Lidia,

I think you need to look at the service target definition itself and check that
on the Measurement tab you have set to Yes option - Reset Goal for Same Request.

Hope this helps.

Hi Jiri,
Thank you for your answer. Now I reset goal only when I modify the Assigned
Group, but the second request do not start with the full time allowed, as I
would like.
I have left the Start Time for Request-Based empty to use the system date as
explained in the documentation but it does not work.

Lidia,

I believe your condition is incorrect.
We do exactly the same thing here and the condition to use in "Reset Goal for
Same request when should be 'TR.Assigned Group ID' != $\NULL$
Your condition would be true even when no change to the assignee group is made,
in fact your condition is perhaps true all the time.

I would like to reset the goal when I change the Assigned group.

Then in the Application Administration Console, SLM, Configure App. Settings,

Reset Goal for Same request when : 'TR.Assigned Group ID' !='DB.Assigned Group

And I let the Start Time for Request-Based empty.
But it does not work correctly: goal is reset also if the assigned groups has

Re: driver.exe, row counts...

2012-08-29 Thread Misi Mladoniczky
Hi,

Well, this particular code might very well work across databases.

The other main concern with Direct SQL is that it is untraceable by the AR
System. The AR System does not understand what you are doing, and you can
not use AR tools to trace and analyze it in the same way as other
workflow.

Then we have the issue of going straight at the T-tables, and other things
related to datatype-conversion for timestamps, enum-values

You will also be bypassing permissions.

I am convinced that using the ARAPI and the provided AR-workflow-actions
is worth some effort in lieu of direct SQL. Even if it would mean some
small performance hit.

In this specific case, it much depends on the nomber of records in the table.

Hello Paul,

There are ways around the "unqualified search" issues as you hit upon.
Personally, in our org we found unqualified searches caused degradation in
our performance and at times locking up the mid-tier.

To solve our problem our admin has put in a get list limit. But we also
have disallowed unqualified searches.

Re: driver.exe, row counts...

2012-08-29 Thread Ben Chernys
No database that I know of :) The "flat file" database was dropped some time
ago. I expect it would not have worked on it.

View Names can be different in different databases and are given by the
"ViewName" column of arschema (since 7.1). For an algorithm to get the view
names prior to 7.1 for all databases, look at the sample script
ArSchema-Report

(also available in the Script Library).

Cheers

Ben

I suppose if ARS implements view names for their tables differently in another
database, it would not be "HPD_Help_Desk", but does anyone know of which
database that would be? Just curious because the above works on Oracle and SQL

Is normalization required prior to identifying CIs so that relationships to
softwareserver and applicationsystem get created when we reconcile?

All relationships are there in BMC.ADDM with ReconID = 0. However these
relationship are not being created in BMC.ASSET. The standard rule for the
recon restricts the rule to Reconid != 0. Wouldn't we still be able to have
a relationship between computersystem and softwareserver without the
dependency relationship between softwareserver to products and the
hostedsystemcomponent from computersystem to product if no normalization
took place?

Re: SQL error

2012-08-29 Thread Jose Manuel Huerta Guillén
To check if it is related to error 302, you must check the error log file
at the server. If it is 302, you will see a lot of logs of this error.

In our case we didn't solved it yet. For us its a problem investigation
with a proposed workaround (repeat the search). I think that it is related
to the database we use (Oracle RAC), but not sure.

Re: unqualified searches

2012-08-29 Thread Brittain, Mark
Dave - that is my understanding too. I allow unqualified searches, actually
this was inherited, and don't see a problem. In general I think people search
for something (in Remedy). I would suggest not setting up searches behind
buttons/active links that you would expect large results. People tend to use
button searches and get annoyed when they don't get all they expect. As your
system grows it is also good to review these searches. As an example back in
2000 show all open ticket worked great but today would exceed what the client
can display so I cut that one out.

What we did to get around this issue is only allowed it on one of our servers,
server group of 4 with 3 out of 4 on the load balancer. That way the people
that need the ability to do the searches can, by directly connecting to that
server and the "normal" users are not affected if there are any performance
issues.
You could also set the "Max entries Returned" to something that would be
appropriate for the searches required but will still prevent any performance
hits.

You may see performance hits if some one creates a malformed search that
returns every record that was created in the table.

