Migration Problems
Hi List, We are busy with a migration from a Sun 6000 environment with Solaris 5.8 to a SUN K25 with Solaris 5.10. The Database Oracle 9i runs on a separate server and was successfully migrated to the new K25 environment. Our current version of Remedy is 6.03 patch 13. We copied all the Remedy directories and files to the new server. The Remedy application starts up without errors but the arfork process takes up to 20 min to start up on the SUN K25 server. Due to response issues and the server hanging on the SUN K25 we had to switch back to the Sun 6000. Access to the server is fast at times but the server seems to lose communication with the database and hangs. The server name, Ip Address and network configuration is the same for both servers and access the Database goes through the same route. The following message appear in the arrerror.log file of the K25 Sun Aug 17 08:23:43 2008 390620 : SQL database is now available (ARNOTE 592) Sun Aug 17 08:23:57 2008 390620 : SQL database is now available (ARNOTE 592) Sun Aug 17 08:24:50 2008 390600 : SQL database is now available (ARNOTE 592) Sun Aug 17 08:24:50 2008 390600 : Failure during SQL operation to the database (ARERR 552) Sun Aug 17 08:24:50 2008 GetCheckIntervalTime() Sun Aug 17 08:24:50 2008 ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel Sun Aug 17 08:27:25 2008 390622 : SQL database is now available (ARNOTE 592) Sun Aug 17 08:38:07 2008 390635 : SQL database is now available (ARNOTE 592) Sun Aug 17 08:38:18 2008 390635 : SQL database is now available (ARNOTE 592) Sun Aug 17 08:43:45 2008 Dispatch : Timeout during database query -- consider using more specific search criteria to narrow the results, and retry the operation (saps3) ARERR - 94 Sun Aug 17 08:47:33 2008 390635 : SQL database is now available (ARNOTE 592) Sun Aug 17 08:47:41 2008 390620 : SQL database is now available (ARNOTE 592) Any help in resolving the issue or a different approach to do the migration would be appreciated. Re: importing data from sql to remedy
It's possible, although I've never used it for that purpose. The reason being that it's easy to set up a view form based on the SQL table outside of ARS that you want to pull data from, then use escalations and filters to pull that into the ARS tables you need. However, if you're talking about hundreds of thousands of records or more, with lots of updates to lots of tables (such as updating ITSM configuration data) then you are better off using something threaded like ARSPerl. VB can be used for that too, but I don't think it will be able to beat the speed of ARSPerl. Email Engine Does Not Work After Reboot
Hi everyone: Anyone ever seen this before? The Email Engine at a remote site I support is acting up. The service is set to automatic, but when the server is rebooted-even though the service says it's started-email does not flow. If the administrator restarts the service, however, the email flows and everything seems fine...until the server is rebooted. So restarting the service after a reboot fixes the problem, but why does the service hang after a reboot? Maybe related and maybe not: The site upgraded their JRE from 1.4.2_17 to 1.4.2_18 last week, and that's when the trouble started. Could just be a coincidence, but it's still highly suspect. Re: Email Engine Does Not Work After Reboot
We ran into this - basically the e-mail service was starting before the AR Server process so I guess the e-mail service never gets initialized properly but it carries on its way as if it did. We did our own registry edits to make the e-mail service dependant on the ar server service so that it would start up at the proper time and we haven't run into this problem anymore. If your e-mail service isn't on the same box as your ar server then this solution probably isn't for you. View form creation issue
Hey list, We're trying to pull data populated into a table by a product called TotalStorage Productivity Center. It's an IBM product that does server scanning to return information about drive space. The end goal is to use it to update values in the CMDB. A table was created in the ARS DB that is being populated by TPC. I'm attempting to create a view form to read from the table with the following columns: [GUID] [varchar](255) NULL, [COMPUTER_NAME] [varchar](255) NULL, [IP_ADDRESS] [varchar](30) NULL, [SERIAL_NUMBER] [varchar](100) NULL, [PROCESSOR_TYPE] [varchar](100) NULL, [OS_TYPE] [varchar](100) NULL, [OS_VERSION] [varchar](100) NULL, [MODEL] [varchar](100) NULL, [MANUFACTURER] [varchar](100) NULL, [DEDICATED] [float] NULL, [SHARED] [float] NULL, [SHARED_MANUFACTURER] [varchar](255) NULL, [LAST_SCAN_DATE] [varchar](50) NULL When creating the view form, the only two available columns are Dedicated and Shared (the floats). Nothing appears in the dropdown for a key field (I manually typed in GUID to create a form, but the other fields were not there and could not be added, and GUID wasn't there either). The table does contain data. Is there some issue with varchar or am I doing something incorrectly? According to the help files, varchar is supported: * Only the following data types are supported in view forms: * SQL Server-char, varchar, tinyint, smallint, int, text, real, float, decimal Should this be a vendor form, even though the table is already populated in our DB? 7.0.1 p6 SQL 2005 SP2 Win Server 2003 Thanks, Chris ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org Platinum Sponsor: www.rmsportal.com ARSlist: Where the Answers Are
Re: Email Engine Does Not Work After Reboot
