Migration Problems

2008-08-18 Thread Louis van der Walt
Hi List,

We are busy with a migration from a Sun 6000 environment with Solaris
5.8 to a SUN K25 with Solaris 5.10.

The Database Oracle 9i runs on a separate server and was successfully
migrated to the new K25 environment.

Our current version of Remedy is 6.03 patch 13.

We copied all the Remedy directories and files to the new server. The
Remedy application starts up without errors but the arfork process takes
up to 20 min to start up on the SUN K25 server.

Due to response issues and the server hanging on the SUN K25 we had to
switch back to the Sun 6000.

Access to the server is fast at times but the server seems to lose
communication with the database and hangs.

The server name, Ip Address and network configuration is the same for
both servers and access the Database goes through the same route.

The following message appear in the arrerror.log file of the K25

Re: importing data from sql to remedy

2008-08-18 Thread Pierson, Shawn
It's possible, although I've never used it for that purpose. The reason being
that it's easy to set up a view form based on the SQL table outside of ARS that
you want to pull data from, then use escalations and filters to pull that into
the ARS tables you need.

However, if you're talking about hundreds of thousands of records or more, with
lots of updates to lots of tables (such as updating ITSM configuration data)
then you are better off using something threaded like ARSPerl. VB can be used
for that too, but I don't think it will be able to beat the speed of ARSPerl.

Has anyone succesfully imported data from SQL production to their remedy

various servers into the remedy server user data tables and some other tables

Sorting issue on WUT 7.1p3

If you take that same column and drag it any other location the sorting does

Email Engine Does Not Work After Reboot

2008-08-18 Thread Kaiser Norm E CIV USAF 96 CS/SCCE
Hi everyone:

Anyone ever seen this before? The Email Engine at a remote site I
support is acting up. The service is set to automatic, but when the
server is rebooted-even though the service says it's started-email does
not flow. If the administrator restarts the service, however, the email
flows and everything seems fine...until the server is rebooted. So
restarting the service after a reboot fixes the problem, but why does
the service hang after a reboot?

Maybe related and maybe not: The site upgraded their JRE from 1.4.2_17

be a coincidence, but it's still highly suspect.

Re: Null Reported Date ARS7

Sorry for the incomplete answer. I hit the send button to soon. :(

Yes you need to cross map the value for the field that you want to set
to the field (in the file) that you want it to be set to.
 So after you Add All
You need to set 'reported date' = $3$ (or whaterver field ID/field
name you are going to use to backfill the data with) before you do the
 import.

BTW: If you look at the 4th line of an ARX file you will see a line like
 this...

 FLD-ID 4 1 3

This is a space separated list of field ID's that were exported in the
arx file. In the example above fields: 4 , 1,  and 3 were exported. I
would bet that your ARX file does not have a 1 as a field ID in the
 file.

Also .. I just looked on our ITSM v7 HPD:Helpdesk form and the field 1
name is 'Entry ID' and it has a prefix of INC. ( The 'Incident ID'
field is actually field ID 100161 and has a Field DB name of
Incident Number. This field can not be used to update a record via
the import tool. Unless they finally fixed the idea of doing the
matching on other columns than field 1 when I was not looking. :) )

Submit Date = field ID 3

Which is why you were getting the errors you were getting. Without a
Field 1 value the Import tool assumes that your trying to create a new
record (like a Submit operation) instead of trying to update an
existing record ( like a Modify) operation. ( Keep in mind the filters
that are triggered are neither Submit, nor Modify. Only Merge filters
are triggered directly by the Import tool. Workflow can the trigger
Submit/Modify filters as a result of Push actions, and even Get Entry
filters too (SetField) but those are other topics for other days. So I
hope that does not confuse the issue any.)

But there is a twist I was not expecting
Reported Date = field ID 100719, but it is a display only field (
 What the [EMAIL PROTECTED]@[EMAIL PROTECTED]@[EMAIL PROTECTED] )
So that means that MAYBE if you import the data into that field
there will be workflow on Merge that puts it where it needs to go to
actually keep the value. The general approrach of using the import
tool to backfill the data should work if you can figure out where it
needs to be kept. Maybe the display only field already has workflow no
merge that will work. I think it is worth a shot at least. I doubt it
can hurt anything. (If you do your field map correctly.)

