2007-07-24 Thread Mike Buick

Hi All,

Could someone please send me this information. Remedy versions verses
Oracle DB versions would be most helpful. I have given up on the BMC site, it
maybe in there somewhere, but its not particularly intuitive.

Thanks a lot
Mike

Re: Compatibility Matrix

2010-05-05 Thread Atul Vohra
Thanks.

The reason I asked is:

I am trying to install ARS 7.5 on Windows 2008 and am getting the error "no
space to install". I know we have enough space.

I have done the following to configure the DEP feature
• From the Windows Start menu, click Control Panel, and then double-click
System.
• Click the Advanced tab.
• In the Performance area, click Settings.
• On the Data Execution Prevention tab, verify if the “Turn on DEP for
all programs
• and services except those I select” option is selected.
• If the “Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only”
option is selected, no configuration is required.

Is there anything I can check?

Thanks

Look at your Temp Path variable.
If the path has a space in it, you will get the error you mention below.
We always change the temp path to C:\Temp and it works fine after that.\

Hi All,

Could someone please send me this information. Remedy versions verses
Oracle DB versions would be most helpful. I have given up on the BMC
site, it maybe in there somewhere, but its not particularly intuitive.

Thanks a lot

6.03.00 Compatibility Matrix Needed

2012-05-09 Thread John Baker
I do find such statements interesting in a world where every document ends up
in the Google cache, EULA or no EULA.

Indeed, JSS gets a lot of good publicity/business from non-BMC/HP users with
our online documentation that's been indexed and is of use to others studying
SSO technologies.

ITSM 8 Compatibility Matrix

2012-09-25 Thread Axton
Can anyone make heads or tails of the ITSM 8 Compatibility Matrix or the
PAC information? I would like to know if I can upgrade the CMDB to version
8 and use it with Asset 7.5. I tried reading through the BMC
Interoperability documentation as well, but all this documentation is
lacking in version cross-references for compatibility.

Application Stack (Current):
- ARS 7.5 patch 3
- Atrium CMDB 7.5 patch 5
- ITSM 7.5.01.0 patch 000
- AIE 7.5 patch 5
- SLM 7.5.00 patch 001

Application Stack (Targeted):
- ARS 8.0
- Atrium CMDB 8.0
- ITSM 7.5.01.0 patch 000
- AIE 7.5 patch 5
- SLM 8.0

Is this possible? For reference, here is the link to the ITSM 8
Compatibility Matrix:
http://media.cms.bmc.com/documents/ITSM-8000-Applications-Compatibility.pdf

Browser compatibilities are more dependent on the core Mid-Tier version, and
not so much on the AR System applications... check the version of the
Mid-Tier and see recommended versions for the browser. Usually thought there
are limited restrictions on browser version and most current versions of
most browsers at the time of a release of the Mid-Tier work...

Re: Compatibility Matrix browsers.

2011-03-08 Thread Easter, David
> When they say Explorer 6 and higher it means it has been tested for Explorer

Not completely true. Higher versions are tested if/when available during the
release cycle for a given release - or tested on subsequent patch releases. So
BMC does not test *just* the minimum version and no others.

That said, the statement that higher versions are supported because of forward
compatibility is completely accurate. So if a new browser version comes out
post-release, BMC still supports it because of the backwards compatibility of
the browsers.

When they say Explorer 6 and higher it means it has been tested for Explorer
6 but not tested on higher, but it being forward compatible, it should work.
So you should be good on Explorer 7 or Firefox 2.0 and any version
higher

You may want to search for Flash compatibility too, as some consoles of ITSM
7.x onwards have flash objects.. With pre 7.6.4 apps, these were limited to
CMDB and SRM, but with 7.6.4 apps these have been extended to consoles of
IM, AM, PM and CM as well..

There may be mention that certain versions of a flash player is not
supported.. Also for IE I have learnt that installing only the Flash Player
plugin is not enough. This would be enough for Firefox, Safari or Chrome,
but for IE, you need the Flash Player ActiveX installed..

