Re: [Audiogames-reflector] Injustice Gods Among Us. More accessible than before.
Re: Injustice Gods Among Us. More accessible than before. Alas, reasonable and cost effective do not match up more often than not. Mobile devices arent their primary vehicle for distribution. If such were the case, you would have seen a different experience than what is currently offered on the iOS platform. Its got the characters, some of the specials, but it isnt the same. Personally, I think it was more of a WB prodding them to make a port to try to grab revenue from the mobile market. This isnt a bad thing just that when a big company asks a developer it owns to put eggs in the basket that isnt said developers forte, you will get something less than youd expect. Re: sun java on ubuntu 13.04 and coffy mud Hi:CoffeeMud will work fine with OpenJDK; thats how Ive always ran it. Note that you need to modify the setup shell scripts slightly, as Ubuntu doesnt keep javac in the standard place. But once you make that 2 line change, everything should work OK. The only other fiddly bit is getting drivers for PostgreSQL or MySQL or whatever database driver you want to use installed and working. But google will help you. Re: [Audiogames-reflector] Dingoo a380: An awesome gaming device
Re: Dingoo a380: An awesome gaming device It is not possible to make a screen reader that works for all emulators and can read the menus of games, short of really good OCR and some sort of statistical model that tries to figure out which one is selected. This is hard, objectively speaking; even the best programmers in the world would have to spend some time on it. Writing a screen reader that can, on a case-by-case basis, read the games for some platform depends on the platform in question, the emulator in question, and the game in question. Realize that platforms dont provide operating system, that all the platform sees from the game is a stream of pixels, and that every game literally has completely different code for drawing to the screen. On a platform that provides built-in font support, you might have some luck, but not much even then-each game represents the selected menu item differently, too. If we are going to suddenly start having old console game accessibility, thats p robably still 5 or 10 years away, and will be the side effect of things like the Google Car that further the field of machine learning and artificial intelligence; I say this because the menus are only the tip of the iceberg, and you basically need software that can either re represent the game in a blind-friendly manner or provide spoken feedback (Go left, go left!).URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=150529#p150529 ___ Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com http://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector
Re: [Audiogames-reflector] symbolic representation of disabilities, what do you think?
Re: symbolic representation of disabilities, what do you think? Well Casta it is certainly true that language changes according to environment and culture, and those in a given group will either consciously or unconsciously adopt the mannerisms of that culture, (at least if they identify with it). With blind people its not the enthusiasm Ive noticed, so much as its application, heck Ive met plenty of fairly enthusiastic sighted people too. The voice is slightly thicker, speech patterns tend to be over emphasized and often the person speaks louder, usualy accompanied by some rather strange body postures that alter the speech and are generally affected rather than natural. In the other extreme the person speaks in short sentences, with little to no vocal modulation and the same thickening of speech. Here the person has no ability say to engage conversationally, and is often very silent, and when they do speak its often more slowly and affectedly. These are generally the too extremes, I suppose t hey correspond to intravertion and extravertion when seen through the lense of blindness. Of course not all! blind people fall into this mould, or even all in said communities, but enough do to make me believe its a sort of generalized thing.Myself I just put it down to people not acquiring conversational cskills or emotional sense, and then interacting only with people who have the same outlook on life, after all the more different sorts of people you can be comfortable communicating with, the less closed in your speech patterns will be.Ironically, one thing I have noticed is that comparatively few people who have grown up with the blind community view in the Uk tend to get into audio games, since even those who are itnerested enough to try a game or two dont have the motivation to go out and find more games, much less go and discuss games on a forum like this one, --- same goes for pretty much any other none blind activity Ive never encountered anyo ne from that blind drama group I mention doing the real thing. Ironically about the only blind leasure organization I found decent were what used to be called guide dog holidays, and who then changed to vitalise, (though sadly theyve now shut down), and that mainly because if your going to wander off to somewhere like griece or egypt, or go to the french alps and skee, well you cant expect to just encounter that familiar set of blindy friends, and guess what, you might have! to do some things for yourself once in a while, and still worse, do them in a none prescribed manner . Sadly though that organization finished, and that was the last blind related thing I really got involved with, and even then, only when they were going off somewhere interesting. Then again, the guide dog association is about the only Blind related agency i have much re spect for as well, mostly because unlike the rnib they do! have a reasonable view of a blind persons capabilities, indeed, this might well be the chief reason for the cleaquism, since you cant really blaime someone for just descending into their little blind hole if theyre told constantly that they cant cope in the real world unless! they follow the rules, in fact it is the rules! was my specialist schools motto, . The sad fact is it is slightly understandable, since yes, being blind is a pain in the arse and people arent always nice about this, but for me at least if the alternative is just to sit at my parents and skype other blind people all day, meeting up once every six months at the blind gathering, well Id rather make my own way, hard as it sometimes is.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=150531#p150531 ___ Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com http://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector

[Audiogames-reflector] Upcoming technology for game music rendering
Upcoming technology for game music rendering Hi all!I have been rather silent for the last few months, and the reason for this is that I have been incredibly busy. I and a colleague of mine, Kristofer Eng who is a professional composer and musician, have been working on an engine that makes video game music as dynamic and adaptable as a film score. The only difference, of course, is that the player is the one controlling the music in real-time. In short, the system we are developing allows the music to follow the players every action to create a completely dynamic score. We are now going towards a 1.0 release, and so I wanted to show an audio demonstration of what the engine is able to accomplish at this time. Of course I wont be able to go through all the details of it since it is a rather complex system, but the demonstration I am giving will hopefully give you an idea of what to expect when the 1.0 version is released in the first quarter of 2014.The audio demonstration can be found at:http://www.eliassoftware.com/audio/elias_audio_demo.mp3Elias stands for Elastic Integrated Audio System. The website is not yet created, but the system is fully functional and we are spending the remaining development time fine tuning and optimizing the functionality and performance. The engine is cross platform, and is intended to work on anything from desktop computers to consoles to smartphones. We are planning a licensing scheme where you are able to use the engine for free for non-commercial projects, and if you are a small independent developer we will have a very inexpensive shareware license available. We will also offer add-ons such as ready to use music themes composed to suit the characteristics of the engine, as well as professional one-on-one support.Kristofer and I would be very happy to hear your thoughts, feedback, suggestions, questions, etc. We are open to new ideas, and we hope that the system will set a new standard for how music is rendered in mainstream and audio games alike.Thank you for reading!Kind regards,Philip BennefallURL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=150541#p150541 ___ Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com http://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector
Re: [Audiogames-reflector] symbolic representation of disabilities, what do you think?
Re: symbolic representation of disabilities, what do you think? ive noticed this to with blind people here in the USA dark. blind people tend to speak really loudly. also they tend to have rather bad body postures/manorisms. holding ones head really far back so there face is almost facing the ceiling, or or holding there head down like there looking at there hands in there lap all the time. i have just enough vision to just pick up on those things and it was kind of interesting. this one girl i saw went from examining the ceiling tiles with a great interest to examining her pants with equal interest and back then to the ceiling a few minutes later. a second girl i know did a lot of rocking back and forth. i have no idea why she did this, i never got around to asking her, but one would think should would get a bit dizzy eventually. both of these girls tended to speak in a louder than normal voice like it was out side and they needed to speak over something going on like a busy road or someth ing but it was inside in a calm setting where a normal voice would have been very sufficient. this isnt limited to females though, i have seen this in guys too.i would agree with you dark that this does stem from being around blind people to much. not that that is a bad thing, but when the blind people cant see you and cant correct things you do that arent exactly normal, you are never going to learn. and it has also been in my experience that the parents of the blind person dont really try to correct there kids either because they are more of the disposition that let me just send my blind kid off to a blind school because i dont know how to deal with them because that is what those blind schools are for right? blind people. then the kids dont really learn what is and isnt socially exceptable. and have a hard time inta grating into normal society. there is always going to be a nd exception to the rule, so i know that this isnt all the time what is going to happen, but it does happen more often than not, unfortunately. im not condoning these practices, however, just pointing out what ive experienced in my opinion.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=150542#p150542 ___ Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com http://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector

Re: Upcoming technology for game music rendering Whoa, this sounds really cool!I just finished the audio demo you provided.Im very interested to hear the next demo with examples of exploration and some of the other features you couldnt include in this one.I was very impressed though.Obviously it takes extra work to create music that the engine can utilize but I was glad to hear you will provide an authoring tool and also that its a C API so I can call it from my existing game engine.A quick question:You said: if you are a small independent developer we will have a very inexpensive shareware licenseI say: What do you mean by shareware license? Does that mean games I release using your engine need to be shareware?I think your free option for free games is very generous of you.I really hope this can catch on in the main stream video game market as well. Re: [Audiogames-reflector] Upcoming technology for game music rendering
Re: Upcoming technology for game music rendering Hi Ian,Thank you very much for your feedback and kind words! Im really glad you enjoyed the demo. The way the shareware license works is that, if you want to make games as a private individual or a very small business, you dont have to pay the same amount for a commercial license as a big budget game studio would. If you make free games then the engine is also free and you dont have to buy a license, but if you want to make commercial games that are distributed on a small scale through your own website then you would want the shareware license. You certainly dont have to sell anything if you dont want to, and if thats the case then you dont pay anything either.Kind regards,Philip BennefallURL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=150544#p150544 ___ Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com http://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector

Re: Furby: A cool toy which blind kits also would enjoy As I can remember, my furby didnt speak very much in english at the beginning.I think I was lucky, because usually the furbies doesnt speak any english words when you play for the first time with them. This think is availaible for the 90s one, the furby which appeared in 2005 does know some english at the start, but not very much. You have to speak with him in english in order to teach him.If you want furby to learn new words / frazes, you have to teach him. You look in the dictionary for the furbish word and the english one, and then try to teach him.You have to say the furbish word first, and after the english one.I dont know how much can this thing learn, I didnt teach him very much to be onest. And about this new furby, I dont know very much apart what Ive already read on the internet.I also had a baby furby too, but it isnt very smart. Re: Freedom Scientific Gets a New CEO So I finished the podcast, and I still cant get over the jarring incongruity of a CEO who honestly believes that the answer to software patents is to license them properly, as opposed to just acknowledging that theyre simply wrong, while at the same time claiming to be pro-customer, that they have a PR issue that they need to sort out, that they need to be more responsible for the critical software that they produce, and that the high-quality products and new technology opportunities will make FS a respected and respectable company. And yes, he seems to think that IPR lawsuits and high prices are totally OK and not a problem, and that our appreciation of them will come with the price well be prepared to pay for this Value.I dont know. Re: Street Fighter III - 3rd Strike MUGEN WIP Your Welcome. Here are the main differences so far:Dan from the Alpha series is in this game, whereas he is not in the original game whatsoever. He appears as a boss.Shadow Lady, a cyberg version of Chun-Li from Marvel Vs. Capcom also steps into the tournament alongside Dan. She appears as a boss as well. Her stage is a black recolor of Chun-Lis regular stage.Evil Ken, an original character made exclusively in MUGEN, is also in the game.Maybe include Evil Ryu?The game is slightly faster pased than the original.Originally, Shin Akuma wasnt going to appear in the game, but due to popular demand on the Mugen Fighters Guild forums, I reluctantly decided to put him in as a CPU-only character that you can only play as via random fighter at the character select screen. He shares this status with Dan and Shadow Lady.Twelve can only transform into either Ken or Sakura, even though the latter isnt in the original SF3.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=150561#p150561 ___ Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com http://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector

Re: [Audiogames-reflector] converting tabs-sheet music into ABC notation
Re: converting tabs-sheet music into ABC notation Im not 100% positive of this, but tableture should be able to be read by notation software made accessible byDancing Dots.Dancing Dots made Lime, a notation software/editor to read, review, edit, and create scores.I am currently using it, and am findig it very simple to learn and very easy to use. Review is very simple. All functionality is made accessible to the blind community through Jaws scripts, called Lime Aloud. Note that you do need Jaws, not NVDA.However, Lime is not free. If you do purchase it, you receive a bundle package of SharpEye, a scanning software so you may scan print scores and review that way, Goodfeel, a braille viewer that allows you to review scores with a braille display, and of course, Lime with Lime Aloud.Any inquiries, use the link above and go to the Products section, where youll find Lime.Additionally, try looking at Sibelius 5.2.5.This also requires Jaws, but you can get the scripts free of charge atraisedbar.netIts also good to know that Sibelius is probably cheaper if you pay with a discount, but I dont know what will get the job done easier.Im using Lime, not Sibelius, so Ill hopefully answer any questions you may have.I delved into this because as of now, thats the only way you can really read scores. Re: [Audiogames-reflector] Freedom Scientific Gets a New CEO
Re: Freedom Scientific Gets a New CEO Hi.Yes, I agree fully with Thomas Ward. There is no need for any of these companies to continue anymore. None of them, gw, Freedom Scientific, Dolphin something I think, etc.We have NVDA for windows, VoiceOver for the Mac and Orca for Linux. I havnt played with linux much, probably should. But yes, I agree. I think sooner or later the majority of people is going to realize that these outragous prices are unnecessary when there are much cheaper or free alternatives that do pretty much the same thing. While I can understand that companies should receive something in return for their work, I dont think accessibility is one of them.If they must insist on charging that much, why not charge lower? I believe it would allow more people to buy the product and give the company more money. But I will not support paying for accessibility anymore. Not when Apple developes that kind of stuff with their mainstream products.Well, that s enough, Im off on another rant again.Sorry.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=150570#p150570 ___ Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com http://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector

Re: Making Chiptunes? Thank you so very much for asking! I use a program called FamiTracker, which is a free portable Windows sound tracker used for creating music using the NES sound chip, the 2A03. Trackers are my prefered method of writing music, because its really hard when you first try it, but it gets easy when you get the hang of it. Other people that I know have made chiptunes alongside myself, such as Hally, a chiptune artist from Japan, my good friend RushJet1, and Naruto, another Japanese chiptune artist. If you want me to explain more about FamiTracker, let me know, and Ill try my best.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=150571#p150571 ___ Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com http://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector

Re: [Audiogames-reflector] braillemone a pokemon port for visually impaired players
Re: braillemone a pokemon port for visually impaired players Hi again daigonite,I was playing around with the TMs, and it seems that its not letting me use them on Pokemon that can actually learn the move. i tried giving Pikachu to learn Thunder, but it said that it couldnt learn Thunder. When i tried to teach Farfeched Steel wing, and for some odd reason, my whole team could learn that move, even Pokemon who didnt have wings. haha. A rhydon that can use steel wing is pretty cool.Another thing i found out is, some pokemon could learn moves that do not belong in their movelists. My blastoice learned wing attack after i gave him a rare candy.Keep up the awesome work though. You rock! And, so does the game, so far.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=150575#p150575 ___ Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com http://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector
