Are you a human resources employee of any large company?  My guess is you not
because they are actually trying to lobby for the change. It is not fair to any
person who is Qualified for a position, to lose it to s stat hire to fill a
quota. It is not fair to a company to have to waste money to fill shoes. It is
not fair to America and its Economy to have this excess $ waste $. It should
be changed back to Qualifications to fill a position. I am not racist in this I
actually know 23 people that are the head of Human resources in 23 different
companies that say this. For the record the are not Caucasian.

To be a Governer in Alaska is the highest level in the nation. The Governer of
Alaska is not just a governer. The are givin one of the Highist security
clearences in the USA. They have information givin to them every 3 hours on
National security. Alaska is the last state on the nuclear strike list for
America. They have to be able to respond incase of a nuclear strike. There is
no other Governer in the United States of America that is givin this clearence.
The governers of 3 major cities in the country are givin basic clearence which
means nothing and the rest of them are not givin anything in security
clearence. To get the clearence she has you have to be trained and your
background check has to be clean. Unlike some other shit voted in.
She is excellent at what she does. She would have done what had to be done with
securing our borders.    I cant say much for the new group thats in now. I dont
think they are interested in security. But I am hoping that I am wrong.

Obama's Birth Certificate Verified
by DAVID KNOWLES
NOV 3RD 2008 9:32AM

One of the stranger stories to come out of this year's election was the widely
e-mailed
claim that Barack Obama was ineligible to run for president because he was not
actually
born on U.S. soil. Our constitution, you see, requires that our presidents be
natural-born
citizens. John McCain, of course, was born in Panama, though, because that
event took
place on a U.S. military base, it passes constitutional muster.

The unfounded, conspiratorial charge that Obama was hiding his birth
certificate got a
whole lot of people who were already upset at Obama even more upset. Call it
the bitter
icing on the bitter cake. These folks screaming about the birth certificate are
the same
ones who believe that we don't know the real Obama.

Obama's campaign released copies of the birth certificate to the media, but
that wasn't
good enough for the lunatic fringe. After all, the campaign might have doctored
the
copies! So, all across the country crazy people started filing lawsuits to get
the state of
Hawai'i to break its own laws and show off the original document. What always
astonished
me about this story was the notion that a guy would go through this whole
process--two
years of non-stop campaigning and the endless scrutiny it entails--if he knew
that he
could be knocked out of the race on a simple technicality.

Well, on Friday, the Director of Hawaii's Department of Health, Dr. Chimoye
Fukino, finally
got tired of listening to ridiculous chorus coming from McCain/Palin supporters
and he
went to personally inspect the original birth certificate.

Fukino said she and the registrar of vital statistics, Alvin Onaka, have
personally verified
that the health department holds Obama's original birth certificate.

Therefore, I as Director for the State of Hawai'i, along with the Registrar of
Vital Statistics
who has statutory authority to oversee and maintain these type of vital
records, have
personally seen and verified that the Hawai'i State Department of Health has
Sen. Obama's
original birth certificate on record in accordance with state policies and
procedures,
Fukino said.

Fukino said that no state official, including Gov. Linda Lingle, ever
instructed that Obama's
certificate be handled differently from any other.

Will this satisfy the skeptics out there in McCain-land? Of course not. I mean,
really,
Chimoye Fukino? What kind of name is that? Sounds even worse than Barack
Hussein
Obama. No, no, they'll tell you. Something's fishy. Isn't it suspect that
Obama's
grandmother just happened to break her hip and get sick just as this latest in
a seemingly
never-ending series of bogus lawsuits was running its course? No, something
nefarious is
lurking just under the surface. If it takes the Palin/McCain mob the next eight
years to find
it, by golly, they will.

Complexity? Stealing from one side to give to another? Seems pretty simple to
me. Electing a president with no past or birth certificate for that matter.

If he is elected it will save me hundreds of dollars a year. It will be the end
all charitable contributions let the socialist government take care of
everything and everyone. Since he hates the American flag it won't be in front
of my house while he is in there. He will never represent me and when the
country is attacked, challenged, blown up by a foreign power let it be. If it
was predicted by Joe Biden you know it has to be true.

