Re: android or Iphone?

Well, if you want a simple interface, get an iPhone. If you wanna custumize your phone, get lots of different voices and if you don't wanna be restricted on what you can do, get an Android. The iPhone seems to run more stable, but I don't have experiences enough with Android to argument on that.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=157925#p157925

a year ago I would have said iPhone. a year ago I did not have a nexus 7 to play with. In fact, accessibility is at  point now where I'm honestly considering a nexus 5. Over all I find the interface better. If you don't mind hunting around for apps that may or may not be accessible, like being able to customize your phone, not having to use iTunes, then droid is for you. Regarding the apps thing though, I think its fair to say that this holds true for both platforms. Over all you'll probably find droids to be cheaper if you choose to do the outright option. Also, updates to talkback happened often, with public! Access to the betas. This is coming from someone who's used both platforms.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=157929#p157929

Re: Gauging interest about classic Dr Who series audio described

I actually didn't know 4shared was even still going, I thought they'd gone the way of rapidshare and hotfile. Myself, I'm much more interested in the original novelizations. From what I've read the  new adventures range went sort of off the rales, particularly with the 8th doctor, which is one reason why Bf's is now far more officially cannon especially with his Era since between amnesia, random companions who suddenly turn into tardises Gallifrey getting destroyed and reformed about ten times, the Daleks suddenly proving to be faking just about everything we ever know about them in some gigantic conspiracy that seemed to have no point at all, and other such randomness the hole thing just seems to disappear into a big confusing singularity!of course I might be a little too hard here as I've only really encountered the new adventures and such tangentially through the detailed synopses on the Dr. who reference guide and the various big finis
h nods to their plot especially in early offerings and the burnese summerfield series, (which I confess isn't much of a favourite of mine almost expressly because! it is sort of wrapped up with the novels). Though i get the idea that these days Bf are trying to make things saner and other than some obscure references for die hard fans of the novels are trying to stand on their own more and leave the confusion behind, especially now the new adventures range has finished publication. Indeed, given the references to the 8th doctor's companions in night of the doctor and the showing of the early hostilities in the time war in Gallifrey chronicles, I gather the audios are pretty much absolutely cannon with the tv series, or at least the sane, none steven mophat ruined bits of the tv series, though that is another topic entirely .Either way, if anyone has t
he novelizations of the original audios, I'd be interested in reading them even in pdf, and if anyone has audio described Dr. who let me know as well.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=157934#p157934

Re: The new Winrar: Be very carefull!

Well  Raygrote, zip is a fairly universal format which is why most people use it, other formats compress more but require different programs to handle. I've heard for example that the full version of winrar can handle 7zip's own 7z format while obviously 7zip can handle rar, however for zip you need nothing, at least on windows, which is why if I'm sending someone an archive I tend to use zip rather than 7z even though 7z is much more efficient.7zip has a comparrison on it's own site of compression wrates, though obviously that needs taking with a bit of a pinch of salt. I'm also not sure if 7zip can create multi part archives the way rar can, though I've not investigated it's full control panel and options too much since I just usually use the windows explorer options to select what properties I need for my archive. Either way, 7zip is awsome, it's a shame there isn't a version for Mac.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=157936#p157936

Re: Goodbye Windows XP, i still get nistalgic over you.

Moderation! @Josh, instead of posting multiple posts one reply to each person, it's usually better to read the posts on the forum and make one reply, since this makes the posts easier to read. Regarding  ms office, I know there are alternatives, and I know as I said I could get used to windows 7, and I could! run an xp virtual machine. The problem as I've said is all of those things are extra work, and I'm not really sure  why i should bother since I haven't found anything good in windows 7 that I'd actually want! to use the os for. @Conner, no, you won't be instantly unable to use software after april the 8th. It will depend upon how the software is made and whether it either uses components that can't be run on xp or requires higher computer specifications than can be  used on an xp machine. This might happen with some things at some point, albeit I'd have expected it to be a far more frequent occ
urrance by now, indeed Avg 13 is the only instance I've encountered myself and that was a ram issue rather than a lack of support. Then of course there are people still developing in languages like vb6 that are xp specific simply because that is what they are comfortable with in programming terms, and again microsoft doesn't give a rats rear about this and has dropped support to try and force people to buy their new stuff even if it means learning a new programming language. This is again though why I  suspect the biggest change will be hardware not software.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=157937#p157937

You can use command-line tools from the p7zip project on OS X, no problem, and there is the above-mentioned Keka which supports fewer formats but does include 7z/LZMA for compression. Also note that 7zip includes a more efficient deflate implementation than that used by zlib; using 7zip to build ZIP files can still result in more efficiently-compressed ZIP files, even if the target has support only for decompression of ZIP using zlib. There is also AdvanceCOMP, which simply includes the 7zip deflate algorithm to recompress your existing zips, which has been surprisingly good.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=157947#p157947

[Audiogames-reflector] Sonic Invaders link?