For tables with not much data no problem. If you've been using the ITSM Suite

Is there any harm in allowing unqualified searches in a production environment.
We had been told that we should disallow this for production, but we are
finding that in order to leverage some of the reporting capabilities
(dynamically choosing parameters such as groups) this option is prohibiting
this. In essence this really isn't doing much as a user can do a search where

ADM:ARS List Social Conventions

2012-08-29 Thread Daniel Bloom
First a bit of trivia: The first post to the ARS List was by me on Tues.
November 2nd, 1993

Topic: Hey, there are 27 of you out there, how come no one posts? It was my
Welcome to all to the ARS List

[too few posts has not been an issue ever since]

Apparently I wrote this back in 2008, I think much of this was borrowed from
somewhere but I can't remember where.

Not sure the last time I posted it was, and of particular interest is the
last paragraph about Identify Yourself:

Social conventions (netiquette)

Like so many other things, network users tend to expend a great deal of
virtual gunpowder about the subject of etiquette on the network (otherwise
known as netiquette).

Part of the culture of the network is built on the fact that an individual
user can put forward any face he or she cares to present. Thus over time,
the

network has evolved various sets of rules that attempt to govern conduct. To
avoid taking up a great deal of space arguing the merits of differing
systems of

netiquette, the following general pointers that should be accepted by most
users are offered for the convenience of the list owner.

Recognize and Accept Cultural and Linguistic Differences

The Internet is international, and while English is generally accepted as
the common language of the network, list owners and list subscribers cannot
afford to take the position that everyone on the Internet understands
English well. In a medium that is invariably connected to language, special
understanding is required to deal with questions or statements from people
for whom English is not the primary tongue. Often today (at least in the US)
a person's first sustained interaction with others on an international basis
is via the Internet. It is imperative that this interaction be on the
highest level of cordiality and respect from the outset in order for all
concerned to benefit.

Additionally, care should be taken when using local idiom and slang. A
common word or phrase used by Americans in everyday speech, for instance,
might be taken as profanity or insult by those in other English-speaking
countries, and may not be understood at all by non-native speakers of
English. When a list has a high international readership, it is probably
best to avoid non-standard English so as to provide the clearest and
least-objectionable exchange of ideas.

Private Mail Should Dictate Private Responses

If someone on a mailing list has sent a private message to you (i.e., not to
the list at large) and you have lost that person's address but want to
respond, do not post private mail to the list. The REVIEW command will give
you a copy of the list membership that you can search for the person's
address. If this approach does not work, contact the local postmaster or the
list owner for help.

Flaming is (Usually) Inappropriate

There is no such thing as a stupid question.

Flames (insults) belong in private mail, if they belong in mail at all.
Discussions will often result in disagreements. Rebuttals to another
person's opinions or beliefs should always be made in a rational, logical
and mature manner, whether they are made publicly or privately. What is a
flame can range from the obvious (ranting and raving, abusive comments,
etc.) to the not-so-obvious (comments about how many "newbies" seem to be on
the list these days, "RTFM!" exhortations, etc.).

Foul Language

Subscribers should refrain from abusive or derogatory language that might be
considered questionable by even the most liberal and open-minded of
networkers. If you wouldn't say it in front of your mother, don't say it in
electronic mail.

Unsolicited Advertising and Chain Letters

Most of these are contrary to appropriate use policies governing the use of
the poster's Internet access provider. Not only that, they are annoying and
(in the case of chain letters) often illegal.

Identify Yourself

It is common courtesy, and on the ARSlist a requirement, to identify
yourself. If you are posting about a competitor, it is at the very least
unethical not to mention who you are.

In special circumstances, where it is in the best interest of the ARSlist, a
blind posting will be authorized, but it must be agreed to by the list
owner(s) first: daniel.bl...@danielbloom.ca An example is a BMC Remedy Corp.
employee who wants to unofficially inform the list.

HTH Daniel

Founder of the ARS List (apparently that was what I first called it)

Yes.
Repeating the operation is clearing the issue. But we are coming across nearly

of this reason. It would be really helpful if you can suggest any solution to
avoid this.

Re: [SPAM]Re: OT - If BMC Remedy had a theme song

2012-08-29 Thread Jose Manuel Huerta Guillén
For me is "Hotel California".

