Web service

2008-03-11 Thread Saravanan Palaniappan

Hi all,

I am trying to publish a web service using a get operation and my
intention is to get the most recent record of my search.

I have been trying a lot with the qualification field in the web service
example: 'EMP ID' = XPATH(/ROOT/EMP_ID), but couldn't succeed in it.

This particular qualification results in showing the first matching
request rather than the recent request...

Could some one please help me on this?

One more question:

How could we use this qualification in the webservie for any operation?
Could you explain with some example?

Hi Saravanan,

Get operation would return a single record depending on the
qualification. You could probably add few more fields in the
qualification to fetch the right record.

Re: Quick update on AR System 7.5.00

2008-03-11 Thread Carey Matthew Black
Daniel,

Extensions sound good. ( Which I will assume means Eclipse plugin
development based on a published interface from the new Admin Tool.
Er... "ARS Developers Studio"?)

However what I think would be very, very cool for BMC to do is draw
the thick line at the API layer and let us into the Client layer. They
have to control and maintain the API. However it has always been
possible for someone to use the API and write their own Admin Tool. (
And some people have done that in various forms/degrees. Look at what
people like http://www.abydos-workflow.com/ have done with their
Abydos Designer product. Look at what ARSDocs does for the
community... and there are many other tools/companies that are in wide
use in the community too.)

If BMC was to adopt that approach then we just might see an "open
sourced ARS IDE" some day. We could share in the full
development/improvement of the clients (AdminTool, Mid-tier, Import
Tool, Alert Tool) and BMC would be focused on the framework, in the
form of the Server and the API.

Maybe someday, but I really doubt 7.5 will be that day. (But here is
to the future May it bring prosperity to all, and well defined
business driven requirements too. :)

Email process hanging occasionally - no apparent cause

2008-03-11 Thread J.T. Shyman
Hello ARSers,

ARS 7.0.1 Patch 5

Email Engine 7.0.1 Patch 5

RedHat Linux

Remote Oracle 10 DB

We have the above configuration logging into an IMAP mailbox every two
minutes to get and process inbound email. Every so often the process stops
checking the inbox for messages and it requires a kill of the java process
running the email jar file to start it up again. The logs do not appear to
show any cause for this behavior.

Has anyone run into this before and/or does anyone have any suggestions on
how we can either detect this situation and prevent it or work around it?

Thanks!

Saravanan,

Basically, I think your solution can be found beyond what ARS web Services does.

I think the problem that you have is the sort order of the form that
your querying.

If you can not change the sort order on the form directly (due to
breaking existing functionality) then I think you can create a self
Join (A join of the form with itself.) and set the sort order on the
Join. Then point the Web Service to the Join to get the answer your
after.

Another option would be to "keep a high water mark" in one row in a
special table that you would then query instead of the "source data"
form. ( Like the way the arschema table is used for 'Request ID'
values.)

Re: Web service

2008-03-11 Thread Sharma, Tarun
Saravanan,

You can create a new integer field (say recent_flag) on your form set a
default value as 0. And then make a filter on submit and Modify(if
change is possible in emp name) to check if Employee Name already exist
in same form then increase the value of existing entries by 1 every time
by using push field action with modify all option.

So in this scenario you will always get recent_flag value 0 in your most
recent entry. You can always use this recent_flag=0 in your web service
qualification.

Guest users only get Read license

2008-03-11 Thread Dwayne Martin
Hello Everyone,

We have users without Remedy accounts (no record in the User form) who are
nevertheless “Submitter” in certain call entries. We want them to be able to
go in and modify these requests. I am pretty sure they used to be able to do
it. But now I have a user who logs in but only gets a “read” license, so she
can’t do what she needs to do. (It isn't just a temporary read. There are
plenty of read licenses available.)

I think that guest users used to get “Floating” licenses, but am not totally
sure. We have “Allow Guest Users” checked in the configuration. The default
value for license type in the User form is “License Type” default value is
“Floating”. (That shouldn’t make any difference, but I am grasping at straws.)

The user is logging in via Mid-Tier, which also shouldn’t make any difference.
I gave her a Remedy account, and now she gets a Floating license when she logs
in. But I don’t want to give all our potential users Remedy accounts. That
defeats the whole purpose of the “Submitter” permission group.

