However, within LMS it is the player which decode the audio stream data into playable audio samples, and now that players such a PI have reasonable processing power - it makes more sense to do any audio processing on the player. The simplest approach is likely to be some sort of ALSA based module as there are altrweady generics (i.e. non LMS) examples audio processing and equalising. ALSA can also deal with multi channel. It seems to imply that either 1. LMS has not understood the file type (drill down on the the track in WebGUI to see what format LMS thinks the file is ) 2. LMS does no have any rule to convert the format suitable for a player (i.e. sox) Enable logging player.source to INFO to get a log of how LMS is trying to process the file. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109995 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

This differs from networks such as the Internet or Ethernet LANs that use variable sized packets or frames. ATM provides data link layer services that run over OSI Layer 1 physical links. ATM has functional similarity with both circuit switched networking and small packet switched networking. **This makes it a good choice for a network that must handle both traditional high-throughput data traffic (e.g., file transfers), and real-time, low-latency content such as voice and video.** ATM technology is not relevant to domestic users. It is/was used by Telecom operators in the backbone network where they had different types of traffic which had to be transported over high speed links (e.g. SDH/SONET). The nearest a domestic user will get to ATM is when using ADSL as many ADSL connections terminate in a ATM based DSLAM. As a technology ATM is now out of date and there are other backbone technologies taking over. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89481 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Streaming Digital Audio from Video to TP
I think a VLC based solution would be best for you. Plays a video stream and also sets up an audio http stream (this avoiuds the conf file stuff). So once running Tune-in Sc to http://hostIP:8000/audio.mp3. You can change port number and name on VLC command to suit. The command below shows a delays between video and audio of 2520 msec - again change to suit. The audio will be streamed as 2 channel 192kbp/sec - again read up on VLC to get other options. The following Windows command line Code: C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe --sout #transcode{acodec=mp3,ab=192,channels=2} :duplicate{dst=display{delay=2520,noaudio},dst=std{access=http,mux=raw,dst=:8000/audio.mp3},select=audio} You may need to experiment to find the command line on OSX. If you have an SBC - I believe there is a applet which can be used to control VLC. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=48754 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Beginner's Basic Setup - Home Theatre or Hi-Fi
I think a carefully chosen Home Cinema system will meet your cabling needs but it may compromise audio. Home Cineman systems usually have - DVD / CD player - AM/FM radio - Play Decode TV sound (e.g. Dolby Surround) from off-air/cable signal if fed through Aux Phono input - Digital Phono Aux input - this can be used for Squeezebox, DVD recorder, Games console etc. The Home Cinema/Theatre system audio will usually be set up for Movies and it is not hi-fi but it may be adequate for your requirements. Choose a LCD TV with at least two HDMI ports and a Home Cinema system which uses HDMI. There should be at least two independent Aux input - one for TV off-air sound and one Squeezebox. On some system this is one Phono and one digital (optical Toslink) input. If Squeezebox is connected to digital input (Toslink) then Home Cinema system is the DAC but the benefit you can play Audio DTS track (if you have any). If you want surround sound from SB using all 5.1 speakers from AUX input - check the Home Cinema system supports this mode as some Home Cinema systems restrict AUX input to 2 front speaker. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=41411 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Inguz Equalisation not gapless?
In 6.5.1 there was a change in the way Slimserver does transcoding such that socketwrapper was used in all cases. I recently tracked a problem in 6.5.1 with AlienBBC to InguzDSP and AlienBBC would not work until the InguzDSP was disabled - that problem seem to arise from two instances of socketwrapper. [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Re: Buffering on the SB3
You could try the Network test plugin from the Sb which is used to measure sustained throughput from a source - AFAIK buffering is not an issue in this test. Some measure of SB buffering can be adjusted from 3 secs to 30 secs from the Slimserver menu. I think a significant issue for streaming radio would be latency - with live streams buffering helps but if packets are too late the buffer gets depleted and eventually link stutters and breaks down. Large buffers help delay this effect, but if the buffer is too large then it is possible for packets to be held for too long before they are read, acked and played and so you can get TCP/IP reset. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32248 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Re: Buffering on the SB3
I think a 50msec changeover is a bit irrelevant to a TCP connections as long as the basic comms link stays up. If there is a glitch which results in packet corruption/loss, TCP will arrange retransmissions as long as the TCP connections is maintained. If the retransmission can occur such that the missing packet arrive in time, then there will be no gaps in the audio. If the changeover resulted in some loss of sync or similar which resets the TCP connection then there would be a problem regardless of the amount of buffering. So if you are demoing that physical comms path can be changed (e.g. onto a different fibre in a SDH ring) without interrupting/breaking/resetting the TCP connections, the SB will be ideal and the amount of buffering won't really matter. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32248 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Re: Can CD quality be achieved with Internet Radio and SB3?
Internet radio will not approach CD quality but many stations give you choice of encoding. The quality of a stream depends not just on speed but also how it is encoded. Supposedly a 48kbps/sec AACplus stream is as good as FM and 128kbit/sec MP3 - so speed isn't everything but it helps. Usually higher speed streams have an associated subscription. Picks a station with multiple streams and do a comparison test of the different formats say with a www.Sky.FM or a www.Somafm.com station. You can get AACplus to work by having Slimserver transcode (http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.cgi?AACplus) and there are a few higher speed AACplus which say their 96kbit/s or 128Kbits stream is CD quality. The data rate of the BBC RealAudio streams is typically around 40kbps except for Worldservice which is about 16kbps. I think the BBC still wants to support Narrowband (dialup) users and also they have a very large number of users so providing high speed worldwide would require significant bandwidth and I think is not considered to be the best way to spend the licence money.
