.NET BMC.Atrium API - sorting attributes
Hi, I'm wondering if there is any method for sorting attributes within an instance of a CmdbInstance object. Prefered way is to have it sorted by keys or values. There used to be a CmdbSort() method but is no logner available (I'm on 7.5 api version) Any sugestions on this? Re: Problem migrating people with license application
Hi, If you migrate things to CTM:People Permission Groups and not the User-form, you need to set some z1D_Action field, or something like that, to get things synchronized. This may not be the problem though at this point. Why no try RRR|Chive to migrate the data instead ;-) Best Regards - Misi, RRR AB, http://rrr.se Hy, we are migrating the ITSM 7.6.04 data from one server to another using the BMC Remedy Migrator. We have migrated all the data foundation without major problems except for the user with a license application (BMC: Incident Mgmt User Fixed or BMC: Incident Mgmt User Floating). After migrating CTM.People and CTM: People Permission Groups, find the corresponding rows in the form User License Application, but the field 'Application License' is not set properly and the user does not have the license application. We missing something? The migrator can set the license application for the user or you have to do this manually after the migration? 7.6.04 FTS real world experience for ITSM global search
I'm garnering comments / feedback concerning their experience around the performance and stability of FTS for global search in ITSM 7.6.04 sp2 (ARS 7.6.04 sp3) in a server group environment with a large FTS index collection. I have an issue open with support currently where FTS plugin becomes unresponsive because it keeps running out of Java heap space. We have split the FTS indexer from the FTS searchers (per BMC support recommendations in unpublished KA363429) , so all forward facing ars servers (2 active) go against the same FTS process (we call it FTS_searcher) on the primary admin sever. So far BMC support has had us raise the Xmx from 1024 to 2048, and now to 3072. FYI - this is x64 java process on Windows 2008 x64 Each time we have bump the Xmx it runs out for memory. I was able to reproduce the rapid consumption of java memory by simply performing an incident matching search, the FTS_searcher process used up 2Gb in less than 10 seconds. Additionally, I've seen the plugin still state it was out of java heap even though the java process was no longer consuming the max Xmx defined (I'm guessing because GC ran). Looks like a lack of recovery mechanisms in place. Our FTS collection folder is 34GB in size (is that large? Above the average?), about 1.4 million incidents indexed will be the majority, plus PBIs, CRQs, RKM KAs If you have experienced similar behavior I'd love to hear your comments, but I mainly want to try and gauge from the community (with a similar setup) how stable they have seen this functionality to be. We were almost ready to go live with 7.6.04, but this is a show stopper - we can't have this instability. Regards, Andrew C. Re: SRM Data Visualization Module
Thanks Shawan Regards ravi Date: Thu, 26 Jul 2012 09:26:08 -0500 From: smrosenbe...@gmail.com Subject: Re: SRM Data Visualization Module To: arslist@ARSLIST.ORG ** Ravi, Here is a list of what we worked with and the locations we discovered so far. I'll update if we discover any other components. Data Visualization Definition form within Remedy SRMSServiceRequestBrowser:resources/css/list-services.css - Modifying this file allowed us to change the length of the Title fields and to allow the Title field to wrap in order to display additional information. Other changes can be made here as well; however, we have not tested them all. SRMSServiceRequestBrowser:resources/css/browse-categories.css. I believe this one controls the categories list of services. (We have not tested yet) SRMSServiceRequestBrowser:resources/css/browse-services.css I believe this controls the initial page of services. (We have not tested yet) SRM Tile entries also exist here (SRM-Tile-small-online.gif, SRM-Tile-small.gif and SRM-Tile-large-gif. We were trying to change the SRM-Tile-small-online.gif; however, updating the entry here had no impact) Data Visualization Module form in Remedy SRMServiceRequestBrowser - This is the module called up for SRM. The Module code is located in the SRMServiceRequestBrowser.jar file which is attached to the module entry. We tried updating the SRM-Tile-small-online.gif here as well since we had discovered another copy of it here. Making this change had no impact. We are still looking into how changing this .jar can impact the SRM module. AR System Resource Definitions form in Remedy Entries with name AG2A0720524153_FYRTAdeHrJAJrwTx, AG2A0720524153_FYRTAdeHrJAJrwT and AG2A0720524153dFYRTAZ8_pJAzrsT. These entries also contain attachments for the SRM .gif files (SRM-tile-large.gif, SRM-tile-small.gif and SRM-tile-small-online.gif). Changing the .gif here did finally the presentation of the SRM module. We have not confirmed yet if only the entry in the AR System Resource Definitions form needs to be updated for the .gif display to change or if you need to make the changes in the other locations as well. When we made the change in the AR System Resource Definitions entry, the other locations had already been changed as well. Once we have more time we will try to test this out. I hope that helps, feel free to ask any questions. We are working our way through this as well and plan on making some more changes to the SRM look and feel in the future. Regards, Shawn Rosenberry Senior Remedy Developer Lyondellbasell Hi Shawn, Can you provide more detail for this change Like whatis the gif file name what was the change. Only Gif was changed or CSS or Jar was also changed We are also having same issue and wanted to change the display of SRM Thanks Regards Ravi Rai Date: Wed, 25 Jul 2012 16:12:48 -0500 From: smrosenbe...@gmail.com Subject: Re: SRM Data Visualization Module To: arslist@ARSLIST.ORG ** Hey Everyone, Just an FYI in case anyone ever wants to update the SRM services tile. We found the .gif file in the Data Visualization Definition form and within the SRMSServiceRequestBrowser.jar file, however, modifying those files had no effect. Always a believer in giving credit where credit is due, one of our developers Rammohan Dosila found that another copy of the .gif is located within the AR System Resource Definitions form. Once that copy was updated and the Mid-Tier cache cleared, the desired change was now reflected within SRM. Unfortunately, not everyone is a fan of the new look especially with how the Title and Description of our Services is being cut off. So far I have been unable to find much in the way for documentation on how to modify this look. I have found the Jar file within the Data Visualization Module form and have found what I believe to be a data limitation within browse-services.js. In particular the section below function truncateDescriptions() { var divs = document.getElementsByTagName('div'); if (divs divs.length 0) { for (var d=0; ddivs.length; d++) { if (divs[d].className == categoryDescription) { var desc = divs[d].innerHTML; var trunc = truncateByBytesUTF8(desc, 240); if (trunc.length desc.length) { divs[d].innerHTML = trunc + #133;;

Re: 7.6.04 FTS real world experience for ITSM global search
Andrew, One of the things I've had to do in a past environment is modify the knowledge search screens that open from within the consoles, mainly the Incident Console. By default, when the screen opens, all of the search sources are checked off so each time a user clicks the Search Knowledge link, a massive search is done. I modified the on open behavior to only check knowledge articles by default. This helped stabilize our environment because it stopped bombarding FTS. Another thing, which maybe you are doing, is dedicating one server to indexing and then separating out the java plugins themselves to be dedicated to each user facing server for searching. FYI – this is x64 java process on Windows 2008 x64 Each time we have bump the Xmx it runs out for memory. I was able to reproduce the rapid consumption of java memory by simply performing an incident matching search, the FTS_searcher process used up 2Gb in less than 10 seconds. Additionally, I’ve seen the plugin still state it was out of java heap even though the java process was no longer consuming the max Xmx defined (I’m guessing because GC ran). Looks like a lack of recovery mechanisms in place. Our FTS collection folder is 34GB in size (is that large? For that matter how many of the electronic sales guys at Best Buy or PC Richards ever know even 50% of the products they are selling.. You ask them about simple things like contrast ratio and what it means and they have no clue.. They have no clue on how the 3D technology works between the Plasma and LCD screens.. I am doing all that research myself at home before I plunder good money on a good 3D television.. which I intend to buy shortly when there are more 3D media available.. One person I talked to did not even know why the 3D glasses on plasma screens were active glasses, while LCD are passive ordinary glasses available in cinemas.. Those work too on most LCD 3D television sets I have tried them on.. On a side note, I think 3D is a gimmick technology that will soon be abandoned. There are commercial applications for it but I don't think it will catch on. This can be seen in the gaming sector as well as looking at future product lines for the major manufacturers. The new thing now is 4k... which I think, Joe, you should wait for! Its gimmick IF and ONLY IF you do not shoot it in real 3D.. You can have your TV software convert regular signals to percept