All,

I am working with CHG:Infrastructure Change with several custom Tabs added to
the

"z2PH ChangeInfo" Page Holder.

Everything in the Page Holder disappeared suddenly on both the web\MidTier
client and Thick Client. This was not just the custom fields. The OOTB Tabs and
fields disappeared as well.

The contents can still be seen in Developers Studio.

I'm at a loss for how this could have happened.

Any ideas?

That's exactly what happened. There's over 100 words on the ignore list for

I'm just going to educate the customer and not update the ignore list.

We are using ARS 8.1 SP2, have an Oracle Database and turned on FTS. I also
enabled FTS on the First and Last Name character fields on the CTM:People form.
Before we enabled FTS and added the FTS property to these two fields, I was
able to do a search on First Name = "Ar" and get back many records that have
the characters ar in the first name INCLUDING the one record that I really need
returned that the first name IS only "Ar".
But when I added the FTS property to the First Name field, I get back all
records with ar in the first name EXCEPT the first name that's actually Ar.
Is there something with FTS that does not allow character fields with less than
three characters get indexed or something? Why does this not return the record
that I actually need?
I've tested this with many other First Names that were less than three
characters: Go, No, Ar, but I was able to create a person with a first name of
Le and it found this person when doing a search.
Maybe Go, No and Ar are reserved words???
Anyone else experience this?

Hi everyone.

Does anyone out there know of good reasons NOT to overlay
AST:BaseElement?

The short story is that I need to see 'LastScanDate' from
BMC.CORE:BMC_BaseElement, along side my asset data.

AST:BaseElement seems like the natural place to do this, since it joins
AST:Attributes and BMC.CORE:BMC_BaseElement. All I should need to do is create
an overlay and bring in 'LastScanDate' from BMC.CORE:BMC_BaseElement ... super
easy.

And in fact, I have done this on my dev box, and it SEEMS ok, but then
I got to thinking about it ...

In the past, I made the horrendous mistake of overlaying
BMC.CORE:BMC_BaseElement, and THAT truely hosed my system on upgrade (even
though I deleted the overlay prior to upgrading). I'd hate to stumble into that
sort of minefield again.

A quick search on communities didn't seem to turn up a whole lot, so I
thought I'd ask here.

Anyone have experience overlaying AST:BaseElement? Did it work out for
you? Cause nightmares?

Thanks eveyone

Hi Lisa,
There is a "default" SRD that is used for the creation of the Service Request
when an Incident is generated from Incident Management (and you have configured
the Incident Rules to generate the Service Request).
This is the SRD that is in "Draft" status and named "Service Desk Incident".

On this request you can set a Survey which will be generated for every Incident
created from IM directly.

Kind Regards,

Do you create a service request automatically when creating an incident or does
the incident originate from SRM? If you have incident surveys turned on as well
as a survey on the SRD, that may be why you get 2 surveys.
Or... Are any other emails being duplicated?

Allow Administrators to Update Their Own Record's Support Staff Field

For some reason (and I haven't found out why), if I want to update my people

it's set up this way for some reason. Creating an idea to get this changed, so

Hello,

there is one point I'd like to share:

Running BMC ARS 9 on Windows 2008, JAVA 7, I've investigated that the
arserver.exe does not allocate the huge amount of memory any more.
Instead there is a java.exe that allocates approx. 2GB RAM now. Is this a step
on the road to "pure Java ARS"?

If you have a monitoring on memory consumption of arserver.exe you now need an
additional rule that monitors the memory consumption of this java.exe.

Additionally if you want to separate your installation into different tomcats
you can have at least 4:
- Midtier default on http port 8080
- SmartReporting e.g. http port 8081
- Atrium CMDB WS (AXIS) e.g. http port 8082
- MyIT and SmartIT e.g. http port 8083

Remedy ITSM 9.0 release is certainly a bit more platform centric, if we

modernization is a huge investment into the future of Remedy.

But there are a number of enhancements that are very relevant for the
Service Desk for customers that use the mid-tier based UI. For example:

· Smart Reporting – the amazing new in-app reporting and
dashboard technology that of course applies also to incident management (incl.
many ootb reports).

· New application-level archiving allows customers to implement
continuous archiving based on business policy, thus reducing e.g. the number of
active incidents in the system. This will improve performance, search results,
etc. – aside from being more compliant with data retention policies.

· FTS enhancements have significantly improved search
performance, incl. when searching incidents and knowledge (more than 10 times
in some cases). New FTS architecture also improves high-availability.