Hope this helps..

Re: 6.03.00 Compatibility Matrix Needed

2012-05-09 Thread pritch
David - I admire your knowledge of where everything is. However, one could
point to the fact that 6.03.00 is no longer supported, or that the path to
DOC-7077 is not that intuitive, but with the current state of the support
folks, can you really use BMC and Intellectual in the same sentence (ok so it's
a bit of sarcasm)? I would really encourage you to review some of the tickets
in the BMC support system or listen into some of the support calls to see how
well it's going. We get better answers here on the ARSlist.

On a positive note - good luck with the quarterly earnings release later today
- we're rooting for ya!

Just a reminder that BMC Intellectual Property, which includes compatibility
matrices, may not be distributed by any entity besides BMC.  Doing so is a
violation of the EULA.

The files can be found on a BMC moderated download site here:

You must first sign up for an account on the BMC Communities to have access to

requirement to get that account – just agreeing to the EULA.

If you go onto BMC Communities and do a search for

point to the fact that 6.03.00 is no longer supported, or that the path to
DOC-7077 is not that intuitive, but with the current state of the support
folks, can you really use BMC and Intellectual in the same sentence (ok so it's

Eric,

Just a word of caution. It is never a good idea, IMHO, to mix Server and
Admin tools. I speak from experience and I am sure there are others out
there that have had very bade things happen when doing that. Upgrading
on the fly is never a fun thing.

Hi All,

The compatibility matrix shows the following:

AR System Administrator 7.1.00

Supported on Server 6.3.00?

Yes [6.3.00 features]

Given that, I have installed AR System Administrator 7.1.00. I am
running into an issue when trying to Administer a 6.3.00 server with it.
I click on File, Licenses, Manage User Licenses. I get the following
message:

This option is depreciated from BMC Remedy Administrator. Go to BMC
Remedy User and open the corresponding option in the AR System
Administration Console.

Being that the server I am trying to manage licenses on is still 6.3, it
does not have an AR System Administration Console.

I may have missed something in the docs. Does anyone know of a way to
manage user licenses given the following above "supported" combination
of Administrator and Server?

Re: Version 7.1 Compatibility Matrix

2007-09-06 Thread Eric Cleereman (IT)
Hi All,

The compatibility matrix shows the following:
AR System Administrator 7.1.00
Supported on Server 6.3.00?
Yes [6.3.00 features]

Given that, I have installed AR System Administrator 7.1.00. I am running into
an issue when trying to Administer a 6.3.00 server with it. I click on File,
Licenses, Manage User Licenses. I get the following message:
This option is depreciated from BMC Remedy Administrator. Go to BMC Remedy
User and open the corresponding option in the AR System Administration Console.

Being that the server I am trying to manage licenses on is still 6.3, it does
not have an AR System Administration Console.

I may have missed something in the docs. Does anyone know of a way to manage
user licenses given the following above "supported" combination of
Administrator and Server?

All,

Is it just me or does the compatibility matrix say that the Admin Tool
is only supported on "Windows 2000, 2003 (32 or x64)".

What happened to Windows XP? :) Do I need to downgrade my XP Pro box
to Windows 2k? ( I really doubt it. It looks like BMC only listed
SERVER OS's and not client OS's for the Admin Tool client. )

And

Did the "Service Desk" application get renamed to "Remedy Help Desk

It's just you. The line above states that the Admin Tool is supported
on both XP and Vista.

That's how it was listed in the 7.0.01 matrix as well. We can switch it
over to "Service Desk" in the next revision for complete accuracy.

Re: Version 7.1 Compatibility Matrix

2007-09-06 Thread Carey Matthew Black
David,

Ok... I see my points of confusion

The table is labeled "AR System Client Supported Configurations" and
the table is sorted by "Operating System" instead of what I would
expect the sort order would be of "AR System Client". However it looks
like all of the tables on the first 9 pages are all sorted by
Platform/OS. So I guess there is some consistency there. Then, of
course, the next 5 pages are sorted by BMC software title. ( Which
was what I was expecting in the first 9 pages.)

