Team,

Check your database and ARS VLAN setting, if both are set to same VLAN can save
on startup time significantly.

Team,

Recently faced the same. followed felow points then i got BMC support.

1. Taken arstartup log to check the time consuming.
2. sent the ar.conf file. BMC recommended to change some configuration setting.
3. Apart from remedy end, need a support from network and SQL Team.
4. please check our BMC communities for this KB Article.

You bring up a good point. From what I've seen the CPU and RAM are never too
high even when starting up, and the database connection should actually be a
decent connection (both servers are on the same switch, which I can tell thanks
to ADDM) but I'd think that probably is one of the limiting factors of startup.
My suspicion is that BMC's increasing reliance on plugins, which seem to be
black boxes that are hard to gain visibility into, is a major factor as well.

It would be an interesting test to have two pieces of the same hardware with AR
System installed, one with the full ITSM, another without ITSM (but for charity
include the supporting AR System modules like Approval that normally aren't
used in fully custom shops) but with an equal number of forms, groups, and
users, and time the startup times of both.

Shawn,
In later versions of Remedy, you have the options to utilize multiple threads
during the startup. As Rick points out, the main thing that Remedy is doing is
pulling metadata out of the DB and storing it in RAM. So, there is a direct
correlation between how many forms/fields/etc that you have, and how quickly
you can get them out of the DB and into memory that determines how quickly your
Remedy starts. Do you have that dedicated Fiber channel between your DB and
App server that Remedy recommends? :)

Since I have nothing better to do (just kidding, I'm swamped) I wanted to see
if anyone on the list had a good explanation for something that has been an
issue across multiple versions of Remedy for years. Specifically, on Windows,
why does it take so long for Remedy to start up, and is there anything that can
be done to make it load faster without sacrificing performance or functionality?

If someone has found a way to get it to start up in less than 30 seconds, you
should be given a job by BMC. It's been a while since I've worked with Remedy
on Unix but I don't recall it taking as long to start as it does on Windows.

2011-03-15 Thread Manish SINGLA
Hello Axton,

Thanks for your response.

We find a pattern when, the memory requirement of ARS increases the threshold
limit of 2GB, it stops taking login to application.
People/user those who has already logged in could work.

So is the issue we see one of the step to remitence increasing allocated memory
to ARServd process.

What is your comments on this?

I couldn't understand how increasing threads make increase of memory, and what
should be calculation then for this?

These will increase the memory footprint.

Add more concurrent users.
Add more threads.
Increase the size of the Remedy workflow/data dictionary.

do you just want it to use more memory for the sake of using more memory?

URGENT : TABLE Space settings and T Table behaviour on form modification

2010-10-20 Thread Manish SINGLA
Hello List,

We have realized some delay in appearing of "T" table w.r.t Helpdesk while
creating or altering some field and saving the form.
Now could you please advise me what should be settings at DB Oracle's (10G) end.

1. While saving Helpdesk table "T369" for helpdesk, it creates A369 table and
T369 table dis-appears, is this normal.
2. When Helpdesk "T" table disappears helpdesk starts giving error Table and
view doesn't exist, what should be done to save this pattern.
3. What should be TEMP TABLE Space size when Helpdesk "T" table size is "10 GB"
or has no relation to Helpdesk "T" table size.
4. On Helpdesk Form modification, what are the possible cases when indexes
drops.
5. What else can be impacts more on Helpdesk form if appropriate TEMP space not
found.

Thanks to share the above asked question ASAP, is bit urgent to know.

Best Regards
Manish

On a side note, do you have Development Cache Mode turned on on this server?
If so, you'll probably want to turn it off, especially if this is a
production server. Having dev cache mode turned on can cause the admin
thread to get blocked for extended periods of time depending on what's going
on on your server. Note that changing this setting will require you to
restart the AR server for it to take effect.

is not available for the Admin Tool to use. If you happen to have server
logging on you may be able to work out what it's up to from the logs. Also,
depending which platform you're on, you may be able to use ptack (Solaris),
gstack (Linux), procstack (AIX) or Spotlight on Windows to see what the
admin thread is up to. If the thread has died/hung for some reason you're
going to have to restart the server.

2010-02-02 Thread Manish SINGLA
Hello Jaya,

We could login through private thread port not through admin thread.
Any clue or restarting ARServer is only option.

Can we check thread status some where.

Manish

Just try using Demo(as UserName and Password if configured) and provide the
RPC number as 390600 in the accounts tab.