Any suggestions?

Re: Issue with OpGetList web service

2008-03-11 Thread Carey Matthew Black
I think you need to do something more like this sample.

BTW: It generally helps if you tell us what ARS version your using and
if your using any of the ITSM applications. (Your web service def file
by itself does not really help much.)

Basically you did not have a mapping to a list of elements in the
return ("Output Mapping..."). So the web serivce was only returning
the first record found.

As far as the startRecord and maxLimit ideas... they are not required
(and in fact new in 7.1 for ARS WebService objects) but they have
their uses. If you do not have them in the "Input Mapping..." then I
would suggest removing them from the ARS WebService definition object
too. ( I hope that would be less confusing for the system.)

I never knew they provided this. I always wrote one myself.

Just do a display only form, two unlimited length character fields.

The first field is where you put your query. Add a button that does a

Viola!

Also, put a view form out on top of arschema to save you from
constructing a select name, schemaid from arschema where name = "blah"

It was a little DEF file that contained a form called "SQL form" and
some active links. It just let you do simple SQL from a Remedy
display-only window. I don't know who developed it but it was a nice
end-run around environments where you don't have direct access to
database and want to do some queries (like checking what form the "T"
number was in SQL logs)

On my "to do" list was to write an updated version of itmight have

Re: Guest users only get Read license

2008-03-11 Thread Timothy Powell
Since you're grasping at straws, I'll do the same.

1) Is this only happening to one user?
2) If yes, how is the user logging in? Since you allow guest users, they can
log in as "Jane Smith", JSmith, etc. Or maybe you have a company policy that
says you log in using your corporate ID which might be something like
CompanyInitialsLastnameFirstinitial; "XYZCorpSmithJ". I noticed that you
mentioned "she". Did she recently have a name change (marriage/divorce) so
that now her login might be "XYZCorpJonesJ"? So, have you verified that the
user name she is logging in with exactly matches the value in the Submitter
field for the ticket she is trying to modify?

Re: Service Level Management

2008-03-11 Thread William Rentfrow
I can tell you from experience you want to be very careful with this and
try to consolidate service targets and then use reporting to quantify
the results.

For example - if you have a 8-hour resolution time for email inbound
Incidents for one group and a 8-hour resolution time for phone call for
another group you're best off doing 1 Service Target and then doing
reporting on the results based on the incoming contact medium.

That is of course a simplistic example but you would want to do this as
much as possible - keep the service targets broad and the results
reportable.

Bill,

Here is the path on BMCDN for this utility.

BMCDN Home > Resource Center> Downloads> BMC Atrium & Foundation

The URL is:

Remember the two rules for finding any AR System related utilities on BMCDN.

1. You must log in.

Re: Service Level Management

2008-03-11 Thread Rami Ayoub
The only issue you will face when you create a lot of service targets

The main table for the service target there is limit to display the entry as
I remember 55 or something like that

Open the form in Administrator tools then increases the rows of that
table... Then no problem you can add infinite numbers of Service Targets.

Ramy

SQL Server 2005 Dbase Error

2008-03-11 Thread Jase Brandon
Hello All,
ITSM 7.0.01
SQL Server 2005

We are getting the strangest error in the sql logs, trying to reference the
table "spt_server_info".
I have spoken with our DBA and he said this table only existed in SQL Server
2000 and not in 2005.
Has anyone seen anything like this? I don't know how to proceed. Any and all
comments/questions are appreciated.

Thanks,

Jase Brandon

Re: Track time on how long the ticket was on a group's queue

2008-03-11 Thread Rocky -
I followed your instructions and I was able to get the value of the Total
Queue Time but the Que Time Minutes always gets a value of "0" and the
Character field for days/hours/mins gets 00/00/00. I don't know what I'm
missing.

I set the values exactly as you did:
Queue Time Days = TRUNC($Total Queue Time$ / 86400)
Queue Time Hours = TRUNC((($Total Queue Time$ / 86400) - $Queue Time
Days$) * 24)
Queue Time Minutes = $Total Queue Time$ / 86400) - $Queue Time
Days$) * 24) - $Queue Time Hours$) * 60

Thanks for your help!