If the Merge to the display only field fails to get you what your
after then you may need to turn on Filter tracing, do a Submit or a
Modify of a record where you manually set 'Reported Date' to a value
to be able to find where the value is kept in the application. (Sorry
for the confusion, but apparently the field you are likely seeing on
the form is not actually where that data is stored. GRRR.)

 HTH.

Sorry...but can't do it. In the web the 'close window' action actually does
a 'back' action, not an actual close. It's my understanding that in IE6, a

setting your open window action to new, and then the close window action
will actually close the window, and return values to the previous screen...

Re: Email Engine Does Not Work After Reboot

2008-08-18 Thread Harry Pugh
We ran into this - basically the e-mail service was starting before the
AR Server process so I guess the e-mail service never gets initialized
properly but it carries on its way as if it did. We did our own registry
edits to make the e-mail service dependant on the ar server service so
that it would start up at the proper time and we haven't run into this
problem anymore.

If your e-mail service isn't on the same box as your ar server then this
solution probably isn't for you.

Re: Null Reported Date ARS7

2008-08-18 Thread LJ Longwing
Yes you canbut it's not supported by anyone...and you need to know the
Epoch/Julian (depending on the type of field) that Remedy actually stores in
the DB (which you can lookup from the other field, if they are the same data
type)

Out of curiosity, would it be possible to just open the actual ARSystem DB
and manually enter the dates?

I will give the import another shot with the updated advice. Thank you for
the assistance!

GRRR.)

View form creation issue

2008-08-18 Thread Moore, Christopher Allen
Hey list,

We're trying to pull data populated into a table by a product called
TotalStorage Productivity Center. It's an IBM product that does server
scanning to return information about drive space. The end goal is to use it to
update values in the CMDB.

A table was created in the ARS DB that is being populated by TPC. I'm
attempting to create a view form to read from the table with the following
columns:

[GUID] [varchar](255) NULL,
[COMPUTER_NAME] [varchar](255) NULL,
[IP_ADDRESS] [varchar](30) NULL,
[SERIAL_NUMBER] [varchar](100) NULL,
[PROCESSOR_TYPE] [varchar](100) NULL,
[OS_TYPE] [varchar](100) NULL,
[OS_VERSION] [varchar](100) NULL,
[MODEL] [varchar](100) NULL,
[MANUFACTURER] [varchar](100) NULL,
[DEDICATED] [float] NULL,
[SHARED] [float] NULL,
[SHARED_MANUFACTURER] [varchar](255) NULL,
[LAST_SCAN_DATE] [varchar](50) NULL

When creating the view form, the only two available columns are Dedicated and
Shared (the floats). Nothing appears in the dropdown for a key field (I
manually typed in GUID to create a form, but the other fields were not there
and could not be added, and GUID wasn't there either). The table does contain
data.

Is there some issue with varchar or am I doing something incorrectly?
According to the help files, varchar is supported:

 * Only the following data types are supported in view forms:
* SQL Server-char, varchar, tinyint, smallint, int, text, real, float,
decimal
Should this be a vendor form, even though the table is already populated in our
DB?

Re: Email Engine Does Not Work After Reboot

2008-08-18 Thread strauss
I'm probably not the best person to ask since I don't like anything
about the java architecture, but I think this is one of those things
where the java app (AREmail) has been made to appear as a Windows
service even though it really isn't one, so under the covers the
EmailStart.bat is called when the service starts and that is what
actually starts the application. Similar to the way Tomcat installs a
wrapper around the app so that you can manage it as a Windows service
even though it is not one.

I do know that every time I have been required to update the JRE by our
security folks - about the only time I will agree to do so after an
installation - I have had to edit the path to the jre in the
EmailStart.bat in order for it to work properly. I also had to edit the
registry entry in HKLM\CurrentControlSet\BMC Remedy Email Engine -
servername\Parameters\JVM Library, which shows the path to the
jvm.dll. I know that I had to do this on 5.1.2 when they found major
security problems in 1.4.x jre back in 2007... and I have edited both
the EmailStart.bat and registry paths on 7.0 and 7.1 while testing
systems over the past two years.

