Exported data from AP Trouble Ticket form cannot be imported back to the same form (using Import Tool) - returning Invalid AR Export format file error

2008-08-21 Thread Jay Sytangco
Hi All,

Have anyone experienced exporting records from a form but the exported
arx file cannot be imported back to the same form? I found out that
the arx file contains a number of ? characters scattered within the
data and I'm not sure what causing these characters to be included in
the exported data. This only happen to one particular form, exporting
and importing data from other forms work ok.

Thanks,
Jay

ARS.XSD File location

2008-08-21 Thread Saravanan Palaniappan

Hi Listers,

I generated a XML file (instead of DEF file) while exporting a form from
the server.

The XML refers to an XSD file called ars.xsd.

I wanted that XSD file to understand the tag definitions better.

I did search for that but couldn't find it.

Can you please help me out with the location to find the file?

Thanks in advance.

filtering of collection in table object

2008-08-21 Thread rg25
Hi all,

I am using ARS 7.1 and have a problem regarding filtering of collection in
table object.
Table object using Vendor Form as supporting form.
I want to filter a result from a Vendor Form by one column (e.g Item No).
To do it I have use [Item No LIKE %some_phrase%] in external
qualification to find all items which content the phrase.
But in this approach I can not filter collection.

Can you please help me to solve this problem.

Re: 6.3 Helpdesk Ar System...

2008-08-21 Thread Opela, Gary L CTR USAF AFMC 72 CS/SCBAH
I've done this before. I did the following:

Whenever a child ticket is closed, push a value to a hidden,
display-only radio button.
The Parent Ticket will have a filter that runs on modify if that radio
button has a value.
It will select the request ID of the first child ticket that is still
open.
The next filter will run under the same conditions, and will check to
see if the request ID field set in the step above is $NULL$. If it is
$NULL$, then that means there are no child tickets open, so it will
close the parent ticket.

Now, the only problem you have, is if the users open the child ticket
from the parent ticket, they will not get the change on the parent
ticket, whenever the Status changes. I had a modal window open for my
child ticket, and the users opened it via a button click. The first
action was to open the window. The next active link would set the status
for the current ticket (The parent ticket), from the database. I also
had to disable the change flag for the status field, but that wasn't a
problem because I didn't have my users ever modifying the status field
on their own, I controlled that with filters.

You can use the same container (i.e., tomcat installation) for multiple
mid-tiers. The key with the native libraries is to use a classloader to
load the jars that is common to both applications.
This is typically accomplished by placing the jars that contain the classes
that load the system libraries in a in a place where both webapps have a
common classloader, then removing the jars (jni) from the deployed app
classloader. This has to be done to use the CI viewer, slm collector, and
 mid-tier from the same container.

 http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-6.0-doc/class-loader-howto.html

Plan on using the Common classloader.

Subject: Two Tomcat on same server

 **
 List,
I'm needing a little bit of assistance with some server config. I
have a development server running two of each ARServer and New
Atlanta. About 2 years ago I tried to put two mid-tiers in the same
New Atlanta, and found that because of the native libraries, it
wasn't possible to run two mid-tiers in the same java container. I
however discovered that if I was running New Atlanta AS instead of
ISAPI, that I could install more than one java container on the same
machine, and New Atlanta has a feature where if you reference a java
app that's not configured on server1, it fails over to
server2 to allow it to handle the url requestso basically what my
 configuration is is this

 IIS - New Atlanta 1 - New Atlanta 2

So I have two URL's to access the individual Mid-Tier servers

 http://devserver/arsys1/home
 http://devserver/arsys2/home

and each points to its respective new atlanta server. Now for the
 problem.
When we upgraded to 7.1 and setup our new production servers we went
with the new default configuration of Tomcat instead of New
Atlanta...so all of our boxes (except this dev server) are using this
new config without issuebut I'm not entirely sure how to
configured Tomcat in the same fashion as I have New Atlanta
configured and I would appreciate any and all help the list can
 provide that will
 assist me in this changeover.

CMDB patching

2008-08-21 Thread Konstantin Pavlov
Hi all

I want to ask you something which bother me from the last week.

I'm in the process of preparing of test environment for tracking all
changes caused by the 7-th and 8-th ITSM patches.

I read all the documentation regarding it - patching of all AR
components (server, midtier, approval, assignment etc..)

and found that I must first patch the CMDB.

My test environment consist:

All parts are 7.01 patch 6

AR server

Email

Flash Board

Assignment

Approval

Midtier

ServletExec 5.0.13

ITSM 7.0.01 without patches

The CMDB is 2.01 without patches, but during the installation, it
crashed twice and when I kill the process and restart the

machine and on the 3-rd attempt the installation was successful.

Now I trying to patch it with cmdb patch 6 but the error is that i must
have version 1.1 patch 2.

This is the result from SHARE: Application_Properties for CMDB records:

But on the production is with one more row for BMC Atrium CMDB:

Sorry, but I have no time possibility to read the whole documentation
for CMDB and to check all topics from the list here and my question is:

Is there any chance to force appearing of this record into the form (if
this is the place for checking of version), I must reinstall

the CMDB, create manually the missing record or there is some other
trick for solving the issue?

Thank you in advance.

Best Regards

Re: Another view form question...

2008-08-21 Thread J.T. Shyman
SQL2005 has a newid() function that you can set a column to. It creates a
16-byte unique identifier...however, that may still be too long for
Remedy...but it is worth a shot.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms190348(SQL.90).aspx

Note that this may affect the way data is imported into the table from the
external source. If your insert statements don't list the column names then
changing or adding a column to the table may cause insert issues. If, on the
other hand, your insert statements do list field names you should be okay.

Here's a clearer explanation.

Say your table (MyTable) has 5 columns named A, B, C, D and E.

An insert can be implicit like so:
INSERT MyTable VALUES (ValueA, ValueB, ValueC, ValueD, ValueE)

SQL knows what to do because you have one value for each column. However if
you were then to add a GUID column, defined as newid() you'd get an error
trying to perform the insert because there would be more columns than data.

If, however, your insert statement is explicit like so:
INSERT MyTable (A, B, C, D, E) VALUES (ValueA, ValueB, ValueC, ValueD,
ValueE)

You should be okay because SQL would know which value goes with which
column. The newid() function, however, may require a value be sent to it
(see Example B on the URL above) which may require changing your data import
method anyway.

Sorry if this is overly technical...I was a DBA in a previous life and its
hard to shake old habits.

Why can't you use ROW_ID? You only need the unique ID for displaying
the View Form. When selecting records from the View form save the GUID
and work with that (just make sure that field is indexed on your table).
When the table is overwritten there is no problem because you have never
saved the temporary ROW_ID value to any other table.

MidTier 7.0.01/Patch 7 - CRS XI/R2 - Crystal Concurrent License Usage

2008-08-21 Thread Mary Ann
We have used Crystal with Remedy for years now but are new to Crystal
Reports Server and the Midtier. We have Crystal Reports Server XI/R2
installed on a separate server from the MidTier 7.0.01/Patch 7. We
bought 5
concurrent (not named) Crystal Licenses.

What we have noticed is that if only 1 user is on the MidTier and they
are
running 1 different report after another, closing each report after each

run, a Crystal license is used. So when they try to run the 6th report,

they get a message that all concurrent licenses are in use.

Even if the user logs off of the Mid-Tier, Crystal CMS still shows 5
licenses in use.

Has anyone else experienced this? We have not installed any CRS XI
patches
but maybe that is the answer.

Thanks very much.

Re: Another view form question...

2008-08-21 Thread Brien Dieterle
I use the SQL 2005 row_number function to do something that sounds like
what you want, in a SQL view, and then expose that as a View Form in
remedy:

SELECT cast(row_number() OVER (ORDER BY somecolumn) AS int) AS Record,
column2, column3.

One note, don't do this. Since the row_number is generated dynamically it
is not permanently bound to a certain record unless you export it into a
regular table (or a regular remedy form). I didn't think would be a problem
until I found this out the hard way: Search results would sometimes display
record A in the results section, and record B in the details section. This
was not immediately obvious, because it only has this behavior when you have
search criteria that filters some records. Hope this helps somehow!

attempts to load the plugin. You don't have to explicitly state the
location of the libraries in the makefile if they are in your
LD_LIBRARY_PATH. Run ldd against the .so file to see what it links
against, do this on the existing 6.3 server as the user that remedy runs

Remedy Link for SQL server question...

2008-08-21 Thread Payne, George
ARS 7.0.01 P08 on AIX 5.3

Database Oracle 10g on separate AIX 5.3 server

Remedy Link for SQL 7.01 Patch 05

It seems as if the Remedy Link for SQL uses a different port each time
the service is started on the Windows server.

This puts the port number in the EIE:BackUpLoadFlag form in the EIE
Service Request Wakeup Port each time the service is restarted.

Trouble is that we have multiple vlans and the tcp ports have to be
opened INDIVIDUALLY. With all the port hopping, we'd have to get them
to open up almost all of the ports to that server and that's not likely
to happen.

