Re: Version compatibilty

2014-08-29 Thread jayesh panchal
Hi LJ,

But we have many options in Dev studio 8.x like Granular overlays, Overlays
in Object properties etc. This options will be available based on ARS
version or Dev studio version?

If those options are available based on Dev studio version then it might be
confusing for them if they are not aware what this properties can do.

Even I was using 8.0 Dev studio against 8.1.01 ARS version and I was not
able to align the fields properly with older dev studio version so this
small small things will not work i guess due to version mismatch.

Kindly correct me if I am wrong.

Jayesh

Re: Version compatibilty

2014-08-29 Thread Tauf Chowdhury
Jayesh,
What LJ and others are saying is backward compatibility. You mentioned using
the 8.0 dev studio against 8.1.01. That would be considered a future version
and probably why you are seeing issues.
Obviously, some features in a later version of dev studio would be unavailable
against an earlier version of the ARS platform because those features are only
available in a later version.
It's like a car... You can take a v8 engine and somehow fit it under the good
of a honda civic, but unless you change the headers, intake, transmission etc..
You're still getting the performance of a 4 banger. :)

Re: Escalation Permission Error

2014-08-29 Thread Tauf Chowdhury
Brian,
It looks like this isn't an error with the Escalation but really an error
thrown by a filter because of the type of operation you are trying to
perform. (Hope that makes sense)
For example, as a user, I may try to take a Change request and move it
directly from Planning In Progress to Completed using the Status dropdown.
When I try to save, a filter throws the error: You don't have sufficient
permissions to perform this change.
So, I think you need to look at the update you're trying to make, do it
manually, see what the error is, and try to work around that.

Thanks, I didn't even look at it from the aspect that it isn't worded as a
system error. Too many things to address at the same time. I will find it

the right path.

Tauf, I knew that it was some action being intiated by the escalation, but
I was thinking about it from the aspect that escalations usually had full
power and permissions didn't impact them. It not being a system message
definitely points to the issue.

Thanks again.

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions. Our outbound e-mail is SMTP so it is
decoupled from the inbound mail which is where I’m having the problem. I guess
what I am looking for is really something I can run from a different server
that can check the number of messages in the mailbox via POP3 without pulling
any of them down. If the check only runs every 10 minutes then the Remedy
e-mail engine will have had four chances to pick up the messages and I could
trigger an alert on that. I’ll have to exercise some good-old fashioned
Google-fu to see what I can come up with.

The frustrating part is that there was nothing logged at all, the engine just
failed to grab the messages. I had already thought of calling an external
script to use sendmail to send the alert for queued up outbound messages but
fortunately that isn’t a problem.

I essentially do the same thing as Fred, but since we have Windows servers, I
use powershell to send the email, if it helps anyone:
powershell -command Send-MailMessage -smtpServer smtpserver -to $Char Param
01$ -from $SERVER$@companyname -subject \=== ALERT === AR System Email
Messages Count: $z1D Integer 01$ ($SERVER$)\ -body \$z1D Char 01$\

A set fields prior to this run process sets the char field for the body. I
also have similar filters to check for Application Pending records that might
not be processing and a few other things. It's all attached to an Automation
form, with separate records and filters for the things I'm checking.

Filter 2 says if there are more than 25 emails waiting to send alert people

I've seen this in Linux from time to time as well. It's not really frequent
but it does happen. We're on SuSe linux running 7.6.04 sp 5. Another
environment is on SuSe with 8.1 - and it's happened to both.

