You will need to use the MidTier client.

MidTier with access from Safari is supported.

I'm not sure why BMC/Remedy did not include the Object List functionality with
the MidTier. However it can be added. Look at page 66 in the BMC Remedy

Hi,

Are you talking about an ITSM-version?

I think that there is a CRQ-number displayed to the user, and then you
have a CRQ-number, the actual Request-ID of field id 1, generated in the
background. I think the Request-ID-number is not intended to be shown to
the user.

Hi,

If it is a hard core AR System requirement, as opposed to an ITSM
requirement, there is not big problem.

If it the users belong to ordinary groups in the Group-form with ('Group
Category' = Regular) it is very straight forward.

- Add a field
- Open field properties and go to the permissions tab
- Add the concerned groups to the right side, and remove those who should
not have access
- Change permission type between Read and Write
- Save your form

There are also functionality in the system to give different access on a
record by records basis. This is called row level access control. The
concepts are a little harder to describe...

When you are walking on the street, if a refrigerator falls on your head, its
an incident.. :-)

If that refrigerator keeps falling thereafter, it kind of becomes a problem :-)

Whatever you might do for that refrigerator not to fall in the future, without
risking any other casualty, is called a change.. :-)

Sorry Pavan, its Friday and that's the best example I could think without
posting a Friday Humor thread and yet kind of explain what the difference is
between those 3 entities...

Thanks for the response, will this just disable auto assignee, or will it

Because we have this enabled for change incidents as well, but the system

Here is an easy one for the list...

I've been asked to find a change request from my old 6.3 system which has been
decommissioned but the database is saved.. now the request is to find out when
the change was done. I have gone into the db and found the request but the time
is 1157724000... This means that this would be September 8, 2006, right???

My understanding is that ARS stores time in Unix time, correct?

Thanks,

Pavan,

In the Developer Suite or Admin Tool (depending on your AR System version) the
display type of the character field needs to be changed from 'Edit' to
'Drop-Down List'. This will restrict the ability for users to roll their own
entry.

Hope this helps,

Its mean there is no difference between archiving and deletion in

retrieve.

I guess the only option then is to look at a database back-up! Guess
this shows the value of testing, testing, testing.

Once an entry has been deleted, then it's over to the database guys for
back-up retrieval...

BTW - please send all replies to the arslist. I don't need to be copied

Good luck with getting those attachments back. If the attachments were
stored in HPD:Attachments or HPD:WorkLog (Depending on ITSM version) and
you specifically did not archive these along with the main incidents,
then I suspect that OOB workflow will have deleted these entries...

Hi Jack,
Archive information.
Select archive option of the form HPD:Help Desk then select Archive
Type: Copy to Archive and Delete from Source
Archive to Form: ARCHIVE:HPD:Help Desk2
Qualification
  'Status'=Closed
By using the above method I successfully archived incidents.

Now remedy user needs attachment of some incidents which are archived.
That's why I need to retrieve some incidents.

 the

system to run a process. Instead, the server traps these special
 process

names and performs the operations directly.

Some commands are available only in the Run Process action, and others

When using these commands, remember that they are case-sensitive. You

must specify the commands exactly as they are listed, including

capitalization. If incorrect capitalization is used, AR System will

run an external process with the given name.

All of the commands in this section also follow the characteristics of a
 process

run from the command line. This means that each parameter needs to be

gathered as a single argument on the command line:

If a parameter includes a space or a special character, you must put

quotation marks around the value. Also surround any keywords with

quotation marks in case the substituted value contains spaces or special

 characters.

If a value contains one or more quotation marks, you must double the

quotation marks and put quotation marks around the entire value.

Quotation marks are a special character.

For example, you enter the following values as shown:

You don't mention version or if you use ITSM7.

This is from BMC --

There are some forms that store a servername as data in a record (not as data
in the Datadictionary per the queries mentioned later). They are:

AST:ARServerConnection
AST:ComplianceARBased_Advanced
TMS:ApplicationRegistry
CAI:AppRegistry
SYS:Escalation
SYS:Attachments - If the out-of-box data is modified by replacing ?arserver?
or ?midtierserver? with the hostnames, only then change these values to the
correct server host name.
NOTE: Some forms will not be available depending on the ITSM installation.

There is also a KB article and two word documents (sql, oracle) available from

I have 2 servers, server 2 is a clone of server 1 and database 2 is a clone of
database 1. I have adjusted server name references on server 2 in the ar.conf,
armonitor.conf, and arsystem files. Server 2 is pointed to its proper database
2.

However, when I start server 2 and access Server Information and Add/Remove
Licenses, both forms are pulling up info from server 1. Can anyone point out
what server name reference(s) I am still missing? Is there another file, or
some data reference in the database? This is the first time we've tried to run
a copy like this. Do you think I will still have to run the install?

Much thanks,

That looks quite adequate to me, but at 120k tickets a year, I hope you
have an archiving strategy, or performance even on that hardware will
begin to suffer pretty soon.

The AR System 7.0.01 Windows User Tool is being tested against the 6.03

server as part of Vista compatibility testing. It is currently

expected that this testing will be completed by late February / early

March. At that time, Vista will be added to the compatibility matrix

for AR System 7.0.01. Since the current compatibility matrix shows

support for the 7.0.01 WUT against the 6.03 server, this combination

will therefore be documented as supported.

Pavan,

Please open a support issue with Tech support about this.

On 1/16/2007 I was informed (by Tech support) of the following:

At this time it is expected that Vista will be added as a supported

platform for version 7.0.1 of the User Tool within 90 days of the

release of the operating system. Currently there are no plans to

certify earlier versions of the User Tool with Vista.

So apparently a currently supported version of the ARS client will not

be ported to a new OS version when the OS vendor release a new version.

Apparently only the latest version will be ported. (And since this

client is only supported on Windows, I will not accept that oh it is

to much work to port it to every OS out there

argument.)

I have no idea if there are any v7.0.1 ARS client talking to ARS v6.3

Server issues. But if there is even one, then I hope that all the

affected customers who may be affected by this BMC decision open ticket

right now and maybe... sometime in the next year... BMC will get around

to actually supporting the supported versions of their software.

rant

I am a bit touchy about this one because I just saw that support

closed my issue WITHOUT PROVIDING A FIX FOR THE STATED PROBLEM.

The support we are getting from BMC does not appear to actually fix

anything these days. They just write down that at some point in the

future they are planning on having a fix, so that means that this issue

is now closed. (WHICH IS COMPLETELY WRONG. It is closed when the problem

no longer exists and not a second before that.)

Oh and BMC defined the ship date for Vista to be 1/20/07. Even though

it was released to large customers (AKA: Microsoft Volume License

customer) in mid Nov 06! So while I have people in my organization

using VISTA desktops in late December, BMC defines it as not a problem

until 1/20, and then they think they will have an answer ready around

4/20? How can they think that is acceptable?

I am finding a special error in my Remedy 6.3 application

auto closed after 10 business days, along with Status change from

** Have you looked into
Server Groups and load balancing your Remedy servers? You could have two (or
more) ARS servers pointing to the same database so that if one goes the other
continues to function. Then you need only worry about database replication. This
would eliminate the need for DNS changes.

Also, you will have to force a DNS update
that may take hours, depending on DNS aging and how you setup your internal
