How to set Server language after upgrade - 6.3 - 7.1

2007-11-28 Thread Bezhenar, Dmitry
Hello List!

My environment is the following -

Oracle 9.2, Windows 2003, ARS 6.3,
However the Oracle DB Charset is UTF-8, there was stated - Server Language -
RUS;1251 in the Server Information - Configuration tab.

After I upgraded ARS to 7.1 version there is stated - Server Language - RUS;
UTF-8 in the Server Information - Configuration tab,
and cyrillic characters became unreadable.

I assume that I need to set the Server Language back to RUS;1251 in order to
solve the problem, but I do not know how to do this.

I tried to set NLS_LANG variable in the ar.cfg file, but that does not work at
all.

Thank you for your help in advance.

Kind Regards
Dmitry Bezhenar

Hello Frank,

Thank you for your useful answer.
I have a question reg. item 7 in your list.
How is it possible to tie a report, which exports data to application, to an
Open Window action?
There are only 3 options - screen, file and printer.

Kind Regards / C ?

Classification: UNCLASSIFIED
Caveats: NONE

This can be done in the following way:

1. Create a DDE.ini file in your Home directory
2. Copy the following into the DDE.ini text file

[excelrecord]
Path=c:\excel\excel.exe
Application=excel
Topic=system
Format=TAB
XFRDATA=Clipboard
Command1=[NEW(1)][PASTE()][SAVE.AS(,0)]

3. Enable Report to Application option is selected in the Options
dialog box
4. Build and save a report in the Remedy User tool
5. Choose Report Export to Application from the Report menu bar
6. Your query and created report will be sent to Excel
7. Tie this report to an Open Window action in an Active Link with a
Button (Permissions: Public)

Below is a web link with explains this in more detail:

http://service-it-remedy.web.cern.ch/service-it-remedy/clients/aruser/Re
ports15.html

A description is also available in the Remedy User Tool help.

You can also execute Visual Basic code. To do this you will need to
substitute VB for the
Command1=[NEW(1)][PASTE()][SAVE.AS(,0)] see VB Help for more detail.
You will have to work with relative addressing in Visual Basic (a
recorded macro in VB will give you static addressing).

Hi Listers,

I require to perform a data export of a regular form to an excel sheet
on click of a button. And also that it shouldnt require the user to
interact other than clicking the button.

I tried by using the Open window action to run a report but here again
it requires the user to select a format to which the data has to be
saved as. i require that the workflow automatically opens an excel sheet
and displays the exported data on to the excel sheet.

i would appreciate if some one could shed some light on this or if
anyone has done the same to share the idea.

thanks and regards

Anesh

Anybody knows where I can control encoding settings when using DDE?

How to create an AD account using Remedy vendor form?

2007-06-25 Thread Bezhenar, Dmitry
Hello List,

I am just curious if it is possible to create AD accounts using vendor forms? I
tried to create one, but got this error -

UpdErr: DSID-03050FB5, problem 6002 (OBJ_CLASS_VIOLATION), data 0

I think the problem is Request ID field (samAccountname in my case). Remedy

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Date/time format

2007-06-19 Thread Bezhenar, Dmitry
Hello List,

I have a problem with the date/time format on our ARS server.

At the moment our format is like this (if I write $TIMESTAMP$ somewhere)
MM/DD/YY HH:MM:SS AM/PM

But we use the following format in Russia -
DD/MM/YY HH:MM:SS without AM/PM

I tried to find how to change the date/time format in the documentation, but
this doesn't describe how to set it -

ARDATE
The date format used by the program.
UNIX only-This value consists of a string of operators as defined by the
strftime library call (some combinations appear successfully, but cannot be
translated for input). If you do not set this variable, the system uses the date
format for the language specified by the LANG environment variable.

What does it mean - as defined by the strftime library call?

Could you give an example?
Thank you.

You have to send EVENT from child form and handle it in parent.

Take a look at PERFORM-ACTION-SEND-EVENT RunProcess command.

I did it using push fields action and got this refresh issue.

