Re: How to check that email has sent by AR Remedy email engine
Hey Amanullah, Yes there is a form called AR System Email Messages form. Look for the field 'Send Message'. It is on the 'Message Information' tab, you have to set 'Display Advanced Options' = Yes to see that tab. It sets that field to 'Sent' after sending the email, so you can search for 'Send Message' = Yes or Error to see which ones haven't gone out or returned some error... I would also advise that you put an index on that field, as the form can fill up very quickly and searches can be difficult. Hope that helps. Re: How to check that email has sent by AR Remedy email engine
Amanullah, Building on what Jason stated, I've noticed sometimes that even if 'Send Message' = Yes, the message has not gone out. For me, I also confirm that the 'Date Sent' field has a value. If it does, I usually can confirm that the message has been sent. If 'Date Sent' is NULL, it may mean the message is queued up to send but hasn't gone out yet. I currently have a ticket open for this as well. I can't re-produce it at will so I can't get logs. This was their suggested solution: Solution There is a hidden field associated with the TMS:Task form, State (10003019). This field must be set to Active for the task to allow a status change. For some reason, the OOB workflow has been found to intermittently fail in setting this. The exact cause is still under evaluation. The defect related to this is SW00316007. In-house testing of a simple active link which pushes the value of Active to this field for the task in question has succeeded in triggering the other OOB workflow to advance the status of the task. For example: One way to accomplish this would be to create a new form with a character field and a button. The character field is populated with the ID of the task that needs to be moved from Staged, expl – TAS13. Pressing the button will trigger an active link to search the TMS:Task form for the matching task record (a Push If action). When found, it will push to the field, State, a value of http://rkm.bmc.com/rkm/viewdoc.jsp?remedy=1do...ype=Publishedterms=searchTermsuser=Self Help (1 of 2) [11/30/2009 11:04:20 AM] Document Viewer Active. This action should trigger the other out of box workflow to then change the Status of the task to either Pending or Assigned. NOTE: Be sure to have proper backups when trying custom workflow in case it is found necessary to restore to original state. For incident setting the status of In Progress will activate the first task or task group associated to the incident. There is a known issue when sometimes the task flow is broken and the tasks do not get activated. This mainly happens when you have a cancelled task somewhere in the middle of a sequence. The way to manually activate the task is to set the 'State' field on the task to active. You can do this by workflow to push this value into the relevant task from a display only form that you can create. BMC support advised that we install ITSM patch 9 to resolve the issue when a task does not get activated. We did install patch 9, but there were 2 major issues that got introduced as a result of installing the patch. We got a hot fix for one of them and the other issue is still open. Re: How To Track Floating HD licenses
Hi, Licenses in Help Desk 5.6 are not tracked by the system. You could build some workflow to push information to a tracking form. For example a filter that runs on GetEntry/Submit/Modify that creates/updates a record in your tracking form with the following search: ('Submitter' = $USER$ AND 'Modified Date' $TIMESTAMP$ - 60*60) Short Description = $OPERATION$ This filter should be attached to the the HPD:HelpDesk-form and possibly some other forms as well. This will give you something similar to the user-log where you have one record per individual user session. The sample above gives you a one-hour timeout between sessions. Brian, The ability to monitor ITSM application user licenses is not included with the OOTB products until version 7.x. That being said, what I did to estimate the usage was too create a form which collected the users who submitted of modified a HPD:HelpDesk request. I then created a flashboard to show me the count that had occurred in the last hour. The main flaw in this logic is that this only account for the main Help Desk form and did not account for any of the other forms which are a part of this application. I hope this helps. Re: fast way to find the object in Remedy
