You may be reading, but you are not understanding, or you're just being stubborn. My point about PSRR is that rejection does not have to be all or nothing. It can be quantified. AD1896 rejects practically all of the jitter on the input. Yes, you can always argue that it's not complete rejection. That is correct, but it's just so misleading to say it embeds jitter in the output signal. That makes it sound as if it is done intentionally. Maybe that is what you think, I don't know. Rejection RATIO is, of course, something different to rejects. It's a numer. Doesn't imply infinite rejection, at all. On the contrary. Embedding of jitter is not done intentionally, neither is it something I have invented. It is, claims those who know a lot, a side effect of asynchronous sample rate conversion. ASRC is in effect a digital implementation of a D/A-A/D step. [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Re: Trasporter display configuration - done much?
OK, so how about helping the nice developers by framing a coherent enhancement request? I'm thinking specifically relating to the second display... As a starter, I think some of the confusion arises because of the way the second display is supported. If I understand correctly, the core slimserver code (together with firmware) has been minimally extended to allow a few different uses for the second display, including (1) visualisers and (2) extended text. But the core code doesn't as far as I can see do anything with the extended text - that is left to the MusicInfoScr plugin, which has been adapted so that all its previous options are now available for both screens. So far so good, but this doesn't add up to a coherent model for two screens. This is why, I think, I can't get the particular combination I was looking for (second screen is analog VUs while playing/screensaver, but extended text while in now playing mode). How about we get to choose exactly what we want to see on each screen in each of several modes? EG Code: Mode Left Screen Right Screen === power off pull down pull down now playingpull down pull down etc... You'd need other choices, as we already have, to define what format you wanted for titles etc. The pull down options should include your favoured song title format, the MUsicInfoScr plugin, and the various visualisers. This clearly needs more specification work but is this the right line? If I want to wash out the bass I skip the preamp and run RCA cables directly from my SB2 into the NAD S200. I've also tried RCA out of the SB2 into the Yamaha with the same lousy result. I see the transporter as my next step up because I can run balanced inputs from the transporter directly to my NAD. However, I'm worried that after I spend the money, I'll get the same washed out bass that the direct RCA approach is giving me. What am I missing? I believe this has been covered elsewhere. The theory is that many consumer-level components convert analog to digital internally whether you want them to or not because it's easier and cheaper to process a signal (volume, tone, etc.) when it's digital rather than analog. So, when you connect your SB to your receiver with an analog cable, you are potentially converting digital to analog on the SB, then analog to digital at the preamp stage of the receiver and then digital to analog again at the output stage. That's a lot of converting, and maybe its munging things. -- jonheal Jon Heal says: Have a nice day! http://www.theheals.org/ jonheal's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2133 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=29526 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Re: Trasporter display configuration - done much?
The way I look at it the diaplay is split into four segments (double line display is two). Excepting the Browse function I'd like to choose what appears in each display segment and what happens in a few moments in each display (if I should want anything to change, which I don't). Unfortunately the whole idea about the way it works at the moment seems a little arse about face. I understand exactly why this has come about though but think it is time to reassess the way the diplay processing works (expecially as I can't get the display to do exactly what I want and am sure it can do what I want). Using three (or more?) different SlimServer screens to program the display is not user-friendly. Only one screen (including sub-screens parhaps) should suffice and would be much more understandable. The SlimServer idea of a screensaver seems a bit redundant to me and could be dumped. One of the things that has contributed to the current confused state is the idea of plugins and how they have been integrated (or rather added in after the fact) I think. The Transporter's dual screen has made the e... organically-grown way the display programming works apparent. It is probably time to take a user-centric, or ergonomic view and redesign it appropriately. A friendlier MusicInfo seems the best place to start, all else could follow after that. The ability to chose whether the text in each screen segment scrolls or not would be useful too. I've previously written initial ramblings of how the display programming might work here: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=29084page=3 I'll give your suggestions, ceejay, some thought later but at this moment I am running up and down the stairs between PC and Transporter trying to get the display as I want it (not, not really). [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Re: Better sound with digital out. Why?
First, I am not using any type of signal processing with the Yamaha - tone controls neutral and effects off. Secondly, my point is that the best sound comes only when I use the optical out from the SB2 and the only way I can do this is through the Yamaha. If I run RCA out, it doesn't matter whether I run it through the Yamaha or run it direct to the NAD amp, I still lose some of the bass. [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Re: WMPlayer / wma lossless - EAC / FLAC
EAC is definitely better. If your CDs are in pristine shape, you won't see the difference, but otherwise you will. EAC will protect you against the nasty and rather obvious pops and clicks that plague a lot of tracks ripped from CD. And sometimes the scratches are not terribly visible, so a visual inspection may not help you determine what condition your CDs are in. Go with EAC, because it's the only way to be sure. -- CatBus CatBus's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7461 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=29534 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Re: Better sound with digital out. Why?
OK from your observations so far you seem to eliminated the NAD s200 as the influential factor. Why not take it out of the eqautions altogether (For testing) and connect the optical, coaxial AND RCA into the yamaha. Then do an A vs B vs C comparison using the same yammy power amp components. This will tell you where the issue is. Next run the Yammy pre-outs to the NAD and do the same. Let us know what you find. alex -- ajmitchell Check out my other hobby http://ajmitchell.shutterpoint.com ajmitchell's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=800 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=29526 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