We found a configuration item in the EIE.CONF on the windows server that
LOOKS like it would allow you to specify the WAKEUP PORT, but that
seemed to have no affect on the port hopping at all.

Has anyone been successful in specifying a port for the Remedy Link for
SQL server? If we could nail each instance to a pre-defined port then
we could probably sell the idea of opening up those specific ports.

Thanks,
Gp

Task templates used with incident mgmt.

2008-08-21 Thread sivarama velicheti
Hi Group,

I have a question. How can I add a task template for an Incident. I
don't see any place in the incident templates to add in the task templates
that I have defined (one thing which I am able to do with change template).
Can I do something similar with incident? I went to custom
configurations-TMS-integration-application integration and changed the
Helpdesk record corresponding to what the change mgmt record looks like. But
it does not seem to help. One more thing, is there any way I can use the
task defined in the change template before the implementation phase? Before
implementation phase the task shows as staged but not assigned. It is only
assigning to the group in the implementation phase. If I try to change the
task manually to assigned its giving me an ARERR 45093 saying that task or
group must be activated from parent before it can be changed to staus: work
in progress. Please share your thoughts with me on these issues.

Thanks

Rick,
I think that the issue is our sys:action form is not deleting it's
records. When patch 8 runs it tries and install the patch and look
through 800,000 records to delete 10 and the processor cannot take it.
For some reason the records on sys:action are not being deleted when
they should. Has anyone ever ran into that. We have about 800,000
records on that form and there should not be that many.

What that command does is query every record in the form -
regardless of whether it's already found its search criteria - for EACH
record it's trying to delete. The errors are not as severe as they
sound, but it does take WAY more time than necessary. It should be
using the API call that contains a query (see the API manual for the
exact name - something like Application-Delete-Query). That runs
through the form ONCE.

However, since you probably can't alter their install
procedures, the better course is to figure out what it's trying to do
and do it before it gets there; i.e. if it's trying to remove some rows
from SYS:Action, make sure that form is free of deletable records before
it makes it's call. That at least will make the call process less
slowly.

Kevin, are you seeing a corresponding entry in the
Filter/Escalation logs? I think what's happening is that there's one or
the other that's deleting a bunch of entries from a form, and it's
getting hung up, like an Escalation that ties up a thread or a DB

2008-08-21 Thread LJ Longwing
Jay,
I would say that the export is converting 'hidden' characters into ?'s when
creating the arx. The most common time when I see this type of behavior is
when someone copies something out of Email, or Word and pasts it into a char
field or maybe even a diary...MS is horrible about putting control codes and
non ASCII code page characters all over the place. I bet if you put the
field(s) in question through a 'wash' you may find that your problem goes
awaywhat I mean by a 'wash' is to copy them from point a, paste them
into a new (never used before) notepad window, which is not capable of
handling most extended characters, and then close the file, re-open it, copy
out of the notepad window, and paste back into original location...that's
about my best suggestion

Hi All,

Have anyone experienced exporting records from a form but the exported arx
file cannot be imported back to the same form? I found out that the arx
file contains a number of ? characters scattered within the data and I'm
not sure what causing these characters to be included in the exported data.
This only happen to one particular form, exporting and importing data from

As I said...I took a shotgun approach...meaning I took all JAR files out of
the individual folder and put it in the common classloader...I then moved
the MidTier.jar back into and that got Mid-Tier workingbut I couldn't
config itI moved the Config.jar file back into the individual folders,
and everything worked fine from my limited testing perspective...so this
list is 'everything else'

first thing I did was edited conf/catalina.properties and changed line 32
from
common.loader=${catalina.home}/common/classes,${catalina.home}/common/i18n/*

.jar,${catalina.home}/common/endorsed/*.jar,${catalina.home}/common/lib/*.ja
r,${catalina.home}/common/arsystem/*.jar

I then created the arsystem folder under /common

I did this so that I was keeping my common libraries separate from Tomcats
common ones...:)...here is a list of the jar files in the common/arsystem
folder

arapi71.jar
arcmn71.jar
ARInterfaces70.jar
arrpc71.jar
arutil71.jar
axis.jar
blowfishj.jar
commons-beanutils.jar
commons-codec-1.3.jar
commons-collections-3.2.jar
commons-configuration-1.3.jar
commons-digester-1.7.jar
commons-discovery-0.2.jar
commons-lang-2.2.jar
commons-logging-1.1.jar
cos.jar

Logger.jar
oncrpc.jar
ReportCommon.jar
saaj.jar
spring.jar
Support.jar
websvc71.jar
wsdl4j-1.5.1.jar