Jump on the bandwagon, check you brain at the door, and get ready for a
depression. I will agree there will be change. Big change and the obesity
epidemic we have will be gone by the time he gets swept out of office.

I think the bigger problem is that we live our lives via soundbytes that we
 hear on TV.
We have dumbed ourselves down to the point where a 10 to 60 second piece of
information is all we need to form an opinion. If you like FOX news, and you
 hear
somebody say Obama is a socialist then you believe it.
There's also a big problem, in my opinion, with the overabundance of 24/7
 news
outlets. I
believe that people are dumbed down to the point of not realizing that most,
 if not all
have an agenda, and are being used for propaganda. MSNBC's morning shows tend
 to
favor McCain just like FOX. They all have some kind of agenda, although I
 find CNN and
BBC to be the least partisan.
We also tend to let others do the thinking for us. We sit our asses on our
 couches and
let
others tell us what's right and wrong. Our own desire to create a convenient
 lifestyle is
part of our downfall. It shows up in our waist bands as well as our knowledge
 of the
world.
And, it's no wonder that our kids test scores are low compared to the rest of
 the world,
because entire generations have been raised on soundbytes and distractions.
Kids in America who are doing their homework on computers are constantly
 distracted
by
text messages, IMs, Facebook, myspace and on and on. And when they aren't
 doing
that,
they are watching TV that brings them the world in a face paced edited way. I
 recently
heard a report on NPR in which a worldwide study was done to see if
 multitasking helps,
or hurts kids. Overwhelmingly the conclusion is that it hurts them, because
 it doesn't
allow
connections to be made or acquired knowledge to sink in. But kids think they
 are better
and smarter because they can multitask, which is a false idea.

Obama has pushed a campaign that says CHANGE. He has different Tax numbers as
he talks throughout the campaign. 250K,200k,150k,42k. But know one catches it
because they refuse to open their mind buy watching all news channels. I watch
them all and Fox News promotes both sides with speakers from both sides. No
other channel does this constantly every hour. If anyone condemns a news
channel and does not WATCH IT AND LISTEN, then they only want to hear what they
want to hear. That is not a knowledgeable voter. That is not intelligent.
Instead of thinking , they just want to fight. That is what Obama wants.

I don't think McCain or Palin have personally fueled the racist fire, but
 some of their
supporters definitely have. I also applaud McCain for confronting people at
 his events
that
have suggested that Obama is a Muslim.

To that point, it really disturbs me about how many Americans got caught up
 in the
Muslim rhetoric, and furthermore, it's terrible that in doing so, it branded
 the whole
Muslim religion as bad for those who wish to think so, which is a horrible
 thing for our
citizens to to. I bet a vast majority of these people don't know a single
 thing about the
 Muslim religion.

At the same time, there are people attending McCain/Palin events that are
 putting out
 racist thoughts. Here's an example...listen to the guy at 23 seconds in;

 http://www.youtube. com/watch? v=zRqcfqiXCX0

And, if you search on youtube for McCain, racism, you'll see lot's more, and
 it's
disgusting.
There was a video in which a guy actually looked right at the camera and
 called Obama
an
N word, but fortunately it was removed from YouTube. I was going to post it
 here
 Tommy didn't believe it existed.

But, you don't just have to use the N word to stir the racist fire. Watch
 that whole video
above. Watch as what appears to be a nice old lady starts off with her racist
 statement.
This is something that invalidates the concept that America is the greatest
 country on
 earth

When I was younger, I used to believe that. Then I spent years of my life
 living and
working overseas, only to come home to a country where racism is alive and
 well, and
that
includes things said by the Rev. Wright, but, for me, it's easy to see where
 his brand of
racism came from, because his race has been horribly abused right up into
 this century,
and finally we are starting to see that go away, slowly but surely, and the
 nomination of
 Obama is proof.

Old Black people playing the system? When did WE ever play the
system and please dignify that! For 450 years people of African
descent, were held in bondage, described as 3/5ths of a person,
according to the Constitution, uneducated on purpose, because those
who managed to learn rebelled against being property, as though a
head of cattle! You call that, playing the system? I'll repeat
again, if you have a 450 year Head Start, when will we catch up?

