From _PUSH blogs | Asbury Park_ (http://www.pushhere.com/blog/asbury-park.html) , Push, in collaboration with Hydra Studio, is pleased to be a part of these changes with the design and development of a new website. _TheAsburyParkBoardwalk.com_ (http://theasburyparkboardwalk.com/) was designed to visually showcase the rock ‘n’ roll history of Asbury Park, while offering resources for ongoing Asbury Park news and events. The website utilizes a hybrid of Flash, HTML and PHP environments to create a searchable, dynamic platform that can be bookmarked and networked throughout the Web. The site has a modern rock ‘n’ roll theme combined with the many historical visuals associated with Asbury Park and its influence on American music and seaside lifestyles. **Looking for a car that's sporty, fun and fits in your budget? [AsburyPark] Re: Insult to Injury - Bruce's car goes there
YOU're the one, asking should AP have another museum, not me. I took it to mean what I posted. Tongue in cheek. Since I live and pay taxes here, I have the option of speaking FOR Asbury Park. Museums give a City character and prestige, just as the new eateries and shops do. It means that the residents are cultured and believe in preserving the past. You know full well, that I'm not new, as you put it, in this group. I'm that other group; you know, the dominant group in Asbury; the Blacks! I vote, I matter and I count! I'm unashamed of my rich heritage and culture. I should know; I was born and raised in New Orleans, Roman Catholic by birth, 5th generation of Catholics from slavery, in a predominantly Catholic area. I still have family and friends there. I came here, in 1968, to visit, look the place over and see if I'd care, to live here. I moved here, in 1970, after the riots. If you ask 10 people what caused the riot, you get 10 different answers, from natives. I've heard rumors, bad and good about this place, but this much I do know, some of the finest human beings live, work and play here. Asbury Park, is a place with a heart and soul. Many came here for all the right reasons. There ARE posters, who don't live here, but grew up as you did, elsewhere, (I'm assuming). Not being a native, I don't have that much room to talk either, but to some, I've been here so long, I'm spoken to, as though I came WITH the place. I love that. I love the honor and respect I get in the most unexpected places. When stories are related to me of past years, I remind the speaker, that I didn't grow up here and I'm told, Well you MISSED it, while I chuckle away. Hey, I forgot; opinions are like your rear end, everybody has one. If I've insulted you, I humbly apologize! A REAL woman isn't to big to say she's sorry! Remember that. --- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, charlie [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: This is an Asbury Park Group and you live in Ocean Twp., so what's your problem? I just commented that it could be neat to have another museum type place, paired along with another form of entertainment. A lot of stuff has happened in AP over the last 50 plus years. It's places like that that go along with the dream of making AP something again. let people know what was here, and what things are still going on today. Re: [AsburyPark] Re: Insult to Injury - Bruce's car goes there
The original ideas were NOT for a ROCK and ROLL museum - it was a museum highlighting the entire history of music in New Jersey. This history, in case you're not familiar with the artists, is pretty extensive. In fact, many musical firsts throughout our country's history were done or created by people from Jersey. Rock, pop, opera, jazz, hip-hop, country, etc.For example, Newark, New Jersey was one of the top cities in the world for jazz musicians while artists like Frank Sinatra remain one of the biggest names in the world. This museum idea would bring crowds. Unfortunately, the people behind the idea do not have money and the people with money don't have the foresight. jennanna13 wrote: Oh boy- Do we really think that a ANOTHER rock and roll museum is needed in Asbury Park? Whoa... No hard feelings here.. And nice background info there about yourself! Your posting name looked different to me for some reason. Sorry... My yahoo i.d. sometimes comes up different on my end. So does my messenger, it's strange. Yes, I know you're not new. However, I DID NOT post a question asking if a new museum should come to be. I simply commented a short comment on a previous post, that it may be a neat idea. Because it would showcase the history of AP's music scene. AP indeed does have one. I thought the music heritage scene of AP was something worth saving, or holding onto? I've seen numerous postings about how music was the best way to market AP, becasue it's real, and not something forced onto a place. It is and was AP.
[AsburyPark] 1st ave pavilion
Some of the finished 1st ave pavilion railings were installed a few days ago. The temp wood ones that faced the Ocean Ave side are gone. Also, the 2nd story balcony terrace railings are up! I think they changed styles from the original railings. There was a modern stainless steel railing post of some sort up there, but now it's gone. The upstairs railings also seem to match the mesh style of the 5th ave pavilion. It looks good. Yahoo! Actually, that Peddler you mention was called Budget Bicycles, which is a business I helped to build. The original building held a laundromat. It was an off-shoot of the Peddler, but came many years after the Peddler was in Long Branch. I'm pretty sure the original Peddler location was in West End, in a circular building at the end of, or near, Brighton Ave, long before there was a DJ's in the same area. As part of the crew that brought Budget Bicycles to life, I was given the task of painting their sign. Of course, I sucked at art, or sign painting, or design back in those days. So I painted a horrendous depiction of a bicycle in neon orange paint. Somebody from Ad Age magazine got ahold of that pic, and for one brief week, it won the award for Ugliest Sign in America! [AsburyPark] Sixth Avenue??
