Mimi,

How can you expect people here to know if 'cleaning the queue' should mean deleting records? You need to go back to the requester and askhim to be more specific about what he wants. This is not a Remedy issue, it is more of a process issue.

Richard,

You are getting very close. From my little understanding he wants the queue to be cleaned on the form where Problem category = PM and status = Inactive. There are about 3000 records. Could deleting those records be cleaning the queue. If not what are the other ways to clean it?

Gob bless you!

I see lots of responses, but no answers….

Mimi,

Normally, in incident/problem management, a queue is where a request is placed into for further processing.

Wikipedia definition:

In providing services in computer science, transport, and operations research a queue is a buffer where various entities such as data, objects, persons, or events are stored and waiting to be processed.

For example:

Say I work at an inbound technical support center. I receive a call regarding a cracked laptop screen. I have 3 queues I can send the ticket to. There is a Network, Hardware and Telecomm queue. Naturally, a cracked screen falls under Hardware, so I place the ticket in that queue. Now it is up to the Hardware queue owners to manage the ticket.

In many cases, misinformation, poor training, lazy analysts, etc. will all attribute to improper queue assignment. Based on your information below, I am going to heavily assume that they want the PM queue cleaned out. Meaning someone needs to go through the cases/tickets in the PM queue and re-assign them to the appropriate queue.

As far as form goes, this is the primary location where collected information is stored. If you are a Help Desk, then it is normally referred to a Trouble Ticket or Help Desk Case. I would suggest getting with one of the Tier 1 Help Desk analysts to see how they process incoming tickets so you understand the triage process. Without, this knowledge, you won't get too far. Also, the Help Desk analyst, under much scrutiny from the supervisor, should be able to help you reroute misassigned tickets to the correct queue.

Hope this helps,
Richard

I am pasting the request directly if it help, MD has designated routes that the tech run each month and it doesn't match up with what is produced in Remedy, causing the queue to be overfull. What I need is to have all the PM's cleaned out... MD is one of the states we support but I my self doesn't know which specific form he is talking about. I wish I can give you more details.

I deeply appreciate your effort and even general idea about the queue might lead me to something.

Re: Problem with Remedy Archiving when adding Views to the form.

2006-09-06 Thread Ron Tavares
**
Hugo is correct, I am trying to add the Radio button field because Remedy failed to carry it over when I added it to the original form. The reason that failed, is because we added a new veiw (the 10th view), to original form and that view failed to carry over. Remedy says this is normal because you do not need views on the archive form. But what they are forgetting, is that when the views are not in sync, the Remedy System is unable to carry over new feilds.

Hugo,

I like your suggestion. It sounds like it would work, but I'm a little concerned about things like field IDs and the T#s of the archive table. These might change in the process, no?
On 9/6/06, Hugo Visser [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

** Ian,As I understand adding fields to the archive form is just a work around for him, because Remedy's mechanism isn't adding those fields. What you could try is this, I haven't tested it (yes it's dirty):
Save your original form as a copy, turn on archiving on that copy so that the archive form you want is created. Then export the definition of the archive form and modify the form name. After that import the new archive form in place over the old archive form. Afterwards you can delete the copy and the copy archive.
Hope that works :)Oh and looking back in this thread I see a similar workaround is proposed, well, hopefully this one is usefull for the archives then.

Ron,
As James has since pointed out, you can not add data fields to an Archive form. Looking at Appendix E of the new V7 manual Form and Application Objects (or Chapter 7 of the V6 Configuring AR System) it says that 'Data fields (including radio) cannot be modified or added to an archive form. All other types, such as trim or table, can be added or modified.' It also states that fields in Archive forms created by AR System have read-only access.

The question that hasn't been asked yet (at least I haven't noticed it yet) is 'Why do you want to add a radio field to an Archive form?'
We have a mix of archive forms, some using the OOB feature, others where we had to set up an archiving facility before Remedy introduced it back in Version 6. I have had a few problems with setting up OOB archiving but eventually got the hang of it when I had passed the learning curve that accompanies these new features that Remedy adds in. I must admit that they appear to have improved it as the versions go on.

e-mail)After evaluating the information provided in the open bug engineeringdetermined that the behavior is as expected, with no plan to change it inthe future. Per their comments: The main purpose of a shadow form is to keep
the archive(or audit) data. Views are not required for that. But this statement is only true if you NEVER add any additional fields. Now, after banging my head agains the wall a few times, I figured how to
work around this. By simply re-creating the field, from scratch, beingcareful to keep the same properties and ID, I was able to add the field tothe Archvie AND re-enabel Archiving. (Even though Remedy doesn't support
adding fields directly to the Archive form.) BUT, the problem I am havingis with the Radio Button field. Try creating one of these dirctly on thearchive form and you cannot set the attributes. They are grayed out.

which patch are you using? My initial guess was that it's client

I unfortunately don't have access to the support website at the moment

Hi Nyall,

I didn't define the report server - my understanding was that it uses
the server I'm currently logged in if nothing is defined (I'm only
logged in into dev). I added the servername as you suggest, cleaned
the cache and restarted the client - still the same behaviour.. But a
good point, thanks for suggesting!