Atif, Since you say 'quickest' technically the AR Admin tool isn't the 'quickest' way to find objects especially if you have all those OTB apps of ITSM installed.. The quickest way would be trying a database search.. For e.g. if you want to search for all AL's tied to a particular form: select name from actlink where schemaid in (select schemaid from arschema where name = 'your schema name'; You could also use the exist clause instead of in, which I am told has a performance advantage.. These searches will take no more than a few seconds (1 to 2 or 3 seconds) as opposed to nearly a minute or more on the Admin tool.. You could run similar searches for other objects like filters, menus, etc.. I've created 2 new product categories for database and application system as shown below. I'd like to assign these categories to CI's I've created in order to my users to be able to search by the type of CI. But I am getting ARERR44901 when I search for a database on BMC.CORE:BMC_Database and try to assign these categories to a database.. not sure why. Any ideas? You could also do it fairly easily in Developer Studio, if you're brave enough to use Developer Studio against a 7.1 server (I haven't really had any issues so far). Developer Studio lets you easily filter workflow and forms based on various criteria, one of which is the Primary Form for the workflow. I haven't found a way to bring up workflow associated to a form that isn't the primary form, though. That seems to be a drawback of Dev Studio. But then again, I may just have missed that option... Another option is if you have a documentation utility like ARInside (www.arinside.org). From here you can view all fields and workflow related to the form and go down to the field level as well. CORRECTION: fast way to find the object in Remedy
I just noticed that in my post I missed out a bracket but then if you have already attempted to use that statement you might have already figured that out.. The statement should have been.. select name from actlink where schemaid in (select schemaid from arschema where name = 'your schema name'); If you do not get a distinct set of results and its not ordered you could modify it as select distinct name from actlink where schemaid in (select schemaid from arschema where name = 'your schema name') ordered by name; Cheers Joe -Original Message- From: Action Request System discussion list(ARSList) [mailto:arsl...@arslist.org]on Behalf Of Sabyson Fernandes Sent: Monday, December 14, 2009 2:47 PM To: arslist@ARSLIST.ORG Subject: Re: fast way to find the object in Remedy ** Another option is if you have a documentation utility like ARInside (www.arinside.org). Re: Getting Midtier to work on mobile devices: how far can it go?
People have been using Remedy on Blackberry and Palm devices for years. Aeroprise, MobileReach, and a slew of other companies have written apps and plugins to do just that. If you are trying to do it without one of those apps, you could size down a view of a form and view it on any device that can run a browser. I would recommend that you make a small front-end form for that use, so that all of the Active Links associated with a big form won't load onto the device and eat up its memory. In the lower pane it shows All Application Properties on a tab and in the window Property Name and Property value. In this window - depending on what's selected - I can get the name (Incident Management), the version (7.5) and the patch level (001). Re: Getting Midtier to work on mobile devices: how far can it go?
I just tried on my iPhone with mid-tier 7.5p3. I was able to log in, the home page rendered correctly, but I was unable to scroll up or down to see the entire contents of the entry point list on the left. I did not try with direct URL's but I bet it works... at least partially. Here's a screenshot. Nevermind on the screenshot - listserv keeps rejecting. In that case yes it MAY not be IE - About 5 years ago I did have had a fancy Nokia phone that was not a Windows mobile phone and did have IE in its OS.. If it is not IE that you are using then there is your small problem in the first place. The Mid-Tier application was generally tested for IE browsers on PC's and to the best of my knowledge IE browsers on wireless devices as well. I am not sure if it is even tested for blackberries.. I used the mid tier application on a my older phone that had a Windows 6 OS and did not have the same problem you said you are experiencing which is why I suggested downgrading it to a lower version (just in case the newer one is not compatible).. Also it looks like a bug with the browser on the smart phone since all these things work on browsers on a PC including non IE browsers such as safari and FireFox with a few limitations that are not really that significant.. I could sure use a lesson in clear communication. I am not asking this question right. I know Rick that there are many vendors that since forever have been selling wares to enable mobile devices to access Remedy applications. God bless these fine folks and their ingenuity. I also know that it's unrealistic to expect form/workflow designed for windows client or regular browser to fully work on mobile devices, as html and javascript support in mobile browsers is limited. In addition, Remedy takes field permissions into account when sending e-mails. If the user receiving the e-mail doesn't have permissions to those fields (or Remedy can't determine that they do), then it will not include those fields in the e-mail. Remedy will be able to determine if the user has those permissions if you send it using their login ID. Re: Getting Midtier to work on mobile devices: how far can it go?
