Re: How to join a voice channel on Discord in IOS? Hope I'm not too late to this but saw the topic the other day, played around with the app, then endeavored to reply on here but never did. Anyway, it seems like not all buttons work as they should if you flick around and double tap on it, it's probably one of the bugs post 3 referred to. A temporary solution is to go by touch, I've noticed that it works for some reason. If you can get into the voice channel, feel around the bottom right-hand corner of the screen, you'll eventually find a "join" button and tapping on that ought to work. At least it did so for me when I did it instead of flicking to the button. Hope this helps. Reply to posts on the forum using the dictation feature on your phone, only, while keeping your language setting in English, dictate in whatever other language you speak, answering the question, then post the garbled nonsense and wait for responses (as the system would still try to figure out whatever you said as English words). We do have a local streaming service called showmax that has it, but it's not available with audio description. Some Chrome issues Hi, So like many others on here, I decided to move over from Firefox to Chrome recently, mainly due to the former’s slow response in version 57. Everything has been working well until recently, when I started experiencing a few odd issues: Firstly, the alt + left arrow combination, to go back, just stopped working one day, no matter what page I’m on. The best solution I could find was an addon that enables backspace to serve that purpose and it’s working. However, much more concerning is another issue, where I simply cannot interact with text fields any longer. I type something but there’s no way for me to read back anything I’m doing; so as a consequence I’m copying this post from elsewhere just to post, I hope that works. This also worked fine until recently, so my only guess is that an update broke accessibility. Is anyone else having similar problems and is there any kind of solution? This happens right after I saved the download, so in other words, the download carries on as normal but for a while afterwards I can't interact with the browser as normal. Hi, So after getting a new desktop machine, I decided to give Chrome a shot too to see what the hype's all about and I must say, I like the speed thus far, but considering that I've used firefox for about 10 years, I'm still getting used to some of the basic functionality. So I have 2 questions about some small issues I'm experiencing. Firstly, whenever I open Chrome, I get a window that simply reads "untitled window". For as long as this is open, I can't load any pages. I have set it to use google as my homepage and it loads eventually, but is there a way to get rid of this weird untitled thing? I know it's not my internet as I'm fairly sure it shouldn't take more than a minute to load a basic webpage. Secondly, I also tried downloading a few things and every time after I selected to save the file, I get the page I'm on in a window that I cannot interact with, with my screen reader. I found that pressing a lot of random keys, including tab about a million times, eventually fixes it, but it takes me to a random part in the page. Is anyone else also having this and is there a solution? I followed instructions from this website: https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues/2807Basically, run command prompt as administrator, then use the regsvr32 command to register the following 4 files: c:\windows\system32\oleaut32.dll, c:\windows\syswow64\oleaut32.dll, c:\windows\system32\oleacc.dll and c:\windows\syswow64\oleacc.dll I hope this helps someone. Peculiar NVDA/windows 10 issue Hi all, This morning, windows installed updates automatically, after which I ran into a rather odd issue. NVDA stopped working on the internet completely, simply reading Firefox windows as "unknown" and not at all responding in internet explorer. I'm not sure if this directly relates to the newly-installed windows updates or not. Firefox also had a recent update but I could use it just fine up to when the windows updates installed. Is anyone else who uses windows 10 and NVDA experiencing these difficulties? I can weirdly enough work with JAWS 17 just fine. I am using the latest version of NVDA (2017.1). Someone, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I have experienced sleep paralysis as described by Slender in an earlier post, but I think there may be differences between that and what I described earlier, so I'll try and provide more details. This happens somewhere in the middle of the night, maybe a while after I wake from a few hours of sleep. I feel as if I am going back to sleep. Then, all of a sudden, I find myself paralysed. From the amount of times this had happened to me, I can safely say that I can still perceive reality around me; I know I am in bed, in my room, and at times I can even consciously think normal thoughts. But at the same time I can "feel" some kind of presence, either good or bad (mostly the latter) approaching me. It can take various forms, from a human-like figure, to something insectoid to simply a shadow. It would hover close to me, or try and do something (this is different each time). At times it feels as if I can move, though in reality it turns out I don't. People may suggest that this is false awakening, and perhaps it may be, but it still occurs in this half-sleep, half-wake state. I would (for real) wake up from this, perhaps a few minutes later (though it is obviously hard to keep track of time), then experience the same thing about 3 - 4 times before finally falling asleep again. I'm sorry if