The report exists on the dev server too. As said, it even runs fine
partly - until it suddenly stopps for some unknown reason..

Re: Administrative Access

2006-09-06 Thread Will Du Chene
**

Koyb:

Ohh... Now that is a loaded question. I am afraid that you have just hit on
a real sort of sore spot with me. I have seen places out there that have done
something similar, allowingnon-technical, non-programmer, non-developers
with little background (or understanding!) with the application administrative
rights to the installation. Frankly, that situation drives me nuts and makes the
hair on the back of my neck stand. Believe me when I tell you that I am feeling
your pain!

In the real world, your AR System administrator is the controller of such
access. We're the gatekeepers and the developers. Typically, before even
considering granting such rights to an account, the administrator would run the
notion of granting the said rights to a project supervisor or some sort of other
manager to get support for it - simply because of what the power that comes with
the account can do. This is more or less a way of covering ones self in the
event that the n00bie actually did something - ahem, bad.

If I were in your situation again, I would do what I typically do - set up
a meeting with the powers that be and make my case. Explain to them the damage
that this level of priviledge can do. Cover the facts and explain that - out of
an organization of hundreds - there might only be one or two individuals that
might have this role. Explain to them that the typical administrator has been
doing this for years, and to actually do development work one has to be fairly
knowledgeable about development (hopefully attended a class or two at some
point)as a whole and have some experience with other forms of it.

If your counterpart is doing development in a production environment, that
raises a really big, honkin', ugly-lookin' red flag. That's a no-no on a global
scale and violates most of the change practices (and common sense) that I am
aware of. This alone directly impacts your ability to support the system. You
could explain that - if this other person does something nasty - you might not
be able to correct it, or that recovery from it might involve recovering the
database from it's last snapshot.

At the same time, you might want to give this other person the benefit of
doubt. Perhaps their just doing what they are told to do. Yank their
administrative rights from your production server and grant them on development.
Put the new administrator back in the sand box where it belongs and let it play.
This is not a bad approach at all because you are going to want ONE or maybe TWO
(hopefully very seasoned) people with production access so that they can move
changes over into your production environment, rather than letting it be a
free-for-all in which cows can come falling out of the sky.

Finally, after you have made your case, and explained to them that they are
on the path to making their installation look like something that came right
outta H - E - double hockysticks and that it will be next to impossible to
maintain, well... There are other opportunities out there. I'll fess up - I have
seen a couple of installations that look really good on the outside, but -
because some yo-yo higher on the food chain wanted something - looked like road
kill inside. Yes, in those instances I did the best that I could, tried hard to
fix it, and waited for something else. Ironically, my frustration level went
away - AAahhh..

Best of luck with your this.

form of lemmings. If there is a cliff near by, and their buddies jump)

2006-09-06 Thread Kemes, Lisa
I had an AL just stop working all of the sudden and what I had to do was
delete it and then re-import the AL from the Prod server. Sometimes
AL's get corrupted. Now my AL has no more problems on my Dev server

If this does not work, at least it only takes a couple of minutes to
do

Hope this helps

Re: Administrative Access

Q: How is admin access
given in most organizations? Who makes this decision? What is the
experience for other listers?

A: In my experience,
rights to modify WORKFLOW is only given to those with the training and
development experiencenot untrained users that don't know what they are
doing. The rights to modify CONFIGURATION
DATA on the other hand is handed out much more freely.
In either case, most
organizations only grant either of these rights after the user has had some type
of training and/or experience. IMHO, only
an organization that doesn't care about it's applications and impact to end
users grants untrained people any type of rights that might result in unwanted
functionality, data corruption or outright outages. Would your management give
the same user, admin rights to their HR or accountingapplications or admin
rights to all of their servers?

While we physically set
the access, the ultimate decision of granting that accessusually lies with
the owner of the support process and application. But if he/she values their
job, they won't let people that don't have experience monkey around in their
systems. When that untrained person does something that crashes the entire
system andbrings the support functions in the company to a screeching
haltsomebody is going to pay for it.

Q: How would you handle
it if you were responsible for the Remedy application, and some un-trained user
is given Admin rights by management.

