As Terry mentioned we also had to install the mid-tier on our CR Server
even though we don't actually use that mid-tier.  Hasn't been an issue, the
files are just sitting there not doing anything other than providing the
viewer we need.

The documentation makes this process appear straight forward but it is
not.  It took over a week of working with support and making numerous
configuration adjustments to get it to work.  We don't use BMC support so
it appears to be an issue across the board.

Now that we have everything working we are very satisfied with the
results.  The reports run faster than they ever did on the user tool, a
pleasant outcome.  The only reports we have an issue with are those that
used the dialog parameter of running a report via an active link button.
But we have replaced alot of those with Report Console Scheduled reports,
not quite as flexible but can be worked around.  The Report Console reports
do lack any way to format, cannot even do landscape, or get totals.  I'm
hoping these things will be future enhancements.

Hi Ron,

I've implemented a system of leveraging the audit form capability to
capture individual field edits to a central audit form at a couple of
sites.

With form auditing on, each time a new row is written to the forms
respective audit form the fields that have changed are stored in one field.
I parse that field and extract the old and new values for each field (from
previous central audit records and from the new audit form) and put them in
to a single form. This allows detailed reporting on who changed what field
from what and when.

Yes, it does chew up a bit of disk space but remember 1) disk space is
relatively cheap these days 2) you don't need to audit every field 3) you
can archive the audit data.

I recommend taking this project on. Remedy has some very neat auditing and
archiving features that you can use to their potential.

You are not the first one to experience this. 

The short answer is "No".  You must install the midtier on the BO server.
No work-arounds.  Sorry.   I've worked with BMC Support extensively
regarding this issue and, at this point, you must install the midtier.

I tried it in production and got a user that was having the issue to test 
it. Not working.  Still getting the error. But if he clears his cache he 
is good for one pass then he gets the error as soon as he gets back into 
the application.

I am not sure how it fixes it, but there seems to be some corruption that 
happens to the user's search preference, especially if it was migrated 
from the older version. The error usually pops in the consoles because the 
first thing that the console workflow does is to pull data for the logged 
in user from the AR System Search Preference table. Upon returning data to 
the form, the corrupt data ends up causing the mid-tier to throw the 
error. It is something in one of the rows that is returned. I would 
suggest trying it with one of your problem users in Production. I never 
got a straight answer on how to prevent it from happening.

This happened to me when upgrading to 7.6.04 SP2. Our particular error, 
Caught exception :Object doesn't support property or method, was being 
caused by the AR System Search Preferences form. Apparently any user 
search preferences that were created previous to the upgrade were causing 
the issue. BMC recommended deleting entries in the AR System Search 
Preferences form. It only happened to a few users and when they would 
encounter these issues, I would go to that form and delete any entries for 

a particular user. That error usually pops up whenever the user would go

We need some help with a production issue from all the web guru out there.

This issue only happens since we upgraded our environment to AR Server and 

Mid Tier to 7.6.04 SP5.
This is only on a custom Web application.

Only users on IE 9 or IE10 experience this error. The same users were fine 

on Mid Tier 7.5 patch 007.
Users on IE8 are OK. 

We have the web servers running in IE8 compatibility mode in QA as a test 
to see if it would solved the issue, but that did not solved the issue. It 

doesn't seemed to be a compatibility issue anyway.

We told the user to clear their cache and run in compatibility mode but 
that doesn't work at all just in case but off course it doesn't change 
anything.

As anyone have any idea what this could be? and why only since the 
upgrade?

We've had this same issue on 7.6.4 and in general we either have the users 
clear their browser cache, and if that doesn't work delete the search 
preference as you do.  Unfortunately we've had a lot more issues with the Mid 
Tier start popping up, probably due to more users and a variety of 
environments, but the "clear your browser cache" phrase is heard throughout the 
Remedy userbase as "reboot" was heard by Windows 95 users.

This happened to me when upgrading to 7.6.04 SP2. Our particular error, 
Caught exception :Object doesn't support property or method, was being 
caused by the AR System Search Preferences form. Apparently any user 
search preferences that were created previous to the upgrade were causing 
the issue. BMC recommended deleting entries in the AR System Search 
Preferences form. It only happened to a few users and when they would 
encounter these issues, I would go to that form and delete any entries for 
a particular user. That error usually pops up whenever the user would go 
to one of the consoles. Try that out.

Mid Tier to 7.6.04 SP5.

on Mid Tier 7.5 patch 007.
Users on IE8 are OK. 