the image that its fed with, to generate the depth digitally.. that’s a freaking gimmick.. It does not work well for even a non trained eye.. However if you shoot your video using a dual camera, and let each eye see only what its supposed to see on the left and right camera, that is not quite a gimmick.. Its as close as the real thing can be.. Plasma 3D – its not quite as good as LCD.. it could hurt your eye.. while the clarity is way higher than lcd 3D because LCD shares the 1080 screen with 720 for left and 720 for right, plasma uses the entire 1080 for both left and right by alternating that signal of left and right at a very very high speed. Hence the active glasses that shut your left and right eye at that high speed, and the resultant picture quality is amazing, but it can hurt your eyes.. Whats the 4K? I’m going to google for it.. Another 3D technology I saw which I don’t know how its created or works.. is the one that Thor IMAX 3D was shot in.. I do not know what that technology was, but in that you as a viewer could choose to focus where you want to, it wasn’t left to the discretion of the cameraman.. You could even choose to focus on a small pebble on the street while everything else went out of focus.. I thought that was mind blowing.. I have never seen another film shot like that as I wasted quite a bit of money going in for almost every 3D show I had time for, that came out after that just to witness that again.. Am yet to see another movie that was shot using that technology whatever it was.. I’m going to check out if the 4K thing you are talking about is the same thing.. 'Modify All' on ITSM HPD:Help Desk 7.6.04 form
Ladies and Gents; Has anyone else seen this or found a fix? We have the need to close multiple tickets all at one time in the Incident form of ITSM 7.6.04. From the web client, when a list is displayed and multiple tickets selected, the 'Modify All' button is visible and active. The button returns a blank form as it should, however nothing is saved to the records when the form is modified and the 'Save' button is clicked. 'Modify All' works as expected on all other forms. Could this be yet another bug or could we be missing an Active Link or Filter, or something? Re: BMC support = Apple store guys?
Seriously though, buying something as simple as a TV these days is no longer just a matter of comparison of prices or whether you want a flat or a contoured screen.. There is so much more to it that its scary at times.. And 5 days after you bought it you realize there was something else there that might have been a better fit... I envy the 1980s where you walked in a store and there were literally 4 brands and 2 models at most from each brand to choose from! And you could make that choice over one cup of tea offered by a store manager.. Maintenance Contracts - Multiple Costs?
Hello all, We are looking to use Asset Management to track our server maintenance contracts. For major suppliers like Sun and HP, the costs are broken out per server, which would like to capture as well. My question is whether or not this means I will need to have a separate sub-contract for each different server cost. It seems like I do, because the only way I find to capture the contract cost is in the 'Cost per Asset' field, Accounting section, General tab. For example, say we have a couple of main contracts, each of which has a couple CSIs, and each of which covers a couple servers: · Sun US hardware contract AAA o CSI 111 - 24x7 § Ent. 420R Ser#xx11 $300 § Ent. 420R Ser#xx12 $200 § Netra T1 Ser#xy11 $250 o CSI 222 § Ent. 420R Ser#xx21 $200 § Netra T1 Ser#xy12 $350 · Sun US hardware contract BBB o CSI 333 § Ent. 420R Ser#xx11 $300 § Ent. 420R Ser#xx12 $200 § Netra T1 Ser#xy11 $250 o CSI 444 § Ent. 420R Ser#xx11 $300 § Ent. 420R Ser#xx12 $200 § Netra T1 Ser#xy11 $250 Is there another way to capture the separate asset cost, or do I need to create a separate contract for each cost value? In this case, that would mean the main and CSI contracts would be master contracts, and each of the bottom levels would be a maintenance contract of its own. The overall goal is to have full capture of the contract costs, from the top down (how much does 'Sun US hardware contract AAA' cost?) to the bottom up (how much are we paying in maintenance for our Enterprise 420Rs?). Re: 'Modify All' on ITSM HPD:Help Desk 7.6.04 form
Actually Chuck; That only works if the ticket is already in Resolved state. It simply resets the 'Status' to Closed. What we need to do is set several open tickets at once to 'Status' Resolved and include a 'Resolution' and perhaps a 'Notes' entry on each. Modify All is the method used in every previous version of Remedy for all clients (fat or web). Re: 'Modify All' on ITSM HPD:Help Desk 7.6.04 form
That was fixed it in either patch 1 or patch 2 of 7.6.04. I think you just have to upgrade the midtier.