A: I'd probably ask
myself a few questions:

1) Was the management
person that granted the access the application/process owner?
2) Why was that user
given access? Was it to start them off as a junior person and ramp them up so
that in the long run they can assistme in myjob? Or was it given
because the user is the management person's boyfriend/girlfriend that thought it
would be "neat" to have access? If it's a boyfriend/girlfriend type issue and
the grantor was not the application/process owner, I'd revoke the access and
force the issue to the application/process ownerlevel.
3) If this was the case
of somebody that management wanted to learn the app to assist me, haveI
documentedmy change process (no changes on production, etc.) in writing
and has that person continued to ignore that policy? If that's the case, that person needs to start
followingthe internal processes for changing the system. If they don't,
I'd revoke their access and force the issue.

If I did revoke the access, I'd haveall of my
facts ready so thatI could immediately present them to the
application/process owner to backup my actions and for consideration in making
their decision. Lastly, I'd capture all of the
decision discussions that I could via email, so that if the decision is made to
still grant that access,I'd have a paper trail to back me up when the app
goes up in smoke.

Bear in mind that the
political ramifications of doing something like thiscan have negative
impact on your career development path...in other words, it CAN get you
fired.I'm not advocating a mutiny and I'm not saying you should do these
things. These are thoughts that I and I alone have.
I think that should cover
the legal disclaimerfine print. :-)

I hope you kept all the
emails you sent where you strongly advised management to NOT let that untrained
person have access and where you pointed out issues that arose from this person
doing things in production
;-)

Will,

We've got somethign
similar in place - all of the core support team have full admin rights.
Thankfully they don't realise what they have access to (and don't realise that
if they just install the admin tool, they could do anything), so for the most
part its pretty safe. That kinda falls over in a way that hasn't yet been
realised by management - we're an american company, have gone through Sarbanes
Oxley, and system access control being an important part, i would have thought
it would have been picked up on by now. I'll have to suggest that security
and access levels get reviewed when ITSM7 gets put into place.

You're right on about dev
on a live system. In any application development environment you shouldn't
ever be developing directly on a live system, just wy too dangerous.
I've been having to of late, as our dev system had ARS6.3/ITSM6 installed on it,
and our live system has ARS4.5.2/ITSM4 on it (that wasn't my choice, it was done
by our server team, pretty irritating, I tell you).

I don't know where in Houston would be appropriate. I live in Houston
and while we do have hotels and convention centers that would work,
there's not as much of a night-life as other places nor is there any
real form of public transportation. Plus I live here so it would be
better to be able to travel some.

On the other hand, the main offices of BMC are here (although not much
of a Remedy presence as far as I know) and it is one of the biggest
cities in the U.S. If people want to come early or stay late over the
weekend they can always go to see NASA or the Enron building.

Just keep in mind that October still is not cool in Houston for most
people. When you live here you get used to it and it does feel a lot
cooler than it would in July or August, but it's not like the
temperatures would be like San Francisco was last week.

I don't know where in Houston would be appropriate. I live in Houston and
while we do have hotels and convention centers that would work, there's not
as much of a night-life as other places nor is there any real form of public
transportation. Plus I live here so it would be better to be able to travel
some.

On the other hand, the main offices of BMC are here (although not much of a
Remedy presence as far as I know) and it is one of the biggest cities in the
U.S. If people want to come early or stay late over the weekend they can
always go to see NASA or the Enron building.

Just keep in mind that October still is not cool in Houston for most people.
When you live here you get used to it and it does feel a lot cooler than it
would in July or August, but it's not like the temperatures would be like
San Francisco was last week.

Hi,

The WSDL file I am attempting to parse contains the line:

wsdl:import namespace=http://www.-solutions.co.uk/webservices/connectors/common/interface location=CommonConnector-Interface-1.0.wsdl /

The error I get when parsing is:

ERROR: WSDLException: faultCode=OTHER_ERROR: Unable to resolve imported document at 'CommonConnector-Interface-1.0.wsdl'.: This file was not found: file:CommonConnector-Interface-1.0.wsdl file:///\\CommonConnector-Interface-1.0.wsdl

**

My guess is when it hits this line it simply cannot find the file 'CommonConnector-Interface-1.0.wsdl'. However, this file is in the same place as the file being parsed. Is there anyone out there who would know where the parsing routine would look for wsdl files contained within the actual wsdl being parsed ?

I appreciate this is probably not an easy question but I'm sure one of you boffins out there will be able to help !!

Hi,

I am trying to load in the WSDL of a web servicethe web service is hosted on an in-house server and not externally. When I input the WSDL and click 'Load' within a 'Set Fields' action I get the error:

*

ERROR: WSDLException: faultCode=OTHER_ERROR: Unable to resolve imported document at 'CommonConnector-Interface-1.0.wsdl'.: This file was not found: file:CommonConnector-Interface-1.0.wsdl file:///\\CommonConnector-Interface-1.0.wsdl

This implies that it has found the WSDL file I entered but is then having an issue with one of the WSDL's it then subsequently calls. All WSDL files are in the same directory on the server so I'm not sure why it can find the top level one but not one it then calls.

