.

I have tried changing the variables in the string and it seems to be the
number of variables rather than the string itself.

Suggestions?

THANKS!

Carey,

I have gotten reports to work with escalations
and templates. Yeeha! It took a lot of time
with support to figure out that the timestamp needed a backslash.
The escalation will eventually create 3 records
in the AR System Email Messages form. The
outgoing messge that the escalation generated
will generate an incoming query which will generate the outgoing report.

Just have your escalation run the following notify action

Qualification: 'Create-date' > ($\TIMESTAMP$ - (60*60*24))

Ref: "Chapter 4—Outgoing email" page 120:

So it sound like there is a way to create a record in the "AR System

"Field Values" for the outgoing email. (Which could be created by an
escalation to be sent at the "right time".)

"Figure 4-24" even shows a screenshot of how this should work, but it
does not work for me.

My guess is that my template is missing something. But I have yet to

Has anyone ever got this feature to work?

If you are simply upgrading your server to v6 (or above)
simply go to SupportWeb and choose License File Upgrade.  Attach your
existing license file and send it. You will receive an email with a file
that has both your existing v5 keys and the new v6 keys in it.  Put that
file in place of your existing license file and you are done with the
licenses.  The new file will work with your existing v5 server and when you
run the v6 upgrade install the server will recognize the v6
keys.

Re: automatically generate email with report included

2006-08-18 Thread Carey Matthew Black

Thomas and Bill,

I hear you. You can take that approach, but ...

The macro has to login to get the data. That means there is an
account/password out there somewhere and that is generally a bad thing
from a security perspective. Also the account that is used may
actually report data that the user does not have direct access to.
(Which can be confusing or helpful depending on the conditions.) And
the data sent may or may not be "Public" and "ok" to be sent in
unsecured email.

While that could work I could also so this type of thing with an API
program that I call and let it send the email too.

What I think we all could use is better examples of the tool that we
all have should work.

The docs lead me to think that the Email engine will use the "ARS
Servers" access/logic to the fields that are referenced in the Content
Template. (per the normal notification logic) But I must admit, that
is an assumption as I can not find any docs that describe what fields
are returned form the Query when done via the "Advanced" options on
the "ARS Email Messages" form too.

I have set up several automated reports that are generated from ARS on a
nightly and/or weekly basis, using a series of (disconnected) escalations.
The general process is as follows:

Escalation 1: Using a Run Process command, creates a csv export using a
server-side macro (via runmacro.exe) that exports to a CSV, or using a
command-line call to a DTS package in MS-SQL that creates a CSV or XLS file.

Escalation 2: Uses the "PERFORM-ACTION-ADD-ATTACHMENT" command in a Run
Process to attach the file (stored on the server file system) to an
attachment field in a Remedy form.

Escalation 3: Uses a Notify action to send an e-mail notification including
the attachment field.

I space the escalations about 15 minutes apart just to be certain of the
workflow order in the Run Process actions. This isn't exactly the process
that Carey described from the Email docs, but it seems to work very well in
any case.

Thomas

Julie,

WOW. That is kind of what I was trying to do, but in a very different

Maybe that is how it works... What a sad feature that would be then.

I have no interest in embedding a user name and password in any
workflow or submitting it to the "ARS Email Messages" form. (Have you

very scary to me.) I also have no interest in embedding such

Carey,
You may be able to get around sending the password via email by storing
it in another template and including that template.
Check out the old thread "Submitting tickets via email without
login and password info"

Maybe that is how it works... What a sad feature that would be

I have no interest in embedding a user name and password in any
workflow or submitting it to the "ARS Email Messages"
form.  (Have you
looked at the permission on that form out of the box? That idea is
very scary to me.) I also have no interest in embedding such
information in an "AR System Email Templates" attachment
either. (For
the same reasons.)

I was doing a Push action to the "AR System Email Messages"
form and
populating the fields on the 'Advanced Options' (tab) -->
'Variable

This message has been associated with incompatible browsers accessing the

You did not state if you have support or not.  If you
do, you can purge off the old license and reuse it for the new server AFTER you
install ARS 6.1/6.3/7.0 and use the license portion of the Admin Tool to
get the Host ID.  This is something that I am quite familar with. I don't
know if Remedy will help you with the migration of an ARS 5.1.2 server or
not.

You have to execute a purge agreement, which can be found
on the BMC support web - if you have support. The instructions and what you need
to do are there as well. I think it is under the licensing link on the left, but
can't say for sure.