I find your post, negative, and not being Black yourself, wouldn't
know what we feel or have experienced. There are millions of Blacks
in this country who have played by the rules, gone to school, served
this country in times of war and not, had their children educated and
wanted the American Dream, while there are over 2 million Blacks
incarcerated in American prisons, while being only 12% of the population.

So explain to me, while whites wrap themselves in the American Flag,
don't serve or try to get out of serving, then think of only
themselves as patriots, as though patriotism cones in only one color?
Is that the 9-11 effect where only police and firemen are patriots?
I don't think so!

Where is the so-called fairness and equality? John McCain's family
has played the system, allowing America to educate them for free for
100 years, attending the Naval Academy for free! He became a prisoner
of war, because his flights bombed Vietnamese people! He is no hero
that I can recall! He was a hotdogger, who went on R and R after
his fellow Navy men were killed by his plane, then got himself
transferred to another ship! Google it and see!

In general, contemporary social democrats support:

Government bodies that regulate private enterprise in the interests

 Support for immigration and multiculturalism.

he represented in the senate. He believes that it is a good thing to disarm

It will be a close election since ACORN is now Blatantly telling people to vote

this also mean that if someone registered to be a Republican voter they put him

ProPublica writes, paraphrasing Donovan, Donovan said that at
rallies for all the candidates, the Secret Service sometimes
separates the press corps that is credentialed to cover the event—
known as the pool—from the general public. That is for logistical and
security reasons, he said.

The reception had been better in Clearwater, where Palin, speaking

Another attempt to get people to think about perception, how
unreliable we are at it, how we are manipulated emotionally, react
emotionally instead of rationally etc. Less far out there than the
consciousness stuff. What is it they say about the unexamined life?

The Behavioral Revolution
By DAVID BROOKS

Roughly speaking, there are four steps to every decision. First, you
perceive a situation. Then you think of possible courses of action.
Then you calculate which course is in your best interest. Then you
take the action.

Over the past few centuries, public policy analysts have assumed that
step three is the most important. Economic models and entire social
science disciplines are premised on the assumption that people are
mostly engaged in rationally calculating and maximizing their
self-interest.

But during this financial crisis, that way of thinking has failed
spectacularly. As Alan Greenspan noted in his Congressional testimony
last week, he was shocked that markets did not work as anticipated.
I made a mistake in presuming that the self-interests of
organizations, specifically banks and others, were such as that they
were best capable of protecting their own shareholders and their
equity in the firms.

So perhaps this will be the moment when we alter our view of
decision-making. Perhaps this will be the moment when we shift our
focus from step three, rational calculation, to step one, perception.

Perceiving a situation seems, at first glimpse, like a remarkably
simple operation. You just look and see what's around. But the
operation that seems most simple is actually the most complex, it's
just that most of the action takes place below the level of awareness.
Looking at and perceiving the world is an active process of
meaning-making that shapes and biases the rest of the decision-making
chain.

Economists and psychologists have been exploring our perceptual biases
for four decades now, with the work of Amos Tversky and Daniel
Kahneman, and also with work by people like Richard Thaler, Robert
Shiller, John Bargh and Dan Ariely.

My sense is that this financial crisis is going to amount to a
coming-out party for behavioral economists and others who are bringing
sophisticated psychology to the realm of public policy. At least these
folks have plausible explanations for why so many people could have
been so gigantically wrong about the risks they were taking.

Nassim Nicholas Taleb has been deeply influenced by this stream of
research. Taleb not only has an explanation for what's happening, he
saw it coming. His popular books Fooled by Randomness and The Black
Swan were broadsides at the risk-management models used in the
financial world and beyond.

In The Black Swan, Taleb wrote, The government-sponsore d
institution Fannie Mae, when I look at its risks, seems to be sitting
on a barrel of dynamite, vulnerable to the slightest hiccup.
Globalization, he noted, creates interlocking fragility. He warned
that while the growth of giant banks gives the appearance of
stability, in reality, it raises the risk of a systemic collapse —
when one fails, they all fail.

Taleb believes that our brains evolved to suit a world much simpler
than the one we now face. His writing is idiosyncratic, but he does
touch on many of the perceptual biases that distort our thinking: our
tendency to see data that confirm our prejudices more vividly than
data that contradict them; our tendency to overvalue recent events
when anticipating future possibilities; our tendency to spin
concurring facts into a single causal narrative; our tendency to
applaud our own supposed skill in circumstances when we've actually
benefited from dumb luck.