Any ideas ?

If the two Oracle servers are on the same wire (network) then you cannot set the SID to the same name. You will get an error (I don't know what it is) when you go to start up the second instance. If they are in isolated spaces, then you will not get the error.

James / John,
I should clarify, the fear is not for cross communication between tablespaces - Oracle ARS handle that well. The concern is if the database SID names are the same, but refer to different oracle instances. If there was a tnsnames.ora copy / overwrite snafu, you could have both ARS instances talking to one Oracle instance and not even know it (If this is in fact what is meant by the DB is the same name).

In thinking about what could be referencing the old ars server that the installer would care about, I could only think of SERVER_CACHE left over from ARS v5 or a copied .lic file. Table fields filter guides would not affect the upgrade installer I hope. I can't think of other embedded server references.

I've never encountered the installer upgrade option complaining that the database intact and accessible - that seems very wrong - so I'm left to conclude that the database being present accessible is not the root problem.

I _suspect_ that the installer detects that the ARS database it is about to upgrade is in use by another running ARS server elsewhere - which could easily happen if your SID's were the same in dev prod.

The other problem here could be that all of the oracle binaries and config files were copied, including tnsnames which refernces the prod instance - and it is actually Oracle generating this error message. If this is the case, the DBA will need to either:

A:) ensure that all references to the old db server hostname/ip in _any_ Oracle configurations are updated to the dev database hostname/ip Or

B:) erase the instance and re-create it via standard tools/processes, then export the data from prod and import it in dev.

Option B would be highly reccommended - who knows where Oracle stuffs away information about where it is supposed to reside.

Why the fear? If you name one tablespace ARSYSTEM for instance, and the second ARSYSTEM1, there should be NO cross-talk between the two tablespaces. The problem here might be that the database was physically copied from one server to another and there may be internal checking that is failing and thus the error.

John,

By the DB is the same name do you mean the ORACLE SID or the database server hostname?

With Oracle, the Db-name: ar.cfg parameter is used for the tablespace name if it is not ARSYSTEM.
One thing that worries me about this config is that if the SID's are the same, the only place they are differentiated is in tnsnames.ora - the danger of unintended cross communication seems great.

What version of ARS have and are you upgrading from (this last time, and tracing back?) Check the contents of SERVER_CACHE and see if there are references to old servers there.

Also, did you copy the file containing the ARS licenses to the dev ARS server? - try renaming it if you did.

One Oracle instance can have one or many tablespaces. Each tablespace can contain the objects for one or more accounts/schemas and keep them separate (even with the same table names).

I guess Demo has been free for a while, active, so Demo is in field 'Submitter', 'Changed by' and ...

In our appl Demo is a non existing name since long time.

Some wf setting DEMO sometimes? Submitter-mode set to locked? It means you are not allowed to

Why not search in the deffile for Demo? and change Owner = Demo

Turn on logging to see if that can give something.

I'm running 5.1.2 on Windows 2000, MS-SQL 2000 and I'm seeing inconsistent results from a notification e-mail that is sent by a filter. The filter fires on Submit and one of the fields in the body of the e-mail is set to Submitter. Most of the time it populates the correct user name but I've now seen a couple e-mails go out with Demo as the username.

When I check that ticket I see the correct username in the status history and work log so I'm puzzled as to why it would substitute Demo at all. The frustrating part is that I have two e-mails sent within ten minutes of each other and one shows the correct user name and the other shows Demo for the Submitter field.

Any clues as to why this might happen?

Re: Question: Disable ODBC

2006-09-06 Thread Carey Matthew Black

All,

ConfigGuide-630.pdf Page: 287:

Disable-Client-Operation: tag_number_to_disable [[start_time]-
[stop_time]] [group_ID_list]

Restricts time-consuming operations (such as reporting) during busy times,
improving the overall performance. This option can be set to certain times
the day. It can also exclude users of specific groups so that they are not
blocked from performing the specified operation. For example, you can
allow only the administrator to perform reporting during busy hours.

So ... I think the config file option is the best bet. It would allow
any specified groups to be _excluded_ from the restriction.

Jason's Get Entry filter option does go to one level more granular (to
the user not a group) and has the added performance expense of being
evaluated for every data row returned from the form. (Even for the
users listed in the Run If.)

I wonder if the config option will (or was) similarly expanded like
the Assignee Group values were but BMC failed to document that
feature? (Maybe you can be user specific in the config file? if not,
then it would be a good REF idea IMHO.)

Hi,

Just a thought.

Have you defined the Report Server option in the User Tool to point to
the dev server. If so, does the report exist on the Report form on dev
server?

If I have misread this problem then please ignore this.

Thanks.

Re: Problem with Remedy Archiving when adding Views to the form.