Someone who understands java and AREmail better than I is welcome to
correct me on this - I just try to keep it working reliably in a pure
Windows Server environment, where java is always problematic.

In your situation, where the service will start manually, it may not be
the path but the mail service starting before ARS as Harry pointed out;
in my experience if the path is the problem the service won't start
manually, either. FYI, I think 7.1 is the first version where the
installer actually makes the mail service dependent on the AR server
service - where if you restart ARS it tells you that it is also going to
restart the dependent mail service.

Re: importing data from sql to remedy

I'm not sure I understand your needs for sure. Are you trying to populate
the Remedy user and people forms? If that is the case and you are using
the ITSM 7 product you can utilize the Application Integration Engine and
set up exchanges to pull data from SQL without writing any c or vb code.
It's quite simple once you know what fields to populate and how to use the

Re: Sorting issue on WUT 7.1p3

2008-08-18 Thread Maynard,Tor T.
We have this same problem, and reported it to BMC. Here's a excerpt
from their knowledge base:

==
This issue has been registered via several defects:
SW00276920 - For sorting on Selection / Integer fields
SW00288363 - For sorting on Date/ Time fields
SW00296911 - For sorting on Real fields
The current workaround for this issue is to not use these fields as the
first column in the result list. If a character field is used as the
first column, sorting on the other columns will be enabled as well.

Please note: The fact that LONG CHAR fields (i.e. character fields above
255 characters) cannot be sorted in the result list is 'As Designed' -
the initial 7.x User Tool allowed this, but this was corrected in the
7.1 User Tool.

The current status of the above defects can be monitored by logging into
the support website and then follow these instructions:
* Select - View/Update under Issue Management
* Select - Defect/RFE/CAR tab
* Select - Search

This will be fixed in the next 7.1 user tool patch. Most likely patch
006.
==

The defect associated with our issue, SW00276920, has a status of
Closed, and Classification of Fixed, so I'm guessing it's in that new
patch. We have not installed that patch yet.

Chris,
Alter the table and have the columns as VARCHAR2 and not VARCHAR.. This will
resolve your problem of not being able to see character fields..
Also your field that you want to dedicate towards the request ID should have a

violation of this..

I agree a dialog in a new window is best. Then when stuff is entered
completely have a button the closes the dialog and then bring back the
info in the original form/page.

Subject: Re: Sorting issue on WUT 7.1p3

We have this same problem, and reported it to BMC. Here's a excerpt
from their knowledge base:

==

* Select - View/Update under Issue Management
* Select - Defect/RFE/CAR tab
* Select - Search

This will be fixed in the next 7.1 user tool patch. Most likely patch
006.
==

The defect associated with our issue, SW00276920, has a status of
Closed, and Classification of Fixed, so I'm guessing it's in that new
patch. We have not installed that patch yet.

We are finding that if the first column of a results list is the
Status field (actually, any enumerated field) clicking on the column
heading to sort does not work.
If you take that same column and drag it any other location the
sorting does work. We are all seeing this with data time fields. If
you take a date time field and make it the first column in the results

list the sorting does not work.

This is not happening in MidTier 7.0.1 p7

 Anybody else seen this?

Re: Asset Console Advanced Search

2008-08-18 Thread Drew Shuller
Thanks for the replies so for. I was thinking that ITSM was mis-handling
the OR part of the query somehow. After more checking, that menu is built
from a SYS form that handles the differences in the field label and the
field database name. The users select the field label from the
Advanced Search menu, but it inserts the database name into the query. For
this one particular case, one of the value
pairs in the SYS backend form is incorrect. It is Product Name=Model when
it really should be Product Name=Model Number. Remedy (oops, BMC Remedy
ITSM) doesn't know what field that is, and it returns a null set.

Hey list,

We're trying to pull data populated into a table by a product called
TotalStorage Productivity Center . It's an IBM product that does server
scanning to return information about drive space. The end goal is to use it to
update values in the CMDB.