Whats the deal with 6th Avenue eastbound between Kingsley and Ocean? Is the BCH using it as parking for its guests? There were many cars in there and there are no numbered spaces, so it would technically be free parking for those who park there. There are always gates up but the seem to get moved on weekends and when there are events. What exactly is the hold up with 6th Avenue being completely reopened? Is my assumption correct in that the BCH pool is in the way of the street widening (notice where the new sidewalk begins to curve, it cuts right into their pool section) and also that the BCH is using the area for parking? Re: [AsburyPark] Re: 1st ave pavilion
The railings do look good. They are a similar mesh style but not exactly like the 5th Avenue Pavilion ones. I would think the 5th Ave Pavilion railings will match the existing ones so they dont have to change the old one which they left up. Since some railings are going in, I would think the rest would be going in on the other pavilions soon. It will be interesting to see if railings go up on the bandshell. Similar to the 5th, yes. The 5th ave on es are staying. They added an extender piece on the top to bring it them up to code. However, they did paint them all orange again! The drawings called for black, and MM even talked about black.. I am hoping for the black. No, the railings most likely will not be going up on the upstairs bandshell... The plan calls for the sides to be squared off. I can't find the link (again), but i'm sure someone on here has it. You can see what i'm talking about.

Jack, Funny that you mention the performance in OG. During my last visit, OG had a Christian rock group performing at their north end beach. I was sitting on the OG side of the Wesley Lake wall and the echoes sounded like the performance was coming from within the Heating Plant. I agree that music makes it all come together. I have also been impressed with the offerings at Style Rocket, but realistically, heh, nope, I'll shop elsewhere. Re: [AsburyPark] Re: Boardwalk is magic tonight
As much as we all criticize the redevelopment and the developers, seeing something like this makes us realize that Asbury Park has really rebounded. Its no longer the ghost town it had been. Its a great city that hopefully will only keep growing. And it has nothing to do with condos. The condos that are already built arn't even selling, are they? Does anyone know what teh status of North Beach is?? It doesn't look too lived in yet! Also, i've been trying to figure out what happened to the north side of north beach, facing Ocean ave. Major stucco re plastering for the last month? Any ideas on what happened? I think there's going to be a big problem with the condos. The ones built don't seem to be selling How does anyone figure the massive amount yet to come will sell either? We will just have to wait and see how all that works out. But, weather the condos come or they don't. The magic going on on the boardwalk tonight shows the condos have nothing to do with it. Condos or no condos, the boardwalk will always have stuff going on. So what if there are condos a few blocks away, or upstairs on Ocean ave. As long as everything on the ground floor stays retail/clubs/entertainment then the area will always have stuff going on. We will just have to wait and see what happens next.
Re: [AsburyPark] Asbury Park-ing
Parking will always be a problem. Most beach towns have their share of problems. Once their filled up, their filled up! You can't provide an unlimited amount of parking.

Demolish C-8 pt. 2 and you could build an amazing mini-golf. Or, leave it as is and make a mini-golf monument to unfinished real estate. --- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, oakdorf [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: --- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, charlie oceanchuck@ wrote: Where else would you locate one though? mini golf that is. [AsburyPark] Re: Boardwalk is magic tonight
Wow, Charlie, Your opinions seem to change more frequently than ocean breezes! It was not too long ago that you claimed that there was so little to DO on the boardwalk that people would not spend time there but would move on to more exciting places. Tonight you are amazed by Boardwalk Magic. Hmmm. Possibly you are enjoying yourself more in Asbury Park recently. The North Side of North Beach Facing Ocean Avenue that you ask about . North Beach faces Ocean Avenue on the EAST side; get a reliable compass! (Then again, sandpiper got west and east confused.) I have been told by a terrific source that the residents in those units took on a whole lot of water during the fiercer rainstorms this year. Yes, North Beach is leaking and the work that you see is correcting that particular problem. If people are complaining, there must be residents in North Beach. I took a tour of Wesley Grove this year, it is certainly not full, but people DO live there. Since neither of us live there, our place is to observe, comment and appreciate. There is only one Asbury Park and it does not have to be there for everyone to enjoy. The people of Asbury Park are doing their best so that we can enjoy their City. As always, I encourage you to TALK with the people of Asbury Park when you visit, you will learn many things. That's how I learned about the leakage at North Beach and that was over a month ago. Remember that nice Blue wall that you like so much might be a Red wall tomorrow. Things change!