Then that was further complicated by the string "AR System
Administration Tool" (on the first line, but not the second line)
being in italic. ("Italics indicate an addition since AR System
7.0.01") I think the Italic is trying to show that Vista is now
supported for the Admin Tool? But the thing that is italicized is the
client name and not one of the two OS's in the table. ( I mean the
Admin Tool isn't newly supported on XP right? And the Admin Tool is
not new since 7.0.01 right?)

So when I read the first line the Italic text under it was interpreted
as a footnote or modifier of the "AR System User Tool" text (above it
and in the same "cell") and I did not even read the text itself. I
guess I need to slowdown a bit and read all the pretty text to get the
most out of the information that is there. :)

Thanks for pointing that out for me. I guess I need to adjust to the
new format. I actually think the older formats were easier to
decipher. I can sort an Excel spreadsheet, but I can not do that with
a PDF, and there was less "text" getting in the way of the "matrix"
too. In fact the only think I really did not like about the
spreadsheet file was that there was only one page/tab. If every
product (or table if you prefer) was on a separate page/tab then
sorting would be much easier too. There would even be more room for
explanations about the footnotes below each table too. But again,
maybe that is just one persons opinion.

Also thanks for the clarification about the "Service Desk" vs "Help
Desk" application name too. I realize it takes time and effort to get
every line of text to be consistent again after a product is renamed.
I look forward to seeing consistent terminology for all of BMC's
products in all of the mounds of product documentation.

HTH.

Re: Version 7.1 Compatibility Matrix

2007-09-07 Thread Thad K Esser
Since we on the topic of consistency (kind of) ... one of my peeves has
been the inconsistent version numbers. In some places on the support site
6.3 is listed as 6.03.00, which I think is the "official" version.
Subsequently, people say six-oh-three, which gets translated to 6.0.3,
which, of course, didn't exist. That gets complicated by the existence of
6.0.1 (or is it 6.00.01, the patch download site has both). Now comes
7.1, but I haven't seen it shown as 7.01.00 anywhere. Probably a good
thing because of 7.0.1 (7.00.01?)

It doesn't really matter whether the leading zero is there or not (I
prefer it not to be there for simplicity), but it should be consistent
across all documents/menus.

Re: Version 7.1 Compatibility Matrix

David,

2007-09-20 Thread strauss
RKM 7.1.01 will install its own instance of Tomcat 5.5.20 for both JSP
container and web, or use the ones installed by mid-tier, or the
ubiquitous "Other" if you want, such as IIS and SE/ SE AS. Remember
that RKM is also installing its own instance of Hummingbird SearchServer
on the web platform that you choose, and it runs as a Java application
on the same web server. The consequences of sharing the mid-tier web
instance are that (a) you have to set it up manually to load the ARS
java components ONLY ONCE, in Tomcat or SE, or the first service to load
(mid-tier or RKM) "wins" the JVM, and (b) a crash of Hummingbird within
RKM can definitely crash Tomcat, which on restart can send your mid-tier
off on a prefetch run again which is guaranteed to impair your AR Server
for up to 30 minutes. The _best_ setup I have found for a production
system is to give RKM a separate server from mid-tier but use the
default Tomcat installation; mine shares the server with EIE, a non-web
application that also deserves its own machine.

Hi,

you need the following:

System Requirements and Notes BMC Remedy IT Service Management 8.0.00 suite
requires and is compatible with the following BMC product versions (or
later):

BMC Remedy Action Request System 8.0.00

BMC Atrium Core 8.0.00

BMC Atrium Integrator 8.0.00

The BMC Remedy IT Service Management 8.0.00 suite core applications are
designed to optimally work with other ITSM suite applications of the same
major/minor version. The following list of applications - in combination
with the platform products of the same version - defines the recommended
Remedy ITSM suite configuration: BMC Service Desk 8.0.00