You have to refresh a table field on parent form, or refresh datafields in

If regular form, how do you set new data to parent form from chind form - with
OnClose option of Open Window action or with PushFields action?

You have to know, that OnOpen and OnClose options are NOT logged. But I have an
idea why your OnClose is not working - you have to do CommitChanges action
before CloseWindow action in child form.

Database was succesfully migrated to Unicode. NLS_LANG problem

2007-02-28 Thread Bezhenar, Dmitry
Hello Everybody,

Recently I have successfully migrated Remedy database to Unicode.

SQL select * from nls_database_parameters where parameter like '%CHARACTERSET';

NLS_CHARACTERSET
AL32UTF8

NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET
AL16UTF16

However, if I try to run arsystem with $NLS_LANG = American_America.AL32UTF8
the ars server does not start.

It starts only if I use singlebyte charset for NLS_LANG variable - WE8ISO8859P1
or CL8MSWIN1251.
The problem is that this NLS_LANG value allows only WE8ISO8859P1 or
CL8MSWIN1251 characters (depending on the NLS_LANG value) to work properly.

Did I miss something?

Thank you.

Now I'm trying to create a view form directly on the MS SQL table ([EMAIL

After clicking on the LOAD button it shows me the list of fields and I choose
the unique identifier.
When I click the CREATE button it shows me the following error -

Failure during SQL operation to the database : ORA-00904: ROLEID: invalid
identifier (ARERR 552).

After switching on the sql logging I found an SQL statement, which fires this
error -

CREATE VIEW T3294 (C1) AS SELECT RoleID FROM [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailto:[EMAIL
PROTECTED]

I tried to input the same statement using SQL'plus - it really fires Oracle
error -
ORA-00904: ROLEID: invalid identifier

At the same time if I type RoleID in quotes it works -
SELECT RoleID FROM [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Anybody knows a workaround for this.

Thank you.

PS: I need this view form in order to be able to modify data in MS SQL tables.

Newbie workflow question

2007-01-17 Thread Bezhenar, Dmitry
Hello List,

Sorry for a newbie question.

I have several escalations which take data from different vendor and view forms
and put them into different regular forms.
I would like to link these Push fields actions to a button click.
I tried to transform all escalations into ALs and then link them together using
AL guide. Unfortunately it does not work.
When I click a button (with a Call guide action) it pushes only one record.

How should I construct my workflow to have import on a button click?

Thank you.

Kind regards / ? ?

Re: Newbie workflow question

2007-01-17 Thread Bezhenar, Dmitry
Thanks for your explanation Carey.

One thing I don't understand is executing an action on every row in a table
(i.e. view/vendor form).
For example, escalation can set field to a specified value in every row in the
table.
Since I want to do it using a button-click I cannot use escalations here.

Filter does another thing - it is triggered on submitting/modifiing/etc.. But I
cannot run it on every row. The row has to be already modified by something
else to trigger a filter.

Dmitry,

No problem. ( You said you are new so here is a bit of my ARS design
thoughts. Sorry it is so long. :) )

In general Escalations are a lot like a Push action with the Modify
all matching condition. Which can be done from an Active Link or a
Filter. Except that the Escalation is triggered by time passing and
Active Links and Filters are triggered by a single user action or
data transaction.

The the point is that:

Escalations and Active Links can trigger a Filter.
However Escalations and Filters can NOT trigger an Active Link.
Nor can a Filter or an Active Link trigger an Escalation.

So if your design is to implement it once and trigger from various
triggers then you put the workflow in Filters and you can then call it
from Active Links, Filters, or Escalations.

:)

I know it might seem complicated at first, but it really is very
simple at the end of the day.

If you know any programming language, then ARS is likely strange.
Well until you learn these objects and how they interact.

If you do not know any programming language, then ARS is likely very
different but also approachable for very simple application tasks. (
The more programming experience you have the more design patterns you
can identify in ARS. The more design patterns you actually use then
the more compact and scalable your ARS applications will be. However
that is more a speed/return on investment measurement. You can be very
functional in ARS with very little programming experience too. However
you will likely spend a lot of time repeating what you did somewhere
else in the application, over and over again.)

Good luck.

** Dmitry,

As I understand it, you want to do a push from each and every row in a form and
have that triggered by workflow on a button. There are a few different ways
that you can do this, but Carey's suggestion is probably the simplest.

Try this. (I will assume that you want to do a push from every row in FormA
or some subset of the fields.)

1. Add a display only field on FormA. Make sure that who ever will be pushing
the button has write access it it.
2. Add a filter that fires on modify when the display only field equals some
fixed value, say DOITNOW.
3. Add a button on what ever form you want that has an active link with a push
action that pushes the value DOITNOW into the dsiplay only field you added to
FORMA. Make sure that the qualification includes every row in FormA, or every
row that you are interested in pushing from.

You need both the filter on the form and the push action to every row on the
button.
The filter performs the action you want and the active link selects the rows
that you want to act on.

How to force midtier to convert Charset?

2006-12-19 Thread Bezhenar, Dmitry
Hi List,

As an alternative to Unicode we use different character sets for different
clients.

For example, the character set of a server is Western European (WE8ISO8859P15).
If you connect to this server from a Remedy client with another One-byte
character set (for example, a cyrillic one) you could work with cyrillic data.
Though if you take a look at the contents of the DB through Oracle Content
Viewer there would be garbage.

The problem appears when you try to work with that data using Mid-Tier. It
shows the same garbage as Oracle Content Viewer does.

Is there a way to force Mid-Tier to convert charset before displaying?

Thank you.

** Michelle,

Unfortunately there is no true csv format. There are several variants, some
supporting returns. Some use quoted values, some do not. From a technical point
of view it is very hard to support just csv. The import tool should be
detecting the csv variant, but obviously it is only sticking to one format,
which they even fixed.

What you could do is process the exported csv in such a way that the import
tool will import those correctly (for example replacing the return characters).
Or use a more reliable format such as xml for the export and import.

Btw, Excel tends to change long colums to # in my csv export, and it's also
using ; (the list separator) in my csv files. For csv I've ditched Excel and
I'm using OpenOffice. OpenOffice allows me to control how my csv is exported
and it is working great.

[for almost 15] years.

I have an issue that I have been fighting since May 1, 2006. The
original issue is fixed however engineering has introduced another. I
mean a HUGE one that they consider to be a fix. I wholeheartedly
disagree.

TEST A: (Export data from external application. Import into a test
Remedy form with these steps)
Export about 25 records from an application with large text fields that
might contain returns or commas.
For sanity sake, open it in Excel. Verify that you see 25 rows of data.
(You will. Excel comprehends true CSV.)
Close file without saving.
Open ANY other version of the import tool BESIDES Import Tool 6.3 P19.
Map fields accordingly to your Remedy form.
Import.
Expected Results:
Check test form. You should see the 25 records imported.

TEST B: (Follow the same steps as listed above, with one exception.
Use
the 6.3 Patch 19 import tool.
Undesired Results:
Your 25 records might turn into 35, 40, 50, etc.
For the extra records that are created, data will be thrown into
incorrect fields. The first 25 rows that are listed will not contain
all of the data.

TEST B according to Remedy Engineering is a FIX and is working as
designed. I call it an UNUSABLE data disaster.
That was the bad news. The worse news is that this will be the fix
for all subsequent patches.

If Remedy Engineering really meant what they said, Remedy was never
meant to import data from other sources. Then how would new customers
ever expect to migrate their data into a Remedy form. Since, I thought
the statement was the most ludicrous thing I'd ever heard, I asked for
it to be repeated...and it was.

Since this has been going on for so long (it started with the fallback
mapping issue). I honestly would welcome someone from BMC Remedy to
tell me that there has been a huge miscommunication.

Because if Patch 19 is the fix for something that has been working
properly since the first time I imported data, then the import tool has
now been rendered useless. We will now have to tell potential
customers, I'm sorry there is no way for us to migrate your existing
data.