I got it! I was doing the set the fields all at the same time. I set the 1st
action to set field for the Total Que Time then another action to set the

Re: Guest users only get Read license

2008-03-11 Thread Dwayne Martin
Tim,

I am looking at the "Manage User License" panel, and I see that when the user
logs in she gets a "Read" license (or did before I gave her an account.) That
is set before she tries to make any changes.

Even if somebody logs in as "wxyz" they should get a "Floating" license. After
that they would only be able to modify forms in which they are "Submitter".
But they can't do anything if they only get a "Read" license.

newScale and Remedy

2008-03-11 Thread Scott Philben
All:

The archives are pretty thin so I will ask it again (in case anyone has new
information)

Is anyone doing anything with newScale and it's Remedy integration? How does it
compare to Remedy's SRM? Does anyone recommend one over the other?

If anyone has any knowledge they want to impart, please let me know.

Question: Overview Console - Assignee

2008-03-11 Thread T. Dee
I have added a couple of new fields to the Overview Console with no problems.

However, the users want to see "Assignee" on the Overview Console.
The problem is the Database ID for Change, Help Desk and Task is not
the same.

Has anyone added Assignee to their Overview Console?

Thanks!

Re: Guest users only get Read license (U)

2008-03-11 Thread Hennigan, Sandra H CTR OSD-CIO
UNCLASSIFIED

"Allow Guest Users" means that every login is accepted; the login
doesn't have to match a Remedy login name.

Submitter Lock Mode means no change can be made to the original
submitter. Remedy allows the submitter to modify tickets submitted by
him/her but cannot modify other tickets without being assigned a Fixed
or Floating license.

A current user, with a Read license, can modify tickets where he/she is
the submitter. Just because you can successfully log in, doesn't mean
that you can modify.

When your user logged in originally (before you assigned her a Floating
License), and could not modify a ticket, was her Remedy login name being
used and did it match the submitter name on the tickets she was trying
to modify?

Re: Guest users only get Read license (U)

2008-03-11 Thread Dwayne Martin
Hi Sandra,

Re:"A current user, with a Read license, can modify tickets where he/she is the
submitter."

I made one our "test" logins the submitter to a form, and gave her a "Read"
license. Then I logged in as the "test" person- and was able to modify the
form! So you are right! I've learned something. Mainly that giving my user a
Remedy account was a waste of effort. Something else must have gone wrong.

She couldn't have logged in as someone else. People without Remedy accounts
have to LDAP authenticate. So maybe this issue will have to remain one of
life's mysteries.

Thanks to all who replied.

Re: Guest users only get Read license

2008-03-11 Thread Timothy Powell
Incorrect.

With Submitter Mode set to Locked, a person with a "Read" license can submit
AND modify their tickets (where the login name they are logged in as = the
value in the Submitter field). The error comes when they have a "read"
license and they try to modify a ticket where their login name is not in the
Submitter field.

Floating licenses are not automatically issued to guest users, read licenses
are. Floating licenses are specifically issued to defined user accounts by
an administrator. So if somebody logged in as wxyz will not get a floating
license unless an administrator has created a specific user record with a
login name of wxyz and issued them a floating license.

As a general rule, a floating license will allow a user to modify any
ticket, or course provided that they aren't restricted by administrator
defined permission groups or custom workflow.

Tim,

I am looking at the "Manage User License" panel, and I see that when the
user logs in she gets a "Read" license (or did before I gave her an
account.) That is set before she tries to make any changes.

Even if somebody logs in as "wxyz" they should get a "Floating" license.
After that they would only be able to modify forms in which they are
"Submitter". But they can't do anything if they only get a "Read" license.

Hi Sandra,

Re:"A current user, with a Read license, can modify tickets where he/she is
the submitter."

I made one our "test" logins the submitter to a form, and gave her a "Read"
license. Then I logged in as the "test" person- and was able to modify the
form! So you are right! I've learned something. Mainly that giving my
user a Remedy account was a waste of effort. Something else must have gone
wrong.

She couldn't have logged in as someone else. People without Remedy accounts
have to LDAP authenticate. So maybe this issue will have to remain one of
life's mysteries.