BMC Change Management 8.0.00

BMC Asset Management 8.0.00

BMC Knowledge Management 8.0.00

BMC Service Request Management 8.0.00

BMC Atrium Service Level Management 8.0.00

In addition, the BMC Remedy IT Service Management 8.0.00 suite applications
are also supported to work in the following configuration, as part of an
upgrade from an existing 7.6.04 environment: BMC Service Desk 7.6.04 (SP2 or
higher)

BMC Change Management 7.6.04 (SP2 or higher)

BMC Asset Management 7.6.04 (SP2 or higher)

BMC Knowledge Management 8.0.00

BMC Service Request Management 8.0.00

I guess it's the vague statements like "designed to optimally work with"
that throw me off. I was looking for a matrix, as the document title
suggested. How sub-optimal will my proposed configuration be? Will it
work at all?

Is "BMC Atrium Service Level Management" the same thing as "SLM"?

Re: ITSM 8 Compatibility Matrix

2012-09-25 Thread Peter Adams
As in the past, the BMC Remedy ITSM Suite compatiblity document focuses on
describing compatiblity info for Remedy ITSM applications. So, in this case
here, it contains information about Remedy ITSM 8.0 applications.

If you want information about compatiblity of BMC Atrium Core 8.0 with older
versions of BMC Remedy Asset Management, then as in the past, you would have to
look at the BMC Atrium Core Compatiblity document.

The statement "8.0.00 applications are designed to optimally work with other
ITSM suite applications of the same major/minor version" refers to the fact
that if you use a mixed version stack of 7.6.04 and 8.0.00 applications, you
won't be able to benefit from all the new features built into 8.0.00 apps.

I tried looking in the PAC application but I could not find version 8 of
the Atrium CMDB in there. I looked under all these application names
(these are all the products with the string "CMDB" in the name):
 - BMC Atrium CMDB Enterprise Manager
 - BMC Atrium CMDB Enterprise Manager - Enterprise Use
 - BMC Atrium CMDB Suite

In the PAC application, under "BMC Remedy IT Service Management Suite"
"8.0.00," I see this paragraph:

1) BMC Remedy IT Service Management 8.0.00 supports all of the operating
system / database combinations supported by the underlying BMC Remedy AR
System with the exception of IBM® Informix®. Please see the BMC Remedy AR

Where can I find the compatibility matrix for Atrium CMDB 8.0?

Please try the URL again. It should open compatibility matrix PDF for Atrium

I tried looking in the PAC application but I could not find version 8 of the
Atrium CMDB in there. I looked under all these application names (these are
all the products with the string "CMDB" in the name):
 - BMC Atrium CMDB Enterprise Manager
 - BMC Atrium CMDB Enterprise Manager - Enterprise Use
 - BMC Atrium CMDB Suite

In the PAC application, under "BMC Remedy IT Service Management Suite"
"8.0.00," I see this paragraph:

1) BMC Remedy IT Service Management 8.0.00 supports all of the operating system
/ database combinations supported by the underlying BMC Remedy AR System with
the exception of IBM(r) Informix(r). Please see the BMC Remedy AR System
Compatibility Matrix and the BMC Atrium Core Compatibility Matrix for details
and specific minimum version levels. Please refer the link
http://media.cms.bmc.com/documents/AR+System+8.0.00+Compatibility+Matrix.pdf
for BMC Remedy AR System Compatibility Matrix and
http://media.cms.bmc.com/documents/BMC_Atrium_Core_8_0_00_Compatibility_Matrix.pdf
for the BMC Atrium Core Compatibility Matrix.

I tried to open the URL to the the Atrium Core 8 Compatibility Matrix
(http://media.cms.bmc.com/documents/BMC_Atrium_Core_8_0_00_Compatibility_Matrix.pdf),
 but I get a 404 error.

Where can I find the compatibility matrix for Atrium CMDB 8.0?

Re: Version 7.1 Compatibility Matrix

2007-09-04 Thread strauss
All of my 7.1 component testing has been successful with 1.5.0_12 - no
problems were the fault of the Java version. Other new apps like RKM
7.1.01 are using 1.5.0 by default for Tomcat 5.2.0, so I expect to see
more of this on the updated apps. Skip 1.5.0_11 because of the registry
bug if you are on Windows servers.

