we can see.

But report the error, think they will give us a hotfix in a while.

** We are in itsm 7.6.03 p002 and we are also noticing this.
We saw this happening when when user tries to open a dialog on click of a
 menu or button.
This does not happen to all the users all the time.
Only one or two users notice it while it works fine for all others.
As you mentioned the workaround was to flush the midtier cache or sometimes
 user's browser cache.
Do you have a defectID that BMC created for this issue?

As long as you're using standard API clients, then OnDemand is no different
than on-premesis -- it's just some application mid-tier servers at the other
end of a network (a VPN, usually). For each integration, though; you'll have
to open a change ticket with the OnDemand engineers so that they can perform
analysis approval processes. After all, they have to manage their
infrastructure, and any customization/integration that could impact capacity
needs review approval.

I've never specifically requested access to the application server filesystem,

ITSM Product Catalogue

2011-10-26 Thread Danny Kellett
Hi list,

I just wanted to get a feel for how many of you start from scratch, take the
BMC sample data and add to it, etc?

I have always started with the sample set and added from customer to
customer then heavily used aliases for discovery etc

I know BMC deployed a set with 7.03 of approx 15k, and now they are scaling
back to a list of approx 4000 (I am told, Matt Laurenceau is kindly
following this up internally)

Just wanted to get a feel and hopefully when I get to the bottom of this I
will post the list back to BMCDN if anyone is interested. Bored of
reinventing the wheel every time J

Anyway thanks and take care

Kind regards

Re: ITSM Product Catalogue

2011-10-26 Thread Peter Romain
The BMC ADDM guys produced a product catalog for software that the patterns
in ADDM used.

This was withdrawn as it was pretty poor but we should expect it to reappear
at some point.

BMC has said in the past that the system will include more, better quality
sample foundation data based on ADDM and it would be good to see this
happening.

I also start by using the sample data which takes care of most classes. The
more complex ones like computer and product are added to as CI's are brought
in.

Using the rule that no CIs are reconciled unless they are normalised should
help keep the product catalog clean.

Re: Compliance activity for Remedy

2011-10-26 Thread Jamie Boley
We use the LDAP integration with Active Directory so all of the password
changes and restrictions are handled within that; however there is a 'User
Password Management Configuration' within the AR System Administration Console
under the System General section where it looks like you can configure how the
system enforces the passwords and restrictions within Remedy. I have never
used this, but may be something you want to check out.

We also have a compliance module where it cuts tickets for our support teams
with specific instructions on things they need to review, the Remedy specific
tickets includes a review of all the AP Role groups that we have created as
well as support groupsto make sure they are still accurate with members and
needed going further, and a review of specific logs. These tickets are setup
to run daily, weekly, monthly, semi-annually, and annually depending on the
compliance need. For removing people in and out of groups once they have left
our company we used to have a manual task created for our Remedy Admins within
the Termination service request, but now we use OIM (Oracle Identity Manager)
to remove all permissions, support group association, functional roles, and
ap:role member association.

Any recommendations on Oracle 11.2 init.ora settings with v7.1

2011-10-26 Thread Geoffrey Endresen
All,

I've seen a few people that are using the 11.2 Oracle with the Oracle 10g
client from the application servers. I'm interested in oracle settings in
the init.ora that give best performance for a shared DB server for a Server
Group. We have about 12 hosts in our server group now. We don't plan to
upgrade to v7.6 until next year.

The only setting we are currently using is the ar.conf setting for Cursor
Sharing = FORCE

active link not working after import

2011-10-26 Thread NormD
Remedy 7.6.0.4, Oracle 11g

Using the midtier interface, a user performing any operation that uses and
active link generates an error - cannot establish a network connection to
the AR system server

This error occurs when an active link that executes a SQL programmed command
is altered. It is inconvenient to have to re-construct many active links.
This error also occurs when one of these active links is exported from one
server to another (eg. from our dev to test server). There are too many
types of these active links to manually adjust during a release.

As time goes on we are using this functionality more, so more of our code
will break without us knowing about it until someone tries to use the
portions of the program that use it.

In our setup ARS server, midtier and Oracle db are all on the same host.

What is causing this issue and how do I address it?