Sometimes the admin thread gets locked and doesn't respond.

Give it a shot :)

Hello Jaya,

Thanks for your prompt reply.
1. Actually we could logon to the ARUser using our Demo(Admin) account.
2. But couldn't logon to ARADMIN(Admin client).

Which was working just two hours back, and there after no people profile
changes etc.

Any clue.

Hi Manish

Try restarting the arsystem this should resolve your issue, incase its
production box and you can't restart.. Try login with you adm account and
provide the rpc number as the admin queue number, that should work.

URGENT: URL Encoded Notification on Email patch 23

2009-08-18 Thread Manish SINGLA
Hello List,

We have an issue which is critical:

Earlier we were there on Email patch 14 or ARS6.3 and just now migrated to
patch 23.

We are using html templates to show #$$Variables$$# values from HPD:Helpdesk
form.

Everything is working well but URL is coming in URLEncoded format which was
not the case earlier. Please refer to following example:

On patch 14

Click here to open ticket on Support Console

On patch 23

 Open ticket on Requester Console

Please advice how we can make the URL back treated as plain text.

Performance issue as ARServed takes 100% CPU utilization

2009-07-17 Thread Manish SINGLA
Hello List,

We have been observing that, when ARServed process reaches to 100% CPU
utilization, system performance get degraded drastically.
Even if system still has another CPU available means in total it's 50%
utilized. This results into when user even couldn't login.

Please advice how I can unblock the situation.

Do increase the index values there in ARSchema table at DB level, say by
some static value 500 etc. This is because when you were archiving the DB,
it was in use and some indexes(At ARschema) remains lesser and at form level
it exceeds.

If you are using ARS 7.5, you got to take advantage of the new "Preload
Tables Configuration".
This feature you can find it documented in the config guide.
Open AR System Administration: Server Information, then click on the
Advanced tab.

CRITICAL:URGENT: ARSystem is taking 20 mins to start

2009-04-23 Thread Manish SINGLA
Hello List,

We are facing a issue like arsystem processes takes 20 mins to restart.

Just last week we have migrated to new architecture, earlier we had
Mid-tier/ARS and DB on same HPUX machine.
Which usually takes 1.5 mins to start all Remedy processes.

But now we have a separate machine for DB out side ARS machine but local to
network(in same datacenter).
Now it takes 20 mins to start.

When we start first four processes starts at a glance as follows:
root 14001 13998 0 Apr 22 ? 0:00
/remedy/software/ARSystem/reconcile/bin/arrecond -s euxa91 -i /
root 14003 13998 0 Apr 22 ? 0:01
/remedy/software/ARSystem/bin/arservapd -s euxa91 -i /remedy/so
root 14004 13998 16 Apr 22 ?609:05
/remedy/software/ARSystem/bin/arserverd -s euxa91 -i /remedy/so
root 13998 1 0 Apr 22 ? 0:00
/remedy/software/ARSystem/bin/armonitor -s euxa91 -c /etc/arsys

But rest of the following takes 20 mins to start with.

root 18921 13998 0 Apr 22 ? 1:09
/remedy/software/ARSystem/bin/arplugin -s euxa91 -i /remedy/sof
root 18919 13998 0 Apr 22 ? 0:00
/remedy/software/ARSystem/bin/arsvcdsp -s euxa91 -d /remedy/sof
root 18920 13998 0 Apr 22 ? 1:35
/remedy/software/ARSystem/bin/arservdsd -s euxa91 -i /remedy/so
root 18909 14004 0 Apr 22 ? 0:01
/remedy/software/ARSystem/bin/arforkd -s euxa91 -l /remedy/soft
root 18012 1 0 10:39:01 ? 0:00 sh -c
/remedy/software/ARSystem/sla/bin/brsvcbrie
root 18013 18012 23 10:39:01 ?29:32
/remedy/software/ARSystem/sla/bin/brsvcbrie

ARSystem is quite trivial and frequent at server level, hence we can't afford
this much of delay which leads to outage.

Please advice ASAP. Will be very grateful to you.

