Problem with group and email messages

2010-02-08 Thread Gianluca Nieri
First, let me thank you all for the replay to friday's message.

I set up a filter to send an email to a remedy group.
What happens is that even if a user in the group has no email, Remedy puts
in the Ar System Email Messages form a message for that user with the login
for the email.

It has configured:
Notification availability: yes
Notification mechanism: none

Which is the problem?

CI Viewer

2010-02-08 Thread Frex Popo

Dear all,

I get inconsistent behaviour with the CI Viewer. I relate 10 CIs (different
types) to a physical location, the CI viewer shows all of them. Then I relate
another 5, this time the viewer does not show any. I remove the 5 and start
relating them one at a time, the viewer shows the first twelve relations but
not the rest. I continue deleting and relating, and every time I get different
results.

I changed the grouping threshold and the show all items on DBlClick to a small
value, the CIs never get grouped, in fact the viewer does not show any
relationship.

Have you had similar behaviour with the CI Viewer? Any thought will be very
much appreciated.

Can someone please assist? How do I disable Group Notifications in ITSM 7.1. I

In the People form there is an option to disable it, however it does not allow

Change the Notification method from email to User Default. The only members of
the group with email checked on their user record will receive the email.
When you specify email in the notification filter it overrides the user

Workaround for Admin Tool v7.0.1P3 on Windows 7 ?

2010-02-08 Thread Susan Palmer
Hi everyone,

My off-hours laptop with Vista was having issues (no laughing) so I thought
I'd upgrade it to Windows 7. It actually went well and it is working fine.

The one thing I'm having an issue with is the ARS *Admin* Tool. I still
need to use v7.0.1P3 for a few months while we're upgrading our servers to
ARS 7.5. This version of the admin tool does not like Windows 7. The user
tool works fine.

When I try to install the message indicates it is not compatible with
Windows 7.

Has anyone found a workaround for the Windows 7 issue? It worked fine on
Vista and I figured Win7 wouldn't be a problem. Yes, I now realize it is
not listed in the compatibility chart.

Appreciate your help.

Susan

Re: RPC Timeout Errors

2010-02-08 Thread Tommy Morris
After intense troubleshooting on this server with our Remedy, NT Server,
DB, Network, and UNIX teams I believe that we have solved this issue.
1.) We found that Oracle 11g was running Stat Reports at 10pm on all
databases so there were 18 jobs running on the db that was putting the
load up to 15 (20 is max capacity?).
2.) Automated server backups were kicking off around the same time (give
or take an hour) and was running for almost 2 hours. This was also
transferring around 35 to 40 gb of data to our Tivoli server.
3.) Initial troubleshooting on our part was to disable Developer Cache
Mode.

Resolution steps
1.) Reschedule DB jobs. They were running in this manner because it was
default OOB configuration, changing that config was not a problem for
the dba's.
2.) Set our server to start backups in an earlier time slot.
3.) Re-enabled Dev mode.
4.) Disabled escalations

There were no reported performance issues last night. Thanks to everyone
for the suggestions. I actually didn't even look at the dev mode after
disabling it as I was focusing more on the server itself.

Turning on devcache mode will increase the performance on a dev env.
But with just one/two developers doing code changes I don't think it
is the real cause.
RPC errors usually due to server crashes are due to server busy.
Some places to look for:

1.Malloc error seems to be some memory related.
See if any other processes are running at the same time and taking
more ram leaving less to remedy.
2.There seems to be some bottle neck some where taking more time and
process might be timing out.
Check the SQL logs to see if the db is taking more time for response.
Also looking at api logs also will tell you at which operation it is
restarting.
3. BMC has released a patch 7.5p3A for devstudio to fix an issue where
dev studio is crashing the arserver.
4. If possible stop all other processes (DSO,Email,Archive,Escalations
etc..) and try the same thing.

No you cannot do the File replace method to upgrade your ARS from 6.3 to 7.1

Upgrading the ARS Server will only change the system forms so you shouldn't
have to worry about customization too much. You will need to make sure you
have the Oracle 10 client since 7.1.0 will not work with the Oracle 9 client.

On your last point,

>>> Current status is Assigned and company should be "MyCompany" (no space in

It will actually only fire if the status is being changed to Assigned. If it
is currently already Assigned, then TR.Status will ne $NULL$, so the action
will not fire. If you want it to fire if the status is Assigned (whether it is
being set to Assigned or was already Assiged), then change TR.Status to Status.

If you would change your qualification to this:

(('DB.Status' != 'Status') OR ('DB.Assigned Group' != 'Assigned Group'))
and ('TR.Status'="Assigned") and ('Company'="MyCompany")

This would mean to Notify assigned group only when:

>>> Status has changed from the previously saved value OR

Checking DB against TR must be the problem with your qualification.

That is essentially correct, but individuals can do it themselves by updating
their own notification preferences from their profile in the People form. If
you give yourself Notification Admin permissions, you could probably also do it
for them. Being Administrator is not enough - it looks like it actively checks
to see if you have Notification Admin permissions and disables the button if
you don't.

Just a thought but maybe it's saving it somewhere else? Why don't you search

7.5 Adhoc approvals

2010-02-08 Thread Moellmer, Matthew
Manually adding an approver to the Change Module in 7.5 results in
approvals being bypassed erroneously. You can test this by manually
adding an approver and moving through the process flow. Has anyone dealt
with this or found a work around?