Re: Any recommendations on Oracle 11.2 init.ora settings with v7.1

2011-10-26 Thread Guillaume Rheault
How much memory do you have on your database server? Is it a dedicated database
to Remedy?

In addition to the documented usual settings (cursor sharing = FORCE, in-line
CLOB) consider pinning in memory the ITSM lookup tables (people, user, group,
support groups, categorizations, etc). Also consider partitioning your
transaction tables (incidents, tasks, etc).

In any case, your DBA should run the SQL Tuning Advisor, SQL Access Advisor and
SQL Performance Advisor, and analyze the recommendations

Are you exporting to a .def file or to a .xml file? Open the exported file and
see if your server name is in it (or does it specify @ for the server name).

After a release are you going in to the Mid-Tier Admin page and telling it to
Flush the Cache?

Also are you using 7.6.04 SP1, SP2, or unpatched 7.6.04? And on what OS is
Remedy running on? And what version Dev Studio?
(Yes these can all make a difference)

Norm,
The problem is that with 7.6.4, the age old representation of @ as server is
somehow changing to * in the definitions. In the case of AL's with Direct

work with the clientsthe fix we have found is to export to an XML,
change the * to an @, and re-import the workflow. This 'fixes' the workflow

Subject: active link not working after import

Norm,
The problem is that with 7.6.4, the age old representation of @ as server is
somehow changing to * in the definitions. In the case of AL's with Direct
SQL actions, it is causing an issue. The 7.6.4 Dev Studio (all versions
that I have tested) convert the reference to 'server' to *, and then fail to
work with the clientsthe fix we have found is to export to an XML,
change the * to an @, and re-import the workflow. This 'fixes' the workflow
until someone else modifies the same workflow again with the Dev
Studio...the procedure must be done againbut an export of the workflow
and import into another server still works.

I had an issue a couple months back where I exported a working AL to a .def

How does one override Mid-Tier (7.5) client behavior using JavaScript?

2011-10-26 Thread Rubarth-Lay, James W. (CMS/CTR)
I am developing a form that will be accessed with the web client, through
Mid-Tier. The customer has three feature requirements that will require
modification of the default behavior using JavaScript. I know JavaScript
scripts can be added to a form using the Web Content Header/Footer, but my
attempts to code these are not working.

(1) Tab over menus and other field elements. KA337611 says comment out a line
in ClientCore.js. This is not an option as the change will affect all forms,
not just the form in question. Can I override function
setFocusToTabElementFromCur?

(2) Tab to specified field from current field. Fields are in panels and default
next element behavior cycles twice through the fields in a panel before moving
to the next panel. KA333860 gives JavaScript code to override tab order, but
appears to be for a previous version of Mid-Tier, one that does not use the
Yahoo-dom-event model.

(3) Auto-advance to next field when maxlenth characters entered. Customer
requires for fields like phone numbers that the focus move to the next field
when the maximum number of characters are entered. How is this done from within
the DOM Event model?

Mid-Tier: 7.5.00 Build 200812291922

Web Client: IE8

Thank you in advance for your kind assistance.
James Rubarth-Lay

Hi Mark,

Yes , you can. The installation notes outline the supported configurations
including remote databases.

If you have access to the BMC support site then just do a search in the
knowledgebase for preconfigured stack installation notes and you should be
able to find the doco that explains everything.

Yes , you can. The installation notes outline the supported configurations

If you have access to the BMC support site then just do a search in the

able to find the doco that explains everything.

2011-10-26 Thread Geoffrey Endresen
Guilluame,

Thanks for the reply. We have around 20GB shared on a huge DB host that is
only for Remedy.

In addition to the documented usual settings (cursor sharing = FORCE,
in-line CLOB)
We are using FORCE.
What is the in-line CLOB recommendation?

consider pinning in memory the ITSM lookup tables (people, user, group,
support groups, categorizations, etc).
Good Idea. This is the same as the results cache, right?

Also consider partitioning your transaction tables (incidents, tasks, etc).
I did not know that a Remedy tables could actually be partitioned.
For example HPD:HelpDesk has too many entries.
It would be great to have the T-table that coule be partitioned by
Create_Date.
How is that done?