1.5.0_12 is a good drop - avoid drop 11, though - it doesn't update the

It is not supported. It may or may not work.

The "minimum" or "or higher" policy was first introduced with AR System version
7.5.00 and the policy was not grandfathered back to 7.1.00. Thus, the
compatibility matrix for 7.1.00 shows exactly the versions that are supported.

I don't know where the table below came from, but you can always get the
official documentation here:

Re: Compatibility matrix for ARS7.1

2011-02-22 Thread Easter, David
Patrick - not sure what you're referring to as a "PreStack". If you're
referring to the Suite Preconfigured Stack Installer, that was first released
with 7.6.0x - thus what the SSI supports is not an indication of what AR System
7.1.00 supports.

Re: R: Re: Compatibility Matrix browsers.

2011-03-08 Thread Joe Martin D'Souza

Joe

Browser compatibilities are more dependent on the core Mid-Tier version,
and

not so much on the AR System applications... check the version of the
Mid-Tier and see recommended versions for the browser. Usually thought
there

are limited restrictions on browser version and most current versions of
most browsers at the time of a release of the Mid-Tier work...

Try the parent link, which will challenge you for your Support ID:

http://www.bmc.com/support/reg/remedy-compatibility-tables.html

If that doesn't work for you, you may need to start at
http://www.bmc.com/support and work your way down. The link is on the left
hand side of the screen and is called "Product Availability Compatibility".

Compatibility matrix access requires a Support ID.

Re: AR System 7.1 Compatibility Matrix copy needed

2010-08-03 Thread Easter, David
Not to be a legal stickler, but BMC documentation - including compatibility
matrices - are copyright of BMC Software and (according to the BMC Legal
department) are not to be distributed by any sources other than BMC. Thus,
compatibility matrices are not to be E-mailed by non-BMC sources and must be
obtained through BMC identified sources like Support Central or the BMC
Developer Network.

This is why current matrices (and documentation) require a Support ID for
access on Support Central and historical matrices (and documentation) require a
valid account on BMC DN to access.

This also means that BMC documentation can't be posted on a public non-BMC
website, btw. I know that BMC Legal has sent cease and desist notices to some
folks who have done so in the past...

Note that I'm not in the BMC legal department - just passing on the
information.

BMC Remedy Compatibility matrix web page reverted back to old

2009-04-20 Thread Easter, David
Hi All,

(Wanted to put this in its own message)

Looks like, when they did the upgrade on the BMC site that they dropped in a 3+
year old version of the compatibility matrix page. I've submitted an internal
service request to get it returned to the correct version.

http://www.bmc.com/support/reg/remedy-compatibility.html

On the positive side, if you want to grab the AR System 6.0.01 compatibility
matrix, now's your chance. ;-)

Vista Support now added to AR System 7.0.01 Compatibility Matrix

2007-04-24 Thread Easter, David
Hi All,

Vista has now officially been added to the AR System 7.0.01
compatibility matrix.

FAQ:

Q: What versions of Vista does AR System support?
A: Since AR System is primarily a business application, AR System
supports the "Business", "Enterprise" and "Ultimate" editions only. We
will not be supporting the "Home Basic", "Home Premium", or "Starter"
editions. See:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/editions/default.mspx for
more information on editions.

Q: What about AR System 6.03?
A: The AR System 7.0.01 User Tool was tested on Vista against AR System
6.03 Server and is supported. The 6.03 User Tool was not tested on
Vista and is not supported. AR System 6.03 customers wishing to use
Vista will need to upgrade their User Tool version to 7.0.01.

Q: Do I need to run Vista in Windows XP emulation mode for the AR System
7.0.01 User Tool to work properly?
A: No. It runs fine in "native" Vista.

Q: What about Internet Explorer 7?
A: Internet Explorer 7 is already supported on AR System 7.0.01 as it
falls in the "or above" category of browser support. It has been
supported since October 2006.