Ron,The field id's won't change, since you're making a copy of your original form, including view id's and such. The archive form in turn is just a copy of that form with some fields added. When you import a form in place the T# is also unchanged.
I've just tested it and it looks like it's working fine. You don't even have to hack the def files! Just copy your original form. The copy won't have any archiving info set. Set some dummy info and set the name of the new archive form. Then export the created archive form and reimport. On the import dialog you can change the form name of your copy archive form. Be sure to check the import in place option and volia :) Updated archive form, with the existing data and with all new views.
Ofcourse the usual disclaimer applies, so back up first and try it on a test machine :)Btw, Remedy might throw the as designed at you but the thing is really their way of syncing the forms is fragile as you expecienced.
Hope this is working for you too.HugoOn 9/6/06, Ron Tavares [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

I must admit that they appear to have improved it as the versions go on.

work around this. By simply re-creating the field, from scratch, beingcareful to keep the same properties and ID, I was able to add the field tothe Archvie AND re-enabel Archiving. (Even though Remedy doesn't support

ARS 7 install issues with Oracle 10gR2 on Solaris 9

2006-09-06 Thread Eric Zhang
Hello, All!

I am installing ARS 7.0 on a Solaris 9 box with Oracle 10gR2. I am having
a couple of issues:

1. If we don't get ARSystem table space created prior to the installation,
we get the following error:

An unknown Oracle error has been detected.
Please resolve this error and re-try the installation.
Refer to /tmp/arDBErrorLog for the Oracle error information.

I checked /tmp/arDBErrorLog, it only has a time stamp, no other error
details.

After the DBA created ARSystem table space, we were able to move on with
the installation. Remedy Tech Support recommends not to create ARSystem
prior to installation. If you have done ARS 7 installation with Oracle
10gR2, did you have to create ARSystem table space prior to installation?
If you didn't create ARSystem table first, what's the default table space
for ARAdmin?

2. We got the following after we chose to use UNICODE:

Selecting UNICODE to create or overwrite an existing
Oracle tablespace REQUIRES that the database already
be configured to support the AL32UTF-8 UNICODE character set.

If you are upgrading an existing database to use UNICODE, the database
must already be configured to support the UNICODE character set.

Do you want to use the UNICODE character set? [n] y

*** Your current locale (C) is not Unicode and you are asking for
*** a Unicode install. Please adjust your LANG and LC_ALL variables.

*** You can either change your UNICODE option or abort the
*** installation to adjust your LANG and LC_ALL variables.
Do you want to abort the installation? [n]

I couldn't move on with the installation because it keeps asking the same
question as above if I choose not to abort the installation. I had to
abort installation.

I discussed this with my DBA and he sent me the database creation SQL
statement as following:

CREATE DATABASE rmdytst1
MAXINSTANCES 8
MAXLOGHISTORY 1
MAXLOGFILES 16
MAXLOGMEMBERS 3
MAXDATAFILES 100
DATAFILE '/data/oradata/rmdytst1/db01/system_01.dbf' SIZE 800M REUSE

SMALLFILE UNDO TABLESPACE UNDOTBS1
DATAFILE '/data/oradata/rmdytst1/db01/undotbs_01.dbf' SIZE 400M REUSE
CHARACTER SET US7ASCII NATIONAL CHARACTER SET UTF8

Is character set specified in the SQL statement correct for UNICODE? If
not, what's the right SQL statement? My DBA thinks that AL32UTF-8 is a
subset of UTF8, but should he change it to AL32UTF-8 during the initial
database creation?

I am installing ARS 7.0 on a Solaris 9 box with Oracle 10gR2. I am
having a
couple of issues:

1. If we don't get ARSystem table space created prior to the
installation, we get the following error:

An unknown Oracle error has been detected.
Please resolve this error and re-try the installation.
Refer to /tmp/arDBErrorLog for the Oracle error information.

I checked /tmp/arDBErrorLog, it only has a time stamp, no other error
details.

After the DBA created ARSystem table space, we were able to move on
with
the
installation. Remedy Tech Support recommends not to create ARSystem
prior to installation. If you have done ARS 7 installation with Oracle
10gR2,
did
you have to create ARSystem table space prior to installation?
If you didn't create ARSystem table first, what's the default table
space for ARAdmin?

2. We got the following after we chose to use UNICODE:

Selecting UNICODE to create or overwrite an existing Oracle tablespace
REQUIRES that the database already be configured to support the
AL32UTF-8 UNICODE character set.

If you are upgrading an existing database to use UNICODE, the database
must
already be configured to support the UNICODE character set.

I couldn't move on with the installation because it keeps asking the
same question as above if I choose not to abort the installation. I
had to
abort
installation.