Stepping down from my soapbox,
Michelle

Dmitry,

You could try creating a local view object in the ARS DB. Have the
view do all of the fancy DB LINK stuff. This way ARS only sees a
simple table and does not have to do anything special to select/update
the linked table.

After converting charset in Oracle (WE8ISO8859P15 - AL32UTF8) ARS service can not start

2006-11-24 Thread Bezhenar, Dmitry
Hello List,

another Oracle question.
I am now in process of converting the charset in our Oracle database from
WE8ISO8859P15 to AL32UTF8.
The procedure is mostly similar to the following description -

Character Set Scanner utility

though the change from US7ACII to UTF8 could be done with only using the 'alter
database command' we will use the character set scanner utility CSSCAN to scan
for any change required.

Installing the CSSCAN schema.

Before using the cssan you must install the schema as a user with DBA
privileges. This is done by executing the csminst.sql script located at
$ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin

cd $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin
$sqlplus / as sysdba

SQL*Plus: Release 9.2.0.6.0 - Production on Tue Oct 17 16:00:16 2006

Connected to:
Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.6.0 - Production
With the Partitioning, OLAP and Oracle Data Mining options
JServer Release 9.2.0.6.0 - Production
SQL START csminst.sql

Executing CSSCAN

The CSSCAN executable is located at the $ORACLE_HOME/bin. After executing the
script you must connect to the Database as a user with DBA privileges. The
CSSCAN utility prompts you with options to scan a table, schema or the enter
database. We choose to scan the entire database in our case.

The CSSCAN displays your current character set version and prompts you to enter
the new character set version.

$ csscan
Character Set Scanner v1.1 : Release 9.2.0.1.0 - Production on Tue Oct

With the Partitioning, OLAP and Oracle Data Mining options
JServer Release 9.2.0.6.0 - Production

(1) Full database, (2) User, (3) Table: 1 1
Enter new database character set name: UTF8
Enter number of scan processes to utilize (1..32): 1

After the successful completion of the scan three report files will be created
scan.txt, scan.out and scan.err.

In my case I have exported the database objects with exceptions as specified in
the scan.out and plan to import it back after the database conversion is done.

Changing the Character Set at Database Level

Shutdown all application services and the database and listener. You must do a
clean shutdown of your database and start it up in restricted mode before
changing the character set. Also you must not have any active sessions before
issuing the alter database command.

SQL alter database character set internal_use UTF8;
alter database character set internal_use UTF8

Import Back Database Objects.

After a successful character set conversion at the database level now you can
import back the objects and rebuild the indexes specified the in scan.out
report.

I've searched for all the objects that are not convertible using this csscan
utility, modified these objects (mostly it was exceed column size error and I
just enlarged column sizes). Then I switched the charset (alter database
character set internal_use UTF8). The database seemed to work fine. So I
started the ARS service. But the service did not start.

There are two possible explanations -

1. The procedure described above is not right. It is not possible to upgrade
the database to Unicode this way. If so, what is a right procedure?

2. I need to change something in ARS configuration files also. ARS can not
connect to a database with another char set so easily. If so, what should I
correct in ARS?

Thank you for your assistance.

I tried to find the procedure of switching/upgrading to Unicode within ARS
manuals with no success.

Environment:

Oracle 9.2 + ARS 6.3 on a Win2003 platform. This is our test/development
server. I will have to switch our productive one (ARS 6.3 + Oracle 9.2 +
Solaris 9) later on also.

Hello List,

another Oracle question.
I am now in process of converting the charset in our Oracle database
from WE8ISO8859P15 to AL32UTF8.
The procedure is mostly similar to the following description -

Character Set Scanner utility

though the change from US7ACII to UTF8 could be done with only using
the 'alter database command' we will use the character set scanner utility
CSSCAN to scan for any change required.

Installing the CSSCAN schema.

Before using the cssan you must install the schema as a user with DBA
privileges. This is done by executing the csminst.sql script located at
$ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin

cd $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin
$sqlplus / as sysdba

SQL START csminst.sql

Executing CSSCAN

The CSSCAN executable is located at the $ORACLE_HOME/bin. After
executing the script you must connect to the Database as a user with DBA
privileges. The CSSCAN utility prompts you with options to scan a table, schema
or the enter database. We choose to scan the entire database in our case.