And looking at the financial crisis, it is easy to see dozens of
errors of perception. Traders misperceived the possibility of rare
events. They got caught in social contagions and reinforced each
other's risk assessments. They failed to perceive how tightly linked
global networks can transform small events into big disasters.

Taleb is characteristically vituperative about the quantitative risk
models, which try to model something that defies modelization. He
subscribes to what he calls the tragic vision of humankind, which
believes in the existence of inherent limitations and flaws in the
way we think and act and requires an acknowledgement of this fact as a
basis for any individual and collective action. If recent events
don't underline this worldview, nothing will.

If you start thinking about our faulty perceptions, the first thing
you realize is that markets are not perfectly efficient, people are
not

Go over the day's posts. I never personalize. I never call anyone
posting here any names or claim they have personal shortcomings.

I will say they are wrong on an issue, but I make it a conscious point
to not personalize.

Now look at what is said of me - not my views, but me personally.

Not complaining, just observing.

Political discussions usually deteriorate to that. People tie all
that they are to politics, forgetting it's just a tiny part of us and
so much more to enjoy about us.

Not many people can resist personalizing.

Give it a try. Folks get to the end of a discussion when they don't
personalize.

The Race Question At Asbury Park

Asbury Park, NJ July 14 - The colored people here are not as indignant as was
supposed
over the action of James A. Bradley in arranging a separate bathing ground for
them. The
members of the Afro-American League, who were active in the movement to hold a
meeting tonight, in which Mr. Bradley was to be strongly denounced, found but
little
sympathy, and the whole thing ended in a fizzle.

This evening the colored people denounced the hot-headed persons who talked of
holding the indignation meeting. After conferring together, the leaders of the
colored
people decided that Mr. Bradley's action was justified by the circumstances,
and there
will be no trouble here over the race question.

First off, I believe the selling point was that we will be bailing
out people, not just banks.

Think even further in the bank's position. Why do it all? Why not
take the homes and let the market rebound?

If you think I'm off base, remember that's not a hypo. It's real
life. The bank I spoke to today not only vetoed my guy's loan, but
everyone's. They won't involve themselve in the program.

So my point is - this was a bunch of brou-ha-ha over nothing. Right
now no one's getting bailed out, and the people are at the mercy of
the banks as usual.

Does it really make sense NOT to give the bank veto power. In a

I'm tinkering with Google's shared Calendar.

http://www.asburybo ardwalk.com/ calendar. htm

Yes, there are many calendar apps out there, but let's see if this
works. Go the link above.

You'll be able to see any event added to the calendar.

To add events (free...)

1. Lower right hand corner is the Google Button. Click it.

IF YOU HAVE A GOOGLE ACCOUNT

- then sign in with your google account or create a new one if want
to have a different one for this service.

IF YOU DON'T HAVE GOOGLE ACCOUNT

- then you can sign up with Google and become enabled to add events.

NOTE: You may have to send me an email with Google email address to
get permissons even though I have it set to public.

It's an experiment. Try it. It's free and you can use it to promote
your events, yard sales, public meetings, dinner specials...

And the mighty goog takes care of the rest.

2008-09-20 Thread Rock Musician
It would not be this way in wall street right now , If the Ceo's the top
executives and all other owners of these companies were responsible for the
debt that was killing there company. Right now The corporations that are
folding and they are walking away with billions of dollars , Mansions and
everything that goes with it. They should be walking away with NOTHING No Loop
holes or anything --- They should loose it ALL.

The law has to be changed. They should be 100% Liable for the corporation
they run. They get paid way too much money, claiming that it is what they are
worth. Scaling their worth on how many people they Employ. Well now they are
employing people. If they rape the company for billions and are in the red,
they take it from the employed people. Pay cuts, Benefit cuts, etc.. and or
including folding the company. But they still get billions. Wow , what a
business!
I think I am going to buy a company that makes 1 million a year. I will pay
myself 2 million a year, Cut everything I can from my employees AND FOLD THE
BUSINESS. I will walk with 2 million and the company, employees  will  be shit
outta luck.    ( I have worked for 2 corporations that have gone this
route. )The last corp. I worked for, I made friends with the CEO. I played the
game for severance pay. He told me that this is what he does for a living--
Buying and Folding.  Because the law allows it. Well now they are all doing it.

on Wall St. Meltdown

I just couldn't keep quiet anymore, watching the newscasters
struggle with the Wall St. meltdown, which yes is relevant to Asbury
Park and any community that has to borrow money. So here it is.