· RESTful API for Remedy that allows to more easily access the
incident management data.

So, those enhancements were not necessarily in the core Incident
Management form/process, but very relevant to Service Desk personas and to the
way how they work. And all of this available to Remedy ITSM users without any
additional license fees.

What enhancements you’d like to see for the incident management
form/process? The Modern Service Desk is certainly something that BMC cares
about very much, and I
Of course you can also post any suggestions for enhancements as Ideas

Re: Delta Data Migration Tool vs RRRChive

2015-05-20 Thread Kemes, Lisa A DLA CTR INFORMATION OPERATIONS
Just another thing about Delta Migrator that's bugging me. We've had some
problems with it and produced a document to BMC about some of the issues (look
to the Communities page where I'll be posting some "Tips and Tricks" that are
not documented in the official BMC Docs about Delta Migrator).

So one of the things that they came back with is they are saying that we need
to run Delta Migrator BEFORE we make any customizations to our Destination
server (like overlays). Well, what if you added 40 new fields to various forms
in the source environment? If we don't overlay those forms and add those
fields, they would not come over in the Delta Migrator tool.

I sort of understand what they are saying that things might not map correctly,
but then how do we get those fields migrated over? Things that I'm still
working on with BMC.

Have others that have experience with Delta Migrator tool move their
customizations over first and THEN migrate data like us?

Thanks!

Hi,

RRR|Chive does not know anything about differences in application versions.

It moved data readily between AR System Servers of different versions.

What exactly do you mean by "attributes"?

If fields from one form has been split up into different forms, or vice versa,
it might be difficult to do an efficient migration of that data using
RRR|Chive.

If you have added/removed a field or two, or change the field id, you can
define field-mappings, and skip-fields-lists, or just ask it to work on COMMON
fields.

You can easily build logic to enrich/split data in the source/target
environment with filters:
source-server-filter: Execute On = Get Entry, Run If: ($CLIENT-TYPE$ = )
target-server-filter: Execute On = Merge Entry, Run If: ($CLIENT-TYPE$ = )

Re: Delta Data Migration Tool vs RRRChive

2015-05-20 Thread Kemes, Lisa A DLA CTR INFORMATION OPERATIONS
Thanks Misi!

We've had some problems with Delta Migrator going from 7.6.04 SP5 to 8.1 SP2
and one of the problems was that it took all records in the Base Element form
and created records on the AST:Attribute form (which is new on 8.1 SP2). The
problem is that if you have more than one data set, it doesn't care, it just
creates a record for each record off your base element form. So if you have a
record in the Sandbox, BMC.ASSET and ADDM for example, 3 records would be
created on the AST:Attribute form, not one.

It's a pain to clean it up afterwards. So I was just wondering if RRR|Chive
did anything thing differently. But now I'm understanding that it's a one to
one migrator tool (which Delta Migrator is as well, they just have some extra
instructions when going from one version to another at some points).

I personally like RRR|Chive better when I worked with it before, very easy to
understand and use (I haven't used it in a while and didn't know if there were
any changes to it since the last time I used it), but it wasn't up to me on
what tool to use this time. :(

Also, I'm working on a DoD contract and I have a hard time convincing them on
using software that is created from an outside the US company, which is a real
bummer because I would LOVE to use RRR|Chive for the delete feature (where it
can delete records that has been deleted in the source) which is sorely lacking
in Delta Migrator.

Hi,

The API version is not really an issue. There are no new data types in 8.1.2,
so there is no issue.

These are some differences:
1. RRR|Chive does not need a starting date, it will compare the modify date on
all records very efficiently, and move the delta only 2. RRR|Chive only uses
the Request ID as key 3. RRR|Chive can delete records that has been deleted in

This also happens if you created a CI through the ADDM tool and it merged into
the BMC.ASSET dataset. If the customer were then to make updates to the CI in
Asset Management Console, the system has to create a CI in the Sandbox dataset
first. Since there was no Sandbox to begin with the
ASI:SHR:All_PushToAssetAttribute is skipped and the updates are lost.

Hello fellow Developers!

We are on 8.1 SP2. Is anyone else on 8.1SP2 Asset management with Sandbox
turned off? Do you experience the same problems?

We had to turn off our sandbox for a while because of some problems and that
let to CI's being added to BMC.ASSET directly (with no BMC.Asset.Sandbox
records).

We have since turned sandbox back on.

Since then when we try to update a CI's Status Reason, Asset ID (anything
that's on the AST:Attributes form), the system needs to create a sandbox record
(no problem) but then it does not update the AST:Attribute form with the new
data (like status reason, or AssetID). It DOES create a new Sandbox record
and if we try to change it a 2nd time it comes through.

I think it has to do with this filter: ASI:SHR:All_PushToAssetAttribute. It
fails if it sees another AST:Attribute record with the same Recon ID. The
Qualification is: ($SCHEMA$ != $NULL$) AND ('zTmp Related Rec IDs' = $NULL$).

Thanks Aditya,

We also found this: KA417949. It's related to problems with Reconciliation
after DDM runs.

It would have been nice if they reference these problems in their main
documentation. Then we wouldn't have had to spend hours wondering why
Reconciliation doesn't work, moving CI's out of In Inventory doesn't work and
why we couldn't relate a WO to an Incident.

BMC comes back with "Well it works for us." Which is getting very frustrating.

Look for a "Tips and Tricks" document on the communities from me about all the
problems we have run into with DDM. I'll post the link here when it's
completed.

3 weeks after our initial DDM run we are STILL finding problems.

Hi Guys,

Even we had same experience post DDM run.
Fortunately thsi has been loddeg as defect and there is a workaround and steps
to fix these issues caused via DDM run as well as UDM.
There is a blog which explains about the new architecture of Asset forms
AST:Attributes and related information.
Please check the following:

We ran into this while using DDM, but before we went live with our
upgrade. The issue is that the DDM scripts are using instance ID to migrate
the data and never finds a match so it creates a duplicate record. If you were
to modify the DDM script to use Recon ID instead, I believe that will help you
going forward. There is still a slight risk that DDM migrates the record from
the other data set, because there is no logic that says to only migrate the
BMC.Asset record to AST:Atriubtes, however in most cases your BMC.Asset entry
is likely to be the one with the latest update so that will likely be the one
to be sent across last.

As far as fixing the duplicates, I tried to go through my old emails to
see what exactly we did and I couldn't find anything. Trying to remember from
my memory, I believe I wrote a script to find which entry in the AST:Attributes
table matched the record in the BMC.Asset and then deleted the others.

***
We were having technical issues with the CMDB so we did not use the Class
Manager. In Best Practice mode, we added character fields to the BaseElement
temporarily, and now we are getting errors that the field are referencing
"Computer System."

**

I'm 99% sure that you are not 'allowed' to overlay CMDB forms...it breaks
things...fyibut, when you say you aren't able...are you in best practice
mode?...what sort of error do you get?

Are you getting any errors? What version are you on? And did you create these
custom fields via the Class Manager?

**

>From what I recall...

View overlays are the only acceptable overlay on CMDB forms. That will not
affect the data model and/or workflow; it is done if you need to pretty up the
UI of a CMDB form (add trim/buttons, adjust field layout). If you make
structural changes to CMDB forms in Best Practice mode (in an overlay) it will
not only throw the metadata out of whack but the CMDB plugins/clients will not
see the changes. The CMDB plugins/clients (RE, NE, etc.) only look at Base mode
because all CMDB changes should be done via the class manager which results in
changes in Base (loosely they are managed by BMC code even though a customer
made the change).

Beyond that there are a few circumstances that the class manager cannot
currently handle and need to be done via Dev Studio. This is a rare case where
non-BMC people are advised to make the change in Base mode (regarding the
delete overlay verbiage discussed over the last week, this is a valid reason to
work in Base mode). I recommend if you think you have a CMDB situation where
you need to make a change in Base mode consult with BMC first to confirm.

Adding the VIP to the Incident Management Console

2015-05-01 Thread Kemes, Lisa A DLA CTR INFORMATION OPERATIONS
I'm trying to add the VIP field to the Incident Management Console.

This is very easy with other fields that I wanted to add to this table (the
z2TH Incidents table). Essentially, if it's on the HPD:CFG_IncidentWatchList
form, you should be able to add it to the Incident management Console.

The VIP field is on the HPD:CFG_IncidentWatchList and the HPD:IncidentInterface
form, but when I try to add it to the z2TH Incidents table on the HPD:Incident
Management Console form, I'm not able to find it. Again, I can see it on the
HPD:CFG_IncidentWatchList and the HPD:IncidentInterface form. I was able to
add the Submit Date to this table, but not VIP?

Has anyone run into this before? We are on 8.1 SP2 ITSM.

When I take a look at the CI in Asset Management (on the

Sometime it really do paranormal activity like forms overlay from backend
doesn't get deleted and makes the form corrupted then really it's such a pain
to delete the overlay references from database to restore the base form. Even
backup doesn't works in that case.

Update: I did talk to product development team in this regards,
developers mentioned that , whatever we do within Best Practice Customization
Mode is all overlay, so whatever the options you see, add/delete/create etc .
they are only applicable to the overlay objects.. if the object/s is/are
non-overlay then you won’t see delete option unless you are in Base mode. This
being the reason there is no need to label the options explicitly for overlay
as a person who is dealing with developer studio know what he/she is doing and
what is the significance of each mode.

8.1 Wiping out Relationships when a CI is Moved to In Inventory

2015-03-06 Thread Kemes, Lisa A DLA CTR INFORMATION OPERATIONS
I'm surprised that nobody else is feeling any struggles to the new 8.1 OOB
workflow that deletes all People relationships when a CI is moved to In
Inventory. Surely (don't call me Shirley!) the CI is still supported by or
owned by a Support Group or Organization and this usually doesn't go away if In
Inventory does it? Our customer is requesting that these relationships do not
get touched when a CI is moved to In Inventory.

Do most people just not use In Inventory? It's really horrible and has caused
lots of problems for us. We have fixed many bugs for BMC on our own in
relation to this.

My previous Post:
Does anyone else struggle with this in 8.1? Why would all relationships get
wiped out when a CI is moved to In Inventory?

Maybe it should be a view in the db? Seems that it would be an easier way to
set it up. Of course that all depends on your db comfort level.

Without getting the field and form names it would simply be:

select c.ci, u.used_by, m.managed_by, o.owned_by from ci_form c, used_by_form
u, managed_by_form m, owned_by_form o where c.key = u.key and c.key = u.key and
c.key = m.key

Hope that helps.

Windows admins have our systems extremely locked down and they have McAfee
sniffing around new installs and so even though we changed the temp variable

Hi Lisa,

Another possible issue you might be encountering here is a full disk volume on
a mounted folder. (See
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa365733(v=vs.85).aspx)

If the folder you are installing to (or any of it's parents), or any other
folder the installer is writing files to, is a mounted folder and the
underlying volume/disk is full, you might encounter an issue that seems as if
you have space left on the drive but you get errors regarding running out of
disk space.

HTH.

Theo

Personally I would do the install like this ...

Shift Right-Click on the Disk1 folder you extracted to the D drive and
choose "Open command Window here"
In the command prompt do:
SET TEMP=D:\TEMP
SET TMP=D:\TEMP
setup.cmd

This will set the environment to the temp folder you want the install
to use and will also run the install as admin.

Just to confirm, did you extract the install files before running the

I have seen this when you open the downloaded zipped file directly by

Try this,
Right click downloaded zip file and extract using winzip or any other

Hi,

Client Side logging stores stuff on the client.

In the case of ARUser.exe, it stores it in the specified file

In case of Mid-Tier it "stores" it in a separate browser window from which you
can copy/paste it the log parser of your choise.

You turn it on in your User Preferences as said earlier.

Server stuff such as API/FLTR/SQL are available in both ARUser.exe and Mid-Tier
on the condition that the user belongs to the Client Side Logging Group
specified in your Server Preferences.

There are some additional timing log lines in Mid-Tier that are not available
in ARUser.exe. On the other hand the output from Mid-Tier is not as readable
and easy to understand as the ACTL-log of ARUser.exe...

Hi Lisa,

If you are doing upgrade to 8.1 Sp2 then check whether you can copy
installer to -Djava.io.tmpdir .

Starting from 8.1 SP2 BMC Remedy Installers use default temp denoted by
=-Djava.io.tmpdir.

export _JAVA_OPTIONS=-Djava.io.tmpdir=

# Can you share below information :

1] Install Logs : for what path is installer throwing an error ? check for
severe keyword in TEMP\*Install.log file

2] Share the Zip All install logs collected using Maintenance Tool

3] Try to use Java Debugger and check the code in setup.jar of installer.

Which installer is throwing this ? AR or ITSM ?

Thanks,

Vivek@bmc

Hello,

I have had similar issues with BMC installations. In every such case the root

Hey Lisa,

I had a similar issue a few years ago and I cleared the issue by giving ARAdmin
local administrator rights. I don't know if this is still the case, but it may
be worth a try. Thank you.

I want to thank everyone for their help. I've tried all of your suggestions and
nothing it working (I did not try the quota thing though from the MSDN link -
that's the only thing I did not try).

What I'm going to do is try to upgrade from 7.6.4 SP4 to SP5 and see if I get
the same problem, if so, then it's definitely something on the server that's
not allowing me to read or install (even though I have admin rights on the
server and the folders).

Stay tuned!

Thanks!

Personally I would do the install like this ...

Shift Right-Click on the Disk1 folder you extracted to the D drive and choose
"Open command Window here"
In the command prompt do:
SET TEMP=D:\TEMP
SET TMP=D:\TEMP
setup.cmd

This will set the environment to the temp folder you want the install to use
and will also run the install as admin.

I did not run the installer from the zip file. I open up the zip file and take

Maybe I just need to uninstall 7.6.04 sp4 and just install a fresh 8.1 sp2.

Just to confirm, did you extract the install files before running the installer?

I have seen this when you open the downloaded zipped file directly by double
clicking and running the installer?

Try this,
Right click downloaded zip file and extract using winzip or any other third
party utility to a folder on your d drive. This will extract all files to the
directory specified. Run the installer from there

I did this and have plenty of space on my C drive (over 4GB) and on my D drive
(where I'm installing to - which is about 30GB of space). It's so weird. My
other server is pretty much identical to this one and it's upgrading just fine.
At the Install/Upgrade selection panel it says:

You have 0MB of space available on the current drive (which is my D drive).

Strange.

Where is it finding that I only have 0MB of free disk space?

On the server where you are installing, set the Folder View to "Show hidden

Open
C:\Users\YOUR PROFILE NAME\Application Data\Local\Temp> Clear the Temp folder.
Unzip the zipped install file again and run the install.

Re: Upgrading from 7.6.04 SP4 to 8.1 - Folder only has 0 MB of Free Disk Space

2014-12-23 Thread Kemes, Lisa A DLA CTR INFORMATION OPERATIONS
Hi Anish!

I did not run the installer from the zip file. I open up the zip file and take
the disk1 folder and move it under the D: drive and then double click on the
setup file.

What exactly did you do?

I get the 0 MB thing almost every time I have a new server with the TEMP
environment variable set to the USER directory on C:

So I go into the System Properties and reset the TEMP and TMP variables to
D:\temp (after creating D:\temp). Then log out and log back in and try the
installer again.

Thanks Sandra,

I did this and have plenty of space on my C drive (over 4GB) and on my

weird. My other server is pretty much identical to this one and it's upgrading

I got a chance to be a beta tester for future versions of SmartIT (one

The more I see of SmartIT, the more I am convinced that this is the

That makes sense to get historical difference, to export the def files and do a

same Log Key is used for two or more fields.) Though I can see for some fields,
Audit option set to 'Audit'.

Also. the form that I am trying to import into my Test server, has already been
imported once by me, but I need to import again, because I have made several
changes on Development server.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Ayushi

Check the audit settings on the field. They seem to have to be the same if you
are importing the same form from one server to another.

That's how it is in 7.6.04 SP2 and SP4 and SP5 anyway.

Hi List,

I am trying to import def file of a new form created by me, from development to
testing environment. I received the following error:

Field/VUI name must be unique for the form -- there is already a field or VUI
using this name; Impact,  392,

I have already checked in my form if there is any Field ID/Field Name
duplicated. (Though I think, if this was the case, I should not have been
allowed to create that field) . Can the reason be - Same View Name of my form,
that is already existing for some other form? If yes, is it possible to change
the View Name of a particular View of my form?

Any help is appreciated.

Ayushi

Make sure when you are flushing your local Browser cache (in IE) that the
"Preserve Favorites website data" is UNCHECKED and that Form Data is CHECKED.

Charlie,
Have you shut down Tomcat, deleted all of the contents of the 'cache' directory
for Mid-Tier, and restarted?...this is moderately different than a 'Flush
Cache' from the config console.

I'm at a loss and would appreciate any suggestions on how to fix this.

I have a field on a form that has no privileges configured on it, so no
one but full admins should see it. But for some reason an underprivileged user
account can see this field on the mid-tier running on the same machine, call it
machine QA. I have the same form on a server & mid-tier running on machine
DEV, and the field is appropriately invisible to the (effectively) same user
account.

If I point DEV's mid-tier at server QA, the field is appropriately
invisible.

If I point QA's mid-tier at server DEV, the field is appropriately
invisible.

I've tried the above on different browsers running on different
machines with the same results.

So, it seems that the problem manifests ONLY when QA's mid-tier is
pointing at QA's server.

I've (of course) tried flushing the cache on QA's mid-tier, bouncing
QA's Tomcat, and even bouncing machine QA itself, but the problem persists.
And during the these bounces, I've turned off QA's cache persistence but no joy.

The field (in this case) is a display field, so this is NOT an issue
about seeing or modifying data without appropriate privileges. So I have no
reason to suspect a problem with ARS itself not enforcing permission policies,
and in fact the evidence (outlined above) would seem to suggest something wrong
with QA's mid-tier. But it IS an issue (to me) that the field is visible.

I've simplified my description here a bit and the problem does extend
beyond what I've described here. But my guess is that if I can solve this
problem the other similar elements will resolve too. Still, if appears
relevant I can describe more details.

All of the servers and mid-tiers are running v8.1.01

Has anyone seen this before? Any suggestions on how to fix this? I
haven't gone as far as uninstalling/reinstalling the mid-tier or tomcat yet, do
anyone think this will help?

Thanks,
Charlie

that might have affected how the records were created, and what their settings

see if there is anything updating the row on get, or something similar...even
this should be the same between servers...but sometimes things can get out of

The customer is on ITSM 7.6.04 SP3. I know about SP5 & that SP3 is
nearly about 2 years old and there is a recommendation out there to step
up.

To the best of my knowledge, all of the data load forms for ITSM have a
naming convention of XXX:LoadYyy where XXX is a prefix of the
function you are loading the data for, and Y is the actual function
name. For e.g. COM:LoadCompany for company data.

Is this true for *ALL* the foundation data load forms?

If so I can't seem to find the one for Locations (containing columns
Company, Site, Region, Site Group, DataTags & Status). Is this load form
differently named? I'm wondering if they weren't consistent on these
names on SP3.

What would really help me is if someone has a compiled list of all the
Data load forms that are used to mass import ITSM 7.6.04 data, or point
me to where this may be documented by BMC Software.

Lisa,

You didn't mention the version of the mid-tier you are using, but I am
going to make a wild guess that it is 8.1 no service pack or earlier.

Why?

Because 8.1 sp1 and later should have completely resolved the issue that
you were seeing and the need to clear your local browser cache.

The steps you included about clearing your browser cache were necessary
before
8.1 sp1 of the mid tier.

We finally isolated what was causing the issue. It is a characteristic
of the browser caching model. If you try and open a page, it just
checks to see if it has that page already and if so, it uses it. Well,
if you have opened our page, you have it and the URL is the same so your
cached page is used, even if the page has changed. Because we have the
same URL, it doesn't pick up our change. It will eventually as there is
a setting in the cache for how long before it gets a new copy anyway
(this is typically set to 1 day, but it can be longer).

With 8.1 sp1, there is an additional check being made during the open of
the window to see if you have the same exact version of the dynamic page
(not just the URL is the same) and if not, the page gets reloaded
automatically.

So, your steps are right for 8.1 unpatched and earlier.

But, if you upgrade to 8.1 sp1 or later, you should find the entire need
to ever recache the mid-tier or to clear your local browser cache are
gone. (unless of course you have your mid-tier cache configured to
check for updates every hour say and you want some change to propagate
faster than the 1 hour interval, then forcing a recache of the mid-tier
could be used -- but you would not need to worry about the end user
browser cache even in this case.

NOTE: that midtier 8.1 has been fully tested and is compatible with
7.6.04 and later releases of the AR System server. It should be fine
with versions earlier than that as well, but it has not been fully
tested with earlier (unsupported) versions.

Just a reminder that the issue here has been resolved.

We've found that the browser cache has to be COMPLETELY cleared, and if
you don't UNCHECK Preserve Favorites Website Data, you won't completely
clear it, and the user may still have the problem. So Lisa, what you
report here is spot on with what we've found.

If you don't want to have to remember to UNCHECK Preserve Favorites
Website Data, the other thing you can do is from your IE Internet
Options General Tab, under Browsing History, click Settings, then View
Files. That will bring up your Temporary Internet Files folder. We
always have our users check that (or we remote in and check it for
them), and we tell them that for there to be a valid chance of ITSM
working after a break, that folder must be COMPLETELY empty. You can do
a Ctrl-A (for Select All) in that folder and then manually delete any
remaining files.

If your users are like ours, they may complain about this, but hold firm
and insist. We've found that a complete cache (sometimes in conjunction
with flushing the MT cache) clears our users' problems up way more often
than not.

deleted all items under the Temporary Internet Files folder and even
that didn't work.

Usually one or a combination of these things used to work, but I've
never had to UNCHECK Preserve Favorites Website Data. Or maybe it was
always unchecked before and our admins recently made it checked by
default.

I dunno, but I was starting to pull my hair out. Luckily I still have
some of it left. :)

If your users are like ours, they may complain about this, but hold firm
and insist. We've found that a complete cache (sometimes in conjunction
with flushing the MT cache) clears our users' problems up way more often
than not.

Sometimes this doesn't work and I still see the old data in my browser

he was able to see the changes.

I've NEVER had to do this before (uncheck the 'Preserve Favorites

Syncing the Cache on Midtier

Flushing the Cache on the Midtier

Deleting my User Tool cache files (yes, I was willing to try anything)

Re: Dev Studio

2014-06-23 Thread Kemes, Lisa A DLA CTR INFORMATION OPERATIONS
Thank you!

What I ended up doing is reinstalling Dev Studio under C:\Program
Files\BMC Software\ARSystem folder

It was originally under C:\Temp and was working just fine until last
Thursday. I'm starting to think that it may be a folder permission
thing or something (I don't know).

I didn't even have to "Reinstall" it, I just took the "DeveloperStudio"
folder under C:\temp and moved it under C:\Program Files\BMC
Software\ARSystem folder and it started working again.

My devstudio.ini file was pointing to the correct folder for Java.

Still a mystery, but I'm just glad it's working now.

It is not the version of JAVA if it is JAVA but rather 'where' it is
installed.

During in upgrade, JAVA updates and new installs, have their directories
named according to the version which often causes these kind of issues.

These can be easily corrected by updating the path in the devstudio.ini
file found in the install directory of the Dev Studio.

The contents of this file is typically something like

-vm
C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7\bin\javaw.exe -vmargs -Xms512m
-Xmx1024m

(I had changed by start and max size to give my JVM a little more boost.

Make sure that your JAVA path seen in this file is the same as that of
your machine. Also make sure you point it to the most appropriate JAVA
version 32 or 64 bit depending on whether you need or do not need to
build objects that use OLE. 64 bit JAVA will not allow you to use OLE
while 32 bit will. At the same time you do not have too much room to
allocate too much available memory on 32 bit JVM's. So choose your JAVA
instance carefully.

Re: Remedy Developer Performance Metrics

2014-06-04 Thread Kemes, Lisa A DLA CTR INFORMATION OPERATIONS
I had a similar experience. The customer requested a change to an out of the
box solution and another Remedy Developer thought they would "dazzle" the
customer with some extremely bloated, overly complicated solution. The
customer hated it, it was a nightmare to maintain (and understand) and took
about 2 months to develop. They eventually rejected it. About a week later I
came back with a very simple solution (1 extra form, and a couple of active
links) and it's been approved and will be moving over to production.

So the solution that the other developer was creative and did a lot more than
the customer requested, but does that make them a better developer if it
eventually is not what the customer wanted?

Hi,

I once got the assignment to add some functionality the ITSM notification

I could probably have hammered away right away, adding a bunch of field and
loads of FLTR/ACTL/ESCL to do this. Maintaining that solution would have been a
nightmare.

Instead I sat staring at the existing code for a week, and finally I added one
FIELD and one FLTR, and then changed one FIELD and one FLTR.

These were 4 very expensive workflow objects!

However I need to do some simple reporting.

I notice that in the Content Type of the Web Reports there is only List

like you can in the ARSystem Reports.

Am I missing something or will I need Crystal to do this.

Thanks Doug.

Unfortunately, I'm not able to run that SQL statement since I don't have
access to our database. I could get our DB guys to run it for me, but
I'm sure that will be way down on the bottom of their list.

Right now the difference is between Dev and Staging. We are loading
Production now and I'll see if it is the same as Dev or Staging
(hopefully, it's not different from either of those).

I'll keep that SQL statement handy for future use.

Subject: Re: Audited from RefCount property on a Form

**

Lisa,

I didn't know what this setting was so I did a little searching in the
knowledge base.

I found out that this setting on an Audit form is present for an Audit
form of type Log and it is the number of

other forms that have targeted this particular Log Audit form for
auditing. So, if it is set to 5, it should mean

that there are 5 forms out there that have auditing of style log turned
on and those forms have specified

this form as the form to log their audit records to.