We have the web servers running in IE8 compatibility mode in QA as a test 
to see if it would solved the issue, but that did not solved the issue. It 
doesn't seemed to be a compatibility issue anyway.

We told the user to clear their cache and run in compatibility mode but 
that doesn't work at all just in case but off course it doesn't change 
anything.

As anyone have any idea what this could be? and why only since the 
upgrade?

We are experiencing the same issue. It appears to be with our users who 
have
updated their browser to IE 10. As a company, were are set to IE 8, but 
some
users are managing to update their browser. Our resolution has been
recreating the users account.

And so far the error seems to be gone. 
I will  not do the happy happy joy joy dance yet.
But I don't understand the link between that form and the error.  But the
Web is not my strongest point knowledge.

How to install Crystal Web Viewer w/out midtier in 8.1

Is there a way to install the Crystal Web Viewer WITHOUT the midtier in 8.1? We 
just want the web viewer piece, not the entire thing, for our Business Objects 
box. But it seems the installer has changed and no longer offers a drill-down 
to choose from, but the entire midtier.

Any suggestions are appreciated! Thanks.

According to the release note of 7.6.04 SP5, it is already IE9 and IE10 
compatible.
And I do not see any 7.6.04  patch 5.3  We are not on ITSM  we are on ARS 
only 100% custom.

Hi,

Yes, you can not use the -c option. This prevents it from linking the program.

There should be no need to specify the so-files. This will be handled
automatically with a single -L/apps/tim/ar/api/lib/ if you have all the
libraries there.

The libicu* files are typically stored separately. In the downloads I supply
they are located in an /api/bin/ folder. These are needed at run-time only I
think.

Caught exception :Object doesn't support property or method 'getProxyGlobalFields -

Hi all,

We need some help with a production issue from all the web guru out there.

This issue only happens since we upgraded our environment to AR Server and 
Mid Tier to 7.6.04 SP5.
This is only on a custom Web application.

Only users on IE 9 or IE10 experience this error. The same users were fine 
on Mid Tier 7.5 patch 007.
Users on IE8 are OK. 

We have the web servers running in IE8 compatibility mode in QA as a test

The field was showing Read/Write, but it was Display Only in the Entry Mode.  I 
guess I copied this field from the Display Only form.
Following the steps you provided, it did allow me to change the Entry Mode to 
Optional and the field now saves data.  I just need to go back and redirect the 
push action from the Display Only form to this "new" field.

The field is a read-only field, if you look at the database details, you should 
be able to confirm that.  If you copy the field, delete it, save the form, 
paste it back onto the form, then change it's type to optional, then re-save 
the form, you should be good to be able to start saving data in the field.

I have no problems compiling. And I have no problems linking in Linux either,
this is purely a HP-UX problem.

It seems you have missed to include the -lar_lx64. I think the -m32 should be
removed, and you should add -DAR_STRICT_ANSI -D_REENTRANT -malign-double.

If by 'entries', you are referring to the configuration in the AREALDAP form, 
those values are stored in the ar.cfg file.  I routinely copy/paste those 
entries from an existing environment to a new environment when building it 
outso I would say yes...it's possible, but not in the export/arx method you 
are describing.

Sounds like your DB entry mode on the field on form B is set to Display.  It 
needs to be Required or Optional in order to save the data.  Look at the 
Database properties for the field in Dev Studio.

Kelvin,
The field is a read-only field, if you look at the database details, you
should be able to confirm that.  If you copy the field, delete it, save the
form, paste it back onto the form, then change it's type to optional, then
re-save the form, you should be good to be able to start saving data in the
field.

Chad,
If by 'entries', you are referring to the configuration in the AREALDAP
form, those values are stored in the ar.cfg file.  I routinely copy/paste
those entries from an existing environment to a new environment when
building it outso I would say yes...it's possible, but not in the
export/arx method you are describing.

Archiving using MS SQL Server Linked Server or Linked Table

Hello all,



Has anybody had experience with archiving ITSM data to an archive DB and
then being able to perform Read-Only queries on all of it through some
"linked" capability?



I am investigating the concepts of Linked Server or Linked Table, but this
may be the wrong direction. The term "chaining" also comes to mind.



If you can lead me in the right direction, I can research the rest.

Copy AREA LDAP entries

Hello,

Wondering if anyone has successfully copied AREA LDAP entries from one ARS to 
another.  We have several entries so exporting would save time, but I was told 
this had to be done manually through AREA LDAP Configuration.  I was able to 
export entries in arx format from Configuration ARDBC and import them but not 
sure if this is all that is needed.  Any assistance would be welcomed.