The CSSCAN displays your current character set version and prompts you
to enter the new character set version.

(1) Full database, (2) User, (3) Table: 1 1
Enter new database character set name: UTF8
Enter number of scan processes to utilize (1..32): 1

After the successful completion of the scan three report files will be
created scan.txt, scan.out and scan.err.

In my case I have exported the database objects with exceptions as
specified in the scan.out and plan to import it back after the database
conversion is done.

Changing the Character Set at Database Level

Shutdown all application services and the database and listener. You
must do a clean shutdown of your database and start it up in restricted mode
before changing the character set. Also you must not have any active sessions
before issuing the alter database command.

SQL alter database character set internal_use UTF8;
alter database character set internal_use UTF8

Import Back Database Objects.

After a successful character set conversion at the database level now
you can import back the objects and rebuild the indexes specified the in
scan.out report.

I've searched for all the objects that are not convertible using this
csscan utility, modified

There are a couple of options:

1.) Purchase Croom Consultings ARDBC adapter for SQL Server, this is an ARS
Application level connection. This requires that ARS run on Windows.
2.) Use the MSSQL ODBC Driver with Oracle Heterogeneous Services / Oracle
generic connectivity. This requires that Oracle be on Windows.
3.) If Oracle is on Linux/UNIX, you can purchase the DataDirect SQL Server ODBC
driver and use it with Oracle Heterogeneous Services / Oracle generic

Dmitry,

I think what you need here is to set the Mid-Tier Admin Password in the Admin
Tool first. Then use that password in the Midtier config tool and you should
be able to connect through.

When you install a 7.0.x ARS server the installation process requires you to
enter passwords for both the Application Service and Mid-Tier, which I think is
a new requirement.

Hope this helps.

Hi Dmitry,

What do you mean by frozen? Do you mean disabled? In that case, I would
check ARAdmin-Form-CurrentView-Properties-MenuAccess-Delete.

A filter stopping the operation should give you an Error Message.

The text after the IMP-00041 is necessary to debug the issue of
improperly compiled objects.

Chances are these are the db views for some join forms that were not
properly compiled properly before the export (common for join forms)
on the last db; or db views for view forms that reference a db link.

For the ORA-12154, chances are you have a view form that uses a db
link that does not exist on the oracle instance to which you are
importing the dump. If this is the case, correct this by creating the
db links before running the import.

Dmitry: There is an option to overwrite existing tables when you do an
import. You have to use that option or you will get this error.
Migrator is always a good option to
doing a complete database import or restoral. The fact that you are on Windows2K3 and
the other system is Solaris should not cause this error. Remedy uses
different builds of the same program between Solaris and Windows2K3.

Thank you, James.

Does it matterthat my colleague usedOracle
under Solaris, and I am under win2003? Maybe using Migrator would be a better
alternative in this case?

While trying to startup ARS after import I am getting the
following error in the arerror.log -

390600 : The form definition file field count does not
match number of fields in the file (ARERR 403)

What is wrong?

Thanks for your patience.

Dmitry: Install the EXACT same version of ARS onto a new Oracle database.
Then run the import process to bring in the .dmp file.
This should work without a problem. James Mckenzie

I went through the installation instructions, but was unsure what other

websites which host the additional softwares reqd. , I was overwhelmed by the
amount of links there were for a single product. I just need:

I am assuming that i'll be setting up a mid-tier for:
  1) ARS 7.0
  2) Windows platform
  3) I don't have IIS (Is it licensed or free?)
IIS is free and included as part of
the operating system. If you're running on Windows XP, I believe it is
called "Personal Web Sharing". On Windows Server 2003, it may be an
optional install. As is the case with Apache, unless you need IIS for
something other than Mid-Tier, I would not bother installing it at all.
Anything related to Mid-Tier is going to be handed off to ServletExec or Tomcat
(depending on which you install) and that is where the real "work"
happens. In this specific scenario, introducing IIS just adds another
unnecessary layer.