If I remember correctly, if you don't have support you can
still do it, but then you will have to contact support and have them send
you a purge agreement. (I don't think the purge agreement is available in
the general web site). I believe there is also a nominal charge to do that. At
least, that's the way I remember it used to be - don't know with the new
management.

should be able set it to same value as the old server. If the old

I just checked a couple of computers here and both directly support
changing the MAC. Here is the output of IPCONFIG /ALL after I changed

Friday Humor: Ultimate Divorce letter..

2006-08-18 Thread Joe D'Souza

Dear Husband

I'm writing you this letter
to tell you that I'm leaving you for good. I've been a good woman to you for
seven years and I have nothing to show for it. These last two weeks have been
hell.

Your boss called to tell me
that you had quit your job today and that was the last straw. Last week, you
came home and didn't notice that I had gotten my hair and nails done, cooked
your favorite meal and even wore a brand new negligee.

You came home and ate in two
minutes, and went straight to sleep after watching the game. You don't tell me
you love me anymore, you don't touch me or anything. Either you're cheating or
you don't love me anymore, whatever the case is, I'm gone.

P.S. If you're trying to find
me, don't. Your BROTHER and I are moving away to West Virginia together! Have a
great life!

Your Ex-wife

***

Dear Ex-Wife

Nothing has made my day more
than receiving your letter. It's true that you and I have been married for seven
years, although a good woman is a far cry from what you've been. I watch sports
so much to try to drown out your constant nagging. Too bad that doesn't work. I
did notice when you cut off all of your hair last week, the first thing that
came to mind was "You look just like a man!" My mother raised me to not say
anything if you can't say anything nice.

When you cooked my favorite
meal, you must have gotten me confused with my BROTHER, because I stopped eating pork seven
years ago. I went to sleep on you when you had on that new negligee because the
price tag was still on it. I prayed that it was a coincidence that my brother
had just borrowed fifty dollars from me that morning and your negligee was
$49.99.

After all of this, I still
loved you and felt that we could work it out. So when I discovered that I had
hit the lotto for ten million dollars, I quit my job and bought us two tickets
to Jamaica.

But  When I got home you
were gone. Everything happens for a reason I guess. I hope you have the filling
life you always wanted. My lawyer said with your letter that you wrote, you
won't get a dime from me. So take care.

P.S. I don't know if I
ever told you this but Carl, my brother was born Carla. I hope that's not a
problem.

Here is what is says (Sorry for the format - don't have time to clean it up):

BMC Remedy AR System provides a variety of accesscontrol features that protect sensitive applications anddata. Password protection ensures that only authorizedusers are permitted to enter the system. Andgroup permissions restrict authorized users to accessonly those system resources, such as applications, forms, fields, and even records, that they are authorizedto view or change. For complete protection, however, you also need toensure that sensitive information is protected fromeavesdroppers as it is passed “over the wire” amongthe various components of the system. Secure SocketsLayer (SSL) encryption encrypts information communicatedbetween Web browsers and Web servers, protecting it from eavesdroppers. Now, with BMC® Remedy® Encryption, you canencrypt the information passed over the wire betweenyour BMC Remedy

Many of these applications and data deal with sensitive information. So, it is imperativethat you protect them from unauthorized access by users, not only from outside the firewall, but frominside, as well. According to

Yeah, you
can do it, but it's not pretty.  In general, you end up stuck right where
you are at, so any further enhancements are limited to the technology at
hand.  You don't have cool access to the KB, but you can still get help
from this list.  I have actually worked places that had been out of contract
for over 2 or 3 years.  If you don't mind staying in a rut forever and the
powers in charge are that cheap, then they deserve what they get and what they
can and can't do with it.  Even with help from this list, the fact is that
most of us move on to newer technologies and some of us just frankly forget
what Versions 1.x, 2.x, 3.x were like, so even that becomes limited moving
forward.  It is possible, however and there are places that do it.

I don't
want to work for any of them.

letter..

I hope that's not a
problem.__20060125___This posting was submitted

Mandatory / Required Field

2006-08-18 Thread Vianna
Hello

I have been asked to add a new mandatory field to our ticket form.
Unfortunately I have done very little development in the past (my
primary role is administration).

I'm wondering what ramifications adding this field might have? For
example, I would like it to be mandatory for any new tickets, but if
somebody opens an existing (older) ticket, would they be forced to fill
in something to that field as well? I don't want that to happen.

Also, is there a way to make a field mandatory based on CTI?