I discussed this with my DBA and he sent me the database creation SQL
statement as following:

CREATE DATABASE rmdytst1
MAXINSTANCES 8
MAXLOGHISTORY 1
MAXLOGFILES 16
MAXLOGMEMBERS 3
MAXDATAFILES 100
DATAFILE '/data/oradata/rmdytst1/db01/system_01.dbf' SIZE 800M REUSE
EXTENT
MANAGEMENT LOCAL SYSAUX
DATAFILE '/data/oradata/rmdytst1/db01/sysaux_01.dbf'
SIZE 500M REUSE SMALLFILE DEFAULT TEMPORARY TABLESPACE TEMP TEMPFILE
'/data/oradata/rmdytst1/db01/temp_01.dbf' SIZE 400M REUSE SMALLFILE
UNDO TABLESPACE UNDOTBS1
DATAFILE '/data/oradata/rmdytst1/db01/undotbs_01.dbf' SIZE 400M REUSE
CHARACTER SET US7ASCII NATIONAL CHARACTER SET UTF8

Is character set specified in the SQL statement correct for UNICODE?
If not, what's the right SQL statement? My DBA thinks that AL32UTF-8
is a subset of UTF8, but should he change it to AL32UTF-8 during the
initial database creation?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I've recently returned from the AR Administrator 7.0 course but neglected to
ask a very important perhaps even simple question? What is the affect on the
underlying database when the state of deployable application moves from
state to state. Will the fields be created and/or removed within the
database? Are special tables be created based on the application's state?

Re: Question: Disable ODBC

2006-09-06 Thread Jason Miller

Tyrone, absolutely you can restrict everybody except admins. That is the beauty of it, you have the flexibility of any query that can be run in a filter Run If.Firing on every get entry is definitely something to take into consideration and was one of my concerns. I figured since it is not a query to the db it wasn't too much of a performance hit for my situation (it is still an API call to the server each time you view a record but there are going to be other various API calls anyways when you view a record). Plus I didn't know about the Disable-Client-Operations option.
Thanks for the Disable-Client-Operation. This looks like an awesome feature that I will play with. You could actually get to the user level by creating a computed group and specify login names (or a mix of login names and groups). Depending on the size of your system and the way you have your groups setup it could become a maintenance burden to make sure all new users are properly restricted.
I guess this is were the get entry filter option has a bit more flexibility because you can disable everybody as a baseline and enable ODBC operations for a group with a NOT statement (i.e. NOT $GROUPS$ LIKE % + Administrator + % versus having to disable each group individually using the config file. But even then you could have a computed group with all groups except the Admin group to use with the Disable-Client-Operation. Many ways to do it (I love ARS).

Jason's Get Entry filter option does go to one level more granular (tothe user not a group) and has the added performance expense of beingevaluated for every data row returned from the form. (Even for the

I don't know, but think you will have to export all of the data in the database, recreate it and then import the data back in so that it will be converted to UNICODE.

US7ASCII supports 7 bit characters. For US English users in the United
States, this could suffice.
If you are going anywhere other try WE8ISO8859P1 character set it
supports most Europeen languages. This is the Oracle default character
set and can support 8 bit characters.

Hi all,

Because some workflow had the wrong qualification from a previous
developer, 15,000 tickets were generated. We left off at 7,000 and now we
are at 22,000. Isn't there a way thru SQLto reset the value of the
HPD to 7,000 so Remedy goes to set the next ID, it will think the last ID is
7,000. We also want to rename the HPD tickets created today with a 7,000
value within the database.

Our case ID is C1, I can find out the t table, I am just not sure which
command I would enter to modify the rows in the database. And if this will
present problems later. I know the users will be referencing the wrong
ticket number. We definitely do not want to be at 22,000.

Business Hours tag - Dynamic reference to group tags

2006-09-06 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Hello,

Issue is, SLA 6.0, we're looking to leverage business hours tags for
40+ groups, we don't want to have dozens of SLA's to accomplish this.
The Group/Idividual business hours tag is tied to each SLA on a one to
one basis, we need to be able to pass the group (on task) into the SLA
during creation. Anyone seen an easy way to accomplish this?

Please excuse my SLA

Problem:
We have multiple

SLA. Only one business time tag entry is allowed on an SLA. How can I overcome
this?

How can I configure
an SLA so that groups with different business hours tags can use the same SLA?
Do I just create multiple SLA's referencing each business time
tag?

Is offset hours the
answer?

How do I overcome a a virtual group spanning multiple
time zones using the same business time tag of 8am-5pm?

Ex. I don't want a group member in eastern time to
"losethree hours" if a case with SLAin progresis created in
Pacific Time and Eastern Team Member has gone home for the

Some teams also
operate on different business hours within the same time zone and I want them to

I like to run the following statement before and after Lisa's command to make sure the change is effective

select name, nextId from aradmin.arschema where name = 'CHG:Task';

Initially you'll see what the system says is nextId, and then after the update you should see what you have now defined as the nextId

You are deleting all of those autogenerated tickets before you're resetting the ID or you will have unique record errors upon the creation of a ticket after the id is reset.