Re: 7.5 Adhoc approvals

2010-02-08 Thread Guillaume Rheault
Hi Matt,

I can personally attest to this issue. It seems to me this is a bug.

At this point, you have two options:

1. You can either disable adding ad-hoc users by hiding the button on the
change form
2. You can fix this, which means a customization

Adding ad-hoc users is totally discouraged (actually more like forbidden) from
a change control/audit perspective. Ideally, any approver should be pre-defined
in advance: that IS a best practice.

So if you want to go with the option that will make your auditors happy, hide
that button from the change form to prevent adding ad-hoc approvers. Of course
this means that all your approvers need to be correctly pre-defined as per your
approval processes.

We actually don't use that button, but a collector form does allow our
customer to select from a predefined list of approvers. Because the
approver is still technically manually selected, we have to incorporate

Re: 7.5 Adhoc approvals

2010-02-08 Thread Charles Baldi
Maybe you could save the selected list of approvers and then have a "Next
Approver" rule that queries the appropriate field. Then the system would
think that the approver was added through the process rather than ad-hoc. I
have not done this myself it it is worth a try and may be easier than
generating your own approver records.

Remedy Home Page

2010-02-08 Thread lee
This one was quite difficult to search on.

Everytime I log into Remedy, the Home Page is so plain.
I have some ideas that I want to do but I'm wondering what others have
done to spruce up their home page.

I'm thinking of putting some simple like a flashboard.
Ideally I'd like to put up a flashboard of the logged user's current
open incident and work orders.
However I can't find a way to do it with a single variable flashboard.

Anyway, what have others done on their home page?
Links to intranet?
Picture of the company office?

Thanks

Lee,

Somewhere in that 'blank space' you may want to create a table of Alerts, if
your company uses Alerts, with functionality to open the ticket tied to the
alert.

If you use SLA, a table of upcoming thresholds and violations might be
useful as well.

While flashboards would make the page look pretty, they may not be as useful
to every individual to see on a home page, as the ability to check and
monitor specific alerts or events..

Cheers

This one was quite difficult to search on.

Everytime I log into Remedy, the Home Page is so plain.
I have some ideas that I want to do but I'm wondering what others have done
to spruce up their home page.

I'm thinking of putting some simple like a flashboard.
Ideally I'd like to put up a flashboard of the logged user's current open
incident and work orders.
However I can't find a way to do it with a single variable flashboard.

Anyway, what have others done on their home page?
Links to intranet?
Picture of the company office?

2010-02-08 Thread Easter, David
You may want to take a sneak peak at the home page coming in the mid-2010
release. A public screenshot can be seen here:

http://blogs.zdnet.com/BTL/?p=29654&tag=col1;post-30156

It's the last screenshot of the three. Even though the article is about the
Remedy On Demand offering, the technology to create that kind of home page will
be part of the AR System on-premise release.

**

Hi everyone,

My off-hours laptop with Vista was having issues (no laughing) so I thought
I'd upgrade it to Windows 7. It actually went well and it is working fine.

The one thing I'm having an issue with is the ARS Admin Tool. I still need
to use v7.0.1P3 for a few months while we're upgrading our servers to ARS
7.5. This version of the admin tool does not like Windows 7. The user tool
works fine.

Thanks,

Susan

Re: Remedy Home Page

2010-02-08 Thread Maria Delagarza

Lee,

To add to what Joe said...flashboards also have to look at the mid-tier
in order to function. I do find them very useful but usually restrict
them to some other type of "Navigation Bar" usually at the top so that
they do not fire as soon as you open the Home Page, this is important
when you have a very large user base all accessing the Home Page (which
is normal). Also, I typically put a View Field on the Home Page and
then call what ever I want (URL or anything else) into that field using
the Navigation Bar.

We added a page holder containing the following:
1) A table field displaying a User's alerts and a character field below the
table providing the ability to view some details about a selected alert (as
well as double-click open of the ticket associated to the alert).
2) An advanced filtering area where you could narrow down or expand the
contents of the Overview (or "My Tickets") table.

load it into the CMDB. Can this be done with perl scripts? or some other

Re: Remedy Home Page

2010-02-08 Thread Timothy Powell
Oh, but a caution.
If you put an Alerts table on the Home Page, maintain you're alerts
carefully. You don't want too many old alert records hanging around. We had
some alert "pack rats" and didn't clean ours up for a while. In the mornings
as various time zones came online in their respective 0700 hrs time frame,
the system got sluggish when it queried the 1.7 million alert records for
several hundred users all coming online in a 5 minute time frame.

Migrating Approval Data

2010-02-08 Thread Rick Cook
We have CM 7.0.3, and are looking to migrate Approval configuration data
from Dev. to Test. We know how to do the core configuration data, but want
to be sure of how the dependencies work and which exact forms the approval
data is stored in, so that we can export/import it onto the new server
without issues.

What I have so far is this:

   1. Approval Process Rules (form: AP:Process Definition)
   2. Approval Rules (form: AP:Rule Definiton)
   3. Approval Process Configuration (form: APR:SYS-Approval Definition)
   4. Roles (form: AP:Role)
   5. Alternates (form: AP:Alternate)
   6. Approval Mappings (form: APR:Approver Lookup)

Does this look correct, both in terms of completeness and the correct order?