A table was created in the ARS DB that is being populated by TPC. I'm
attempting to create a view form to read from the table with the following
columns:

[GUID] [varchar](255) NULL,
[COMPUTER_NAME] [varchar](255) NULL,
[IP_ADDRESS] [varchar](30) NULL,
[SERIAL_NUMBER] [varchar](100) NULL,
[PROCESSOR_TYPE] [varchar](100) NULL,
[OS_TYPE] [varchar](100) NULL,
[OS_VERSION] [varchar](100) NULL,
[MODEL] [varchar](100) NULL,
[MANUFACTURER] [varchar](100) NULL,
[DEDICATED] [float] NULL,
[SHARED] [float] NULL,
[SHARED_MANUFACTURER] [varchar](255) NULL,
[LAST_SCAN_DATE] [varchar](50) NULL

When creating the view form, the only two available columns are Dedicated and
Shared (the floats). Nothing appears in the dropdown for a key field (I
manually typed in GUID to create a form, but the other fields were not there
and could not be added, and GUID wasn't there either). The table does contain
data.

Is there some issue with varchar or am I doing something incorrectly?
According to the help files, varchar is supported:

 * Only the following data types are supported in view forms:

* SQL Server-char, varchar, tinyint, smallint, int, text, real, float,
decimal
Should this be a vendor form, even though the table is already populated in our
DB?

Re: Migration Problems

2008-08-18 Thread Theo Fondse
Hi Louis!

ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel is a catch-all generic error
normally due to one of the following problems:

-Network / Firewall Issues

-Oracle Software Crash

-Oracle Server Crash

-Oracle internal errors (e.g.: ORA-00600 or ORA-07445) causing aborts

-Oracle Client or TNS layer inability to handle the connections

-Forceful Disconnection of a Server Session

Also check your Oracle server to see if it runs out of disk space
(especially on the rollback segments).

Hi List,

We are busy with a migration from a Sun 6000 environment with Solaris 5.8 to

The Database Oracle 9i runs on a separate server and was successfully
migrated to the new K25 environment.

Our current version of Remedy is 6.03 patch 13.

We copied all the Remedy directories and files to the new server. The Remedy
application starts up without errors but the arfork process takes up to 20
min to start up on the SUN K25 server.

Due to response issues and the server hanging on the SUN K25 we had to
switch back to the Sun 6000.

Access to the server is fast at times but the server seems to lose
communication with the database and hangs.

The server name, Ip Address and network configuration is the same for both
servers and access the Database goes through the same route.

Hey list-

A co-worker of mine was trying to run arimportcmd.exe from the command line to

Loading Mappings failed: The import was not attempted

Here's the line he used:

arimportcmd.exe -u ** -p -a 51000 -l arlog.txt -m
ImportComputerData -d F:\Program Files\AR System\HOME\ARCmds

He's called BMC support (Friday) but nothing from them yet, and he's seen a
reference that running arimportcmd from the command line stopped working
properly at ~7.0 p2.

Does anyone have any information about this error?

I did see an older post on the list from 2005 doing something similar in 6.3,
but there was no resolution there. Only some of us on the list have reverted
back to using the 5.x Import tool to perform our imports.

OK, I'm going to attempt to use a 5.x version of arimportcmd to see if it will
work.

Wish me luck...

Custom crystal report to replace HPR: Incident Print

We have just implemented ITSM 7. Our service desk team would like more
information on the incident print out. We've modified the existing report

to add 3 subreports. The administrator creating the reports with Crystal
11 can see the reports fine on her machine when she clicks the print
button. However, all other clients that try to print the report get an
error Failed to load database information. Has anyone encountered
this? I've checked the use underscores box as many have indicated but
that does not help at all. All clients are using the crytal
redistributables that come with the client install. We've not modified
the ODBC drivers on either the administrators or other clients from that
which was installed.

We've been working this issue for days now and the troops are getting
restless. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A couple of  other things to check
firstly see if you can change to the directory via dos using the syntax you are
using, sometimes you might need to truncate the directory path, if that is the
problem I  would  suggest creating a directory called  something like c:\import
and renaming the  import file to something less than 8  characters.
It looks like it is not finding your import file, so there is either a problem
with the path or the file name

  Hi Group,

I have a question for you guys. I am doing the AR Server 7.1

create an incident when an email is submitted to a particular account. Now I
have written filters to push the values of the email submitter on to the
required fields in HPD: helpdesk form (which is the incident creation form
for 7.1). Now I have a problem. The filter fails and I am pretty sure why.
But I don't know how to go about doing it. In the incident form in 7.1
simply typing in the user details, fails to generate an incident number.
When I enter the name and hit enter (in the incident creation form) an
underlying workflow is triggered which also assigns the incident number. In
my filter, I am pushing in the values and I am getting the same error which
says incident number is not assigned. Which makes sense because the
activelink to assign the incident nummber is not firing. Has any one
attempted a similar job. Can please guide me as to what should be done next.