Any help that somebody can offer me would be great. I'm relatively new
to this user group as well, so if I should be providing more info,
please let me know. (We're running 5.01.02 patch level 1346 if that
helps?)

Thank you!!

2006-08-18 Thread Lucero, Michelle - IST contractor
Hi, Kyle:

I love this stuff. I guess cause I love numbers.

Finds Cases Created between 5:00 PM and 8:00 AM of any day of any year
since Jan 1 1970.
You must use an OR statement, because items cannot be created after 5 PM
and before 8:00 AM at the same time.
(('Arrival Time' - "1/1/1970 12:00:00 AM")%86400) >= (17*3600) OR
(('Arrival Time' - "1/1/1970 12:00:00 AM")%86400) < (8*3600)

You can do the same thing for days of the week, too. When building
qualifications to find items that were created on certain days, don't
forget that Jan 1, 1970 was a Thursday. Meaning the day number for
Thursday in this qual will always be zero.

Finds items created on Thursday and Friday of any week of any year since
January 1, 1970.

((('Arrival Time' - "1/1/1970 12:00:00 AM")%(7 * 86400)) >= (0 * 86400))
AND ((('Arrival Time' - "1/1/1970 12:00:00 AM")%(7 * 86400)) < (2*
86400))

Hope that helps. Obviously, you might want to add more criteria to
narrow your searches.

You can use action Submit (= Create) and have a filter checking if the field is
null or not, this filter will not trigger when editing already created requests
(modify). You can also add a filter which don't accept the field to be set to
null if set before. Based on CTI? Filters can perform anything .. I guess You
want to make the field required if another field is XXX or check values is
another form based upon field in your mainfom, ordinary filter actions, no

Any ticket created between 5 PM and 8 AM any day

 'Arrival Time' - "01/01/1970") % 86400) >= (17 * 3600)) OR
 ((( 'Arrival Time' - "01/01/1970" ) % 86400) <= (8 * 3600)))

Add in whatever else criteria needed

86400 = (60*60*24) or 1 day
 3600 = (60*60)or 1 hour
   % = the modulus operator

In order for the mod to work on dates in a query you have to force the
date to be seen as a number. Subtracting the date of 01/01/1970 does
this.

Besides what Lars pointed out, if there is any Push Fields operation happening from other forms to this one, then if there are modifications you are making to existing tickets, you would need to map the new mandatory field to ensure that it gets a value...

Re: Mandatory / Required Field

2006-08-18 Thread Timothy Powell
If you create a field on your form, and the Entry Mode for that field (as
defined on the Database tab of the Field Properties) is set to Required,
then any submit or modification of a record where that field value is NULL
will result in an error. The record cannot be saved until that required
field has a value.

To make a field conditionally required, create the same field, but this time
set the Entry Mode to Optional. Then you can create workflow (active links
or filters) to enforce value based on conditions that you define. For
instance, in your example, to make a field value required on a new ticket
but not an existing ticket, I'd create a filter that executes on Submit and
the Run If statement is: $YourField$ = $NULL$. Then add an If Action that
throws an Message (type Error). Your message text might say something like
"A value for YourField is required in order to submit a new ticket".

Enforce based on C/T/I? Sure...same concept as above, but you modify your
Run If statement to look at particular C/T/I (and/or any other field) values
present in the ticket. But if there is any chance that you might want the
field mandatory based on numerous C/T/Is that you have, I'd do the C/T/I
checking via some type of lookup and have the filter examine the result of
that lookup in order to determine the enforcement.

It's also possible to make the field required and use modify all or sql and
enter N/A for existing requests. For all new requests, create a filter on
submit for which N/A is invalid. The user have to enter a value but not N/A.
Sometimes it's better to make the field really required, depends on the
situation.

Re: ? New Hires/Terminations/Moves solution

2006-08-18 Thread Candace DeCou
Well, we use OOB ITSM, so with Version 6.x Tasking is now available to
us in Help Desk. Since we don't use Change the way most normal
companies do, that wasn't an option. I simply configured CTI's for Help
Desk and Tasks based on what we call MAC (Moves/Adds/Changes) and we now
manage all new hire and termination processes this way. We stick to MAC
at the CTI level since we ONLY use it for those types of activities that
require multiple 'tasks' and where something new, terminated or changing
is happening. That way if we ever get around to re-doing the entire CTI
structure, it won't impact those tasking elements we have already
configured.
We are also now using this for new server installations (rack, install
OS, etc., decommissions, and other types of activities that involve
multiple tasks.
Hope this helps.