Thanks to all who replied.

If you are trying to see the database, or epoch value, then do a set fields

It was a little DEF file that contained a form called "SQL form" and some
active links. It just let you do simple SQL from a Remedy display-only
window. I don't know who developed it but it was a nice end-run around
environments where you don't have direct access to database and want to do
some queries (like checking what form the "T" number was in SQL logs)

On my "to do" list was to write an updated version of itmight have to
bump that up a few notches...

Is this user found in LDAP?

Look at your LDAP form settings. The default write
license must have been set to "Read" .
In such a case if the user is not found in ldap, Read
license is assigned to that user.

Mohan

It was a little DEF file that contained a form called "SQL form"
and some active links. It just let you do simple SQL from a Remedy
display-only window. I don't know who developed it but it was a nice
end-run around environments where you don't have direct access to
database and want to do some queries (like checking what form the "T"
number was in SQL logs)

On my "to do" list was to write an updated version of
itmight have to bump that up a few notches...

Re: newScale and Remedy

2008-03-11 Thread Joe D'Souza
Pretty new to newScale here too, but one of the things we have observed here
in your environment is that it tends to leave open database connections.
Everytime it polls it opens a new connection and leaves it open at the end
and does not re-use it.

Reminds me of what EIE did, I hear AIE has been fixed as far as that is
concerned. But at least in case of EIE, there was a service we use a batch
file to turn off when not needed which used to kill the database connection.
In case of newScale that is not really an option as the ideal thing to do is
leave it running so the Remedy database and the newScale database is most
current at all times..

Is anyone doing anything with newScale and it's Remedy integration? How does
it compare to Remedy's SRM? Does anyone recommend one over the other?

If anyone has any knowledge they want to impart, please let me know.

Guest Access for Email submission in ARS 7.1

2008-03-11 Thread Ron Legters
I've just upgraded my dev server to 7.1, and the email submissions have
stopped working. My production box is 7.0.1, and it's working there.

We have users fill out a form on our Domino-based intranet site, and
Domino generates an email message to ARS. The login is a generic login
that doesn't have a People or User record. According to the doc, this
shouldn't work, but it does on my prod 7.0.1 box.

In dev, when ARS processes the incoming message, I get error 8932 'You
do not have write license' and 332 'You do not have write access (at
create time) to field 1'. This makes sense according to the doc. When I
create a person and user record for the generic login, though, I still
get error 332. I've given Mr. Generic a read license, then a floating
license, then added him to the group 'APP-Support', and I still get
error 332.

As I write this, I realize that in all of these attempts, Mr. Generic
has not had a password. Could this be the problem? Is 7.1 pickier about
passwords than 7.0.1?

Both systems are running HelpDesk 6.0 if that matters.

Thanks,

Cisco CSS load balancer config?

2008-03-11 Thread Anderson, Douglas W.

Hello ARSList,

One of my colleagues has the delightful opportunity to configure a Cisco
Content Services Switch (CSS) load balancer in front of two ARS servers.

He is looking at the initial part of the CSS config script which appears as
follows.

!*** GLOBAL ***
username admin1 des-password superuser
username admin2 des-password superuser
username admin3 des-password superuser

What he cannot find in either the BMC or Cisco documentation is what those
three lines of the script mean. Are admin1, admin2, admin3 ARS account names?
If so, how ought they to be configured? If not, what are they? What needs to be
done about them?

Cisco support suggests that part of the script is specific to BMC's ARS, so
Cisco cannot help interpret them.

BMC's support has so far been responsive in that he has received replies but
unresponsive in that the replies did not meaningfully address his inquiry.

His environment is ARS 7.1 on Windows OS & MS SQL. It's a Cisco CSS11503.

If you have already solved this puzzle, perhaps you could share the secrets?

Many thanks,
Doug Anderson

runmacro.exe

2008-03-11 Thread Opela, Gary L Contr OC-ALC/ITMA
I have a customer that uses runmacro.exe to submit tickets. Part of what
he's sending me is short description. Randomly, he will receive an error
saying short description is required, and that he left it blank.
However, he is clearly putting data in it.