There's not a great way to test it honestly, since when it dies this way it
doesn't appear to do anything bad. There's nothing in the log files for the
monitoring tools to grab. In fact, a couple of weeks ago this died on a
Saturday and for some reason no one noticed until Tuesday morning. Then I
fixed itand it sent 200,000+ emails out. I was *very* popular that day

We've kicked around a couple of idea like writing workflow to notify us of
this, but the problem there is that everyone wants to get notified by
email...sothat's not going to work. It turns out a broken email process
won't send email either :)

I think long term the best solution would be for BMC to separate the email

Hi Jason :)

I guess you were thinking about arsystem.inclusion_goto_urls:
https://communities.bmc.com/thread/95765
But it seems it only works for the logout servlet if you do a customize button
and you are using goto (?):
https://docs.bmc.com/docs/display/public/ars81/Creating+a+login+or+logout+form+element+button

The problem is that the login.jsp page is hardcoded in
DefaultAuthenticator.class from MidTier.jar.

I°) first solution:
Soo, I used a hexa editor to change the value from login.jsp to
klatu.jsp.
My login page is klatu.jsp and when the login fails, it's redirected to
klatu.jsp so it seems to work in this case :)
Then the problem is that you can't really put whatever you want in url because
of course the .class is byte coded, so if you put klatuishere.jsp it's too
long.
One way I did it was I had a page klatuishere.jsp which is my login page.
Though in the class file, I just put klatu.jsp to respect the string length.
In klatu.jsp, I have a simple redirect to klatuishere.jsp :)
It seems to work.

The problem is that it means that of course the klatu.jsp page will be called
for all failed login, and maybe you don't want this since it replaces one
hardcoded value by another...

II°) Other way:
Let's say you have two pages, one login_normal.jsp for standard users and
klatuishere.jsp for special users.
When someone uses the special klatuishere.jsp, you generate a special
cookie and you store the information klatu in it. If the user user
login_normal.jsp, just store login inside the cookie.
After the failed login, you are sent back to login.jsp, though in this file
you modify it to read the content of the cookie.
If inside the cookie you see klatu, you redirect to klatuishere.jsp, else
to login_normal.jsp.

It seems to be working, I made a test.
Though I made quite some screencaptures and a video so well...

If you want how it went, please check this url, you have the explanation of
both methods, the source codes and the video that shows the demo:
https://communities.bmc.com/docs/DOC-32806

It isn't Remedy workflow objects that handle this. It is coded into Mid Tier.
Purely guessing but you could likely find the .jsp or .jsfile that has the
logic and path you could change.

I am figuring you have customer that are using login.jsp as a valid page? Is
this group of users that are using the custom login page more important (for a
lack of a better term) than customers hitting the login.jsp page? I have to
question the level of effort to make this work as desired vs. the benefit.

I have a fuzzy recollection of an 8.x feature to perform custom custom
redirection but I can't find it in documentation. I don't remember the context
other than something to do with URLs or redirecting to web pages so I am not
sure if this newish feature is a possible solution.

Beyond Remedy stuff if your users that need a special login page have some way
they can be identified by their machine (like computer subnet, etc.) you
probably do something fancy with Apache httpd (mod_rewrite) or scripting in
IIS. Still wondering if the ROI is there though.

PDT To Generate Multiple WO's

2014-08-29 Thread Matthew Greene
I have the task of generating a Service Request Entry that uses a multiple
selection question (check boxes) to generate a work order for the selected
choices.

Example of 4 different choices (A, B, C, D)
I want to select A C and generate a CRQ to be sent to those only.

Within my PDT I have my conditional decisions stacked on each other with a
Variable defined as VAR:Center as a Process Input and Input Required. The
decision conditions are defined as:
'VAR:Center' LIKE %A%
'VAR:Center' LIKE %B%
'VAR:Center' LIKE %C%
'VAR:Center' LIKE %D%

Once I get to the Service Request Entry I am selecting A C. I get a CRQ
generated for A, but it doesn't flow through the decisions to bypass B,
generate C, and finally bypass D. There are no errors showing in the process
view either.

I also tested a Service Request Entry by selecting B C. The decision
correctly bypassed A, generated the CRQ for B, but then didn't generate C or
even bypass D.