So, this is what the setting is - a reference count of the number of
forms that are targeting this form with a

log style audit.

It seems to be used to determine that there are forms that are
referencing this form and if the count gets

down to 0, the system knows that no forms are targeting this form as an
Audit log form any more.

So, this is an internal, automatically set option used for internal
management of the auditing environment. It

is not a setting you should be controlling or worrying about.

So, why the difference

First, have you turned on auditing for another form targeting this form
so that now there are 4 forms auditing

to this audit log form instead of 3? That would be consistent with the
number being 4 on dev and 3 on staging.

Now, if you have not updated auditing on any form on dev to point to
this log form, the number should be

consistent between the environments.

If you want to pursue further to see what is connected, I found this
query in a KB article that allows you to

get the names of all forms that are connected to a given log form. It
is an SQL query you would issue to the

database.

> select name Form , enable Enabled from arschema s, schema_audit a
where a.form=(select schemaid from arschema where
name='TMS:AuditLogSystem') and a.schemaid=s.schemaid order by name

Change the name TMS:Audit... to the audit log form you are looking for
of course.

This should show you all the connected items.

If this shows you why things are different, terrific.

Other KB articles had a discussion about the number seeming off. There
was a mention of doing a

Refresh Object List action when things are displayed in dev studio to
make sure all the values are correct.

Since the count is calculated, a restore of an old form definition could
bring back old values. The values are

really advisory and informational so the system doesn't force
recalculation at all times so there is the

possibility that they get out of sync. the Refresh Object List
operation should recalculate things.

I know this doesn't necessarily answer your question, but hopefully it
provides some more information

for you to work with.

Re: Migrator Difference Report and Property List

2014-05-13 Thread Kemes, Lisa A DLA CTR INFORMATION OPERATIONS
Thanks Doug!

What I've noticed is that they are on AST forms that have been Overlaid
(but not all of them).

It's very strange. I don't think anyone was messing with that property.
I could migrate the form like you said and make them exactly the same.
I was just wondering how it got that way to begin with.

This was a difference between Dev and Staging forms on 7.6.04 SP5. We
are building Prod right now so it will be interesting to see which one
Prod matches.

Lisa,

Well, there is a difference

Notice the first number of each of the items - one is 12 and the other
11. That number is the number of

properties that are set in the object list.

Then, looking for the patterns of property\type\value

You see the one with 12 properties has one extra property in it

60048\4\0\\

This is property 60048 that is a character type property with length of
0, an empty string.

This property is a list of fieldIDs semicolon separated that are defined
for the MFS/FTS advanced search

capability.

Now, this property not being present means NO field is indexed for
MFS/FTS

This property having an empty string means NO field is indexed for
MFS/FTS

So, there is a difference in the actual definition in that there is one
extra property defined for one. But, as

far as an actual difference to the definition, there is no
difference..

So, migratory is saying there is a difference because there are a
different number of attributes, but it seems

to have the logic that notices that although different, the fact that
the value is empty means they are not really

different when it is showing the display.

I think this is a reasonable bug report to say that since migratory is
figuring out that the difference is not

significant when it shows the details, it should do that before it
determines there is a difference and not

report there is a difference in the first place.

OR

You could argue that there is a difference, even if not significant, and
the detail should show the difference in

the presence of this extra property even though it is not really a
difference in the result of the system.

(I personally like the first one since there is really no difference in
the definitions in this case. NO string and

an empty string both mean the same thing.)

My guess is that somewhere along the line someone at some point defined
a field for MFS/FTS access and

then that was removed so the property was created to hold it and then
when removed the string was cleared

but the property kept.

If you migrate the form, the difference will be corrected, but there
will be no change to the form

functionality.

I hope this helps,

Hi,

Looking at ar.h from the API-package gives you the answer:
#define AR_OPROP_MFS_WEIGHTED_RELEVANCY_FIELDS  60048
/*
CHAR; semicolon separated list of field ids mapped to weighted relevancy fields
of multi-form fts search in the format as below:
..
e.g. 3;1;536870913;2;536870914;3;536870915
*/

In this case your "list" is empty (4/0 means CHAR with zero length), and
consequently there is no difference between the forms.

I'm not sure how else to describe this problem, but when we upgraded
from 7.6.04 SP2 to 7.6.04 SP5 the application tab that flies out (or
expands) when you click on it, doesn't fly back in when you click on a
link (like "Asset Management" then "Asset Management Console")

Is there something in the Midtier files that we would have to update to
make this happen?