2013-12-09 Thread AudioGames.net Forum — General Game Discussion: raygrote

Sonic Invaders link?

Hi all,Does anyone remember the game called sonic Invaders? In it, you used the bottom row of keys on the keyboard like z, x, c, v, space, n, m, and comma, as cannons, to shoot oncoming ships. You also had a shield that you used the B key to raise to deflect enemy shots. The game had 40 levels... and had kind of odd orchestral music. I got a few hours of enjoyment out of that game when I had it back a few years ago, but the site has since died. I might still have the setup but wouldn't remember the name, and it's very possible I don't even have it now.Does anyone remember what I'm talking about? I'm hoping someone on here still has it lying around, since in my opinion, it is too awesome to be forgotten. In the world of space invaders audio games, this is definitely one of my favorites, I even liked it better than Troopanum and Alien Outback, which also are both great games but Sonic Invaders is more of a survival space shooter that feels and so
 unds more high tech.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=157955#p157955

As far as I remember, Kc has confirmed that the one watching Burt, Lizzy, and Saul in chapter 5, the one Burt tries to shoot, is Ink... I think they're right at the car trap at that point, or maybe I'm wrong. If they were, though, I'd say it's quite safe to asume that Ink made that trap.Saul being close to the hospital? Re: math in university

Your options as I understand them aren't so great.-First, LaTex.  You can probably learn this, and it will work.  The problem is that you need someone to teach it to you.  I haven't, because no one can teach it to me.  It's a typesetting system used by textbooks.-Second, make up your own notation.  This is on a professor-by-professor basis, of course.  They'll probably accept it for the lower maths: x+3, (x+3)^2, (x+3)/(x+5), etc.  The symbols needed for algebra all exist on the normal computer keyboard; the only thing you don't get is superscripts and subscripts.  I suggest sqrt for square root, +- for plus or minus.  You kind of end up making it up as you go along.I personally still use a scribe.  The second solution can be pushed pretty far but becomes cumbersome, and the first has the problems of the second with the added benefit of needing a teacher in the first place (sort of, you mi
ght be able to get somewhere on your own, but the only way to tell if it's right is to compile it and look). Also, where did you get a braille math textbook for college?URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=157959#p157959

Yeah, I went with the second option. I just used ^ for exponents (and put the exponent in parentheses if it was more than one symbol or something that could be ambiguous in this format).Anything that couldn't otherwise be done with ascii I more or less wrote like a function, like log(x^2), sqrt(x-5), etc.If you could do it as HTML, you could just use tags for [s]exponents[/s] and such, but that seems like more trouble than it's worth.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=157963#p157963

I know what you meant! The Tekken-example was just the best I could think of, at the moment. You are talking about audio as a feedback modality, rather than a simple compliment to the visual. Indeed, the more care a developer puts into their game's audio, the more they focus on senses that arn't just sight, the better for everyone - You guys, in particular. No, we havn't really looked too much into it, as it is more in the game-design catagory of things. Maybe in future!URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=157970#p157970

Re: MAINSTREAM GAMES - list of accessible video games - update 27/08/13

Hey gang. I'm back with another recording... and back on my fighting game mania. lol this is not a traditional fighting game, this is an anime-licensed fighting game in the same style as the Naruto games... but from a much better and more classic franchise, at least in my opinion. Saint seiya is a series that features characters that have powers based on astrology and greek mythology... and so far of what I've seen from the anime, it's an awesome universe. This series was very popular in europe and Latin-America... just not as much in the US for some reason. And of course popular in Japan as well. This isn't one of the fighting games I would try and learn the ins and outs of, mostly because there aren't that many ins and outs to learn like most anime-based fighters. But it does have a lot of modes and customization if that's your thing... though not just appearance. Customization affects gameplay as well, or at least has the potential to. I do recommend this to anyone who doesn't mind a fighting game that isn't complicated as Guilty Gear or Street fighter. Just keep in mind that there is no dub for this game, and it is a ps3 exclusive.https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/339 … ldiers.mp3URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=157977#p157977

Blasting Gd, was your hardcore player signed in at the same time?  The wrapping paper message should warn that the person receiving the gift must be in the same map, and their gift will vanish if they log out or travel to another map.If you were signed in at the same time, then you probably sent the gift before I fixed a small bug.  It was like 6 hours after I added the wrapping paper when I realized that the code for the gifts was going to spawn a traditional loot item, and that hardcore players only see 1 out of every 5 traditional loot items!  I had to adjust that so that it made sure to spawn the correct type, so basically there was an 80% chance the gifts sent to hardcore players wouldn't show up for them.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=157978#p157978

A warning.  Depending on how high you have to go in math, braille may still prove to be the best option.  Such notation works for algebra, but becomes cumbersome when working with, say, calculus--the calculus problems can become multiple braille pages, and arrowing around the expressions is..mm..a life experience.I still want to know how you found a braille algebra book for college and, more important, if I can use that resource myself somehow to get hold of braille calc 3 and differential equations books.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=157979#p157979

My Dad is also saying they use strikes in this art, which, he's seeming to be worried I wouldn't catch them or something. From what I know, Aikido does joint-locks, which can be applied on the ground as well as they can standing up or how-ever. Does anybody have any examples they know of?URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=157984#p157984

Re: Swamp, zombie fps by Aprone

Yeah Aprone, he was on the same map. I wanted to make him a present, but at least it didn't work. Later I picked up an HC-item in sub 3. I had to logout for short ... When I came back I was in the safe zone of map 2 again and I had lost my first few things. I went to the fort, stored the HC-item and gave all my remaining things to a clan mate, because the only way to correct this - for me - is to die. But when I wanted to, there were no zombies, my points didn't work (which I have in speed and health) and after I waited a while, I couldn't move either, although I had 15 food. Logging out and in again didn't help as well. So I tried gd, my normal char, and that one was fine. So I logged in as blaster again and realized that all worked again. Finally I was ready to die! Did I forget anything? Ah yeah, I got the things back from my mate. URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=157990#p157990

LaTeX worked pretty well for me.As typing LaTex and correcting the typos which prevents it from compiling into .pdf file, takes more time , I sent the non compiling LaTeX files to the professors and they didn't have any problem with that. When I did a lot of multiplication stuff, I quite often replaced the \cdot (multiplication sign in TeX) with *.And there were some other signs as well. So it was a kind of mix between option 1 and 2, but the LaTeX was definitely on the dominant side.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=157995#p157995

I think it would be nice to have a more thoroughly thought-out defeat condition. Okay, so one enemy makes it all the way to your base and destroys it! Now if that enemy is Q, that's all well and good. But what if it's a toaster, and you somehow let them through? Surely one lonely toaster couldn't bring down your mighty base! So maybe something like, one enemy has to make it all the way to your base from each of the four sides in order for them to gang up and destroy it. However, once any enemy makes it through, you can't get rid of them, and they make things harder for you by coordinating with their buddies, now that they presumably have access to info about what defenses you have where. Just an idea. Also, I noticed a few bugs, as follows:1. If you close a game and then start a new game without exiting the program, the old game isn't cleared away, enemies, etc. are still there. If you start a new game, it should reinitialize everything.2. I managed to get an enemy, Q in this case, to get stuck. I may or may not still have the battle report, and definitely don't have a save, sorry. Anyway, I think one Q invaded my base from the south, I just couldn't defend against him, had nowhere near enough resources to throw up my own Q, and even the almighty hedge trimmer is no match against this guy. So in he comes, my base is destroyed, game over, except it isn't. In effect, that Q is no more. So along comes another Q, same story. He gets to South 1, and just sits there! He does not come into the base. And since he's at position 1, there's nowhere I can put anyone to get rid of him.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=158009#p158009

Re: bypassing block ports (e.g mudding in restricted networks)

How you get around port blocks depends on the kind of network you are on.If you go through an HTTP proxy, and you know the address, start by testing to see if the proxy will let you connect to arbitrary hosts and ports. To my surprise, many still do, trusting all clients. With telnet connect to the proxy port (telnet host port) and then typeCONNECT host.example.org: HTTP/1.0 followed by a blank line. If you get a response of 200, and then are connected to your MUD, well, you're off to the races. URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=158010#p158010