what I'm trying to describe seems confusing, but it is rather weird things to try putting into words. I have heard that people argue that these "beings" are spirits or the like, but I'm quite a sceptic so not sure if that's the case. I maintain that it's probably just the results of an over-active imagination, though it is still strange to me. Re: Dreams about are reality I find that it's easier lucid dreaming after already sleeping for a few hours. It's interesting and I feel as if I'm gaining more control every time I dream, but it's far from perfect, as what I'm trying to imagine often turns into something bad quickly. For example, I would imagine myself in a peaceful place (a beach or garden), after which I would get attacked by something. Also, as I alluded to in my first post on this topic, I often find myself in a place between waking and sleeping, in which I am paralysed. In this state, it feels as if something is either trying to get close or attack me. It's hard to explain, but I am still on my bed, but just in a place that seems like a warped kind of mirror of my bedroom. I learned with time to use my mind, since I can't physically move, visualising wielding some kind of weapon or creating a kind of "prison" to deal with whatever's attacking me. Weirdly enough, that seems to work. W ould be interesting to know if anyone else experienced something like this, though to be honest I probably just have a weird imagination. Some background: I graduated from high school five years ago, studied towards a 4-year degree at university, and now I'm studying for another one. So my dreams would take place in a place that would be a kind of cross between my high school and university. I end up in classes with old school friends, some of who I haven't seen in five years. Throughout I know that something is wrong, I shouldn't be in high school anymore, I have no reason to attend those kind of classes, yet I do for some strange reason. I even dream at times that I'm doing both simultaneously, not realising that it is not realistically possible, not until much later in the dream anyway. I would tell of other dreams/experiences, especially in between wake fulness and sleep, but perhaps I'll veer off from the original subject, so I'll see what form the discussion takes first. I actually used good old Narrator for quite a long time back when I had XP, and of course it could never access the internet reliably. When I started using NVDA around 2007 I guess it wasn't such a learning curve, but I never knew about browser games back then either. Would be a good suggestion for the next person I find who wants to understand a screen reader better, I guess it adds fun to the learning. Thus, I found it very difficult to get into the books, and not sure if Im ever going to finish them. It is Winter in this part of the world. Though probably not as cold as in places in Europe and the US, this still feels slightly chillier than the last 2 winters. I doubt itll ever snow in the city where I live, but it might do so elsewhere in the country. Now that I am on holiday, Im just relaxing as much as possible, socialising with friends and looking for some new games. A friend and I played Lords and Knights for a rather long time, though that all came to a rather sad ending when, during a war with another alliance, we were defeated. I believe that it is in anger that the worst in us comes out, and thus all rationality normally flies out of the window. As I said, I have done more than my fair share of stupid things in such a state, and when you look back on it, it always seems childish. Just always try to learn as much as you can from your mistakes, understand that we are all just human and can always improve. I cant speak for this soundflower program, but I think people slightly exaggerate VACs complexity; especially for doing something like recording through both your mic and sound card, which is probably one of the easier things to do. Having said that, I would still recommend you try out any of the other alternatives before using VAC. With OBS theres one small thing you would need to adjust (if I remember correctly, it is the screen capture thing) for which you might need the JAWS curser, but aside from that it is accessible as well. As for the audacity suggestion, it might work, though Im not sure if your recording will come out in stereo or not, plus hearing your own voice might become distracting. SoundTap is probably the easiest one; it records in various formats and records both your computer audio and mic pretty well. You can use the demo for two weeks, in which, if I recall correctly, you can do everything you can do in the full version. Then, there is a free program called open broadcaster software. It actually records in video formats, and is meant to record video along with the audio. Yet it does capture audio from your soundcard and mic. Ive been using this recently to record some of my own walk-throughs, which I uploaded to youtube. However, if you simply want the audio, Im sure you can find a program that can convert from mp4 to mp3. Hope this helps. I am however interested how it compares with Ootunes. I also use a lot of apps on my phone, including something called Umano that allows you to listen to interesting articles from various news sources. You can even choose your favorite categories. I have to agree on KNFB reader. Considering my studies this app has proven useful in the past and will surely do so in the future. WhatsApp messenger is also something useful to have around. Im not sure how popular it is from country to country, but over here almost everyone I know uses it, thus eliminating the need to send simple text