All the lyrics are a description of my life inside Remedy...

"Any time of year you can find us here"

or

"We are all just prisoners here, of our own device"

or

"You can check-out any time you like,
But you can never leave!"

I'm clearly identified with those sentences...

All,

I seem to remember setting date format to  "Z" for Zulu instead of "AM" or "PM"

Rather than look back in my old code, I thought I'd ask the list (I'm Lazy and
some of you military folks probably do this as a rule).

FYI, BMC extended the End-Of-Support date for AR System 7.1.00 and the rest of

after the tentatively expected GA release of 8.0.01 - the first Service Pack to

Meta-Query, bundled with Meta-Update, allows you to run any SQL query without
any SQL clients. In addition, one of the script library samples, AR Tables
Report

, generates a CSV of pertinent fields from arschema and adds a record count
for some table types.

The distribution can be unzipped on any client machine. Deleting the files is
the uninstall procedure.

Trials are free and include all bundled utilities: Meta-Update, Query, Schema,

Hi,

The driver-program should work fine with the ARGetListEntry()-api-call.

The important thing here is to minimize the impact on the target if you have
millions of records. That is why I specify one Query List Field where I only
return one byte.

Secondly I specify 1 as max entries returned.

You can still see the total count in "Number of matches: 174"

My Favorite Remedy Things - Rick Cook - 05/06/04 04:42 PM

New Escalations that run every morning
Forms full of jpegs the GUI adorning
Active Links that make my user views sing These are a few of my favorite things

When I’m coding, mind exploding
With thoughts good and bad
I simply remember my favorite things,
And then I don’t feel so sad.

Calls full of syntax that’s not quite full SQL Full of parentheses that are not
equal Doug Mueller explaining EXTERNAL strings These are a few of my favorite
things

When the bugs mount, think I’ve lost count When I’m feeling bad I simply
remember my favorite things, And then I don’t feel so sad.

View Fields and Web services are the coolest But when I use them I feel like a
foolest.
Then the ARSlist posters do bring
Help that is one of my favorite things

When I get stuck, when I’m skosh luck,
When I’m feeling bad.
I simply remember my favorite things,
And then I don’t feel so sad.

Every time something bad spawns or it hatches Lots of releases and lots of bug
patches From engineering to our door they bring Closure that’s one of my
favorite things

When my client’s not compliant
When I’m feeling bad.
I simply remember my favorite things,
And then I don’t feel so sad.

Yeah, it is clear that the HR folks wrote this req. I have yet to see a role
in Remedy that required more than maybe an A.S. in Computers, as long as some
significant experience accompanied it. Schooling will teach methodology, but
experience teaches reality.

** Mark (and everyone else),
See the attached excel file. It has some questions that a client came up with
but more importantly, it mimics the risk calculation algorithm within remedy.
So you can plug in the questions, pick the answers, and it will give you the
risk level. This is handy to give to the end users who are trying to determine
how much weight to give questions and things like that. Hope it helps.

not very user friendly so I was thinking I would make that field read only and

OOB the questions are not great. Does anyone have a list questions that they

Reset Goal for Same request when : 'TR.Assigned Group ID' !='DB.Assigned Group

(I went to a baseball game last night (Minnesota Twins) -- and for some reason
I was paying attention to the theme song for each batter -- kind of fun)

Anyways, if BMC Remedy had a theme song - what would it be?

Re: SLM, SVT: reset goal for same request

2012-08-29 Thread Jiri Pospisil

Subject: SLM, SVT: reset goal for same request

**
Hi listers,
I am trying to implement the SLM- SVT option: Reset goal for same request.
I would like to reset the goal when I change the Assigned group.
So I set < Reset goal for same request =Yes > for my SVT.
Then in the Application Administration Console, SLM, Configure App. Settings,
Data Sources, HPD :Help Desk, Request BasedI define:
Reset Goal for Same request when : 'TR.Assigned Group ID' !='DB.Assigned Group
ID' !
And I let the Start Time for Request-Based empty.
But it does not work correctly: goal is reset also if the assigned groups has
not changed and I obtain an endless loop
I have the ITSM Incident management 7.5. and SLM 7.6
Can someone help me?
Best regards
Lidia Dorsaz