Re: Gauging interest about classic Dr Who series audio described

@Brad, thanks for the link, but to be honest I'm looking for the classic series. The new series dvds come with audio description by default even on torchwood. I even saw some of them with description on first broardcast if you have a box with the facility, though irritating they haven't done this for a while and expect people to buy the dvds for the description. so I've therefore seen most of the new series described already, well all accept for some of the eleventh doctor ones which I don't own on dvd and which weren't described on broardcast but I care less about those. Since I do like what i can get from the visual elements I prefer to see audio described stuff wwith them than just have the soundtracks for most things, albeit stuff I've either god on dvd or have seen often before such as the lotr films I don't mind.@Dark abomination, Well yes, cannon is quite a debate, albeit I dislike the answer that some people and articles have
of basically "well whatever you want!" as if there is no cannon it makes progressive plot pretty difficult. myself, I just like to go classic series, big finish, new series up to the end of the 10th doctor, and then everything after that is a fevered dream caused by the dark god Stevenus mophula who was released by the return of Gallifrey in the End of time, and has now destroyed the web of time and caused ultimate nonsensical chaos, icnluding a schizophrenic encarnation of the doctor, a complete disregard for causality and a break down in all the laws of physics . Seriously, while I imagine there are some novels that make sense, I do actually think some of the wilder twists are insane enough to actually be, as the audio Zagreus implies, completely different time lines caused by the 8th Doctor's ability to perceive all of the fractured webof time when
he became Zagreus, since some of them are just whacked enough for that explanation to make sense, indeed since the timelords are the guardians of order and maintaining the web of time (something else the evil Mophula has forgotten about), it almost would make sense for anti time as the opposing force to what the Time lords represent to cause the sort of chaos seen in the new adventures.Regarding file sharing, well sendspace is as simple as just using their "uplaod" link on the main page, browsing to the file and hitting upload. Free accounts can upload up to 10 gb, but only files at most 300 mb in size, and stuff well auto delete if it's not downloaded for 30 days. With a paid account you get a lot more, perminant hosting, 1.2 tb of space and files as big as you want as well as super fast downloads and use of the very cool wizard program.I'd rather not sign up on another file sharing service if there is another way around, though if you can just go
on 4shared and download anyway without signing up, feel free to send me a link.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=158011#p158011

Re: [Audiogames-reflector] The new Winrar: Be very carefull!

Re: The new Winrar: Be very carefull!

I'd personally recommend 7zip over winrar myself Hadi having tried both. @Sebby, it's a shame the mac ap store cdistribute an't 7zip to run more conveniently, since in Windows it's the ease of running it as well as it's super compression that makes it so good to use. For example, you can directly compress and E-mail or create new archives just from the windows explorer context menue in zip or 7zip, (and have them auto attached to e-mail if you wish), and the basic "add to archive" function will let you choose other formats as well as things like dictionary size, password and compression wrate. You also have several umcompress option which make dfolder management nice, one personal favourite of mine is the way 7zip can compress to archives labeled with the name of each folder, great for when you've got 10 different zip files all of which you want as a separate folder. As I said, I'm also impressed with how it reports
errors, since it makes checking up if you have one dodgy file in an archive very easy. While winrar was certainly not dreadful to use, it wasn't quite as convenient in terms of  having as much intigration with windows explorer and quickly accessible functions as 7zip.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=158012#p158012

Re: [Audiogames-reflector] forms of accessible martial arts?

Re: forms of accessible martial arts?

Well, that depends on what he means by grappling. BJJ does grappling, yes, but you're right... it is primarily a ground art. Aikido is still very hands on, and later on in the coriculum has throwing and stuff of the sort. One example of an aikido form, in very basic description would be someone grabbling you around the neck from behind... instead of ducking or pulling away, you would grab the opponent's hand and wrist with your right hand while turning to your left to break the hold and begin twisting the wrist in a joint lock. But while you're twisting the wrist you're also keeping your left hand on your opponent's elbow to keep their arm straight and turning them with you which they have to follow unless they're looking for pain... then you bring the arm up over your head with it still alined horrizontally, and bring it forward and down to use their elbow and joint and shoulder as a means of forcing them to the ground.I probably didn't de
scribe it as well as someone with more training could, but that's an example of an Aikido joint lock. And strikes aren't something you have to worry about until later in your training... and if your school is accomidating you, they will probably be willing enough to help you learn how to work with and around them.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=158013#p158013