Lowercase Login field

2006-08-18 Thread Kathy Morris
**

Hi,

Last night I spent a significant amount of time reading archived messages
on this subject, the ARS guide, etc and my workflow is still not
working.

We have several users with inconsistent formats - bsmith, TJackson, rVince,
and our requirement is for a consistent lower case format.

I created a filter which called the function LOWER ($Login Name$) passing
the value LOWER($Login Name$) into the field $Login Name$.  Not
working.  A thread had mentioned a direct SQL statement, which I did not
have the syntax for.  Also there was mention of _javascript_ thru
midtier.  I am trying to get this to work on the client via the user
tool.

Is there a way to modify previous user login ids to lower
case.

I know I can set a pattern of $LOWER$ on the field for future created login
ids.

Is there a way so that when searching on fields, the case does not
matter?  I think someone said "no, and live with it."  Just need to
confirm.

CRD
may be another option for you:

  http://www.christiansteven.com/main.htm
It's
quirky and buggy, but it's also cheap and powerful, so it's a
trade-off.

Some of the features I really like to it are:
 - Reports can be set to run on custom
calendars
 - Custom calendars can be pulled from any SQL source,
including Remedy.
 - It supports up to 4 parallel threads.
 - It supports start times with formats such as "2:25 AM Last
Friday"

A
few of the features I don't like so much are:
 - Once defining an output location, it is not possible to retrieve
the value, so it can not be verified.
 - The default install creates a public network share.  (this
can later be made into a private share)

 - The progress bar is sometimes hangs, even though the report has
completed.

If I were doing it via ARS I would run an escalation, NOT a filter, on the SHR:People form (or whatever other equivalent form you are using to maintain your user database if its a home grown application). And a similar filter on the User form to change the login field to loser case..

A Filter running would be triggered only on a server event on that record, such as a submit, Modify, Delete etc... which is why you are not seeing your filter firing...

Hi,

Last night I spent a significant amount of time reading archived messages on this subject, the ARS guide, etc and my workflow is still not working.

We have several users with inconsistent formats - bsmith, TJackson, rVince, and our requirement is for a consistent lower case format.

I created a filter which called the function LOWER ($Login Name$) passing the value LOWER($Login Name$) into the field $Login Name$.  Not working.  A thread had mentioned a direct SQL statement, which I did not have the syntax for.  Also there was mention of _javascript_ thru midtier.  I am trying to get this to work on the client via the user tool.

Is there a way to modify previous user login ids to lower case.

I know I can set a pattern of $LOWER$ on the field for future created login ids.

Is there a way so that when searching on fields, the case does not matter?  I think someone said "no, and live with it."  Just need to confirm.

Candace, I had this happen to me once too - there's a bug (since
patched, I think) that doesn't allow the import directly into a currency
field. What I had to do was create a character field into which to
import the currency data, then have a Set Fields action move the data
from the char field to the currency field.

Candace:

You will need at least two fields to set a Currency field. They are
Currency.value and currency.type (there are actually three fields for
currency.) Without the type of currency (i.e. USD), the update will not
'take.' You stated that you are working on a comma separated variable
file and it should have the currency.type in the file.

We are in need of updating our existing Asset records with Cost
information and I would like to export our existing records to csv, mass
update the Cost field (Currency field) and re-import back in place to
our 6.3 Patch 16 server (Windows 2003, SQL Server 2000). I am getting
errors on Import since the Currency field doesn't seem to like any of
the trials I have set up to import to that field given that it appears
to have both the Current Type and Value fields. Unfortunately, we have
recently lost Remedy support due to lack of payment on our maintenance
plan, so I would really appreciate it if anyone can help me figure out
how to import cost data into these currency fields.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Title: RE: Suspected Spam: Need Help Importing CSV Asset Records With Currency
Field

I actually tried that James – a concatenation
of two columns – one for Type and one for Value – that didn’t
work either.  But when I look at any ‘real’ value entered into
the Currency field under normal conditions, I see this:

Type  |  Value

USD  250.00

JPN

XYZ

ETC

Uh, something like that, so instead of
having only the one Type, it is displaying all available types directly as attributes
in the saved value for the field.  I thought maybe that was the problem.
So here is my solution – I went back to the requester and asked if the
values for most records would be similar or same.  He said yes, so I
simply performed a Modify all on roughly 4 different asset types and that just
worked beautifully.  I would still like to know how to do this the other
way though, so I will most likely try the previous recommendations.

Thanks!

J