This particular ticket we're looking at, the user has put => a bunch in
the short description. We are wondering if this is what would have
caused the issue.

Does anyone have any feedback on characters you cannot put in the value
of a field for runmacro.exe?

Re: Question: Overview Console - Assignee

2008-03-11 Thread Brandi Barbour
You must add the entries to the SHR:ARDBCFields form for each field of
the 3 forms and map them to the same field. So you will have 3
different entries for the Assignee field. One for each form. Once you
do that you add the Assignee field to the table in the Overview Console
with public permissions then restart the plugin.

However, the users want to see "Assignee" on the Overview Console.
The problem is the Database ID for Change, Help Desk and Task is not the

Has anyone added Assignee to their Overview Console?

Re: SQL Server 2005 Dbase Error

I remember getting that error too and I think the reason for it was the MS
SQL server was being accessed through the 2000 libraries.. What version of
the MS SQL client have you got installed..

Remedy Reporting

2008-03-11 Thread Kathy Morris
Hi All,

I have an active link that opens the window on "Report".
Lets say on the IF action, the Form Name field has "$z2B Report Form$.
There is no Report Form on our server with this name so how is this workflow
derived? Then lets say the view is "$z2B Report View$.

Usually I specify a form, however in this case I am leveraging pre-existing
workflow. What does this mean?

ITSM7/BMC Data Loader--Extra Precaution

2008-03-11 Thread McClure, Don
We have just determined another 'feature' in subject tool. Details:

Column BG of '02 CTM-People', located in People.xls, designates 'Unrestricted
Access'.
Column is NOT color-coded, and specifically labelled optional; further
instructions
declare, it must be entered as "0" or "Yes" if used. We imported ca 250 users
to various
companies/organizations in a multi-tenancy environment, leaving this column
blank (and re-checking the *.csv to make certain it was, indeed, blank!).

To our surprise, these users were created with Unrestricted Access in their
USER record, even though CTM:People displayed the related box as unchecked--
in fact, CTM:People showing no groups at all. Further, the import/promote
scheme did
NOT assign the expected 'Global Access' group--with its attendant 'modify field'
disconnects. I do realize that our importation of people intending to make
them support
staff, without creating templates first, is inconsistent with instructions for
this product.

On prolonged usage, this product reminds me of a frequent note I've heard, as
aircrew,
from air traffic controllers: "Aircraft ZZ, cleared for takeoff. Caution, wake
turbulence
from departing , parallel runway, one mile in lead". Aircrew is
legal for
takeoff, all right, but CRAZY to actually use that clearance without waiting at
least
three minutes for the wake turbulence to settle!

Kathy,
I believe that means it is pulling the form/view names from a character field
reference on the current form that the active link is attached to. These are
most likely display-only character fields.

Re: Guest users only get Read license (U)

2008-03-11 Thread Mohan Panchangmath
NO. She wont get that message.

If she is not in LDAP and if you have default
permission set up in LDAP configuration for users not
found in LDAP with "authorizing unregistered users"
turned ON then they will get into Remedy with that
default permission and they wont see the error message
"Unable to log into any server."

Besides that, is she a guest user??
If users are NOT assigned a fixed or floating license,
they will automatically use a read license by default.
Guest users will automatically use a read license.

Thanks,
Mohan

Re: Convert string to Date/Time

2008-03-11 Thread Thomas Bean

Hi Guillermo,
In order for the date to be converted correctly from the character field to
the date/time field, the format of the date string probably needs to match
the format you are seeing in the date/time field. So, if the date/time is
showing up under this format:

12/31/69 18:00:11

Then your original date string probably needs to be in this format to be
converted correctly:

MM/DD/YY HH:MM:SS (24-hour format *without* am/pm)

Re: SQL Server 2005 Dbase Error

2008-03-11 Thread Joe D'Souza
Yes it is, this object has been removed in MS-SQL 2005.

https://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=229015&SiteID=1

It is looking for this perhaps because the AR System server was installed on
MS-SQL 2000, and the database was later upgraded. Two things you can do to
resolve this.. Install the MS-SQL 2005 client. If this doesn't resolve your
problem, run the upgrade the AR Server and this would install any 2005
specific libraries if that is missing..