messages all together. For entertainment I use an app called pocket audio. It basically turns your iPhone into either a wireless microphone or headphones if connected to your computer over a Wi-Fi network. The dropbox app for iPhone is also useful at times, especially if I quickly want to check out a document while on the move. I used to like the audioboo app at one point, but ever since the name change and the more cluttered interface I stopped using it all together. For VPN purposes I use something called TunnelBear. You can choose between IPs of various countries, including the US and the UK. You can try it out for free on 500 MB per month, but considering the things I use it for I find it well worth the price to buy a years worth of unlimited use. Considering the simple interface I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a VPN solution. This allowed me to start using the bbcs iPlayer app and the iPlayer radio. The good old days... Anyway, so Im posting here again after finishing an assignment the night before the hand-in date (I seem to be making a terrible habit of this). Im glad though that its done; as far as I know this is the last essay Ill have to do this year. But over the next week or so I have a group presentation and two tests to complete. Two weeks from then Im writing my end-of-year exams, after which I can enjoy my summer break. But all this seems like such a long way off right now. Speaking of swamp, I havent played it in months. The only audio game I play frequently during weekends with my friends is SoundRTS, with the crazy mod. Its a pretty good distraction at times. I also know that they plan to add support for the 4S; not sure if this has already been done or not. I hope to get this app within the next day or so. Im struggling slightly using text detective to always get the best results on a peace of paper and Ive heard how KNFB reader helps the user to get the paper in the picture perfectly. LOL this is a case of such a thing being an essential app, for which I simply have to get the money. In the long term I can see this saving my life, especially should I choose to continue studying after next year. Hi guys, Sorry to bring this one back from the dead, but Im also very curious to hear more peoples experiences with this app. The price tag might stretch my budget to the limits, but I really, really need an app like this as Im at university and I absolutely hate depending on our (rather inefficient) disability unit to get my stuff scanned. But obviously I want the best long-term solution. So to those who use the KNFB reader, how does it compare to the likes of Prismo and text detective? I heard the demonstration on AppleVis and I really like what Ive heard so far, but then Ive red conflicting reviews around social media. Re: Monthly chat October About the procrastination thing: I also find that I work more efficiently when Im under pressure. But I do tend to worry a lot about the work; for example yesterday I had about 1000 words left to write and I, at one point, thought I wouldnt make it. But as you say Dark, you cant really procrastinate if you have music to prepare. For me, playing piano at university level is one of the most taxing things in my life, especially since its such a big amount of work they expect each semester. For example, I need to prepare a program of 25 - 30 minutes for the November exams. And obviously because Im blind I cant sightread like most of my classmates, so I have to memorize everything. Its always so interesting when you all speak of Autumn; as I mentioned before its spring here, well mostly anyway. It felt as if we just moved straight from Winter into Summer. But then the weather seems to go all weird all around the world la tely. Someone also mentioned Halloween. Here its not really a big thing and as far as I know, celebrations are reduced to the occasional themed party on the night. Considering how unsafe it is here, going from door to door asking for trick or treat might result in you getting more than you bargained for. Interestingly, Ive never taken part in anything Halloween related; I guess I just dont get what all the hipes about. Ive also not been playing a lot of games lately. I tried Paladin of the Sky, but got busy with other stuff so I never got around to buying it; park boss seems interesting enough and almost like Football chairman, which Im playing on my phone, in terms of managing a business. Okay, so in my part of the world its heading towards summer, and Im on the eave of a short recess before our final term, before the year concludes. (Im in my 3rd year of studying music). Just a couple of hours ago I finished an assignment on Jazz Fusion that needs to be submitted tomorrow; yes I am a procrastinator and I really need to do something about this habit, but hey Ill worry about that later. During this (week long) break I plan to relax a few days, then begin working on another essay I need to submit when the next term starts, as well as practicing for the practical exams in November (for me its piano and vocals). Oh and, of course, I need to find a new book to read. I finished the Frontier Saga by Rick Brown a week or so ago, which I found rather interesting. And now, afte r posting this, Ill probably listen to some music before going to bed, as I have an early day tomorrow. Theres a network in Australia called SBS radio that also stream games, using the 5live commentary, unrestricted. Check them out on: http://www.sbs.com.au/radio/Or, if you have a program like Tapin radio, simply type sbs in the search box and go through the various stations. The way I understand it, they have games in multiple languages, including German!
