Using the Inguz plugin to Slimserver does require a fairly hefty computer (mine is a 5 year old 2.4GHz pentium and runs around 50% CPU usage). You will also need a measuring microphone, probably a microphone preamp, and room measurement/filter generation software like DRC. I think you will find the Behringer much easier to configure, but I think you will get superior results in the long run with Inguz. [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] ripping SACDs
In case anyone has an SACD library and wants to do this, it turns out there's a not-too-difficult method. You need an SACD player that can output PCM through an HDMI connection. (I think most SACD-capable universal players will do that, but I haven't tried it myself to be sure. Oppo sells one for ~$150.) Then, with an HDMI to DVI + SPDIF converter box (like http://www.hdtvsupply.com/hdmi-to-dvi-digital-audio-converter-adapter.html), you should be able to split off the SPDIF audio, send it to a computer soundcard, and record a hi-res WAV file. -- opaqueice opaqueice's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4234 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=40027 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

My mic stand was $30 at Mars Music. However, inexpensive has to show somewhere. I finally decided to connect my transporter's balanced outs directly to my Linn Artikulat Aktiv powered speakers. I think it sounded great regardless of the fact that I used the digital volume to control the volume for the speakers. I never had to go much lower than -25db and if I did, it would be such a background level that sound quality would not be important. I was easily able to get to -15 to -10db when listening. If it could sound much better, I don't think I was missing much. If someone is debating this setup, I'd probably simply try it first before spending time and effort on some analog attenuation inline. My pre-amp does give me the ability to attach other sources to the speakers with minimal sound degradation, but I think the TP direct would be a perfectly acceptable solution if I didn't want the flexibility of other non-digital sources. -- thomsens thomsens's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1352 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=39611 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

This was especially the case when the SB was resting on another component that generateed vibration. Try it and see! Did you try moving the SB3 off of the vibrating machinery? Try swapping it's location with your DVD player... Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Testing 24-bit, 96 kHz FLAC?
Pat Farrell;148180 Wrote: Pat Farrell;148007 Wrote: I could be wrong, but I thought that once it was digital, the SPDIF input's quality makes next to zero difference. If you do use an external A/D converter running at 44.1kHz, you need to be careful. Many of the cheaper mainstream cards that have SPDIF inputs (eg. Soundblasters) resample the incoming stream to their internal clock speed (48kHz), and since they do it in real time, tend not to make a particularly good job of it. I forgot about that, lots of cheap stuff works only at 48k sampling, and then you do a crude and rude conversion to 44.1, which never works for quality. The answer is simple, make sure it really does 44.1k. Lately I've been using a Behringer U-CONTROL UCA202 USB soundcard going into my laptop. It samples at 44.1 I believe. It's much better than my soundblaster was. -- swhite58 Clark Connect Linux file server-SB3-Zhaolu D3 DAC-NAD C320BEE-Polk Monitor 4.5 speakers/Sennheiser headphones swhite58's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5038 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=28490 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
