[Blind-Computing] compressed zip folders

2008-10-20 Thread Steve Crews
Hello,

I want to compress an audio cd with ten songs on it.

When I press the APPLICATION KEY, I arrow to send to and pres enter , and
then press enter on compressed zip folder.

I think it goes thru the compression process but now I can't find the new
compress folder. Where do I need to go to find the new compressed folder.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve Crews

[Blind-Computing] Interesting lecture on standby/sleep

2008-10-20 Thread Chris Hallsworth

Hi all,
I've just had an interesting lecture off my girlfriend on what we should do
to our computers at night. According to her, we should shut it down to save
both memory and hard disk usage. Also, we could be hacked because the
Windows session hasn't really ended when we put our computers in standby or
sleep, depending on the version of Windows. What do you all think of this?
Full truth or a complete myth? I'd love to hear from you.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Interesting lecture on standby/sleep

2008-10-20 Thread Patricia Dunbar

I shut my computer off completely at night...
Sometimes though, if I rebooted and forgot that and go to shut it off well
it stays on because it was last on the reboot sigh.

But normally when I'm not so forgetful, I shut it off.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Interesting lecture on standby/sleep

2008-10-20 Thread Nimer
I believe that on desktops, standby leaves the fans running and the ram
running, where hybernate actually turns everything off. On my laptop,
the fans stop running. Indeed, it appears as if everything stops
running. There is no sound eminating from it. I suspect, however, that
theram is somehow still on, even if limitedly.

Myth. I place my computer, laptop in standby. It shuts down the hard
disk, only leaving a little part of it on to store the memory that is in
the ram. It can not be hacked. As for saving hard drive and memory, if
you put it in sleep, the hard drive and memory is off. It might actually
reduce ware and tear because when you turn it on it doesn't have to spin
as long to be on and ready.

2008-10-20 Thread Lennie Rinaldi

Hi,

I always put my desk top computer in hibernation whenever I am away
for a short period of time. The only time that I shut it down
completely is when I am away for a few days.

In hibernation , the computer is just as good as shutting it down
since nothing is running. It also come back up quickly since whatever
I was doing before hibernation the software and files is saved on the
hard drive instead of being left in memory as standby does.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Interesting lecture on standby/sleep

2008-10-20 Thread Gerald Levy

Letting your computer go into sleep mode after five hours will not harm it
and will save energy. I have my computer set to go into standby mode after
30 minutes of inactivity to conserve energy, and I shut it down at night.
However, if you want to set your computer so that it never goes into sleep
mode, go to the Power Options page of the Control Panel, tab to the standby
and hibernate combo boxes in the Power Schemes tab and make sure that both
are set to never.

Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] Interesting lecture on standby/sleep

Hi Chris and others, I recently bought a friends computer. It goes into
sleep mode after five hours. I have heard it is easier on the computer.

I am interested in knowing what is best also.
is there a way to keep it from going to sleep if that is not good for the
computer?

Hi all,
I've just had an interesting lecture off my girlfriend on what we should
do
to our computers at night. According to her, we should shut it down to
save

both memory and hard disk usage. Also, we could be hacked because the
Windows session hasn't really ended when we put our computers in standby
or
sleep, depending on the version of Windows. What do you all think of
this?

Full truth or a complete myth? I'd love to hear from you.

Letting your computer go into sleep mode after five hours will not harm it
and will save energy. I have my computer set to go into standby mode
after

30 minutes of inactivity to conserve energy, and I shut it down at night.
However, if you want to set your computer so that it never goes into sleep
mode, go to the Power Options page of the Control Panel, tab to the
standby

and hibernate combo boxes in the Power Schemes tab and make sure that both
are set to never.

Hi, you can also check your email if you go to hotmail.com and check your
mail that way and maybe your computer won't lock up on you. If the email
that is coming in to that account is not important I wouldn't even worry
about checking it. Just tell all your contacts your regular email address.

[Blind-Computing] Blogging

2008-10-20 Thread Ginger Roe

Hi, I believe about sometime Wednesday I will have my setting up a blog
tutorial up on my website for download.

But what I need to know is: if anyone is interested in this kind of thing is
there any one who has a version of word less then 2003?

I would like to make it accessible to everyone.

I was almost done until I decided to add another blogging service to it, so
now you have two different choices.

Have a great day!

Re: [Blind-Computing] Blogging

2008-10-20 Thread Job Hunter
I currently use Word XP (2002) If you want to make it accessible to a large
range of potential users, you might consider saving the final document in
.RTF format. That type of document can be opened by almost any word
processing program, including WordPad.

Best regards,
John

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Blogging

Hi, I believe about sometime Wednesday I will have my setting up a blog
tutorial up on my website for download.

But what I need to know is: if anyone is interested in this kind of thing
is

there any one who has a version of word less then 2003?

I would like to make it accessible to everyone.

I was almost done until I decided to add another blogging service to it,
so

now you have two different choices.

Have a great day!

Re: [Blind-Computing] compressed zip folders

2008-10-20 Thread Rick Justice

Hi Steve,
If that is an actual audio cd, as in store-bought,
It will do no good to send it to a compressed zip folder.
If you want to zip songs from a audio cd, you will have to rip them from the
disk first.
Typically, when you send something to a compressed zip foldeer in Windows
XP, the zip folder will appear in the

same list as the files you zipped up.
In the case of a cd, it cannot put the zip folder on the cd.

When I press the APPLICATION KEY, I arrow to send to and pres enter ,

I think it goes thru the compression process but now I can't find the new
compress folder. Where do I need to go to find the new compressed folder.

Any help would be appreciated.