OKay, I'm no financial genius, but...

I've been interviewing quants - rocket science level financial
geniuses - for years now about how they create the complex
securities that have enriched a generation of Wall St. elites. And
I've always wondered how anyone could predict what the chain
reaction of a collapse of this hugely complex, global market would
look like? Ironically, a lot of these instruments are bought to
reduce the risk of other investments failing. In credit derivatives,
they may start with a simple credit situation - like a mortgage - a
buyer and debt holder. But the investments that are sliced and
diced, reshuffled and morphed into new complex instruments would be
impossible to identify from the original source.

It's like some older people I've met who are taking 18 meds a day.
What doctor can really monitor the interactions of all those complex
compounds on a living changing entity. Not a bad analogy really.
(Alot of people are going to have more trouble paying for those
meds.)

Now for what drove me to post this on an otherwise Asbury Park
focused site:
The current administration keeps refering to the mortgage industry
as having caused this Wall St. collapse. But the institutions that
offer mortgages - so far - have not been the ones to fall. Yes, WaMu
and a few other mortgage lenders are on the brink. But commercial
banks are doing fine. Sovereign Bank, certainly Bank of America!
aren't in trouble. It's the investment banks that deal in those
structured products that are being bailed out or forced into
marriage.
There's more and I'd like to know what you think. It's at
www.asburyradio. com
Thanks for reading...
Maureen

No. I did not call their evangelism offensive. I was offended that
the mission was not offering shelter unless homeless men converted to
their faith. That is more like the crusades or the Spanish
inquisition than evangelism. I think forcing your faith on people is
wrong. That is my opinion. I think not helping people who need help
unless they join your faith is inexcusable.

There are many fine programs run by faith based groups that help all
people who need them. If that were the case here then the group's
faith would have never entered my conversation or thoughts.

If you read my post again then you might see that the turning out of
those who did not convert without help or referrals lead to a safety
issue. This was not a simple issue. There were many concerns about
the practices of the mission. Their faith was not the issue it was
their practice of truly helping only those who embraced it.

 What's the story, Paul?

  Tommy,
It wasn't a fight against any religion per se. What I believe
Paul
is referring to is the lack of a real program to treat the
 addictions
and/or psychological problems that are often present in some
 homeless
populations. The mission described their treatment on their
earlier web page as requiring the men to sleep on the sanctuary
floor, accept the faith of the mission (which was non-
 denominational
christian). So if you were a Jew, Buddhist, Catholic, Jainist,
Baptist, Atheist or anything else you had to accept the mission's
religious doctrine in order to stay inside the mission.
To me this is offensive. I also don't see how it helps. It is
one
thing for a person to choose a faith and that can help with other
issues, but on an icy cold winter day many may be forced to
convert
(or pretend to) in order to stay warm. There is also the issue
of
 no
other programs for their population. They would simply turn the
 ones
who did not sleep on the sanctuary floor and convert out onto the
  streets to find their way.
In my opinion, it was that practice that made the mission seem
 quite
dangerous to both the residents of the city and the men who they
would shelter, but not provide additional referrals or assistance
 to
  their underlying needs.

rich and have a rich trophy wife! I call her Mrs. Plastic!

I was at the Stone Pony with my kid Wed night and the Fireworks on the beach
were awsome. Thank you Asbury Park. I love sharing moments like that with my
kids. Its a memory you never forget.

More recently, didnt they make a commitment to have the entire
beachfront done by Memorial Day? Its almost Labor Day.

Interesting indeed!  A lot of things were sopose to be done by Memorial
Day. Then they pushed things back till July 4th weekend.  The set back was
due to delays due to approvals and what not?  I think they overestimated the
amount of work and the time table they gave.  Even with the extra weeks added,
everything is still unfinished.