Thanks Jason. Your'e right about the situation getting better. The only reason I am taking this trouble at this point is that the pages look fantastic on my phone...even complex forms used in regular browsers. I can login without any issue. Many of the buttons work. So, I feel that there is not a whole lot standing between a simple working form and what I see now. That by using a simple form, a limited set of workflow and using some workarounds, I can get a small set of mobile devices to work with midtier. That's the dream anyway and I may just be overreacting to what reviewers say is the excellent ability of HTC Eris to render web pages. I am also looking at ARSPERL to send html and limited javascript back to the browser. Not the most elegant and scalable solution, but will work. Re: fast way to find the object in Remedy
Lyle, To bring up workflow associated to a form that isn't the primary form, you would use the Working Lists feature introduced in the 7.5 Developer Studio (especially the Related List type Working List). Here is a snippet from the chapter that talks about Working Lists in the 7.5 Developer Studio guide (found at http://documents.bmc.com/supportu/documents/53/81/95381/95381.pdf). Working with working lists Create a working list to keep references to objects that you need to view, change, or export to complete an application development or maintenance task. You can add and remove objects from working lists as you work with them. Descriptions of your working lists are stored locally in your BMC Remedy Developer Studio workspace. Working lists refer to objects on the AR System server, but the server does not record any information about working lists or an object's membership in them. BMC Remedy Developer Studio has the following types of working lists: _ View-by-form list-Contains one or more AR System forms and all objects related to them. _ Related list-Contains one or more AR System objects and optionally either directly related objects or all related objects. Every time you open a working list, the list is updated with the current related objects. For example, if a filter is created that is associated with a form in a view-by-form list, the new filter is included the next time that you open the list. NOTE Although there is no limit on the number of objects in a working list, lists with many objects, included related objects, are slower to open than lists with fewer objects. _ To create a view-by-form list 1 In the AR System Navigator, expand serverName, right-click Working Lists, and choose New View by Form List. 2 In the New View by Form List dialog box, enter the List Name. 3 Click Add. 4 In the Form Selector dialog box, select one or more forms to include in the list, and click OK. To filter the list of forms, type a pattern in the Name field. To move to a form in the list, type the first characters of the name in the Locate field. Use the usual Windows methods to select multiple objects. For example, hold down the CTRL key and click an item to select or deselect it. 5 Click OK to save the list. _ To create a related list 1 In the server branch in the AR System Navigator, right-click Working Lists and choose New Related List. 2 In New Related List dialog box, enter the List Name. 3 Click Add. 4 In the Add Items dialog box, select the objects to include in the list. To filter the list of object, type a pattern in the Name field, select an application from the Application drop-down list, or clear the appropriate Object Category check boxes. To move to a form in the list, type the first characters of the name in the Locate field. 5 In the Add Items with Related Property drop-down list , choose to add just the objects selected, the object and directly related objects, the objects and all related objects, or, for applications and packing lists, the object and its contents. Thanks for the info, Suresh! I'll take a look that. Here is a snippet from the chapter that talks about Working Lists in the 7.5 Developer Studio guide (found at http://documents.bmc.com/supportu/documents/53/81/95381/95381.pdf). Re: fast way to find the object in Remedy
Hi Atif, You can use Remedy Developer Plus too. The initial setup will took sometime but after that you can easily find out Active Links, Filters, Fields etc. associated with a form. Re: Getting Midtier to work on mobile devices: how far can it go?
Jason Miller wrote: ** We have tried for years as the device get more powerful and the MT gets faster. To this day we are yet to find a device that can utilize enough functionality to be usable. The closest we have come is with the newer generation Blackberries (Storm/Tour) and the iPhone with both MT 7.1 and 7.5. We can get authenticated and load a very basic form display only form. We have see similar issues where tables to not work as designed, buttons and Active Links do not work. It doesn't take too complex of a form to make a Blackberry display an error that the page is too large to load. We are closer than we have ever been but not quite there yet. We are supposed to be getting a few demo phones not sure if there is any kind of NDA so I will not state the device that are claimed to have full browser functionality including flash. We'll see how these work when they materialize. Jason I have been working on getting our forms to work on the iPhone (which seem to be the only mobile devices that seem to work with our internal WiFi network) but it is a bit of an uphill challenge. As people have previously said, some objects, like menus and double-clicking on table rows, don't work on the iPhone. Also, getting large fields to display with a scroll-bar is a bit hit-and-miss (although I have been given a JavaScript workaround from BMC that sometimes helps). For example, getting the diary to display caused me quite a headache. My final solution was to write it out to an HTML page and then use an open URL Perform Action AL to display it. Thanks for the idea to get menus displayed as tables - I'll give that a try. Buying an Aeroprise set-up is not a solution for us as with the number of devices that we are using doesn't justify the cost. Aeroprise did tell me once that they are working on a solution specifically for the iPhone but were a bit sketchy on details. I have also written CGI scripts using ARSperl, but that is not really the way forward that I wish to take.