 Thanks

Subject: View form creation issue

**
Hey list,

We’re trying to pull data populated into a table by a product called
TotalStorage Productivity Center .  It’s an IBM product that does server
scanning to return information about drive space.  The end goal is to use it to
update values in the CMDB.

A table was created in the ARS DB that is being populated by TPC.  I’m
attempting to create a view form to read from the table with the following
columns:

[GUID] [varchar](255) NULL,
[COMPUTER_NAME] [varchar](255) NULL,
[IP_ADDRESS] [varchar](30) NULL,
[SERIAL_NUMBER] [varchar](100) NULL,
[PROCESSOR_TYPE] [varchar](100) NULL,
[OS_TYPE] [varchar](100) NULL,
[OS_VERSION] [varchar](100) NULL,
[MODEL] [varchar](100) NULL,
[MANUFACTURER] [varchar](100) NULL,
[DEDICATED] [float] NULL,
[SHARED] [float] NULL,
[SHARED_MANUFACTURER] [varchar](255) NULL,
[LAST_SCAN_DATE] [varchar](50) NULL

When creating the view form, the only two available columns are Dedicated and
Shared (the floats).  Nothing appears in the dropdown for a key field (I
manually typed in GUID to create a form, but the other fields were not there
and could not be added, and GUID wasn’t there either).   The table does contain
data.

Is there some issue with varchar or am I doing something incorrectly?
According to the help files, varchar is supported:
* Only the following data types are supported in view forms:
* SQL Server—char, varchar, tinyint, smallint, int, text, real, float,
decimal
Should this be a vendor form, even though the table is already populated in our
DB?

7.0.1 p6
SQL 2005 SP2
Win Server 2003

Thanks,
Chris

Re: Loading Mappings failed: The import was not attempted- arimportcmd from the command line

Along the same lines, alternatevely instead of renaming the directory, write
the path in a 8.3 format.. you can get a 8.3 format name of a directory by a
dir /x on the dos command prompt by using the x switch..

A couple of  other things to check
firstly see if you can change to the directory via dos using the syntax you are
using, sometimes you might need to truncate the directory path, if that is the
problem I  would  suggest creating a directory called  something like c:\import
and renaming the  import file to something less than 8  characters.
It looks like it is not finding your import file, so there is either a problem
with the path or the file name

thanks

Instead of -m and -d try using -M to indicate the full path and name of the arm
file. For example:

arimportcmd.exe -u ** -p -a 51000 -l arlog.txt -M F:\Program
Files\AR System\HOME\ARCmds\ImportComputerData.arm”

Hey list-

A co-worker of mine was trying to run arimportcmd.exe from the command line to
import a file and got the following error:
Loading Mappings failed: The import was not attempted

Here’s the line he used:
arimportcmd.exe -u ** -p -a 51000 -l arlog.txt -m
ImportComputerData -d F:\Program Files\AR System\HOME\ARCmds

He’s called BMC support (Friday) but nothing from them yet, and he’s seen a
reference that running arimportcmd from the command line stopped working
properly at ~7.0 p2.

Does anyone have any information about this error?

I did see an older post on the list from 2005 doing something similar in 6.3,
but there was no resolution there.  Only “some of us on the list have reverted
back to using the 5.x Import tool to perform our imports.
OK, I'm going to attempt to use a 5.x version of arimportcmd to see if it will
work.
Wish me luck...”

Thanks,
Chris

1.Add the arimportcmd.exe directory path to the environment variables...like
java class path..
2.goto run-cmd-arimportcmd directory and run the import command

it work surely

I am digging through this error on 6.3 and I found that if I try to load
the mapping from the Import Tool I am getting the same error message. So,
I am trying to recreate the mapping to see where the problem is.