I'm trying to cover all scenarios of selecting my choices and generating
CRQs...just selecting 1 of them, which seems to work, selecting 2 of them,
three of them or all 4 of them.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

because of course the .class is byte coded, so if you put klatuishere.jsp
 it's too long.
One way I did it was I had a page klatuishere.jsp which is my login
page. Though in the class file, I just put klatu.jsp to respect the
 string length.
 In klatu.jsp, I have a simple redirect to klatuishere.jsp :)
 It seems to work.

The problem is that it means that of course the klatu.jsp page will be
called for all failed login, and maybe you don't want this since it
replaces one hardcoded value by another...

 II°) Other way:
Let's say you have two pages, one login_normal.jsp for standard users
 and klatuishere.jsp for special users.
When someone uses the special klatuishere.jsp, you generate a special
cookie and you store the information klatu in it. If the user user
login_normal.jsp, just store login inside the cookie.
After the failed login, you are sent back to login.jsp, though in this
file you modify it to read the content of the cookie.
If inside the cookie you see klatu, you redirect to klatuishere.jsp,
 else to login_normal.jsp.

It seems to be working, I made a test.
Though I made quite some screencaptures and a video so well...

If you want how it went, please check this url, you have the explanation
of both methods, the source codes and the video that shows the demo:

It isn't Remedy workflow objects that handle this. It is coded into Mid

has the logic and path you could change.

I am figuring you have customer that are using login.jsp as a valid page?
Is this group of users that are using the custom login page more
important (for a lack of a better term) than customers hitting the login.
jsp page? I have to question the level of effort to make this work as
 desired vs. the benefit.

I have a fuzzy recollection of an 8.x feature to perform custom custom
redirection but I can't find it in documentation. I don't remember the
context other than something to do with URLs or redirecting to web pages so
I am not sure if this newish feature is a possible solution.

Beyond Remedy stuff if your users that need a special login page have
some way they can be identified by their machine (like computer subnet,
etc.) you probably do something fancy with Apache httpd (mod_rewrite) or
scripting in IIS. Still wondering if the ROI is there though.

 Hi folks,

I’m trying to find out where the workflow is coming from that causes the
login.jsp page to display when using a customizedLogin.jsp page encounters
 ARERR 9388 (Authentication failed).

We have a customized login page for a group of users, which displays
correct; the problem occurs when the user mistypes his/her user name or
password and encounters the Authentication failed error. As the error
appears, the window and url change to display the url and page for the
 login.jsp.

We’re using Mid Tier with Remedy 7.6.04.

 Can you assit, please?

Login.jsp Redirection: Many Thanks: Laurent Matheo

2014-08-29 Thread Champagne, Susan
I just want to say how impressed I am with the amount of time Laurent put into
showing me and others how to accomplish the task of redirecting to a login page
other than login.jsp. The youtube video, as well as all of the attached
documents/screen shots are phenomenal. I have learned so much and you have
provided me with options from which I can choose.

I will indeed stay away from the not for the faint of heart option, :) and
stick with the cookie option.

Thank you so much!

 Hi Jason :)

I guess you were thinking about arsystem.inclusion_goto_urls:
 https://communities.bmc.com/thread/95765
But it seems it only works for the logout servlet if you do a customize
button and you are using goto (?):
 https://docs.bmc.com/docs/display/public/ars81/Creating+a+login+or+logout+form+element+button

Licensing oddity

2014-08-29 Thread Drake, David
Odd licensing issue...I exported out the license information from one of the
app servers I have in a 3 server group. Then we rebuilt the boxes from scratch.
Neither names nor IPs changed. After the ARS install on the first box, I
imported the licenses that I'd exported earlier. The first box will then allow
for the other installs to go (Atrium, ITSM, SRM and SLM). However, the second
and third boxes, upon initiating the install of Atrium, indicate that they are
not licensed. Has anyone seen this before possibly?

ARS 7.6.04 SP5
Atrium 7.6.04 SP1
ITSM 7.6.04 SP1
SRM 7.6.04 SP1
SLM 7.6.04 SP1
MS SQL 2K5
Windows 2008 servers

Thanks!