I'm probably not the best person to ask since I don't like anything about the java architecture, but I think this is one of those things where the java app (AREmail) has been made to appear as a Windows service even though it really isn't one, so under the covers the EmailStart.bat is called when the service starts and that is what actually starts the application. Similar to the way Tomcat installs a wrapper around the app so that you can manage it as a Windows service even though it is not one. I do know that every time I have been required to update the JRE by our security folks - about the only time I will agree to do so after an installation - I have had to edit the path to the jre in the EmailStart.bat in order for it to work properly. I also had to edit the registry entry in HKLM\CurrentControlSet\BMC Remedy Email Engine - servername\Parameters\JVM Library, which shows the path to the jvm.dll. I know that I had to do this on 5.1.2 when they found major security problems in 1.4.x jre back in 2007... and I have edited both the EmailStart.bat and registry paths on 7.0 and 7.1 while testing systems over the past two years. Someone who understands java and AREmail better than I is welcome to correct me on this - I just try to keep it working reliably in a pure Windows Server environment, where java is always problematic. In your situation, where the service will start manually, it may not be the path but the mail service starting before ARS as Harry pointed out; in my experience if the path is the problem the service won't start manually, either. FYI, I think 7.1 is the first version where the installer actually makes the mail service dependent on the AR server service - where if you restart ARS it tells you that it is also going to restart the dependent mail service. Re: Asset Console Advanced Search
Thanks for the replies so for. I was thinking that ITSM was mis-handling the OR part of the query somehow. After more checking, that menu is built from a SYS form that handles the differences in the field label and the field database name. The users select the field label from the Advanced Search menu, but it inserts the database name into the query. For this one particular case, one of the value pairs in the SYS backend form is incorrect. It is Product Name=Model when it really should be Product Name=Model Number. Remedy (oops, BMC Remedy ITSM) doesn't know what field that is, and it returns a null set. Re: Custom crystal report to replace HPR: Incident Print
We found that the problem was with the crdb_odbc-verxi.dll. The client that was working had that dll. All other clients do not. Not sure why BMC did not include that file in the redistributables. We have added the file manually to 2 clients and all is well. Thane Price [EMAIL PROTECTED] 08/14/2008 11:48 AM To [EMAIL PROTECTED] cc Thane Price [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject Custom crystal report to replace HPR: Incident Print We have just implemented ITSM 7. Our service desk team would like more information on the incident print out. We've modified the existing report to add 3 subreports. The administrator creating the reports with Crystal 11 can see the reports fine on her machine when she clicks the print button. However, all other clients that try to print the report get an error Failed to load database information. Has anyone encountered this? I've checked the use underscores box as many have indicated but that does not help at all. All clients are using the crytal redistributables that come with the client install. We've not modified the ODBC drivers on either the administrators or other clients from that which was installed. We've been working this issue for days now and the troops are getting restless. Re: Loading Mappings failed: The import was not attempted- arimportcmd from the command line
A couple of other things to check firstly see if you can change to the directory via dos using the syntax you are using, sometimes you might need to truncate the directory path, if that is the problem I would suggest creating a directory called something like c:\import and renaming the import file to something less than 8 characters. It looks like it is not finding your import file, so there is either a problem with the path or the file name thanks shafqat --- On Mon, 8/18/08, J.T. Shyman [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: From: J.T. I am doing the AR Server 7.1 email integration for my company. One of the standard requirements is to create an incident when an email is submitted to a particular account. Now I have written filters to push the values of the email submitter on to the required fields in HPD: helpdesk form (which is the incident creation form for 7.1). Now I have a problem. The filter fails and I am pretty sure why. But I don't know how to go about doing it. In the incident form in 7.1 simply typing in the user details, fails to generate an incident number. When I enter the name and hit enter (in the incident creation form) an underlying workflow is triggered which also assigns the incident number. In my filter, I am pushing in the values and I am getting the same error which says incident number is not assigned. Which makes sense because the activelink to assign the incident nummber is not firing. Has any one attempted a similar job. Can please guide me as to what should be done next. It’s an IBM product that does server scanning to return information about drive space. The end goal is to use it to update values in the CMDB. A table was created in the ARS DB that is being populated by TPC. I’m attempting to create a view form to read from the table with the following columns: [GUID] [varchar](255) NULL, [COMPUTER_NAME] [varchar](255) NULL, [IP_ADDRESS] [varchar](30) NULL, [SERIAL_NUMBER] [varchar](100) NULL, [PROCESSOR_TYPE] [varchar](100) NULL, [OS_TYPE] [varchar](100) NULL, [OS_VERSION] [varchar](100) NULL, [MODEL] [varchar](100) NULL, [MANUFACTURER] [varchar](100) NULL, [DEDICATED] [float] NULL, [SHARED] [float] NULL, [SHARED_MANUFACTURER] [varchar](255) NULL, [LAST_SCAN_DATE] [varchar](50) NULL When creating the view form, the only two available columns are Dedicated and Shared (the floats). Nothing appears in the dropdown for a key field (I manually typed in GUID to create a form, but the other fields were not there and could not be added, and GUID wasn’t there either). The table does contain data. Is there some issue with varchar or am I doing something incorrectly? According to the help files, varchar is supported: * Only the following data types are supported in view forms: * SQL Server—char, varchar, tinyint, smallint, int, text, real, float, decimal Should this be a vendor form, even though the table is already populated in our DB? 7.0.1 p6 SQL 2005 SP2 Win Server 2003 Thanks, Chris ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org Platinum Sponsor: www.rmsportal.com ARSlist: Where the Answers Are

Along the same lines, alternatevely instead of renaming the directory, write the path in a 8.3 format.. you can get a 8.3 format name of a directory by a dir /x on the dos command prompt by using the x switch..