When data get exported to xls, "\n" there in "Description" field breaks

Uregnt Query on web service

2008-12-04 Thread Manish SINGLA
Hello All,

I need to do an integration of Remedy with B2B(EAI), Now there are two things
that can happen between Remedy and B2B i.e.
1. B2B needs to push data to Remedy through a web service
2. Remedy needs to pust data to B2B through a web service

Solution in hand:
1. B2B needs to push data to Remedy through a web service: Seems ok because
B2B(EAI) can call the webservice of remedy and push data to Remedy.
2. Remedy needs to pust data to B2B through a web service: I can create a web
service, which can give data for a qualification.
But this is not THE Task. But the task is to hand over updated ticket
to B2B(EAI).
For which there are two needs: (That I couldn't answer yet, need your
immediate help on same)
1. To have a triggering event that enables web service sending data on
ticket update/create.
2. A service that can call B2B(EAI) Web service to push data on
B2B(EAI).

I hope it clearifies the need.

Thanks for prompt reply.

Are you going direct to the tables, or using the OBDC link?

Hello Manish,

have no hands on experience on ITSM, but the user.log file should be a good
starting point.
Depending on your version, you can turn it on at the admin or user client,
at the server->log settings.

We do some license monitoring/opimization based on that log file, down to
the user.

Don't want to advertise, but you could also invest in a tool for that:
www.rrr.se

They basically also take the user.log file and report on that. Just that
they do all for you,
so you dont have to build a report/logic you own ... from what I know, they
can also
report ITSM (so I assume, the ITSM licenses are also shown at the user.log
file).

Other then that, you have not provided much infos about how you have done
your "current studies". Did you use the log file, or "just" check the
available licenses?

Based on that, we perhaps can help further :-)

Cheerio, Robert

Ps. yes, I think BMC should be way more helpful, in providing further help
for optimized
license allocation ... but hey, its a business :-)

Mit freundlichen Grüßen/Best regards

Feasibility of migration of ARS6.3 to ARS7.1 keeping Application Incident Mgmt and Change Mgmt v6.0

2008-06-22 Thread Manish SINGLA

Hello List,

We are into overall architecture change of our existing Remedy infrastructure.
Currently we are on ARS6.3 + Incident Management 6.0 + Change Management 6.0 +
SLA 2.0 + CMDB1.1 + Oracle 9i.

While testing Oracle 10g with our existing ARS6.3, we realized that ARS6.3 in
not compatible with Oracle 10g client.
So we foresee ARS6.3 as a bottle neck to our Architecture update w.r.t to
Oracle and other components of Remedy as well for e.g. we can't be On CMBD2.0
unless we don't have ARS7.1.

We are looking fwd for the feasibility, if we 1. Install ARS7.1 2. Apply our
existing database dump of application (Incident Management 6.0 + Change
Management 6.0 + SLA 2.0) 3. Install Mid Tier 7.1 4. Install Oracle 10g 5.
Install CMDB2.0

WILL MY SYSTEM WORK AS IT IS WORKING NOW. If not what are the issues behind and
how we can overcome those.

Your input on this keeps very value for me.

Thanks
Best Regards
Manish.

RESEND: ARS6.3 and Oracle 10g migration

2008-05-26 Thread Manish SINGLA
Hello List,

We are doing 10g migration testing for our Action request system.

Currently we are on

1. ARS6.3 Patch 23

2. Oracle 9i

3. OS: HP UX 11i

and now are targeting to go to oracle 10(v10.2.3)g with same ARS and OS.

We have already migrated our oracle component to Oracle 10g (10.2.3) keeping
ARS and OS same, but could not start ARS because system is looking for
Oracle 9i libraries.

Please advice what more is needed at our end, is it requiring some ARS
Patching.

Early will be a help.

Manish

Pending distributed operation for this entry canceled due to error (ARDSNOTE 3003)

2007-10-03 Thread Manish SINGLA
Hello List,

I am facing one such error because of which DSO stops transfering the data to
another system and at that point of time following type of errors starts
populating in arerror.log.

Once we restart the ARSystem it works well.

Is this relate to the Oracle/Unix system file space.

Any clue about such problem.

Regards
Manish

SLA related Query

2007-05-18 Thread Manish SINGLA
Hello List,

Our requirement is that for a certain Category, the various regional and
site level support

groups their local working timings are respected when SLA's are being
computed. And since

it is not possible to make separate SLA's for different support groups so it
is required if

we could have 'Work Timings' defined at group level instead of the SLA.

As an example we have a corporate level service which has its support groups
for all the

regions(all the different sites) and the group names are different based on
the sites.

We want the groups' local timings to be respected.

Can anyone suggest the possibility the same in remedy without creating SLA's
for each group

individually?

Thanks and regards

 Manish