The only advantage I may see with using IIS on Windows is perhaps for ARS
Mid-Tier sites which are very busy. Since IIS is integrated into the
operating system, I would like to assume that it has been very finely tuned to
effectively manage a high number of socket connections. In performance
intensive situations, people tend to use either the Apache Portable Runtime with
Tomcat or the Grizzly connector to manage socket-based communications.

If you decide to use Tomcat with IIS, you're going to need to install the
ISAPI filter for Tomcat.

  4) Should i DL tomcat or apache or both? And from what exact link should
i DL for windows 32 bit version?
Unless you need Apache for other features, I would just install
Tomcat. Much of my reasoning behind this can be found in the earlier
discussion for using IIS. Since Tomcat is 100% pure Java, there is no
32/64-bit choice. Just download Tomcat 5.5.17 and install it.

  5) Apart from tomcat or apache or both, what other S/w is
needed?
You will need to have the Java Development Kit installed. I would
install Sun's Java Standard Edition 5.0 Release 7 Development Kit (a.k.a., J2SE
1.5 release 7). There are other options from other vendors, but this is
the one I generally use. I'd be curious to know how many on the list are
using JRockit or the IBM JVM. It's been a while since I've looked at
benchmarks.

  6) In what order should i install these products?
JDK
IIS or Apache (optional)
Tomcat
Mid-Tier

If you are going to use Tomcat alone, then
when prompted to choose a web server, select the "Other" option. Do the
same for the question about the Servlet Engine. I don't normally do this
in LINUX/UNIX (I use symbolic links instead), but when you install Mid-Tier,
install it to the Tomcat_Installation/webapps/arsys folder. For
example, if you install Tomcat to C:\Program Files\Apache Tomcat, then
install Mid-Tier to C:\Program Files\Apache
Tomcat\webapps\arsys.

Good luck with your install!

What do you mean by just had to write the second, third,... n th, ARDBC

What is the difference between writing an ARDBC and writing an AREA Plugin?

Thank you.

Rick,

v5 could do that. You just had to write the second, third,... n th,
ARDBC yourself. Or, if we are talking about AREA LDAP connections,
then you had to write your own AREA plugin.

Matt, I think the question was whether more than one CONCURRENT
connection was supported. V7 is the first version that does that, from
what I have seen and heard.

Remedy and MS SQL

2006-05-11 Thread Bezhenar, Dmitry

Hello list,

We are using self-written ServiceDesk software, which
stores our asset data in MS SQL database.

Is it possible to create an engine which would parse
the asset database on a regular basis and update asset data in the Remedy ITSM
OOTB?

I’ve seen something
similar in the CMDB Configuration Guide (Reconciliation Engine?..), but I could
not understand how to set it to work with MS SQL tables.

Thank you for assistance.

Kind regards

Do you have any information on ITSM 7 and CMDB 2 release date?

Is it soon ;) or not very soon (in 60-90 days)?

Kind regards

I don't know why they don't just say ARS 7.0 will be released on X
date. I was told a date today, and though I can't (for some reason)
say what it is, I will say it's very soon. And ITSM 7/CMDB 2.0 will
follow sometime after that.

Maybe they should just say, like Duke Nuke'm Forever, that it will be
ready When it's ready.

It looks like we may see the release of 7.0 soon.

Yes, The name of the form is

I thought there should be a method similar to "push

Maybe "pop fields"? ;-)

I got into using direct SQL a little while back (for everything possible,
it seemed), and used that method - DELETE FROM formname WHERE
criteria

Of course, you've got to be darned careful on the criteria. I'm
nowhere near our servers at the moment, but I think the form would be
SHR_Person?

Dear Dmitry,
It
depends on how many entries you have on the form.If its just a simple deletion
of entries you can use the user tool and delete the entries (CTRL + D). If you
want to build workflow to delete the entries you have to write an AL guide and
get the list of entry ids on the form. Use the Run Process commands to delete
the entries after looping through the records. Read theguides you will
know exactly what i am talking about. Let me know if you require more
clarification.
