the top left.

Francisco Machado Corvello Soares

15 May 1901 in the sixth hour of the night

age 58 (this is off by baptism should be 60)

Maria Phlyomenia ( I believe to be living, i don't see him listed as
widower)

Son of Francisco Machado Corvello and Anna Custodia of Sao Pedro

On the fourth line down above Cha d esta freguesia Nossa something is
written I can't make out

Also trying to figure out the cemetery four lines up from bottom Something
? de Belem, wondering if Church or public?

Hi, Joe,

I have him simply as Manuel Vieira in my tree, but he's definitely a Galvao.
So you are also descended from Duarte Galvao. He's one of my favorite

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: mtDNA haplogroup H

2013-12-28 Thread Cheri Mello
Beth R,

You need to ask your project admin(s) about your matches. If you are in
Haplogroup H, you need to ask Rebecka Canady and if you are in the
Adoptees, you need to ask Dick Hill, CeCe Moore, or any other admin that
assists with the adoptees.

In mtDNA, haplogroup H is the most common haplogroup in Europe. I can't
remember the statistic. Around 33% to 40%?? It's A LOT. So you will have
lots and lots of genetic "cousins."

The matching for mtDNA has recently been updated. For people with a paper
trail to a common ancestor, a mismatch of one base pair is allowed, so
they are showing these on your matches page. It's really only applicable
to those who tested the Full Genomic Sequence or Full Sequence Test or Full
Mitochondrial Sequence test. The lower level tests are usually
anthropological in nature.

As for help with adoption, you really need to talk to CeCe or Dick. Their
email addys are listed when you click on your link for the Adoptees Project.

My two cents worth:
Never assume that the years nor the pages in a specific book are in order
unless they are numbered, usually top right.

When I have a discrepancy, I check the Family History Library Catalog (FHLC) to
see what was filmed: http://goo.gl/HfRAvQ

It says that in Flamengos, for baptisms, they filmed 1661-1720, 1728-1804, and
1804-1892. There's a gap between 1720-1728.

Joao C. Ventura confirmed they are out of order. Sometimes when books were
rebound, the loose pages were put at the back of the book.

At least the vast majority of our pages are in order. If you ever look at the
Cape Verdean film, they are all over the place. You'd think that the book had
loose pages, they threw them up in the air and then filmed. It is just a mess
for CV researches :(

You guys do realize that this thread is discussing Pimentels from Sao

look at a thread titled Pimentels. And you'd be missing out on a chance to

Mary Have you found any other information?
I too was an "H" and am now seeing H(G16129A) The below close match has teh
G and the A switched. Which I would think would not be a match however I am
just starting out and am very confused!
To confuse matters more I am adopted so putting anything together at this
point is well kind of pointless but fun!

While searching through Baptismal records of Flamengos, Faial this
afternoon I think I have found a discrepancy in the record for 1781-1804.

At the end of the book the year is 1793, which Pam Santos confirmed for
me. Although is supposed to (according to the CCA) end at 1804.

The next book does begin with 1804. From what I can tell there is a ten
(10) year gap.

How would someone report this to the CCA?

And as luck (or I my bad luck) the period I need is in the missing block of
records..

I know i don't post here often, and keep in touch, yet i feel as though i
know many of you.Thought i would share this, i've been researching my
family for who know's how long 10- 15 years. I'm a descendant of
Charlemagne, Henry the Conqueror, Alfonso King of Portugal, whatever, who
isn't, i have spent so many years researching this , i've had the help of
many of you, including DRH, GM ( my distant cousin ) , JV, . My point, it's
time for me to be personal with what i have, i have recently connected and
started a Facebook Group where i'm making contact with so many cousin's,
relatives, and it's hitting home, starting with my parents, here's a little
history ( I think that's the part that i was forgetting )

My Parents
My father Candinho da Silva Garcia is the youngest of 12 children, from
Candelaria Pico, his father died when he was 18 months old, his brother's
and sisters are: Francisco da Silva Garcia,Manuel da Silva Garcia, Joao da
Silva Garcia, Jose da Silva Garcia, Antonio da Silva Garcia, Maria da
Conceicao da Silva Garcia, Jaime da Silva Garcia, Vital da Silva Garcia,
Ana da Silva Garcia, Luduina da Silva Garcia and Alice da Silva Garcia. My
parents immigrated from Candelaria Pico Azores in 1960 with my 3 sisters,
to Winnipeg Manitoba,to join my father's oldest brother Francisco, they had
2 more children in Winnepeg, my brother Alberto, and my sister Elizabeth,
after 3 years they moved to Toronto Ontario 1963, i was born 1965, My
father worked as a labourer, one time working at a car wash on Pacific Ave,
in a part of Toronto called " The Junction" , while my mother ( Maria
Augusta ) worked at The Royal York Hotel,as a maid,( She was there with the
Beatles when they played Toronto, should have stolen something from them )
she would come home to take care of 6 children, my sister's Maria, Regina,
and Albina would help around the house, i was very young. My father
absolutely loves gardening, and always kept a beautiful garden, full of
fruit trees and every vegetable you can imagine, even a fig tree, working
hard with a landscape company , he landed a nice job with the government
working landscape for Ontario Housing,my mother would clean houses, my
father eventually moved inside and was a janitor till he retired. They still
live in their 2nd house that they ever bought in Mississauga ( Suburb of
Toronto )

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Manuel Luiz and Isabel Pinheiro Ribeira Grande

2013-12-28 Thread mances

Pam,

I have a Manuel Correia de Aguiar m. to Maria Fernandes. They are parents
of my ancestor Antonio Correia born in Santa Cruz, Lagoa, on 2 jun 1712.
Antonio had a sister named Barbara born in Santa Cruz, Lagoa, on 5 jun
1709, and a daughter also named Barbara (my ancestor) born on 1735 in
SC-Lagoa, whose daughter Mariana Francisca married to Martinho Botelho in
São Roque on 1785.

I couldn´t find the marriage record for Manuel Correia de Aguiar and Maria
Fernandes in Santa Cruz, Lagoa, around 1708 or before. So I think that this
Manuel Correia de Aguiar could possibly be the son of your couple Manuel
Correia de Aguiar and Barbara Luiz (or Pinheiro) married in Ponta Delgada
with children born in São Roque.

I noticed that Barbara is a recurring given name in the family.

Did you find any Manuel born to Manuel Correia de Aguiar and Barbara Luiz
(Pinheiro) in São Roque around 1680-85?