What qualifications should I use for the filter that sets the time in and

I can get it to work just fine up until if the ticket gets resolved and when
it gets reassigned it doesn't track the time in and time out properly.

Actually, I haven't checked SRM 2.1. They may have added the integration. I
am sure it was not there in SRM 2.0.

The archives are pretty thin so I will ask it again (in case anyone has new
information)

Is anyone doing anything with newScale and it's Remedy integration? How does
it compare to Remedy's SRM? Does anyone recommend one over the other?

If anyone has any knowledge they want to impart, please let me know.

Thanks to All who replied. WeI just upgraded from 7.0.01 Unpatched to Patch

I suspect that it was using 2000 libraries and Patch 002 resolved.

Thanks Joe and Bill for your help!

Can't delete a user from CTM:People

2008-03-11 Thread Mary Dollus
Hi All,

I'm trying to delete some users out of the CTM:People form however I keep
getting the error ARERR (382) The value(s) for this entry violate a unique
index that has been identified for this form. I ran logs but can't find what
it's talking about... I even tried adding a new record and deleting it (which
works). The records I can't seem to delete were restored from another server.

Setting the status to Delete saved okay... it's just when I try to delete it.

I checked the "CTM:SupportGroupFunctionalRole", "CTM:Support Group Association"
and there are no entries for the users.

They do have entries in CTM:People, CTM:People Permission Groups, and User. If
I try to delete the user from any of these forms, I get the unique index
error... :(

Has anyone encountered this? If so, is there a way to resolve it? I have
over 7k records I need to dump and reload... but I have to delete them first.

Thanks!!!
Mary Dollus

Has anyone added fields to the Incident flow Process Flow Wizard

some insight :-) I have added several fields to the form but the
information that is available in the fields do not push the values back to
the HPD:HelpDesk form when the request is saved.

Re: Check ARS services from Unix shell script

2008-03-11 Thread Joe D'Souza
Conrad,

Whenever the arserverd has consumed more resources than average it doesn't
always mean it has hung. Try turning on the API/SQL combined logs during
such times. It could mean that the arserverd is waiting for available queues
for processing but there are no available queues. It could mean you are
falling short of fast or list threads.. A combined API/SQL logs would tell
you if this is the case from the time that it takes for the execution cycle
of an API from the time it is sent to the time a response is received.

What are your fast and list threads set to and what is the usage (number of
concurrent submits/modify operation, number of concurrent searches either
user induced searches or workflow induced) of your AR System?

To answer your question on a command or script to check if a AR System
process is hung, how would you do that? A process that has hung is still a
process. It is still running, and usually ends up hogging more server
resources (CPU utilization). However the same process may not be hung but
could utilize more than average resources when doing some DB intensive
tasks.

Does your AR System server terminate when you think it has hung??? Does the
armonitor service fail to restart it automatically after such a
termination??

Subject: Check ARS services from Unix shell script

**

Dear All,

I have a query regarding ARSystem services on a unix server.

I have a requirement wherein the remedy database needs to be
shutdown for a particular task. I have a shell script in place for this. It
does the following:

1) The shell script shuts down ARS services, checks for the message:
"Action Request System shutdown process complete"

2) Shuts down the DB, performs the task and restarts the DB.

3) Once the DB is up, ARS services is sta

Subject: Can't delete a user from CTM:People

**

Hi All,

I'm trying to delete some users out of the CTM:People form
however I keep getting the error ARERR (382) The value(s) for this entry
violate a unique index that has been identified for this form. I ran
logs but can't find what it's talking about... I even tried adding a
new record and deleting it (which works). The records I can't seem to
delete were restored from another server.

Setting the status to Delete saved okay... it's just when I try
to delete it.

I checked the "CTM:SupportGroupFunctionalRole", "CTM:Support
Group Association" and there are no entries for the users.

They do have entries in CTM:People, CTM:People Permission
Groups, and User. If I try to delete the user from any of these forms,
I get the unique index error... :-(

Has anyone encountered this? If so, is there a way to resolve
it? I have over 7k records I need to dump and reload... but I have to
delete them first.

Thanks!!!

Mary Dollus