Sorry, didn't notice you want to renumber some existing tickets for today. If you're using something that uses the SHR:Consolidated form you need to make sure those records are updated also.

Sounds like you may need a temporary field to hold the existing ID before any changes are made to that field if it is referenced in other forms or you loose that connection. You could make this visible for reference if a customer provides that number also.

Hi all,

Because some workflow had the wrong qualification from a previous developer, 15,000 tickets were generated. We left off at 7,000 and now we are at 22,000. Isn't there a way thru SQLto reset the value of the HPD to 7,000 so Remedy goes to set the next ID, it will think the last ID is 7,000. We also want to rename the HPD tickets created today with a 7,000 value within the database.

Our case ID is C1, I can find out the t table, I am just not sure which command I would enter to modify the rows in the database. And if this will present problems later. I know the users will be referencing the wrong ticket number. We definitely do not want to be at 22,000.

Susan:

You said it. Please delete the autogenerated tickets and any created after this BEFORE resetting the nextid or you will not be able to input any new entries. This cannot be stressed enough. I have done this and had users jumping up and down on my desk while I was trying to fix it.

I suggest practicing on your development server before doing this on a production system unless you have reset the nextid on another form.

I like to run the following statement before and after Lisa's command to make sure the change is effective

select name, nextId from aradmin.arschema where name = 'CHG:Task';

Initially you'll see what the system says is nextId, and then after the update you should see what you have now defined as the nextId

You are deleting all of those autogenerated tickets before you're resetting the ID or you will have unique record errors upon the creation of a ticket after the id is reset.

  Hello, All!

I am installing ARS 7.0 on a Solaris 9 box with Oracle 10gR2. I am
  having a
  couple of issues:

  1. If we don't get ARSystem table space created prior to the
 installation,
  we get the following error:

An unknown Oracle error has been detected.
Please resolve this error and re-try the installation.
Refer to /tmp/arDBErrorLog for the Oracle error information.

I checked /tmp/arDBErrorLog, it only has a time stamp, no other
  error details.

After the DBA created ARSystem table space, we were able to move on
 with
  the
installation. Remedy Tech Support recommends not to create ARSystem
 prior
to installation. If you have done ARS 7 installation with Oracle
 10gR2,
  did
you have to create ARSystem table space prior to installation?
If you didn't create ARSystem table first, what's the default table
 space
  for ARAdmin?

  2. We got the following after we chose to use UNICODE:

Selecting UNICODE to create or overwrite an existing Oracle
tablespace REQUIRES that the database already be configured to
  support the
 AL32UTF-8
  UNICODE character set.

If you are upgrading an existing database to use UNICODE, the
  database
  must
already be configured to support the UNICODE character set.

I couldn't move on with the installation because it keeps asking the
 same
question as above if I choose not to abort the installation. I had
  to
  abort
  installation.

I discussed this with my DBA and he sent me the database creation
  SQL statement as following:

  CREATE DATABASE rmdytst1
  MAXINSTANCES 8
  MAXLOGHISTORY 1
  MAXLOGFILES 16

Hello Listers,
Please excuse my SLA
newbie questions. Irecently was assignedSLA Module 6.0 Out of

important Demo in the morning.

Problem:
We have multiple
groups eachwith different business time tags that want to use the same

Ex. I don't want a group member in eastern time to
"losethree hours" if a case with SLAin progresis created in
Pacific Time and Eastern Team Member has gone home for the
day.

Some teams also
operate on different business hours within the same time zone and I want them to
be able to use the same SLA, but with different business time
tags.

Thanks in

You did not mention what database you are using but you might want to put either single or double quotes around your $ variables.I'll assume since I see the ; at the end that you are on Oracle. Try:
update T418 set C535478792 = '$Secondary email$' where C1 = '$Case
ID+$';Keep in mind that your a re pointing at the tables and the table number may not be the same from prod to dev to staging. You might try using the View names instead.

1. create an entry in Business time for each group with their hours and any offset from your server

2. create a filter on the helpdesk form that will populate the time fields on the form with the groups time and offset. be sure the filter fires prior to the SLA being set.

3. this will only work on the initial create if the group is changed the SLA stays attached. If you need this to change additinal WF would be needed.

Hello Listers,

Please excuse my SLA newbie questions. Irecently was assignedSLA Module 6.0 Out of the Box and don't know how to overcome some of these obstacles and have an important Demo in the morning.

Problem:

We have multiple groups eachwith different business time tags that want to use the same SLA. Only one business time tag entry is allowed on an SLA. How can I overcome this?