Both of the web mid-tiers I was using for this testing were 7.1 Patch 4. I
haven't moved this to our Dev server yetbut if I come up with a more
refined list...I'll post to this thread

You can use the same container (i.e., tomcat installation) for
multiple mid-tiers. The key with the native libraries is to use a
classloader to load the jars that is common to both applications.
This is typically accomplished by placing the jars that contain the
classes that load the system libraries in a in a place where both
webapps have a common classloader, then removing the jars (jni) from
the deployed app classloader. This has to be done to use the CI
viewer, slm collector, and mid-tier from the same container.

 http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-6.0-doc/class-loader-howto.html

Plan on using the Common classloader.

everything worked fine from my limited testing perspective...so this list is
'everything else'

first thing I did was edited conf/catalina.properties and changed line 32 from
common.loader=${catalina.home}/common/classes,${catalina.home}/common/i18n/*.jar,${catalina.home}/common/endorsed/*.jar,${catalina.home}/common/lib/*.jar
to
common.loader=${catalina.home}/common/classes,${catalina.home}/common/i18n/*.jar,${catalina.home}/common/endorsed/*.jar,${catalina.home}/common/lib/*.jar,${catalina.home}/common/arsystem/*.jar

I then created the arsystem folder under /common

I did this so that I was keeping my common libraries separate from Tomcats
common ones...:)...here is a list of the jar files in the common/arsystem folder

arapi71.jar
arcmn71.jar
ARInterfaces70.jar
arrpc71.jar
arutil71.jar
axis.jar
blowfishj.jar
commons-beanutils.jar
commons-codec-1.3.jar
commons-collections-3.2.jar
commons-configuration-1.3.jar
commons-digester-1.7.jar
commons-discovery-0.2.jar
commons-lang-2.2.jar
commons-logging-1.1.jar
cos.jar
ehcache-1.2.4.jar
GraphPlugin.jar
icu4j.jar
jaxrpc.jar
log4j-1.2.14.jar
Logger.jar
oncrpc.jar
ReportCommon.jar
saaj.jar
spring.jar
Support.jar
websvc71.jar
wsdl4j-1.5.1.jar

Both of the web mid-tiers I was using for this testing were 7.1 Patch 4.  I
haven't moved this to our Dev server yetbut if I come up with a more
refined list...I'll post to this thread

It is a optional Add-on, the patch number is 9002, you must download it from
Patch Downloads area under Incident Management product.

 Thanks

These '?' characters also could be a result of accented characters when you
export them from a database containing such characters.. I'm not sure where I
came across this but I think it was the data contained in one of the CFG cities
or country forms where one of the countries have an accented character in its
name..

Jay,
I would say that the export is converting 'hidden' characters into ?'s when
creating the arx.  The most common time when I see this type of behavior is
when someone copies something out of Email, or Word and pasts it into a char
field or maybe even a diary...MS is horrible about putting control codes and
non ASCII code page characters all over the place.  I bet if you put the
field(s) in question through a 'wash' you may find that your problem goes
awaywhat I mean by a 'wash' is to copy them from point a, paste them into a
new (never used before) notepad window, which is not capable of handling most
extended characters, and then close the file, re-open it, copy out of the
notepad window, and paste back into original location...that's about my best
suggestion

Hi All,

Have anyone experienced exporting records from a form but the exported arx file
cannot be imported back to the same form?  I found out that the arx file
contains a number of ? characters scattered within the data and I'm not sure
what causing these characters to be included in the exported data. This only
happen to one particular form, exporting and importing data from other forms
work ok.

Thanks,
Jay

Response time for Midtier

2008-08-21 Thread sivarama velicheti
Hi,

I have the AR Server 7.1.00 Set up on windows 2003 environment
running on the SQL Server Database. I have installed Midtier in another
machine. I am noticing that the response time for the midtier is not as
expected. Can any one help me figure out how to enhance the performance of
Mid-Tier. Is there any way that I can change the cache settings in the
Mid-Tier config tool to enhance the performance. I see a Mid-Tier prefetch
XML settings. Do I need to do anything with that to improve the performance.
Suggestions are welcome. I did not do any performance tweaking as of now.

Found out, some of the field labels have carriage return at the end

Re: Response time for Midtier

2008-08-21 Thread Frank Caruso
You need to be specific about what the performance issue is? Also, your ARS
server and MidTier versions.

I will assume you are running Midtier 7.1. The one thing I remember about MT
7.1 was there was a performance issue moving from record to record in a
query list in IE and Firefox. We actually downgraded to MT 7.0 and that
fixed the issue.