Q: What about ITSM applications - will they be supported?
A: It is expected that any support for Microsoft Vista added to the AR
System will mean that ITSM applications loaded on top of AR System
7.0.01 will also support Microsoft Vista.

Q: What about the Admin Tool and other Windows-based clients?
A: Only the User Tool is currently supported on Vista. Other
Windows-based clients will be tested in AR System 7.1.00 .

Q: What about the Vista Server - when will AR System support that?
A: The Microsoft "Vista" Server, which is still called "Longhorn" right
now, is not expected to release until sometime in late 2007. We will
attempt to add support post-release in a manner similar to how Vista
support is being added to AR System 7.0.01 - but since servers are more
complex than clients, this may not be possible. If support cannot be
added post-release, we would add support in the 2008 release of AR
System.

Thanks,

The official entry point for information about compatibility of all BMC
products is the BMC Solution and Product Availability and Compatibility Utility
(SPAC)<http://www.bmc.com/available/spac.html>.
For Remedy products, you can access from there the compatibility doc (pdf
version) - in case there is one available to provide more details.

Re: Compatibility matrix for AR System and ITSM Management Suite 8.1.02..

2015-02-22 Thread Joe D'Souza
I did try that yesterday.

It is just too overwhelming with multiple choices that look like they might
mean the same product when choosing the product you are seeking
compatibility information for. And after choosing BMC Remedy IT Service
Management Suite and extracting the Excel file, I got the file that I had
posted in an earlier response which had a URL for a PDF doc having an
address that no longer exists.

Anyway got the PDF file from Laurent who had downloaded it at a time when
that URL had worked.

Compatibility Matrix with Oracle 32-bit Client under a Linux 64-bit OS

2007-02-02 Thread Mike James
Good Morning All,

Has anyone tried to install ARS (7.01) in a 64-bit Red Hat AS4
environment with Oracle Client 10gR2?
It seems that there maybe support problems with Oracle 32-bit Client
under a 64-bit OS. The case maybe that Oracle does not offer support
for a 32bit Client for a 64bit Linux OS. Although this is listed in the
compatibility matrix, can anyone confirm this?

BMC requires a configuration which is not supported by the DB vendor.
1. a supported ARS environment with
RHEL4 64-Bit
32-Bit Oracle Client
ARS 7.0.1
which may not be supported from Oracle side.

2. a supported oracle environment
RHEL4 64-Bit
64-Bit Oracle Client
ARS 7.0.1
which may not be supported from BMC side

Can anyone shed any light on this situation?

Best Regards
Mike

AW: Compatibility Matrix with Oracle 32-bit Client under a Linux 64-bit OS

2007-02-06 Thread Mike James
Hallo Fred,
thanks for the Link. Here the Statement we received from BMC.

The is no version of ARS that will run with 64-bit database
connectivity. Remedy is a 32-bit application that requires the Oracle
32-bit client software. Future versions of ARS will support 64-bit
connectibity but this will be in a future major release. It is not going
to happen in a patch to the current versions.

The information received from our product management team so far
suggests that Oracle supported the 32-bit client on x86_64 Linux at the
time the compatibilty matrix was created, but that they no longer
support this combination. We are going to contact Oracle for
clarification but, as the information you have has come from them, I
suspect we already have the answer.

Therefore, the options for your customer are;

* use the 32-bit version of Linux

* use the 64-bit version of Linux and the 32-bit Oracle client.
This may not be supported by Oracle but this does not necessarily mean
it will not work. This combination was used to develop and test ARS on
the 64-bit Linux platform by BMC and it has passed our QA procedure.

* wait for a 64-bit version of ARS. I have no information on
when this may be available but you should not expect it in the near
future.

Regards
Mike

Am I crazy or does Oracle's answers seem contradictory?

The answer to a is in conflict with point 2 and point 4 of the note.
The answer to c is confusing. Isn't Linux x86-64 a 64 bit O/S (the 32