How can I configure an SLA so that groups with different business hours tags can use the same SLA? Do I just create multiple SLA's referencing each business time tag?

Is offset hours the answer?

How do I overcome a a virtual group spanning multiple time zones using the same business time tag of 8am-5pm?

Ex. I don't want a group member in eastern time to "losethree hours" if a case with SLAin progresis created in Pacific Time and Eastern Team Member has gone home for the day.

Some teams also operate on different business hours within the same time zone and I want them to be able to use the same SLA, but with different business time tags.

Thanks in advance!

I am sure this will be just one of many
recommendations to not try to renumber your existing tickets using sql. There
are way too many pitfalls. James suggestion to export out your current

And by doing the import with new ID's those Consolidated records will get created properly since these will be new creations. Trying to synch everything up is a headache to say the least. BUT, delete the old records before importing. You'll have them in the export (arx) file which I generally make two exports for a situation like this.

Map out what you want to do, think it over slowly, determine what could go wrong, change the plan if necessary, make copies of everything, then go for it. And make sure that offending workflow is corrected or disabled.

Good luck ... let us know how it turns out

Re: Increase Performance Remedy 6

2006-09-06 Thread Sean Garrison
I know they did some oracle specific settings to make it faster:

Server-Side-Table-Chunk-Size: 1
Next-ID-Commit: T
Oracle-Cursor-Sharing: FORCE
Oracle-Search-On-Clob: T
Oracle-Bulk-Fetch-Count: 100
Clustered-Index: T

I am not sure about DB2 you will have to look at the Configuring AR
System manual.

Also you need to look at your workflow to make sure everything is running on
an index. Remedy Developer plus can help with that. We no longer run help
desk here but if I remember right not everything was indexed properly. Also
you might want to encourage users to uncheck the Refresh Contents on
Display this helps when refreshing tables when you click from record to
record. In addition training users to build searches that are indexed helps
a lot.

Thanks,

Sean

I spoke too soon in my previous message. The Demo user was
removed some time in the past. I have exported all related objects to my form

Demo.

 I'm running 5.1.2 on
Windows 2000, MS-SQL 2000 and I'm seeing inconsistent results from a
notification e-mail that is sent by a filter. The filter fires on Submit and one
of the fields in the body of the e-mail is set to Submitter. Most of the time it
populates the correct user name but I've now seen a couple e-mails go out with
Demo as the username.
 When I check that
ticket I see the correct username in the status history and work log so I'm
puzzled as to why it would substitute Demo at all. The frustrating part is that
I have two e-mails sent within ten minutes of each other and one shows the
correct user name and the other shows Demo for the Submitter field.
 Any clues as to why
this might happen?

SOLVED: Oddity with Submitter field in e-mail notifications

2006-09-06 Thread Rick Westbrock
Title: RE: Oddity with Submitter field in e-mail notifications
**

Eureka! I discovered that the "Create New Ticket" button on
our help desk splash screen is calling a macro named OpenNewTicketHD and
embedded in that macro is "536870928=Demo" where that field number is that of
the Submitter field. That is a piece of workflow that I inherited and didn't
know about until just now.

I can't for the life of me understand why Demo was
hard-coded in the macro; when I ran a test on the dev server opening a new
ticket with that button it set Submitter to Demo and a field called Submitted By
to my username.

I know that I can write brand-new workflow for the button
to open a new ticket (all it does is open the HD form in submit mode and
pre-populate a couple of fields) so that is likely going to be my long term
solution. For the short-term I will just change my notification e-mail to send
the Submitted By field instead of Submitter.

Thanks to everyone who made suggestions, I will definitely
remember them for future troubleshooting of other issues.

Integrating Remedy with Outlook

2006-09-06 Thread Rodney Harris
**

Hi All,

Im looking at using a product called Genius Connect (or
similar) to link our custom Remedy V7 CRM system to Outlook. The functionality
we require is the ability for our sales force to use Outlook as their contact
list, calendar and task list while retaining compatibility with our CRM. Has
anyone done anything like this?

This is how Im planning to do it.

1. When the user has an internet connection, Outlook
synchronises with the Exchange server via HTTP or straight IP. The users use
the offline cache feature of Outlook to retain access to their data when not
connected.

2. A server runs Outlook with Genius connect installed and
connects to each mailbox that we want synchronised. Periodically Genius Connect
synchronises the Outlook mailboxes with an SQL database on the same server as
our Remedy database via ODBC.

3. The Remedy server runs escalations that read and write to
the intermediate SQL server tables. The intermediate tables allow for date
conversions and allow Remedy to retain full control of its database. Remedy can
read from the SQL tables via View Forms and write to them via direct SQL.

Is there a better way than this to do what we want? Has anyone
done anything similar and would they share their experiences with me?

Thanks,

Rod Harris