Thanks,

 Sharing = FORCE

How To Relate A Record In One Table To A Record In Another Table; custom app

2011-10-26 Thread Drew Shuller
Good afternoon everyone. I have what seems like a simple question.

I have a 6.3 Change app where the users need to be able to relate a
trouble ticket. This is pretty easy and straightforward. I'm doing it
the old way and asking the users to create a trouble ticket from the
Change app, and inserting the Change record number into a field on the
Trouble Ticket system and pulling that back via a table in the form.
That's one button. There's another button that will relate an existing
Trouble Ticket by opening a small dialog, entering the Trouble Ticket
number, and pressing a button that fires an AL that does a push
fields, adding the Change record number to the Trouble Ticket. This
works OK...

But we also have a business rule in place that prevents modifications
to closed tickets, so if the ticket number that the user enters in
that dialog is closed, the push fails. We would still want to relate a
closed ticket as this might have been an Emergency change, meaning
that we're keeping track of the change after it happened. Any trouble
tickets would be in closed status.

So...is there any way to write a qual for the Filter that is
preventing the mofication of closed records so that it allows
exceptions? I looked at the keywords, and I'm not sure if any of the
CURRENTWIND or EVENTTYPE will be suitable. I don't know if FIELDID
would be useful but it won't work on the Web. I can see where the
DIALOG or VUI keywords may be useful, if the dialog I call from the
Change app is a view of the Trouble Ticket form (I'm going to try
DIALOG right now, maybe it will work). I could user USER or GROUP, but
a lot of my Change app users are also Trouble Ticket users and they
would be able to modify the closed tickets.

Any suggestions? Running an INSERT command direct to the db?

Thanks in advance,

Drew

7.6.04Asset Management - CI Unique Identifier

2011-10-26 Thread Sanford, Claire
In the manual it gives steps for creating an Asset Record. #4 says type a
unique alpha numeric value for the CI.
In ITSM 764, it let me create a record for a computer that had the same CI ID
and the same Serial Number and the same CI Name. They were identical asset
records on creation.

Any ideas why this is happening? Do I need to add custom workflow that makes
sure the CI ID is unique and the Serial # is unique?

Chapter 3 Working with configuration items p75

To create a Computer System CI
1 In the navigation pane of the Asset Management console, choose Functions =
Manage CIs.
2 In the Select a CI Type dialog box, choose System = Computer System, and
click Create.
At the top of the Computer System form, specify general information. Bold field
names indicate required fields. You must specify information into these fields
before you can save the CI.
3 In the CI Name field, specify a name for the CI.
When creating a CI name, follow a consistent naming convention. According to
IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) guidelines, identifiers should be short but
meaningful, and for hardware, not based on supplier device names. For example,
the name might include an indicator of the item's function followed by a numeric
code, such as MONITOR100.
4 In the CI ID field, type a unique alphanumeric value for the CI.

Thank you!

The field does not have a unique index and there can be multiple entries with
the same ID. Remember that a unique entry could still appear in multiple
datasets so use the uniquex index only when a single CI entry will have it.

Re: How To Relate A Record In One Table To A Record In Another Table; custom app

2011-10-26 Thread Grooms, Frederick W
If you are trying to bypass existing rules you could do something like the
following...

Add a new Display Only field to your ticket form.
Adjust your business rule on modifying Closed tickets to not fire when the new
Display Only form is a special value.
Set up your relate push to set the Display Only field to that value. (You
will already have restrictions on where/who this relate push can happen)

The other option of direct to the database would be using an UPDATE statement
instead of an INSERT (You are modifying a single field not creating a whole new
record). Personally I try to avoid this if at all possible.

Re: Incident Owner Team

2011-10-26 Thread McClure, Don
Hi Frank. That is the method we used on the combination of ARS/ITSM you are
using (transition to 7.6.04 for both in occurred early August 2011).

I built Assignment critera which set Ownership to the default group for the
Company/Organization/Department of requesting customer (heavily multi-tenancy,
distributed support organizations).

The only difficulty we encountered: these rules look like they should be
sequence-oriented with a specified sort order, but did not actually behave as
such. We had to explicitly make certain that any one potential support
group-destination was met by one (and only one!) rule for ownership, then same
uniqueness for assignment.
